"I'm sure it will be," Carlos said easily. He grinned. "I've never been to Ireland before, it should be fun." He winked. "Land of mages, don't ya know."
Leila laughed, and then paused. "...Oh you can't be serious."
"What, that Ireland is practically the cradle of magic?" Carlos replied. "Nope, everyone knows that." He shrugged. "I mean, mages are rare amongst humans, but they're still there. Not so much in the states, but in older countries they're there."
Leila sighed. "Aw man... Just how many things am I going to have to get used to? I don't believe in impossible things before breakfast, you know."
"But Alice, you must slay the Jabberwocky," Carlos replied theatrically. He grinned.
Leila snorted. "That one was fun, but still not as fun as the books."
"It was an acid trip either way," Carlos replied. "More than a little insane for the time it was written, but people warmed up to it eventually."
"Yeah, well, Dracula wasn't exactly a huge hit when it was written, either. Nor was Frankenstein." Leila shrugged. "It's just kind of the way things go a lot of the time."
"Dracula wasn't a hit because of Uncle Vlad," Carlos pointed out. "He kept it from being too popular too fast." There was no excuse for Frankenstein, though, not really.
Leila shrugged. "Well, fine, shoot down all my ideas why don't you?" She grinned at him though.
"Well, if you insist," Carlos replied, waggling his eyebrows a bit at her.
Leila just laughed and looked over when she heard the announcement that it was time to board.
"So, who am I sitting with?" |
"What's your number?" Carlos asked. "I've got 17B, so you've got either 17A or 18A."
"I have 18A," Katherine spoke up, finally breaking her own silence. "So you're with me, then," Carlos said to Leila. "Unless you want me and Kitty to switch." |
Leila shrugged. "It doesn't matter to me, whichever of you would prefer company." She glanced at Katherine, figuring she might want some time alone.
Katherine shrugged.
"Doesn't matter to me," she replied. "Whatever you would rather is fine." |
Leila rolled her eyes. "Well, either way is fine with me, really." And if Katherine hadn't objected to her sitting with Carlos then it clearly wasn't that big an issue.
"I'll keep my seat, then," Katherine said, gathering her carry-on. At least one seat behind, she could keep an eye on Carlos and Leila if she had to.
Leila nodded and picked up her carry-on, going back to her seat when it was time.
"You want the window seat or shall I?" she asked Carlos. |
"You take it," Carlos replied. "I don't tempt fate that way."
Leila snorted and scooted in first, getting comfortable there. She preferred the window seat, so that suited her just fine.
Carlos let her get comfortable, and then slid into his own seat. He could hear Katherine getting settled behind them, and absently fiddled with his phone for a moment. The flight wouldn't be long, and the connection they had to make should be easy, so he was relaxed for the moment.
Leila was more anxious to get there so she could get settled in and take a shower. Already she was starting to feel vaguely icky from being in a plane with a bunch of other people.
"Definitely taking a shower later." |
"You'll have time when we stop for the day," Carlos said. "There won't be enough time until after we make our connection."
"I know. I figured." She glanced at him. "I assume we have a place to stay once we get there?"
Carlos took on a mock-offended look.
"Of course," he replied. "I wouldn't book flights and no hotel." |
