"An ocean?" Katherine asked, curious. "Which one?"
"Atlantic. Last I checked, he was in New York." Pritkin shrugged. "I'll need to call him as soon as I can, before he goes to bed and gets too grumpy at me." But he was grinning a little sadistically anyway.
"Ah, the States, then," Katherine said, smiling just a little. "Home."
"I guessed," Pritkin said, his voice dry with a hint of humor. "When would you like a solution by?"
"Soon, preferably," Katherine replied. She looked at him. "And you won't be able to goad me into any sort of patriotic-pride defense. I'm American born and bred, and it's far, far too late to change that." She cracked a slight grin. "Although I know more than a few people who would have gotten all on their pride if they were jabbed about being American."
Pritkin snorted at that. "I'm sure," he said dryly. "Some people are more proud than others." Shaking his head, he stood.
"I should have an answer by tonight. I assume you'll be in town for a few days at least?" |
"A few days sounds about right," Katherine said, nodding.
"I should have everything sorted out by then." Pritkin shrugged. "If not, I'll recommend someone to you in the States."
"Alright," Katherine said. She stood up. "I should get back before my friend wakes and realizes I'm gone."
"I shall see you later, then." Pritkin nodded to her, walking her back up to the front of the shop. Not that he didn't trust her, but he needed to use the landline phone anyway.
Katherine let him escort her out, and she headed back towards the hotel. She could probably do with a few hours' rest before sunset, unless Leila woke her up before then.
Leila didn't wake until mid-afternoon, which annoyed her, but she got up and had some coffee before going to go find Katherine.
Katherine was sleeping, but she'd left the door that connected to Leila's room unlocked and woke up when the door was opened.
"Need something, Lei?" she mumbled, peeking out from under the blankets. |
"No, just wanted to see if you were up." Leila smiled a bit. "Think I might go get some food."
And clearly she was getting too used to the vamps, because a nice medium-rare steak sounded good for dinner. |
"Take my card, get some room service," Katherine replied, burrowing under the covers again. "Not awake yet..."
Leila snorted but did as she suggested, getting room service for brunch and then reading until the other two got up. She'd gotten very good at waiting recently.
Katherine came out of her room a little before sunset showered and dressed.
"Hey," she said. "I didn't mean to keep you waiting so long. Were you able to get room service okay?" |
"Yeah, it was great." Leila grinned, setting her book down. "Very tasty. I'd tell you to try it but you wouldn't appreciate it anymore."
"That, and it would have to come right back up, anyways," Katherine pointed out, perching on the arm of the couch next to her friend. "So it's really best for you to enjoy it and tell me about it."
"Yup, I figured." Leila shook her head and brushed her hair back. "So, do we have any plans for tonight or just more wandering around?"
"I don't have any plans," Katherine said. "Aside from getting you in bed at a reasonable hour so you and I can go about during the day tomorrow to see the touristy things."
"I like that plan." Leila grinned. "And look, Carlos isn't even up yet to make a horrible innuendo out of it."
Katherine couldn't help but snicker.
"No kidding," she said. "And he'd try." |
"He would." Leila grinned suddenly.
"Hey, I wonder if I could start a swear jar with him, only with innuendos." |
"Probably not," Katherine replied, although she actually did pause to think about it. "Although you're welcome to try. Feel free to keep any money you get out of him from it."
