Leila put her head down, trying to breathe slowly so she wouldn't have a panic attack. It partially worked. She didn't have a panic attack, but she was still far from calm.
"Okay. So what do we do about this?" |
"I want to punch Carlos's teeth down his throat," Katherine said dryly. "But it won't help this particular situation." She sat down next to Leila quietly and put an arm around her shoulders. "We'll figure something out. For now, it doesn't seem like it's too bad. You like your meat a little more on the rare side, and you sleep a bit later in the day. Nothing that can't be worked around."
|
Leila let out her breath slowly, leaning towards Katherine. She was right; it wasn't so bad really. It was just a shock. She could adjust to this, no problem.
"I think I want to punch his face in, too." |
Katherine let Leila cuddle a bit, deftly ignoring the pulse point she could see on her friend's throat. She'd long since learned to ignore it when it came to Leila, and it was coming in handy.
"I bet if we went into Bucharest, we could find you a good burger place or steak house," she offered. |
"That sounds far too good right now," Leila said with a little laugh. "You think we should?" She was worried about what might happen if she encouraged this craving.
|
Katherine shrugged.
"I don't see why not," she said. "Meat is good for humans. And we can easily get a hotel in Bucharest for the night, rather than coming all the way back here." |
Leila considered for a few moments. She did want to see Bucharest. It was definitely on her list of places to go.
"Alright," she agreed. "Maybe we can stay there for a few days? Explore a bit there?" |
"Sure," Elaine replied. "Would you rather leave in the morning, or while it's dark?" Because now, that was a legitimate question.
|
"Any time," Leila said with a shrug. "Sunlight doesn't bother me." Thank goodness. "I'm just a little more tired during the day. I can work past it."
|
"Then how about this," Katherine said. "Make yourself something to eat now, and then pack your bag. We can leave tonight, get a hotel room, and already be in Bucharest by sunup tomorrow."
|
Leila nodded. "Alright. Sounds like a plan to me." She smiled a little and went to go get something to eat. It was too early for steak, so she ended up fixing something else.
But it didn't smell as good. |
While Leila was eating, Katherine checked on her own shoulder injury. It was healing nicely, now that she'd had a couple of days to get more blood into her system, so there wouldn't be any problem with it any more.
|
Leila finished her meal and cleaned up before she looked at Katherine for direction. Katherine was the one in charge here, after all.
|
Katherine gestured to the stairs.
"May as well pack," she said. "I'll go let Uncle know we're leaving." |
Leila nodded and headed up to Katherine's room to pack up her things again. It didn't take her long, fortunately, and then she just sat on the bed for a few minutes, thinking over everything that had happened.
|
Katherine came in a few minutes later and started to pack her own things.
"So... are you still okay?" she asked after a moment. |
"I think so." Leila looked at her. "I mean, it's just... unexpected." She smiled humorlessly.
|
"It always is," Katherine replied, closing her bag. "Unless you ask for it, but that's rare."
|
Leila nodded. She could imagine that. Finally she sighed and shrugged.
"I guess I'll just get used to it." |
Going over, Katherine gave her a hug.
"It'll be okay," she said. She grinned a bit. "Now. Bucharest is waiting. You'll like it, there's a lot of history there." |
Leila smiled, cheering herself with that thought. "You're right. Okay, let's get going. I'm all packed now." She got to her feet, stretching out briefly and glancing out the window.
|
"I'm packed, as well," Katherine said, picking up her bag. "Uncle knows we're leaving--" She paused when she heard a chorus of howls outside, and grinned. "And I think he's out with the pack, now."
|
Leila nodded, just able to see them out the window. "Yeah. They're out running at the moment." She shook herself briefly. "Okay. Well, shall we, then?"
|
Katherine nodded. "Let's go. We can have the driver take us to one of the hotels in Bucharest." She grinned. "I'll even let you pick this time, if you want."
|
Leila laughed quietly. "Nah, I'll trust your judgment," she said with a grin. "You probably know more than I do about this area."
