Calanon stood and glared at the guards. How dare the guards interrupt his time to himself!
"This human serves me. Lower your weapons." he demanded. He already knew that Roland wasn't going to hurt him. Now he just needed to make the guards see it. |
“ummm my lord prince.” Roland started but did not get to finish as the guards attacked him. One of the guards gave the price a quick look of apology before attacking him.
|
Calanon managed to dodge the attacck and get to the sword that was attached to his saddle. He gripped the handle and swung at the attackers.
|
Moving with Calanon Roland blocked two swards that were coming towards his face. He wondered a second why these ones were attacking the prince, before his mind was back to protecting the prince. A blade lashed down only to be cut like butter as it hit Roland’s blade. The elf stumbled back into two of the ones behind him, his eyes going wide at the blade. As Roland went to block another blade the owner of the blade back up. This confused Roland, was it his blade or was the prince doing something that he had not seen?
|
Calanon continued to defend himself. He wasn't sure why the guards were attacking him. Roland, he could understand. But not their prince. He made sure to defend both himself and Roland the best he could, occasionally striking out against the guards.
|
Finally when Roland did not think he could fight anymore the voice of the weapons master rang out over the battle. “Enough that is.” All the elite guards pulled back and disappeared into the woods around them. Walking out was Orist smiling as if his grand kid had just spoken his first word. “you know your blade well and you have improved.” He said to Roland, then looked at the prince. “Forgiveness I ask your Highness. A test I wish to perform on him, passed he has.”
“so this…” Roland gasped for breath. “This was all to see if I would run or defend?” he sounded upset at the thought. “If you did not trust me with him then you might as well have slit my throat when you had the chance yesterday, or told your king I was not to be trusted.” He looked around and only now noticed that he was cut on the arm and fingers. Only small cuts nothing to be worried about but they still stung. Looking down he saw the blade he had cut in half was only a practice blade, not one he would have been too worried about had he known. |
Calanon glared at Orist when he saw the weapons master. This was just a test?! What gave him the right to test his guard. He knew that it wasn't necessary. He knew the human would defend him. But, he was relieved that they weren't in any actual danger.
"Why did you feel that you needed to test him, exactly?" he asked him, curious. |
Roland started laughing as the weapons master spoke. “your fathers orders it was highness.” He switched to the high elven tongue so that Roland would not understand. “your father worried that he was sent here to somehow harm the royal family. Though the humans did not know that we would be having him guard you we did not want to risk that he was sent here to kill you.”
|
Calanon smiled slightly when he heard it was his father's orders. Of course it was. "If here was here to kill me and succeeded, it would lead to war." he responded, using the same high elven tongue as Orist.
|
“that is true my lord but it is also true that if they killed you, the kingdom would suffer for it. There would be a time before war was called that they could insert their own into our lands and then pick us off from inside. There are rumors that the humans have new magic that makes animals fallow them into death without a though.” Shaking his head Orist looked over at Roland, who was now washing his face and arms in the water of the pond. “also I was unsure that he would be able to keep you safe for long. He proved that he could keep you safe till help could have arrived. Now I will need to train him on how to call that help.” Turning to Roland he switched back to the common tongue. “human, classes you will have with me. Ways of protecting our lord prince when he takes classes in matters you need not know.”
Roland rolled his eyes barely to show his disagreement of Orists assessment that he did not need to know those things. “And who will guard him when I am not with him?” he asked respectfully. |
Calanon nodded in agreement about what Orist said about war. That is what would most likely happen. He hadn't thought of it like that. But, he felt he could trust Roland. He just hoped he wasn't wrong to.
"I'm sure I'll be safe in the castle. Nobody can get past the gates without being noticed." he told the human. |
“if he were not worried about someone trying to kill you he would not be testing me left and right.” Roland said as he walked back over to the prince to offer him a drink of water from the flask he had. “and I would feel better with the way it seems around here if you did have someone else with you to watch your back.”
“hate to say but the human is observant.” He looked over Roland closely before speaking again. “a threat there has been to your life. Your father said not to worry you, but you guard see it in me somehow. One of the nobles of your father’s lands your life has threatened. Saying that with the human here you shall not be.” Holding up his hand he went on. “The name of the one that threatened is not known to us as of yet, when he is not with you one of the others of my picking will be.” Roland gave Calanon a look of sadness. He had not meant to get the prince tied down to a guard but he had noticed how the weapons master was pushing them. |
Calanon took the flask of water Roland offered him and took a drink. He was silent during the conversation. Though he was sure he would be safe in the castle, it couldn't hurt to have someone watching his back, right.
"Alright. I guess I can deal with another guard watching me while you are training." he told Roland. |
Roland was acting more like a guard then he had the whole time they had been talking the last day or so. “so why was I not told that he could be in more danger and why did it take him getting me to you this morning to have a sword?” suddenly he found that he felt protective of the older elf. He had been trained for this sort of thing but he was worried that Calanon was not ready for this. From all he had known the elves never killed one of their own unless a great law had been broken, now a noble men threatened the princes life because of him.
“Those which did not bring you armor and weapons punished have been.” Orist’s accent now came out more, his native language having been an old dialect of a different branch of elfin, his common now sounded broken. “Punishment have I given out to the offending parties. Report to me you shall when need of weapon or such.” He turned to Calanon again, switching to elfin. “from now on you will report to the guards practice court for weapons training. You should not tell your father as he told me not to tell you of this threat. And I don’t care what spat you two have, he,” he pointed at Roland. “Must be with you at all times unless he is with me. Highness.” |
Calanon nodded in agreement. "Of course. I understand." he told Orist in elven. He turned to Roland.
"Its getting late. We should be heading back to the castle." he told the human. He didn't want to be outside the castle walls once it got dark. It would be easier for assassins to sneak up on him that way and it was, of course, safer at the castle. |
“with this news I agree with you. I was hoping you could show me more of the Palace before dinner if it is alright with lord Orist?” he turned to the weapons master to look at him questioning.
“the palace safe as can be if together you go.” |
"Let's go then." Calanon gathered up his things and got back on his horse. He waited for Roland to be mounted as well before taking off for the castle. They arrived after a awhile.
|
ridding with the prince Roland enjoyed the feel of his horse under him. As they reached the stables he smiled at the prince. “I don’t know about you but I am enjoying this change in my life even if I have to protect you from who know who.”
|
"I agree with you. Let's just hope its a change for the better." Calanon stated, putting his horse back in her stall. He petted her head for a moment before leaving the stables.
|
Reaching out to stop the Prince as he wanted to talk to him a bit more before entering the palace, Roland slipped and pinned the prince to the wall. Their lips gently brushed as Roland’s eyes went wide.
|
Calanon wasn't expecting for Roland to push him against the wall. Nor was he expecting for their lips to brush gently. Nope. Not at all. He froze, his eyes going wide as he stared at the human.
|
Pulling back Roland looked scared and surprised. “I am sorry, I did not mean to.” Crimson rushed up his cheeks. “I never would have taken liberties like that with you your highness!” he was speaking really quickly hoping that the prince was not going to have him killed or maimed or hurt in some way for doing that.
|
"Its alright. I just wasn't expecting it." Calanon told him. He was silent for a moment before pushing Roland away slightly. "We should get inside." He moved past the human and headed towards the castle.
|
Watching Calanon walk away Roland looked at his back in wonder. Most of the men that he had ever seen that happen to, not that many had reacted completely differently. They had attacked their kisser and never were seen with the man again. Or they screamed about how it was unwholesome, yet the prince had acted like it was… well he was not sure what the prince thought of it. “Yes my lord prince.” he voice was soft and meek.
|
Calanon walked through the corridors in silence. He decided a bath would help him relax, so he sent a servant ahead to get it ready for him. But the time he entered the bathroom, it was ready to go. He stripped down and slid into the hot water, instantly relaxing.
