"Ah." Leila couldn't help but grin. "Well that sucks." Although she couldn't help but be amused.
|
Katherine smothered a snort.
"I could turn that into a really bad pun, you know," she pointed out, grinning a bit. |
Leila giggled. "You don't even have to now," she said with a grin.
|
Katherine couldn't help but giggle a bit as well.
"Good," she said. |
Leila grinned and managed to turn her attention back to the tour at hand.
Later on, though, she paused. "It's almost sunset, isn't it?" They weren't near a window, but she could tell. And it still kind of unsettled her. |
Katherine paused as well and concentrated for a moment.
"Just about," she replied. She could feel the faint tuggings of the day changing, leftover from the years she spent strictly nocturnal. "Why?" |
"Just asking." Leila shrugged, although she was kind of unnerved. She'd never been able to tell, but after a moment she wrote it off as part of her new freaky thing going on.
|
"We could head back to the hotel, if that would make you more comfortable," Katherine offered. "I don't mind."
|
Leila waved off her concerns. "It's fine, it's just something I have to get used to now."
|
"Like I said, we'll figure this out," Katherine said. She nudged her friend. "Come on, let's see what we can of the rest of the museum before they kick us out."
|
Leila nodded and started wandering around again, trying to see as much as she could. It was a nice little museum, really.
|
Katherine tagged along with Leila. She had to agree, it was a nice museum. Soon, though, they were kicked out as the museum closed for the night.
"What say you now?" she asked. |
Leila shrugged. "I'm up for whatever," she said honestly. "Like if we just want to kind of wander around for a bit, or go find dinner or whatever."
|
"Then how about we go back to the hotel and order you some room service?" Katherine replied. "That way, you can settle in while I get something for myself."
|
Leila nodded and started back towards the hotel at a sedate pace. She figured they could take their time, after all.
|
That night and the next day were normal enough. The girls both had fun going around the city and taking in the sights. It was the next night that ended up being the problem.
They were just coming out of a nice shop when Katherine caught the scent of loup-garou. She put a hand on Leila's shoulder to stop her. "Wait," she said softly. "Stay still." |
Leila paused, starting to look around warily. She didn't see anything out of the ordinary... but she also didn't have the same senses Katherine did.
"What is it?" |
"The loup-garou," Katherine said softly, glancing around. "They're close-by. I'm just not sure where."
|
Leila tensed at that. She didn't like the thought of that. "Maybe it'll leave us alone?" She doubted that, but hey, it never hurt to be optimistic.
|
"Maybe..." Katherine said as she looked around. She tensed when she heard footsteps behind them and turned around.
"Well, well," a snide voice said. "A bloodsucker on our turf. Must be our lucky day." There was a group of five, and every one of them smelled like a loup-garou. "I'm not here to make trouble," Katherine said, forcing herself to stay calm. "My friend and I are just here for a few days on vacation." |
Leila looked at the loup-garou in front of them, shifting a little to half-way move behind Katherine. Okay, now she was scared.
|
"Thing is, bloodsucker, this city belongs to the Pack," the leader of the group said. "You and your little blood-slave aren't welcome here. None of your kind are. So it looks like we need to take care of a bit of a pest problem.
"She's my friend, not my thrall," Katherine said. She glanced around, looking for an escape route. "Leave her be." "She certainly smells like one of your slaves," one of the lesser group members jeered. |
Leila stiffened at that. She did not like the sound of this.
One of the others grinned. "I wonder how far she'll go to protect her blood-slave," he asked, still grinning. This could be entertaining. |
Katherine hissed slightly at the loup-garou through her teeth.
"You mangy curs leave her be," she said, stepping in front of Leila protectively. "We didn't come here to make trouble for anyone." |
"Should have thought of that before you came here, fanger," one of them spat. Clearly they were not willing to talk things over.
