Lilac blushed a bit but nodded. "I'll keep that in mind," she said. She wasn't likely to forget, either; how often did the king owe people favors? But she also had no idea if or when she'd go back to the mer-city.
Once the truck stopped, she got out and directed them to take the container to the water line. She figured from there he could get out fairly easy, since they set the container so it was close to the ground. |
Bryn waited patiently as the container was put near the water and was opened. While he wasn't very graceful getting into deeper water, once he did, he glanced back at Lilac one more time before disappearing.
Lilac watched him go and shook herself before she got back in the truck to head back to the aquarium. Time to actually get back to work.
Back at the aquarium, Primrose was watching the doors from where she was settled amongst the corals.
"It's been a while since I spent any significant time in the water," she admitted after a moment. "I had almost forgotten what it felt like." |
"I can't imagine living topside for long," Allyn said from above her where he was curled around a strand of kelp, playing with some fish.
"No, I don't imagine you could," Primrose said. She was quiet for a moment. "I think it was easier for me to do it because I didn't have much to leave behind. I wasn't going to be missed like you would be. And probably are."
"Now that my cousin is back he'll be able to assure everyone that I'm fine," Allyn said with a little shrug. He did look over at her, though. "Do you have no family left?"
"I told my mother I was moving topside," Primrose replied. "I never knew my father, though. And I'm an only child."
Allyn nodded. That was a bit unusual, but not unheard of. So he was quiet for a few moments.
"What made you decide to move up here?" |
"I felt like I needed a change," Primrose replied. "I wasn't... happy. I wanted something different."
"Ah." Allyn could understand not being content with life, although he never really had been. "And how has that worked out for you?"
"It was working fine right up until a couple weeks ago," Primrose replied, looking at him. "So what about you? How did a pair of royals get caught by humans?"
"We were out away from the city," Allyn said with a little shrug. "We didn't have any guards with is. Bryn had sent them away for a little time away from the responsibilities."
Primrose nodded a bit. She could understand that.
"Well, at least one of you is out of here," she said, settling own onto the sand and resting her head on her arms. |
"Yes. That is better than I expected." Allyn shrugged. He was okay staying in the tank for a while.
"I'm sorry I couldn't get you both out," Primrose said. She glanced over when she saw movement outside the tank. "Doors are open. Public hours just started."
"Wonderful," Allyn muttered, though he didn't move. "Hopefully there will be no small children pounding on the glass today."
"Tell them off," Primrose replied, shrugging. "Parents know it's not allowed, but they don't bother controlling their spawn because usually the thing behind the glass can't complain. We're different."
Allyn smirked at that. Oh, he'd keep that in mind now. And he would definitely have fun scaring them if he had to.
Primrose watched people gather around the tank, and finally sighed and got up from where she'd settled on the coral bed. She could see everyone outside the glass gasp when they saw her.
"And they don't care that I'm so much plainer," she commented to Allyn. |
"Of course not," Allyn said quietly. "You are curious enough that you are still interesting to look at, even if you do not have the extra fins and such that I do."
"The novelty is going to take forever to wear off," Primrose muttered as she settled back on the sand again.
"Yes," Allyn agreed grimly. "However, it could be worse. At least they aren't allowed in the tank."
"Thankfully," Primrose replied. "I'm sure I'd be tempted to drown some if they were."
"I wouldn't just be tempted." Allyn shook his head a bit and flicked his tail in annoyance at all the flashes on the other side of the glass.
