Saif smiled faintly. "I thought you might enjoy having some other company once in a while. I realize you are used to having multiple people around."
"I appreciate it," Aislin said softly. "Thank you. It means a lot to be able to see my sister."
"I'll make sure you can see her often, then. I don't know what it's like, to have siblings, but I suppose Cadr is close enough to count."
"She's my best friend," Aislin said. "My confidante. Everything." That was the best way she could put it into words.
Saif nodded. "You two are very close." That much he could tell easily, just from the little he'd seen of the two.
Aislin nodded.
"We are," she agreed. Softer, she added, "I hope he treats her well." |
Saif blinked. "He should," he said slowly. "He hasn't... cared for a human in a while, but he is not abusive, if that's what you're concerned about." It had never occured to him that she might worry about Cadr's treatment of her sister.
"She deserves to be treated well," Aislin said. "I want her to be happy."
"I'm sure Cadr will do whatever he can," Saif said. "He's not callous. But she'll have to meet him half-way. He can't read minds."
"Sabine can be a little... stubborn," Aislin admitted. "But I do hope they manage."
Saif smiled. "Well. Cadr likes a challenge." It would be entertaining, at least.
Aislin made a vague sound. It would be interesting, but she still wanted to make sure her sister would be okay.
"Don't worry. If Cadr really screws up, she can come stay here." Saif shrugged. It would interrupt his plans, but he could work around it to keep Aislin happy.
That surprised her.
"Thank you," she said softly. "I'd be grateful." |
"If things go badly between the two of them," Saif said gently. "I want to give him a chance, first. But if she seems really unhappy there in a few weeks..."
Aislin nodded. Then she was quiet for a moment.
"Why her?" she finally asked. "We were wondering about it." |
"Honestly? I have no idea. I know Cadr likes a challenge, and I know he likes a woman with a temper. So maybe that's why? That would be my best guess, anyway." Saif shrugged.
Aislin was quiet as she considered that. She just hoped that Sabine and Cadr were up to the challenge of one another, then.
Saif looked at her for a moment before he picked up a few bolts of fabric to take to Cadr.
"I believe I'll give these to him, and maybe I can find out what he has in mind." |
"Alright," Aislin replied. She hesitated for a moment. "I'll go back to Sabine, then."
"Alright." Saif smiled at her. "Let me know if you need anything else."
"I will," Aislin replied. Then she went back to where she last saw her sister.
Sabine was still there, just kind of poking around the temple. She hadn't yet seen Cadr's temple, if he even had a temple, so she was curious.
She looked over when Aislin came back though. "What was that about fabrics?" |
"I'm not sure," Aislin replied. "Apparently Cadr asked for the ones I wasn't going to use."
"Huh. Okie dokie then." Sabine shrugged. "So, anything else about this place you haven't shown me yet?"
