The Temple's Curse
http://i41.tinypic.com/2j280pi.jpg A private roleplay between Wavi and Staria. Our story begins when one elven explorer digs a little too deep into the depths of a forsaken ruin. Or at least that's what it appears to be on the outside. Oh, but that is only half the story. You see, scaling the walls of the goddess' tomb is a greedy thief whose lust for riches has sent him on a one way path to hell. Although the two have never met, they must come together to face and escape from the temple's curse.... |

Oops. He hadn't meant to cause the tunnel to collapse. Seriously, how was he to know that touching that hunk of gold was going to cause a rock to drop on the stone floor and then come rolling his way. Oh, and how was he to know that picking up the rubies would trigger a million arrows to shoot out of nowhere. Things like this Lyall wasn't any good at understand. It's a mystery that he's still alive since he's a treasure hunter and all.
Needless to say, Lyall, the wolf-human male, was going out his usual greedy plunder of tombs and chambers. Today, he landed at the foot of an ancient temple that said to be cursed -- but Lyall didn't believe in such child's play. Curses were just told to ward thieves and people away from the treasures that laid within. Lyall was no fool. He knew that the darker the curse, the better the findings. Since he was forced to flee outside due to the stone and the arrows, Lyall had taken to scaling the sides of the slanted tomb. With each careful step, he inched closer to victory -- or what he believed to be victory. It was then when he wolf-like foot landed on shifty rock, that he went tumbling into the chambers again. Why on earth would anyone booby-trap the outside to lead someone inside? He was bewildered by the lack of common sense these ancient people had. However, little did the hungry Lyall know that the tomb was playing a trick on him, leading him right into the hands of a woman who would do all she could to preserve the nature of the very tomb he sought to plunder. Landing with a thud, his pale blue eyes flicked from side to side, trying to differentiate the paths that laid before him. To the left was a winding stairwell that seemed to drop to the pits of hell. To the right was a snaking tunnel that stretched on for ages. Behind him was a sheer drop, which automatically forced him to press forward. "Ugh," the wolven male huffed, "I hate when things go all fuzzy on me." |
Silvery green eyes gazed at an artifact in curiosity, a wooden ball. It looked almost like it had to be a toy for a child almost except for the intricate carvings all over it. They were not any form of elvish or human language that she knew of. She took out a notebook and sat cross-legged right where she was standing. She tuned out all else, simply sketching the ball and the intricate symbols with great care. She would soon have all of them written down perfectly, excited about the find. It may be a keystone to figure out the language of these ancient, unknown people.
She didn't notice her pet ferret looking at a dangling chain, or the way it suddenly seemed to sway as if alive. It was tempting the ferret, intrigued by the intelligence of both it and it's owner. The temple wanted to test them, tease them... As time had made it rather mischievous. When the well trained ferret managed to ignore it the golden chain whipped forward and struck the creature on the nose. It succeeded in angering the graceful rodent very well. El looked up as she heard the ferret yelp just in tiem to see the ferret fling itself at the chain and try to bite it. With the ferret's weight to pull the thin chain it would trigger a 'trap'. Before she could even shout no the stone beneath her dropped downward. If her hands hadn't been full she might have had time to grab the edge with her elven reflexes but as is she could only fall. If she'd been any less well trained she might have panicked and as is she would scream but she would also react. As she fell she looked beneath her and gripped her notebook with her teeth. Once it was caught there she would twist her body so that instead of her vulnerable back hitting the stone floor now beneath her it would be her hands. She landed with her feet above her head and quickly flipped off the stone, glad of her gymnastic training. "Mira!" She called out to the small ferret as she dropped the notebook to her hands again and looked towards the roof. She frowned as she saw the stone had slid right back into place after dropping her. Mira was on her own and so was El. The elf's ears twitched downward a moment in worry. Mira was like her own child... She was soon distracted by hearing footsteps coming her way. There wasn't suppose to be anyone else here.... "Hello?" She called softly, uncertain. Had the village sent someone else from the archeology team? This was suppose to be her first solo mission! Still... she was suddenly not feeling so confident as she'd let her hyper focus when interested by something let Mira get her in trouble. She didnt' understand though... Ferret was a familiar in the truest sense and more intelligent then many humans and taught better then to just play with things. Something must have happened but what? It didn't occur to her that the temple was alive or shifting to trap her and a certain wolfen man together...walls and rooms moving to form mazes, traps, and mysteries. |
Lyall was going about his own thing when his ears picked up a sound. The sound of someone… talking? Cocking a brow, he slowed his paced so that he would be able to sneak upon whoever laid before him in the tunnel.
When his eyes where finally able to determine that it was just an woman and her ferret, he let his guard down. It wasn't often that a woman would attack a male, especially a beastly male such as himself. Flicking his silver hair to the side, his white ears propped themselves forward as he drew away from the shadows of the tomb. The licking flames of a nearby torch exposed his animalistic features with the utmost discrepancy. Grin on face and hands on his hips, Lyall sauntered up to the blue-haired lass with a rather cocky demeanor. "Hello yourself," he said while gracefully bowing and placing a gentle peck on the top of her hand. "Who might you be, love?" His pale eyes danced from her pretty face to the fury face of her four-legged friend. "And this one, too." Reaching out a hand, he went to stroke the rodent's little head, but immediately withdrew his hand when he noticed a lightning-quick look of concern flash in the creature's eyes. "Come now, I don't hunt your kind… usually," Lyall joked. Sliding his left foot forward, he shifted his weight onto his right foot, leaning in toward the woman some. With his blue eye, he looked the girl over. Although, had his one eye not been patched, the task of analyzing her might have gone faster. But, using that yellow eye of his might have scared the lass away for it was his golden wolf-eye. Men from his tribe usually weren't born with such an honored feature. Lyall, born and raised by a pair of half-wolf, half-human people was special enough to have inherited the rare eye. It probably helped that his mother's mother was a princess of the wolves, which ensured that he would get at least one golden eye. His mother, too, had the same golden eye, save for the fact that it was in the other eye. Tail whipping around, he walked around the woman, to give her a final "once over." Certain that she was of no harm to him, he barked up a question. "So, how did we get here?" |
He was definitely not from the elven village, that much was clear. She watched him approach a moment, absently thinking there was something predatory about him. Before she could react to this inner thought, however, he had sauntered up and bowed to her. She blushed deeply at the kiss of her hand, not use to such attention. True for a human she was very fair but for an elf she was merely average, add that to her profession and being treated delicately simply wasn't in the cards for her back home.
"El... Most people call me El, and her name is Mira..." She responded uncertainly, why was he here? As he leaned in closer, however, the question died on her lips and she trailed off instead. She blushed a little deeper, the paleness of her cheeks making it even more obvious. She half stepped back, uncertainty in her silver eyes. He did not behave like the polite men at home, no... he felt wild, dangerous and if she was truly honest with herself a little exciting. Mira meanwhile accepted the petting but wasn't so sure how friendly he was with her mistress. She crossed her arms across her fury chest and seemed to almost glare at him before leaping onto El's shoulder. She curled up there a little and looked between the two people as if not very happy with what she saw. El seemed so... frail when he leaned in. Her innocent mistress was too vulnerable to men such as he ... As if sensing Mira's displeasure, however, El forced herself to speak up. "I... I'm not sure. I was still working upstairs when I fell. The floor opened..." she answered with a slight frown. For a moment she gazed up at the roof in thought as she spoke. She didn't like how it had opened up or the feeling of magic she could sense in the stone at the moment. It hadn't been there when she'd been working earlier...It had felt like temples usually feel, like long dead rock and hidden knowledge. Now it felt almost alive. |
"Ah," the man said as his eyes continued to bounce around her figure. "And what were you doing? Trying to steal something?" Cutting right to the point, Lyall wanted to know if it was he that triggered the odd series of events or if it was this strange blue-haired woman.
Smirk sliding onto his face, he knew what he would have to do. She, from just her looks alone, was one of those annoying history buffs that was out to "save history." Now, being a thief and all, she would immediately want to be rid of him and his sinful nature. Since he wanted all the riches for himself, he figured he would create a nice little lie - say a lie about being a treasure guardian of sorts. Yes, yes, that would be most believable as he was a rare breed of human. Flicking his white hair back, Lyall laughed. "I only kid, my dear. I can see that you, like I, are protectors of history. Only, unlike you, I was entrusted with this role for I am the guardian of fallen civilizations. I am new to this relic so it probably was disturbed by my presence, but I assure you, I know what I'm doing." Sly like a fox, the wolf-man wondered how much El would believe. She should believe it all, right? He hardly looked like a thief, as he was donned in the armor of knights and guardians. Reaching his hand out to a torch, he picked it from its place and pointed the burning flames down one of the paths. "Shall we?" he questioned. Not even waiting for her response, comment, or interjection, Lyall started to push his way down the dark tunnel. He wasn't sure where it would lead and he really didn't care. The closer he got to treasure, the better. He didn't care what laid in his wake, he would overcome it like he always did. |
El felt her blush deepen as he continued to look at her figure so closely. It seemed still so predatory, like he was judging it somehow... She couldn't help but cross her arms over her body slightly and look away, her elf ears tilting downward slightly. For a moment all her training, all her thought fell away. All she could think of was what her outfit didn't cover... and how clingy to her curves the outfit was. It had been designed for her efficiency, the skirt filled with pockets for her tools.
"O..Oh... Do you know very much about the people here then?" She responded quietly as she began to follow him. She was a naive and trusting soul it seemed, even if her voice shook at first. It would be clear she could sense the predatory nature in him but now that he had revealed his being a 'guardian' his look to her felt a little less predatory and sexual. Perhaps he had simply been looking for weapons or signs she was dangerous to this place? "Or why it's suddenly changed? The stones... are different now. Alive" She stated quietly. As she spoke Mira sat silently on her shoulder and continued to glare at him. It was clear that little Mira didn't believe what he said for a minute. She was as suspicious as El was innocent it seemed. El's experience with men was non existent and her experience with thieves and such was barely more. The thieves she had encountered had never been cunning, no they were more direct and simply just tried to kill her... where they found she was well trained and stronger then she looked. |
"Afraid not," his voice was rather dull this go around. "But, if I had to wager a guess, I would suspect that this relic is like the ones in the far south. I had been to one once, in search of tr-thieves that were said to be raiding the place." Lyall felt some beads of sweat pool on his forehead. He needed to watch his wording or he would be in a heap of trouble should she discover his greedy nature.
"Anyway, while in pursuit of the criminals, I discovered that the tomb was actually a maze. It moved and changed, almost as if it were… alive. Magic. It coated the ground. I think… know, I know this place is the same. I can sense the magic. Being from an ancient tribe of guardians, we are gifted with feeling the presence of magic. I assume you, too, can sense its strength. This relic… it's unlike anything I've ever seen, meaning… it's secrets are… to die for." At that point, his interest had been peaked. He was dying to know what the temple was hiding. Was it gold? Jewels? Artifacts of great value? He didn't care. He wanted it. All of it. The reward would be astronomical! It was, literally, calling his name. Stepping lightly, he moved toward the stairs before him. "How good are you at scaling a wall? I fear that touching these steps will trigger another trap…." |
