"I see." Leila eyed them for a moment before she nodded. That made sense. "Okay." She shrugged and headed inside.
"So are you just following us for kicks and giggles?" Because she couldn't help being a little suspicious with him. |
"Sorta," Carlos said. "Kitty's old-fashioned, for all we know, her idea of fun could be knitting." He smirked and dodged a swipe from Katherine. "Missed."
"I won't a second time," Katherine threatened. |
"Don't diss knitting. It's therapeutic." Leila looked at Carlos with a faint smirk, just waiting for him to say otherwise.
Carlos made a face.
"Kitty's already infected you with her old-lady-ness," he complained jokingly. "I'm too late." This time, Katherine did manage to punch him in the kidney. It just didn't have the same effect as it would on a mortal. |
Leila couldn't help but snicker. Okay, she had to admit, Carlos was pretty funny when he wasn't sucking on her neck.
"Nah, you just don't know what you're going up against," she said to Carlos, already starting to pack up her stuff. |
"Then I'll do my best to measure up," Carlos replied, waggling his eyebrows at her a bit and grinning.
That, of course, made Leila blush again, but she didn't say anything else for the moment, focusing on getting packed.
"Alright, I'm ready to go." |
"Almost," Katherine said distractedly as she crammed some things into her suitcase. They'd done some shopping earlier, after all. She had more now than when they arrived. Finally, with a careful application of strength, she got the bag to close. "Okay. Ready."
Leila nodded and grabbed her bags, heading for the door again. "Do we have a ride back there or do we have to call a cab or something?"
Katherine looked at Carlos, who held up his hands.
"Don't look at me," he said. Katherine sighed and rubbed the bridge of her nose a bit. Then she looked at Leila. "I'll call for a ride," she said. "We'll have to get out of the city first, though." |
Leila nodded. "Okay. That's fine. We can walk, if we have to." She double-checked to make sure she had everything before she nodded.
"Or we can move a bit faster than walking," Carlos said. "That is, if you want to."
"You'll have to tell me exactly what you have in mind first." Leila eyed him. "You'll forgive me if I don't automatically trust you."
Carlos grinned.
"I'm always up for a good run," he said. He looked at Katherine. "Kitty?" "Only if you carry the bags," Katherine said. She didn't mind running, and sometimes it was fun to let loose a bit and really run, which seemed to be what Carlos was alluding to. |
Leila eyed them both for a moment before she nodded. "Alright, that sounds acceptable." She sighed briefly before setting her things down, figuring they'd let her know what she had to do.
"Let's get outside, then," Katherine said. She picked up her bag and Leila's and handed them to Carlos. Carlos made a face, but accepted them and started to head out.
Leila followed Katherine outside easily, taking one last look around. She wasn't sure what running entailed, but she was sure she wouldn't be able to keep up on foot.
Once they were sure they weren't being followed by anyone or anything, Carlos nodded to Katherine. Katherine turned around and knelt down in front of Leila.
"Get on," she said. "Hang on tight." |
"Oh god I'm going to have a heart attack..." But Leila managed to get herself settled, hanging on tightly.
"I promise not to drop you," Katherine said as she stood up again easily. She nodded to Carlos, and he took off into the night. Katherine followed quickly.
"You'd better not." Leila didn't relax, but she didn't have a death grip on Katherine, either. So she figured that would have to be good enough for now.
Neither vampire had trouble jumping along the rooftops to avoid being seen. They didn't want to run into another group of loup-garou before they could get out of the city. To be on the safe side, they went much faster than humans could keep up with, and covered the ground quickly.
Once Leila got over the sheer terror of being carried at speeds that should not be possible on foot, it was kind of neat. Everything was whipping by too quickly to really notice, but it was still neat.
Katherine could tell that Leila wasn't used to going so fast, and had to make an effort to ignore the racing pulse in her ear. Once they were outside of city limits, Katherine slowed and stopped and let Leila down again.
"Still alright?" she asked as Carlos skidded to a stop next to them, kicking up some dirt as he did. |
"Yeah." Leila was still kind of on the adrenaline high, her pulse pounding. "Whew. That was crazy. And kinda fun."
