Bio- is the outcast in school for loving video games but in that world she is much much more important.

Luna smirked as she walked down through the castle to the courtyard where all of the new gamers would spon for the introduction to the game. "Hello and welcome brave ladies and gentlemen! You have joined the bright and wonderful kingdom known as Nightonia! I am Prince Lunaria and I will be picking a few of the best beginners to train directly under me and for me to help on any quest that needs to be done. Now there are some things all of you should know. If I am to pick you as my understudy the castle is only open and I am only here before and after school times which will be changing soon for the fact that I am changing locations. On weekends I will be on all day and most of the night and on any day that I am out I will be on more, if you want to know more about the castles foreseeable times please check your guilds. Now without further adue let us start the beginning battles!" she announced in a loud proud voice before holding up a staff and making an arena appear around them and she lifted up into one of the higher stands so she could see everything.

Ulric smiled as he listened to her and couldn't' wait. His last game had gotten rather boring since he had become the top player in it and now was looking for a challenge. Hopefully this place would be it and maybe he would get a chance to train under the princess. Pulling out his twin swords, he smiled as his blond hair blew in the wind slightly. He had designed the character to look like him the only change was that he had long blond hair pulled into a pony tail and his eyes were two different colors, gold and green. He wore boots and some black pants and to go with it a black jacket. He looked tough and if the other players thought he would be easy to beat they would be wrong.

Soon the battles started and after a while it was clear he would be a winner. He beat anyone that came towards him with effort and ease that most of the others couldn't even come close to. Years of secret playing had given him a lot of knowledge on game play like this and he was determined to be one of the winners to be trained under her.

The battles took awhile to all settle and in the end there were three warriors standing in front of the stand and Lunaria floated back down. "Now you all have won and will have a spot in the castle to train and get special quests and rewards but only one of you can be my personal understudy. My understudy will be added to an exclusive guild and given some of the rarest weapons and armors, but you will have to choose carefully when picking what you want, there is no changing your abilities or race or anything of the sort if you are my understudy. Once the final battle has bee decided you will have options pulled up on your screen with all of the different races and jobs, choose wisely for this will be the only character that you can have access to all of the races in the game that aren't normally offered to beginners without paying allot of real money for them. Now that you know everything it is time to start the final battle" she said informatively before holding up her staff again and she vanished as the battle started.

Ulric smiled as he held up his swords and looked at his opponents. They were both big, easy to see that they had both picked being tanks in the game. But he wasn't one for being a big guy, he was happy being the small guy who was fast rather then slow and Bulky. Holding up his swords, he smiled as the guys seemed to agree on something. Turning to him, they both charged at him. Smirking to himself, Ulric moved quickly, charging back and right at the last second jumping. Quickly swinging his blades, he landed on the ground without a sound and the one man groaned before falling down. Turning to the other guy, Ulric smiled and without a second thought charged. After a minute the guy was on the ground with the other and Ulric placed a foot on him. Holding up his blade towards the castle, he smiled. "I am the Winner."

"Very very good brave warrior! Now that you have wo there should come a screen that shows your character, please do pick whatever you want on it. The rare races are much much stronger then the race you are in now. If you like I can show you the powers of all of them before you pick. There is only one way to be able to switch back and forth between the races however and only six people in the entire game have the ability, I am one of them, three of them are my students, one is my own teacher and the other is the most powerful boss in the game, Kig Darkania ruler of the demonic realm that has been trying to take over this realm since the beginning of the game ten years ago, before the game was ever even virtualized." Lunaria explained before the screen popped up and she wondered some if he wanted her to show him the different races.

Ulric smiled when he heard her and watched as she screen came up and waited as he looked at all the names. He wasn't sure which one to pick or how any of them looked. Looking up at Lunaria, he bowed slightly, "it would be a honor for you to show me each one before I choose. I would rather know which one suits me best instead of choosing blindly." he said and you could hear some commotion going on from the people watching. Most people would just chose and go, but he was someone who had been playing games for a long time and he would rather like to know what he was getting into. In truth if he didn't like any of the races he was going to sick with what he was now and that was just a simple half Elf.

"Well there's the dragonians, shape shifters, elementalists, ice elves, fire elves, light elves, vampires, were-wolves that can actually turn into wolves, shadow walkers which are pretty much the same as dark elemetals but don't have the ability to use other elements like elementalists." Princess Lunaria explained shifting into all of the different races so he could see them all. "And of course there are the beginners which you have already seen. If you would like me to show you any of them again please ask and take your time as you read each description, make sure that the race is the one that fits you best." she smiled warmly knowing that the ones that had made it so high up in the game had chosen either the dragonian, shapeshifter, or elementalist but if he figured that out she would be rather surprised. She herself had picked to be a dragon when she had won the contest.

Ulric watched and listened to each of the races he could pick if he wished. He had been playing long enough to know what to do when it came to this. Quickly he started to read all the descriptions and matched them to what he had played before. Quickly he had sorted out everything down to three. He was either going to be a shapeshifter, shadow walker or what he was now. Abruptly he sat down indian style on the body of the guy he had beat and thought. Some of the people looked at him odd as he sat there and thought and some started to yell at him to choose already. But he blocked it all out as he thought about the game. He knew it was only going to get worse on and the what he was now was great, but it did have it's disadvantages. THe shapeshifter had many great advantages and he could see why many would choose it.And the shadow walker sounded nice and fit him pretty well but it wasn't as good as shapeshifter and not many picked it because of that. But he had learned playing other games that sometimes sticking to the basics were better. Groaning, he rubbed his head. "god why does it have to be hard." he muttered and then clamped his hand over his eyes as he raised a hand, "which ever my finger lands on is what I am going to be stuck with." he said and then trust his hand forward. He waited for the confirmation of what he had picked and soon you heard the words, "you have picked shadow walker."

"Congratulations my young shadow walker. That is a very good choice indeed! That was my second choice when I started but I ended up choosing the dragonian even though if you are wounded horribly it is more likely that you will loose a life. Do not listen to the others here though, I didn't, everyone told me not to pick the dragon but I went ahead anyway ad never once died. Now then, rise you two I will have my friends start your training and I will meet up with you later." she said to the two others that had fallen in the final match. "If you are ready we can start your training now or we can start with some basic quests, whichever you would like better." Lunaria smiled as the two other highest leveled players came forward to take the two other men to start training.

Ulric smiled as he listened to her and nodded. IN truth he knew very few people who picked being shadow walkers, mostly everyone picked one of the better ones since they sounded cooler and were better. But he was sure to like this. As the guys he beat stood up he ran over to them. Shaking there hands, he smiled, "it was a great fight, but you two could use some work." he said before turning to look at Lunaria. "and I always say the best way to train is to go on quests." he said as he smiled at her. Sure you can train but he found it easier to learn as you go. "so lets head out and have some fun." he said as he smiled up at Lunaria and waited for her to take him.

"Very well then but do remember we do not have much time tonight. Here the sun sets at ten o'clock and that is when I need to leave, you will be able to go through certain parts of the castle, such as the training hall, garden, and gathering places but everywhere else in the castle will be sealed untill you are at a higher level. Now then do you want to start where most shadow walkers start or another area? You may choose to start in any of the beginner spauning areas." she said softly before waving her hand and a large map came up on his screen showing all of the beginner areas that he could choose from and how hard the areas would be for a shadow walker.

Ulric nodded when he heard her and then looked at the map, "I am going to start at one of the beginner area's. I am sure I can make it through without much problem." he said and then looked up at her and smiled. "and my bedtime is about the same time. Kind of need to get a good nights sleep for school." he said as he started to go through some of the new abilities that he had. He liked the sounds of some of them and was kind of surprised that their weren't many other shadow walkers. With the abilities that he had he could basically beat the crap out of any opponent if used correctly. But then again any kind of light attacks basically killed him right away.

"Now I will warn you, I will help you and guide you but I can not fight your battles, that would make the game pointless, but what I can do is I can keep too many enemies from coming at you at once until you are at a higher level. Why don't you go ahead and equip your new equipment? You should have some rare items in your inventory, but be warned there are only three ways you can have your armor and weapons, magic, strength, and defense. My suggestion is to go with defense because it prevents too much harm from light attacks... but that's just me pick whichever you like." Lunaria said softly before her avatar turned into a pale short white haired girl with rather large black wings. This was her real shadow walker character instead of the one that was shown at the beginners battles.

Ulric nodded as he listened to her and he seemed confident in what he was going to be doing. Looking threw his new equipment, he smiled to himself and quickly started to attack what he wanted. He liked the knew armor he got, it was light and enhanced his magic which was great for what he was planning. But what caught his eyes was his new weapon, something very rare, a scythe. Smiling at it, he switched his sword out for his new scythe. "now this is going to be fun." he said as he looked at it and then a finger over the edge of it. He then looked at her, "and don't worry about me. I have been playing games for a long time, I know how they work and I know what I am doing." he said and it was clear he did. "now lets head out, I want to get in some game play before my mother forces me off my laptop." he said as he looked at her and smiled.

"Your laptop is compatible with the virtual reality helmet? I had to buy the new system for the game after it was virtualized." Lunaria said before nodding and they teleported to the location that he wanted to start at. "And I had already figured that you knew your way around a game, I just was going to help you if you needed to know about the different abilities." she explained before she started to walk around and all of the monsters either avoided her or came up to her and rubbed against her as if they were just friendly creatures... but as soon as Ulric came close they started to look like they were about to attack.

Ulric smiled, "actually it wasn't compatible at first but I am kind of a computer nut. So after a little while of tinkering and buying a part here and there it was. It actually works better then any other computer I have used now." he said as he smiled at her.ONce they were at the area he was at, he smiled as he watched how the animals treated her, "so how long have you been playing this game?" he asked as he started to swing his scythe with ease. He quickly dispatched a monster here and their, but he hardly noticed the one behind him. Yet as it came at him, he seemed to melt into darkness and appear behind him, killing the monster. "you know I think I like being a shadow walker, I feel like the grim reaper." he said as he walked around. The magic was nice, he was able to liquify his body and go into shadows and if he really wanted to he could use the shadows to attack if he wanted. But he liked his scythe, especially since each time it made a hit and drew blood, it absorbed the blood and gave him back health.

"I have been playing this game for about seven and a half years... or eight years... either way I have been on here since before the game was virtualized three years ago. I was the first student picked by the game creator who taught me everything I know... I studied along side King Darkania before he turned evil and tried to take over the whole game... I was actually one of the ones that stopped him, now every month or so he comes back and battles me for the throne and title that I recieved after being here for only two and a half years... give or take. heh... I pretty much live this game... but not like my teacher... he is stuck here because he forgot to take his helmet off after 24 hours straight... he's been growing weaker ever since and no one can pull him out of the game." Lunaria said then sighed at the end having known the creator of the game personally and wished that he had been smarter about falling asleep with the virtual reality helmet on.

Ulric nodded as he listened and continued working his way through the monsters, slowly getting easier and easier. HIs shadows started to pull monsters in and seemed to eat them, killing them instantly. "I see, I have actually been playing games like this for most of my life or at least when I get the chance. I have actually wanted to play this game for a while because of the virtuality of it but I finally got my hands on it a few days ago." he said as he played though frowned when he heard her. Cutting down the last of the monsters he looked down at the ground, "maybe he doesn't want to be found." he said to her softly. "because I know sometimes I never want to stop playing, maybe that is how he felt." He knew she probably didn't' want to hear it but it could be true. It was one of the reasons he pushed off playing this game till his senior year. Because if he found that once he graduated and there was nothing in the human world to hold him there, he was going to cut himself off in here. It wasn't exactly suicide, he was just trading off lives. He then looked at her and smiled, "sorry to get all depressing." he said as he tried to make this a cheery conversation and then realized something, "I never introduced myself." holding out his hand, he smiled, "I am Ulric."

"No I have went to see him... if you disconnect the body from the game the person is sure to die and will end up either being stuck in the game forever or dying in the game and going brain dead in real life... there's a team of doctors trying to figure out how to save them... but trust me you don't want to seal yourself into this game... if you do and you die you could either go into a coma in real life or die." Lunaria said softly then smiled and took his hand "Well it's nice to meet you Ulric, you may call me Luna." she smiled easily then looked up at the sky and saw that it was getting close to sun set.

Ulric listened to her and had known that to a degree but even with the new information he still was going to do it. "well it all depends on the person." he said as he looked at her. "sometimes life outside of this just doesn't' feel like it is worth living, especially if you find that you have nothing on the outside and everything in here." It was clear that he had given this a lot of thought. After years of having no one, he found only in games to be fun and worth living for sometimes. Shaking her hand, he smiled, "it is great to met you." he said happily but then sighed as he saw the sun, "great, I have to get off soon." he groaned softly and you could tell he didn't want too. There was only two things his parents cared about, their company and making sure everyone in the house got at least 8 hours of sleep. That last one included him even though they never talked to him.

"I think we have more in common then either of us thought... I mean even I have thought about just staying in the game... but after I saw how bad of shape my friend is in I wouldn't want to do that... Here I'll show you it will only take a second and then I'll need to get off." Lunaria said softly before taking them both back to the castle and lead him to a locked door that she unlocked to reveal a beautiful large room. On the huge bed to one side was a male in his mid twenties who looked wise but weakened. "Good evening master." she greeted him kindly as she moved over to him and he looked up at her ad a smile graced his weak face. "Luna... oh how I wish I could have see the battle you fought the other day, Kaji said that it was amazing." he said weakly and she smiled some tears coming to her eyes. "well I don't know about that... how are you feeling? I brought my new understudy to meet you if you are up for it." she said softly and he caughed before having her help him sit up. "I am as good as I can be... I think that the doctors might have accidentally given my body some medicine that didn't agree with it, I haven't felt well for the last week." he said softly before looking over at Ulric and gave him a slight smile. "Well hello there, I see you picked the shadow walker... a very interestig race indeed." he said then looked up at Luna. "I need you to come over to my house in a few days.... I want you to have the programing codes and documents on this whole game... you'll find the address for the building that the main computer is in in the files... when I was resting... I over heard the doctors say they don't know how long I have... I'm so sorry Luna... I really should have just listened to you." he sighed before he started to cough and Luna helped him lay back down and made sure he was comfortable before he started to fall asleep. She walked back to the door and motioned for Ulric to fallow her head hung low and tears were falling from her eyes even if you couldn't see them... you could see them hit the floor.

Ulric was surprised when he heard her and frowned as he followed her to the room. Seeing hte old man laying there on the bed and how badly it affected Luna made his heart ache. But he knew even if he managed to get in a shape like that no one on the outside would care. Yet it was still hard to see. When she walked out of there, he just followed her and wordlessly wrapped a arm around her, "I am sorry you have to see him like that, but at least he knows he has you to take care of and know that you care for him." he said softly and found he wished he could have something like that. To know that someone wanted him to be on the outside with them and care for them. Sighing, he looked down at her, "and sadly I have to get off, maybe tomorrow we can meet up again." he said as he smiled at her, "see you later." and before he could say anything else his internet shut off.

Sighing, he pulled off his helmet and laid there. HIs parents had gotten a programer to install a timer on the internet and he couldn't break the code. It was why he always had to get off at that time. But one day he would break it and when he did that might be the last day he stayed on the outside. Closing his eyes, he was soon fast asleep and dreading going to class.
