Special Lamp (Kat and AznCo0ki3)
Percy wandered through the cobbled streets, hands in his pockets as he looked at the shops and stalls set up. He didn't have more than a few coins in his pockets, but he'd already bought something to eat and he figured he would find some triffle to spend the rest of his money on. An older woman with a blue scarf tied around her head suddenly called out and he could clearly hear her voice over all the other voices surrounding him.
"Most unique objects you'll ever find!" He couldn't help but pause and tilt his head. Percy pushed his way over to the woman's stall and slipped under the thick blanket roof and into the shade beneath. The tables were packed to the point they were nearly spilling and every object was something he had never seen before. Something like a plate here, a dancing bear here, a wood carving of a strange horned beast. He let out a tiny noise of awe. as awed as he felt though, he was about to turn around and leave, knowing he didn't have the money, when he saw a gold and green lamp that appeared to have been sealed shut. It was the one thing he couldn't stop himself from picking up. The woman suddenly popped up behind him. "You touch it, you buy it." "eh?" he asked. "But I don't have much money..." "I'll take it." And she did. She didn't seem to mind that he payed only enough for a loaf of bread for the exquisite lamp and he was just left there standing in the stall with it, confused. |
Lara had been trapped for roughly six hundred years. Why? Because she had simply tried to be helpful, did she feel bad that they had just locked her away? Yes, but Lara was never vengeful. She was a rather sweet and caring genie, not only if she wasn't so clumsy. It wasn't her fault though, the wishes she granted just came out a bit wrong because Lara tried to make it so that the wish helped the person. Often the result was opposite. |
Percy slipped through the back streets in the way a person who had moved through them his whole life could. The home he lived in was shared with about five other people close in age to him, the youngest being twelve and the oldest twenty. They were all people who had grown up together after losing their parents in the war that was being fought against some distant country Percy didn't know anything about.
The house was mostly empty when he got there. He slipped past the thin cloth that separated his room from the main living area and set down to lamp, laying on the floor in front of it. "Now what to do with you...?" he whispered. He was sure that if he wasn't careful, it would get stolen and it stood out so much against the other simple things he owned even if he had a penchant for collecting odd nick nacks. Reaching out a hand, he lightly brushed the lamp with his finger and began to trace the designs there. |
As Lara had been pacing around she felt a tingle, she gasped. What was this sensation? she thought to herself. There it was again, that tingle, but this time it was much stronger. Slowly, but surely, she felt herself rising. Her already wide eyes grew even wider, her mouth forming an O. Could this be the day she had been waiting for?! Could someone finally have met all the conditions that would have set her free? Never in a million years would she have thought that she would be set free! This was most exciting for the young genie. |
Percy jerked back from the lamp as some sort of mist started coming out of it. He was back on his knees a few feet from the lamp when a woman popped right out of it in a way he couldn't even describe. He stared at her for a few good seconds and finally grabbed the lamp and started to shake it, turning it this way and that, before trying to peer inside. He didn't pay the woman any attention even as she introduced herself enthusiastically. He only fixed all of his attention on the lamp.
|
Lara blinked, she was utterly confused. Did this human not see her? Usually they were awe struck by genies but this man..."Master?" she called out again, her eyebrow raising as she cocked her head to the side. As the male turned and tossed the lamp this way and that Lara winced, "HEY! That is my home!" she cried as she reached for the lamp. |
Percy glanced at the woman and raised an eyebrow at her. He wasn't expecting the woman to fall over like that, but one thing at a time as he always told himself. He continued to try to look into the lamp as he gestured for the woman to be quite. "Shush hallucination, I'm trying to find the mushrooms that were obviously stored in here," he said.
|
Her eye twitched, a human dare tell her to be quiet?! Preposterous...and what was he babbling on about? Mushrooms? She knew of no such thing! After all, if there was something known as a mushroom in her house she would have been the first to know about it! As she sat cross legged something struck her mind, "I am no hallucination!" Lara said as her brows furrowed. She scooted closer to this strange man and slapped his knee. "See?" she said snapping. It was most insulting to be called a hallucination! Pfft, like these humans could ever even imagine something or some one as beautiful as me...Lara thought scornfully. |
Finally Percy stopped to really look at the woman since he wasn't finding any reason for him to be hallucinating. He really didn't think he'd hallucinate something so absurd again. Letting out a huff, he crossed his arms. "Who did you say you were again?" he asked as he registered the feel of her slapping his knee.
|
Lara sighed and grabbed the mans face, she looked into his eyes earnestly. "I am a genie, you have set me free from my curse. You are now my master and I am here to grant your wishes" she spoke slowly, only letting go of his face once she was done speaking. "I can grant any wish except the wish of resurrection, that is not for a genie to fiddle with" she explained to her Master patiently. "Is there anything you desire? Perhaps a woman, or maybe money? How about power?" Lara listed the usual humans wished for. As she waited for his request she took this chance to take the lamp from her Masters hand gently and cradle it in her arms. |
Percy made a face at the woman who claimed to be a genie. He didn't like being touched so frivolously, but he just pursed his lips and lightly shifted back from her. He took his time to think her words over. "I don't desire any of those things," he said finally, a look of disgust growing on his face particularly at the thought of asking for a woman. Men could really be uncouth if that was to be listed right next to money and power. He let out a sigh.
"Look...um, Lara. I'm not the sort that wants to frivolously wish for things I'd rather do on my own, so maybe you should just pack away your lamp and go find a new master." |
Lara flinched a little as he moved back suddenly, "Forgive me" she said simply as she folded her hands back onto her lap. She had forgotten, not everyone was the same, most people were usually scared or skeptical of her. Lara opened her mouth to say something but then closed it again. Go..back? She shook her head in defiance, NO. She could not go back or rather she would not go back. "Y..you do not understand! I..I can't go back! I was locked away and you have unlocked me! I..I'm not like the others!" the girl fumbled over words, she looked away as she felt the pricks of tears in her eyes. |
Percy let out a loud sigh. Lara seemed like she might be a troublesome person to keep around. If he couldn't simply request her to go away, then maybe he should quickly with a few things so it would be over. He couldn't think of anything though. It should have been easy since he didn't have much, but now that he thought he had to think of something, he could not. He turned his attention back to Lara.
"okay, okay, I understand. Do I get like three wishes or something? I'm sure I read that somewhere before." He supposed he could wish for books. He did like to read and they were so hard for someone like him to come across. |
Lara sat up a bit straighter as she heard his words, she smiled and clapped her hands together like a little child. When he questioned her about the wishes she merely shrugged her delicate shoulder. "You can make one, you can make three or you can make a thousand!" Lara said as her crimson eyes sparkled on! This was much too exciting for the still young genie. This was often a misconception for humans, they didn't get just three wishes, I mean doesn't that seem rather unfair for people who've worked hard to discover the genie lamps? |
"So there's not a limit..." Percy interpreted from the overly excited genie's speech. That just wouldn't do then. He didn't think he'd be able to get ride of her quickly at all and the thought was starting to give him a headache. "I really can't think on this now. I should go make dinner," he said, grabbing the bag of food he'd bought early and slowly pulling himself to his feet.
|
Lara gasped when he said he had to make dinner! "That's it! I can make that for you! Just wish for anything that you desire to eat!" she told him with a huge grin. Lara was totally oblivious to her new Masters feelings, but who could blame her? She hadn't been around humans for nearly a millenium. Her mouth fell slightly open, "Master! What is your name?" she asked him innocently. Though Lara would be referring to him as Master for the duration of her stay, she was still curious about the humans name. |
Percy suppressed another sigh. Did he really need to explain that he'd prefer to make the dinner himself? He dropped his bag on a wooden shelf that served as the kitchen counter and pulled out a loaf of bread then fetched the knife to cut it. "My name is Percy. Please do call me that instead of master and I don't--," he started. The knife was ripped at the bread instead of cutting it properly and he lifted it to inspect the dull edge. "Actually, can I just wish for a new knife? will that make you happy?"
|
"Percy.." Lara repeated his name, it had a different ring too it. She followed behind him like a lost puppy, she stopped short behind him as he suddenly stopped. Lara looked at him curiously, her eyes shone up in delight as Percy said he wished for a new knife! "As you wish Mas..Percy" Lara said grinning ear-to-ear. With a snap of her fingers a new knife lay in Percy's hand..or rather the knife was Percy's hand...Lara looked up to see if she had pleased her new Master with her skills or not. |
Percy waited for the knife to fall into his hands. He had never stopped looking at the bread, but when he felt a strange tingle instead of the wait of a knife in his hand, he looked down. For a good solid second, he just stared. He was starting to wonder if he could trust his eyes. The genie was madly grinning though and it all snapped into place. He whirled around to face her. "What have you done!?" he yelped, his voice going up an octave as his eyes widened.
|
Lara blinked, she was confused. "I..I gave you a knife just like you wanted!" she told him as her bottom lip stuck out in a pout. Ungrateful human... Lara didn't understand what could possibly be wrong, I mean...wasn't it more convenient to have something sharp for your hand? You could use it when ever and where ever, and if someone tried to harm you would be able to scare them off easily! |
Percy had to try hard not to wave around his dangerous hand when he wanted to wave them wildly. "B-but, you...arg!" he exclaimed. He was beginning to understand why this genie was locked away. Unless, heaven forbid, there was something worse to come. "Okay yes, but I'm not in some death game where I need a weapon with me at all times! I just, Jesus girl, just give me back my normal hand!!"
