Fallowing Calanon Roland stopped outside of his bathing chambers and waited. He was going to take his guarding the prince seriously, and if the prince disliked it then that was his problem. But he was not going to watch him bath, not after what happened in the stables.
Calanon finished his bath nearly an hour later when the water turned cold. He got out, dried off, and got dressed before leaving the chamber. He looked at Roland for a moment, not surprised to see him standing guard. "So. What do you want to do now?" he asked him.
“Well…” he had been thinking all this time about that almost kiss. A part of him was happy that the prince was not bringing it up but another part was worried that when he was not with Calanon he was going to see his father and have Roland sent somewhere else. “Well…” his fingers found a bit of embroider to play with as he tried to think of what to say. “I don’t know, you’re not going to have me sent away are you?”
"Of course I'm not going to send you away! Why would you think that?!" Calanon asked, shocked that Roland even asked that. He would never send him away. He enjoyed having him around. Plus, he wanted to learn more about the humans and what better way than from a human.
Roland stared at him in surprise. “You have been so quite after what happened in the stable and well.” He had only see it once before, and it had ruined both men. “Most of the people that I have known would have had me sent as far away from them as possible.” His fingers picking at the threads as his eyes dropped not looking at the prince. “They say it’s wrong even if it was an accident.” Calanon was acting nothing like he had expected another prince to. His fingers pulled out a silver thread.
"Well. I'm not like those other men. I'm not going to send you away because of something that accidentally happened." Calanon told him. "Plus. I'm sure only humans act in that way. Elves don't just send people away. Especially not for something that wasn't their fault."
Waving at a seat he waited for the prince to sit. “it is not that it happened accidentally is that if they don’t send the person away then that person might get ideas, thoughts of…” he let the thought drop, if the prince could not figure it out then who was he to teach the older elf.
Calanon took a seat and was silent as Roland spoke. "Thoughts of what?" he asked, both curious and confused. He didn't understand why the human seemed to want to be sent away. He had thought he wanted to be friends, but he obviously was wrong.
sitting down next to the prince he looked over the thread he had pulled out of his clothes. “if you don’t know my lord then I think it wise that I not say.” Shaking his head Roland looked up at Calanon and smiled. “I don’t know what I would like to do but you did say you would teach me elvish.”
"Alright. The best place to do that is in the library." Calanon stated. He stood and led Roland through the halls, soon arriving at their destination. He gathered some books he thought would help before sitting at a table.
Fallowing him Roland looked up at all the books there. “are all of these book in only elvish or are some of them in other tongues?” he sat down next to the prince.
"Most of them are in elvish. But I think there are a few in other tongues." Calanon told him. The books he had chosen were ones that he had read when he was a little boy. It was easier to understand.
looking over the books the prince had chosen he set to work learning what Calanon had to teach him. His eyes every once in a while wandering up to all the books there were.
Calanon took his time teacch Roland elvish. Every time the human's gaze wandered, he would stop talking until he was focused again. After a few hours, he told him they were done for the day.
“thank you for teaching me what you have.” Picking up the books he smiled at Calanon. “sorry if I seemed distracted. Its just all these books. Can I take these books with us to the rooms?”
"Your welcome. I enjoyed teaching you." He told him. And he really did. He thought for a second about Roland's request. "Of course. Take as many as you want."
Holding the books they had been learning from Roland smiled. “Thanks my prince.” he took one last look around the fantastic library and stepped out of the room. Walking down the hall with the prince Roland looked closer at all the statures in the hall and the paintings. “Are these your kings and great warriors?” he stopped at one statue which had a young princess with her hands out stretched as a bird alighted on it. “She is very beautiful, who is she?”
Calanon waited for Roland to grab some books before leaving the room. He walked with him down the halls. "Yes. That's what they are." He said in agreement about the statues. He stopped in front of the one the human was talking about. "I don't remember who that is. Its in one of the books."
“how is it that you do not recall the names of your own relations? I would have thought that you would know every name of the kings and nobles in this hall of statures. At least they stand in the same place all the time and you need not worry of them getting upset that you got the name wrong once.” He walked on before stopping again. “which one of the books?”
"Its not in one I showed you today. And I do know the names. I just can't remember at the moment." He told him "If you want, I can show you which book it is tomorrow."
"I would love that calanon." he went silent for the rest of their walk to the rooms. he wounder if the prince even noticed the wounder and beauty around him. or like many people raised in such a place did not see it.
He was silent for the rest of the walk. He stopped by his door. "Dinner will be ready soon. Be ready to leave." He told him before entering his room.
“Do not worry my prince I will be ready this time and not fainting in the hallway.” He smiled then walked into his own room. Setting the books on the empty shelf Roland sighed and looked around, this was going to be a long time for him. Maybe he needed to go out and see what there was to see outside of the palaces walls. No he decided that would just be a dumb move and one that would get him killed or imprisoned. He changed out of his clothes and quickly washed up before dressing again. He was waiting at the prince’s door when the prince came out.
He smiled a bit himself at what Roland said. He entered his room and went to sit on the balcony. His mind kept going back to that moment at the stables where he and the human almost kissed. He didn't know why, but he couldn't get it out of his head. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he stood and left the room minutes later. He saw Roland and smiled slightly at him. "Let's go." He stated before beginning to walk again.
“there is my son.” The king raised his voice as the two walked into the room. “and this time you have gotten the human to grace us.” He said sarcastically then continued talking to one of his nobles.
“where is it that you want me your highness?” Roland asked quietly, he did not want the others to over hear him and act offended. |
