Dark Magic

An rp for Neko and Papi. Warning for blood, and scenes of horror.

Over-looking the sleepy village of Evoy, nestled in the valley of the mountain ranges below, sat the formidable Ayling castle. The family had been chosen by the King himself to look over the village as Lords of the land. Years passed with no problems, until Lord Ayling died, leaving the castle to his only son. Gradually, the Aylings had less and less to do with Evon, and soon the village ran on its own. The castle fell into clouds of secrets and suspicion. No one knew if Meleager still lived and if anyone even lived or worked in the castle. Mothers warned their children, that if they wondered too close, their souls would be eaten by ghosts. Devin never had a mother to warn him.

Leaving the safety of the village's walls at dawn, the blonde-haired youth made his way towards the large cliff that the castle sat on. He had been living on the streets all his life, meaning that he was street wise and ready to take on any challenge, even if it was a bad idea. Panting slightly, he slowed down near the mid-way point, sitting on a rock and looking over the view. It was day now, and the village below was waking up, carrying on their usual business, uncaring for the lone youth steadily climbing to the castle.

And why was he making this trek? Some would think it to be dangerous, or even foolish. Devin thought only with logic. That big castle up there was supposed to be empty. Therefore, it would make a great home, and possibly have some treasures or gold left from the days that the Aylings lived there. Devin doubted that Meleager was even alive, as it had been more than 50 years since he was last seen.

The teen finished the water he had brought with him and stood, shouldering his small pack and continuing up the steep slope. It was midday when he finally reached the old wooden doors of the fortress. Panting slightly and wiping the sweat from his brow, he tried the doors and found them locked shut. Laughing at himself, he started around the castle's stone walls until he found an opening. A small service door that was once used as a means to bring supplies into the castle. Devin tried these doors and found them easy to open. Struggling through the small hole, he crawled out into a large kitchen. Sneezing from the dust and brushing spiders from his hair. He stood and glanced around the ancient kitchen. It wasn't as misused as he thought, some of the stoves looked very clean and as though someone had used it recently. Great, he thought, someone bet me to this place.

Pulling out a small pocket knife, Devin crept quietly along into other rooms, sensing that he wasn't alone in this place. He came across a library and found an open book sitting on a worn table. He approached cautiously, looking about himself for signs of a trap.

Meleager sighed as he regarded himself in the mirror. He still hadn't reached perfection, not with all the flaws still upon his features. Pointed ears, the elegance of an elf: amber eyes with slits, like those of a feline shifter: the white fans of a vampire ... That last one had some negative side effects, but oh the power that came with it! He was no vampire of course, he simply liked his meat rarer then most. It was more of a simulacrum of the real thing, what his teeth were.

An odd sensation ran down his spine, making his eyes narrow and a hiss escape the tall man's lips. Darn brown hair flared away from his shoulders as he slipped from his room and towards his study with elegant movements. Meleager knew the feel of his home well, and this new energy was not supposed to be there. Had some one found out about his research and come to steal the spells away? Never would he let them! It had taken him too long to reach this point.

With these thoughts, he stepped into his study. Books lined the walls, spelled to keep through the years. Their usty smell helped to calm Meleager's ire somewhat. "Has someone finally come to steal my spells then?" The words were more silent musing, then a question. The next snapped phrase were another matter entirely. "Who are you? Speak, or face the consequences!" His fists clenched tight as he strode into the room to block the stranger's way of escape.

Devin jumped a metre in the air, his heart beating so fast he thought he was about to have a heart attack. Many years he had broken into buildings and houses and he never had been caught. This man... This creature standing before him looked deadly. He had heard about vampires and demons before, but he never knew that they still existed. Bringing his pocket knife up in his defence, he glared back at the amber stare.

"What's it to you?" he growled back. He glanced about quickly, searching for an escape. Even if he stabbed the man, who was ten times bigger than him, it would be tricky to escape without some sort of harm coming to him. He remained calm, knowing that if he showed fear, he would be showing weakness.

He sneered, amber eyes flashing. "I am Meleager Ayling, and this is my home. You are trespassing, boy. Drop the knife, now." As he spoke the last words, mentally the mage crafted a spell to make the metal burn. The heat would probably make the young man drop the weapon. Though he wanted the blonde gone, Meleager didn't truly want to harm him. Frightening the trespasser had to be enough.

No one was allowed to see him until his form was complete. The thought made his blood run cold. The boy had seen his imperfect form. A snarl escaped the mage before he could stop it. "On second thought, perhaps I should keep you here as my bound slave. It would make things so much easier." No one could see him before he was done... Not without consequences.

The knife in his hand started to burn and he dropped it in surprise, glancing from the red hot metal back to the creature before him. Spells? Magic? He shook, backing off slightly and cornering himself between the wall and the table with the open book. He had stumbled upon something he should never have, something that was in fairy tales and folklore... A magic user. He trembled, wildly searching for a place to escape to. A slave? No way! Devin was a free man. He would not let this creature take away his freedom.

"What'd you say? You some kind of witch? I have family that will come looking for me if anything were to happen."

"I doubt that very much. No one would dare look here." The words were spoken softly as the mage stepped forward, one hand reaching to grab the youth's arm. The other hand fumbled something from his belt. A knife blade flashing silver in the light, then slashing down to meet flesh. He used it to make red blood well from his own skin with a wince, then melded the two wounds together by grabbing the other arm.

"Bound to me you will be, until I see fit to change the circumstances. Obey me, protect me. This your new duty shall be. Other formulations went on behind the words, a distance being set, rules being set into place silently. He hoped the boy didn't struggle. Things would be nearly impossible if he did.

Devin tried to struggle as the creature approached him with a knife. He winced when cut and cried out when their wounds were pushed together. "What the-? What are you doing to me?" He pulled away, kicking out and trying to get away from the crazy man. "Stop! Stop!" he cried, feeling strangely weak. Soon he was spinning and fell to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably. He could feel fire burning through his veins, squeezing his heart until he could barely breathe. He could struggle against this man, that had doomed him to be a slave. He felt his whole life disappearing. He existed only to serve this man. He cried harder, curling up until he blacked out.

He released the youth once the spell had been sent. Regret flitted through his mind, but it had been done. Meleager could cancel his words as easily as he'd set them free, but something stopped him. It was lonely, having no one else to speak with withing the castle. This man had already seen his face, and now was bound to do as he willed. For a while, it would be nice to take advantage of that. The mage didn't intend to use his spell in any malicious way of course.

The golden skinned man thought of this as he bent down to gather the youth in his arms and walked into one of the nearby bedrooms. It was a sumptuous one, covered with soft blankets and comforting colors. Carefully, he tucked his new companion between the covers and took a moment to heal the wound he'd created. At least the man would wake up safe. Shaking his head, the mage returned to his study and research. He would know when the other man awoke, and could guess that it would be best if he was nowhere in sight.

Devin's dreams were full of false memories, as always. He had never had a friend or even family. Just himself. And yet, his dreams always lied to him, filling him with glimpses of his mother and father, and the childhood that he could have had. He shook awake from the dream, sitting upright and glancing around his new surroundings. A nice room fitted with many fancy furnishings and a very comfortable bed.

He remembered dully where he was, but couldn't remember how he got there, or even who he was... He sighed and rolled out of the bed, searching the room for something he could use to remember the events of the day.

The mage elbowed his books aside to spread out the scroll. Spidery script covered it. There were so many spells not yet deciphered upon its surface ... Meleager opened his mouth to begin speaking an incantation of translation, but a tug at the back of his mind signaled the wakefulness of his new companion. Instead of rushing to the youth's side, he murmured a few words and transported pastries from the kitchen to the bedside table of his mother's old room. He knew exactly where it was, and had more practice using such a spell then he wanted to.

Devin heard a strange humming noise and, with a bright flash of golden light, a small silver tray landed on the bedside table. He cautiously moved closer to investigate, seeing that it was full with pastries and juices. Realising that he was starving, he shovelled the food into his mouth, drinking the juice down after he had finished. He burped in comfort and moved about the room again. He started to wonder how the food got there, deciding that he was in a dream.

He left the bedroom and explored the long hallways lined with paintings of grumpy looking old men and naked ladies. He paused outside a closed door and heard talking inside. He knew that the man behind this door was the one behind all of this. But somehow he was prevented to break into the room to demand answers. Instead he wandered about the large castle, poking his nose into anything mildly interesting.

He had been bent over another tome when he felt a presence trying to sneak into his workroom. Shaking his head, the mage reinforced the spells preventing entry without permission. Later he would give the boy a tour, but for now he was entirely too busy with his research. It would help him learn how to rid himself of the blood craving. That was an annoyance Meleager could do without.

After a while, he gave up. It was then that he finally left the room, and let his feet wander to towards his new pet, captive .... Meleager had no idea what to call the youth he'd bound to him. At last, the man saw him again. "Have you found anything interesting?" He wondered if his silent steps had been heard.
