Nodding, she motioned them to follow her home. Tomorrow. It was supposed to be tonight but there was complications. So tomorrow. She would leave out that something had happened to their king and just give the basic simple answer. Though hiding stuff wasn't seeming to work out. Loretti was surprisingly perceptive and that made Athena feel like the insides of her mind were gaping wide open for anyone to inspect. Pushing her feelings away, she commented, "Last I heard, tomorrow morning Alden will be moved to the outdoor tank. It will be finished being set up tonight. Diana wanted to make sure he would be somewhere that an attempted rescue could work." That and the fact that he was slowly dying himself. Something that they would see for themselves once he was moved.
Reaching her place, she unlocked the front door and let them in. Richly decorated as was becoming an upcoming celebrity, she had posters and CDs decorating the shelf in her livingroom. Not bothering to glance at them, she moved to the middle of the room to direct where they might find what they needed. "I have two spare rooms up the stairs with extra clothes if you need them. The bathroom is stocked with anything you might need. The kitchen and food human eat off that way and on the other side is the bathroom. Is there anything you need? We have the night to ourselves."

When they stepped into Athena’s home, it felt much like walking through the gateway to a different universe. Of course it looked like a room they had seen many times, only above water and conditioned a bit differently. They listened to Athena quietly, nodding and looking around as she directed their attention to various rooms. Loretti moved around to a chair and touched it, her well-used fingers sweeping the fabric. It was smooth, if a little rougher than she was used to, and she went around to sit. It bounced a bit---something she wasn’t used to in a chair or seat of any kind, and it made her smile a little.
Guai went around Tevin as he studied the place silently, acting the guard as he had done so many decades already, and sat across from Loretti. He had become used to the life of a being on dry land at one point, and while it had definitely advanced, it was familiar in a way. “Athena.” He glanced around to the young woman. “Just tell us one thing: Do you know how Alden is doing? I can’t go on not knowing anything...”
“Neither can I.” Tevin piped up from the door. He had taken to standing straight with his arms behind his back. “I’ve been his guard since I was recruited---I can’t just not know...” He turned his gaze down, despising where his thoughts wandered. He didn’t dare consider his king harmed, or worse.

Gulping as she faced the dreaded, Athena froze. Looking from worried face to worried face, Athena thought her heart would fail her from the sheer despair that came with even the idea of trying to explain to them. Opening her mouth to try to form the words, she attempted to warn them of how Alden had changed. "He..." Nothing came out. Her lungs couldn't be forced to say it. She closed her mouth, closed her eyes, and mustered up all the courage she could. Opening her eyes to look at the concern radiating from them, she tried one more time. This time not even a syllable came forth.
Completely overwhelmed, she turned her back to them and leaned her forehead against the wall. Hugging herself tightly and closing her eyes so that she could focus on speaking more clearly, she spoke in a wavering voice, "He's... caged... and losing hope." Man this was harder than she thought it would be. Still, she pressed on, uncertain how much she would be able to say. How much strength she had to actually express the words. "They have been doing tests. His body is weakening to the point of limp kelp. His scales no longer shine and are falling off. His energy is gone. It is worse than an underwater cave-in..." She couldn't say more. Shoulders shuddering from the effort, Athena cursed the day she placed public opinion over her sister's feelings. The beginning of the events that had led to this end.
