Annika chuckled to herself after Kirin left. She didn't understand why he had kissed her on the cheek as it was the sort of move that created misunderstanding. Well, she didn't mind it in the end. She took another look around the room then left herself. She went to find her father and sat talking with him somewhere private. He was pleased that she and Kirin were getting along and would marry properly, though she didn't bother to explain that both of them planned to pursue romances outside of the marriage. Her father planned to stick around and supervise until the marriage, but it seemed he would keep his nose a little less prominently out of her business.
She was glad to be done with that conversation and found a wide window to sit under in some out of the way hall while she waited for dinner time. |
Kirin went to the kitchen to put in the dinner order for three. He then headed back to his rooms, after a brief talk with his mother. He walked into his room. "Cain?" He called walking into their room.
Cain appeared from the balcony from where he had been taking a nap out of sheer boredom. The nap had made him tired rather than alert though, so he had to stifle a yawn as he went inside to meet Kirin. "Ah hello. Was the meeting hellish like you thought it would be?" he asked, grinning.
"Not as bad as I thought, once we got away from her father. She is a very understanding young lady." He said with a smile going to him and pulling him close. He kissed him deeply. "We will be having dinner with her later this evening." He said with a smile.
Cain blinked up at Kirin, quite surprised at the kiss, but he didn't pull away. "I see...It's good that she's a likeable sort," he said hesitantly. He just nodded his head to the idea of dinner, but he wondered if it would go as well as Kirin seemed to think it would. He wasn't sure if it was good or bad that she was likeable.
"We have also come to an understanding that when she finds her somebody special we will go our separate ways." He nuzzled Cain just loving being close to him. "If you are alright with it I will want you to be part of the wedding. Though if you are uncomfortable with that I will understand and not push the point."
Cain pulled away, wandering around the room as he thought. He thought this deal was a good thing for Kirin though. "Well...it might be awkward, but if you want me to be a part of the marriage, I will. I guess your marriage is going to work out the way you want it to after all," he mused. He sat down in a chair, still feeling tired.
"It would seem that way." He said with a smile. He just watched Cain move around the room. He could spend all his free time watching him. "So what's on your mind?" He asked after a moment.
"Eh?" Cain asked, looking over at Kirin. Indeed, what as on his mind? His thoughts weren't so clear, even to him. "I'm not really thinking much. Just...tired. Really, I'm just thinking that I'm happy for you and what seems like a favorable marriage...but also sad that you will be marrying another person. I didn't think I would care so much though."
"You know I wouldn't if I didn't have to. Some times I wish I could just quit being king." He said with a soft sad smile. He went and put his arms around Cain. "I would much rather travel with you."
Cain sighed without moving away from Kirin's touch. He was being awful touchy now though wasn't he. Honestly, it was a bit stiffling, but he didn't say anything or show it on his face. "Yes, you've said before. But it's not something that can be changed. Even if traveling with you would be wonderful, it's not like this is a bad life either."
"True." He said with a smile stepping back a bit. He fell silent for a moment. Then he curses under his breath. "I just remembered that I have to go and review the troops. Would you care to join me?"
Cain was glad when Kirin suggested that they do something and he was actually amused to hear Kirin curse. He was pretty sure it was the first time he'd heard it. "Sure. I'll come along. Anything to give me something to do!" he exclaimed. It beat being bored or sitting here in this kind of domestic scene, though he had no idea if he'd enjoy watching Kirin inspect the troops. He rolled to his feet though and gave a cat-like stretch. "Are we going now?"
"if I don't want to be late." He said with a smile. He turned and started towards the door.
Cain nodded and followed behind Kirin. "It would be a shame to be late. But will this thing take long?" he asked. Although it didn't matter to him. He just wanted to know.
"It doesn't usually take long. I basically just watch them going through their paces. Why?" He asked as they head out to the training grounds. Kirin stretched his wings as they walk. He longed to be up in the air.
Cain nervously eyed Kirin's wings, but said nothing about them. "Oh, I was just looking for something to say. Seemed like a good thing to ask. I don't mind how long it takes. I'm just bored after all. There's nothing to do here," he said with a shrug of one shoulder.
"Castle life must be boring compared to your former life of travel." He said with a small smile. "I was thinking of doing a bit of traveling. If you are interested in going with me." He said as the arrived at the fields.
"It is really. I try not to be bored because I like staying with you, but it just is that way," Cain said. He glanced over at Kirin, curious. "But I thought you said that you couldn't travel because of your condition..." Cain glanced around at the fields, not sure of what sight he would be seeing.
The soldiers were on the field at the moment going through drills.
"Oh I can travel, my condition makes it a little harder but I can." He said as he watched the troops doing their drills. Soon the troops have transformed and take to doing drills in the sky. |
Cain nodded his head as Kirin cleared up the misunderstanding. "That's good then. It would be nice to travel with you sometime when the situation allows it," he said quietly. He stayed close to Kirin as they approached the field. He didn't want to admit that he still a bit scared and bothered to see those transformed into their full dragon form, flying in the sky. "I still can't get used to the idea of flight."
"I remember when I was a child I couldn't wait till my wings came in and I would learn how to fly." Kirin said with a small smile. "Though for one who had not grown up flying I can understand it might be hard to get used to." He took Cain's had and just held it as he watched his troops practice.
Cain didn't notice when Kirin reached for his hand. He was too busy thinking and watching the troops fly even if he didn't want to watch. He couldn't keep his eyes away. "Wings came in? You don't start out flying then?" he asked. He was happy for the distraction of conversation as well as a chance to learn more about Kirin's people.
"No, dragons aren't born with their wings." He said with a smile. "It is always a big day in a young dragons life when they get their wings. Though there are some whom never get them." He said his voice getting sad. "Though that doesn't happen very often."
How strange it must be to be born without wings, and then one day grown them. There was no transformation as big as this in a human's life. He figured, it must be a scary day to grow something new, but also unbelievably fascinating. "How interesting. I'm glad to learn things like this about dragons. I feel like I should know as much as possible about you," he said and a quick smile.
