"Oh, I'm very sure he or she will," Sword assured as he nuzzled her ear again. Then he leaned his head back, speaking in an authority soaked tone to his men. "Call on one of the sewer mongers, let them play distraction for the companion, or companions, of the witch tonight. Someone else follow the witch around. Though if they try to leave the city before nightfall, then attack as soon as possible and make sure I catch word soon."

As his men scattered, his attention shifted back to Kit and his warm lips returned to just below her ear, nuzzling and nipping. "My name," he demanded softly.

Kit shuddered as she whimpered low in her throat.. "Royce.." she murmured softly in return.. tipping her head to give him room to work. pulse speeding up to pound in her head.. even as every nerve in her body became hyper aware of every move and shift of his body. Kit had Fire red hair that fell down her back in lose tight curls, making it a thick mas of coper, red and a lighter orange-ish red color. her hair literally looking like flames. her eyes where a cat green with a slitted pupil. and even in human form she had faint 'fangs' upper and lower. dainty and smaller to be sure in this form.

"Ah, that's my little kitten," he murmured with a masculine, graveled purr all his own. What he was going to spend the next few hours doing to her was distinctly un-witch-ly considering she was his 'familiar'. But it was this form of relationship perversion that made them so well matched.

***The Rex Tavern***

Vania was curled up on Ven's boots, content and full, belly rounded from feasting on clam slices and a bowl of milk. She was contented, her tail flicking slowly back and forth, one ear perked up and twitching as she listened to the dwarf and the witch speak from the other side of the table above her.

Steingir downed another mug of ale before burping loudly. While it wasn't proper to most people, belches were considered compliments to the chef or brewer, for their food or ale, in dwarven customs. He wiped his mouth before smiling."If you're looking for a place to stay, I can suggest something. There's a nice forest, use to be home to my cousin before a rain storm flooded his mines. The mines are now at the bottom of a lake, the lake itself is beautiful. Like thousands of sparkly gems glistening atop the water. I have an old home on its shore that I don't use anymore."

Ven flicked his eyes towards the other. he didn't much want to think of how cluttered a dwarfs home might be. 'i am seriously missing my teacher's cave..' his hand twitched as the thought to call and update her on his progress rose but really the only progress he'd made was he was in a different country. and oh yeah. had a water cat as a familiar. well that might entice her.. maybe..

"Give me a bit to think about that." he muttered. eyes flicking down to his Familiar. a shiver went down his spine and he frowned, twisting to glance around. he felt like someone was watching him but really no one was. 'oh great. now I'm getting paranoid.. just great..' the sarcasm lacing that thought was so thick one could of cut it with a butter knife and spread it on some toast.

"It's empty."Steingir replied."Like I said, I haven't used it in a long time and I don't leave my stuff where I can't get to it in an emergency."The dwarf said with a smile."I'll give it to you, should you decide you want. Otherwise I'll just demolish it."

The pair spying on the witch and the dwarf were sitting in a distant corner. They were nursing goblets of could be any liquid of their choice. They were unassuming and did not require direct vision to watch a person. Their eyes had been magically enhanced by back-alley healers to give them an edge. They could focus on one another, speak, and still watch the pair. And the water-cat beneath the table.
They were pale, one was dark haired and the other blonde, and both were dark eyed.

Vania's ear perked again and twitched toward the two as they spoke. Their language was nothing particularly important, but the small tensions in their voices were what drew her attention. She rolled to sit up and planted herself between Ven's shoes, giving a low, soft mew as a warning. Just to get his attention but not speaking to him mentally just yet. She was unsure if the two were actually a threat or not.

Ven forced himself to keep talking to the dwarf, even as he flicked his attention further about the inn they where in. his eyes flicked towards the direction Vania's eyes where in on instinct. and he mentally frowned. 'who the hell is that..' he thought.. soemthign wans't right.. it was int he air but he couldn't find the source. finally he spoke softly tot he dwarf. "Don't .. mention where your home is again..we might end up with company there otherwise."

Steingir frowned, his eyes soon following the direction of the other's before going back to Ven's."Aye."He muttered as he downed another mug of ale."Perhaps it is time for us to retire for the night?"He asked, bringing his full attention back to his travelling companion.

Stick together, Vania warned Ven in a light tone. I am going to do a little exploratory work. Try not to get into too much trouble without me nearby. And remember your basic defensive spells. Attacking is nice, but I would rather you can save yourself from a direct hit than rush into something foolishly. The cat stood up and with a flick of her tail vanished among the legs of tables and other customers for now.

Ven.. wanted to scream, why the hell would Vania leave him alone with this annoying fucking Dwarf? 'rude, obnoxious..and no manners what so ever. yeah. this is hell. i should of failed that damn test i really should of." to say he wished he could go back in time and get things wrong.. damn straight. anything to escape this. sure he knew a water cat was a very high honor.. but having to deal with the dwarf.. most definitely made it an honor he was damn tempted to do without.

The dwarf made his way upstairs to the room that he would share with Ven and Vania. Once there, he removed his armor until he was wearing his black riding pants and a pair of black boots. He had assumed that Ven would follow him, but when the other didn't, he simply shrugged it off. He was sure he would hear Ven should the other need assistance, so for the time being he relaxed with a pipe while keeping an eye out for anything suspicious. After all, there was nothing saying that whoever was following them wouldn't come after him specifically.

Ven stared after the Dwarf in sheer SHOCK at his stupidity. oh yes, lets break up the team. sure lets go on up toa room that's EMPTY of witnesses. where a dart tot he neck with a strong poison would be able to kill you off without even trying. because watching people who where fallowing you was so stupid. Shaking his head Ven took a sip of his water and mentally went over the mental notes of what NOT to do he'd formed. simply by watchign the idiotic dwarf he'd ended up companioning with.

The crack of the glass in the window was soft, nothing that would carry beyond that room. The dart left a pin-hole in the expensive glass. It was thinner than a needle but stronger than the best steel in any smith's shop. It embedded itself into the dwarf's neck, in his right pulse. The poison was swift and the needle sunk so deeply it vanished into his flesh. As his heart seized there was no proof of his death being anything but strange. Only one who knew poisons would be able to really guess what happened.

Down below, people filtered in and out of the tavern around Ven. So far, there was no sign of Vania. And that was the unsettling part, because he could not even feel her now. Their bond was new, she could shut him out completely if she wished. The two who were watching him stood up at last and went toward the exit, talking about religious scriptures of all things. A seriously good cover for those who were up to no good. But it did not feel like the danger was any lesser. Night began to roll in and his options were growing thin about what to do as the crowd shrank. Soon, he would either have to go up to his room or leave.

Ven swallowed hard. he had choices, then giving a short huff he shoved himself to his feet and headed for the stairs. He wanted to fallow but Vania had said to stay together. climbing the stairs of the inn he walked down the hall to their room. and paused frowning. 'where's the heart beat?' he thought. unease going through him. there should be a heart beat in their room.. the dwarf had gone up the stairs..

"Steingir..?" his voice was soft, uncertain as he reached out and pushed open the door to their room and stepped in. he came to a dead stop as he caught Steingir's scent.. but something was wrong. 'Damn it.. I knew the idiot shouldn't of run off..' he thought as he stared at the dwarf's body. His own heart rate picking up speed to a panicked thudding in his own ears.. dimly he realized someone was screaming and that someone was him.. then again he was staring. at a dead. body. one he'd known, even if he'd disliked the dwarf.. it took a few hours to get things straightened out. but the healer that looked the dwarf over declared it a heart attack. Ven knew better. someone had killed the dwarf. 'fuck.. That means I'm alone.. ' and a submissive on their own. was just asking for trouble.

Vania returned to him during that time, settling over his shoulder. While the authorities tried to be soothing, it would do no good for him. But Vania had better lucky. It will be alright, Ven. It is hard when people we know die, whether we were close to them or not. It's a disturbing thing knowing also that these people are here for you. Of that, I am sure. He was just a casualty. I hope you are ready, Ven. Because you are about to go to war for your own sake.

Ven shook his head wanting to deny this. 'WHY me.. why him.. all I want to do is become a witch. I'm not on some great adventure.. i'm just trying to learn..' his mental voice was high, laced with fear and agitation. but then who could blame him. someone was out to kill him. and because the dwarf had agreed to companion him.. he was now dead. his death. in a sense was Ven's fault. it was not a comfortable thought. Taking a deep breath he watched as the dwarf's body was taken out.. surprised it was done so in the dwarven tradition. with the mans weapons at his side, sword and shield lay on his chest. a show that he was a warrior. it was a rather kind move on the authorities part.

Once he was finally alone again, he curled up on his bed, in the corner of the room out of sight of the window and well in sight of the door, of which he kept a wary eye on. tugging Vania down into his lap he trailed his hand along her back. "Why are they after me? I'm just some low level witch.. one who hasn't even had a chance to memorize his books yet.."

I don't know, little witchling. I was out searching when you were waiting for me in the tavern. I found a few scents I dislike. Sewer mongers to be specific. They are a folk that live beneath some cities, in sewers. If the city is lucky, or in this case unlucky, enough to have sewers. They're fast, have night vision and are vicious. It's said they replace their real teeth with sharpened animal teeth. Not comforting. Not in the least.

They come above ground only when paid a hefty price to hunt something, or someone. Or, it means a personal vendetta. Now, I'm fairly certain you have not angered anyone into a vendetta as of yet. She curled up against him, nuzzling her head beneath his chin, her silken fur comforting.

Ven stared out into space as he let his mind wander. 'The spy's where a distraction..had I fallowed them instead of come up to check on the dwarf.. i have no doubt I wouldn't of lived..' Shifting his body slightly he let his eyes close, trying to ease into a light sleep. the type of sleep he'd had to do on a night when he thought the sand witch had pushed herself to far, and wanted to be prepared in case she called for him.

Vania let herself doze, lightly at least. It was in the heart of the night, a time where the stars began to plot out and the moon hung low but no real morning light had risen yet, when the faint scrap of the bedroom door lock began to filter through the room. It was picked and slowly the handle turned before the door began to slide open in silence. Vania's eye snapped open, a single shinning in facing away from the door. Her tail flicked once to brush Ven's jaw.

They're here.

Ven's body shifted slightly as if still asleep as his hand shifted to his hip where he had a sword. I've never killed anything before.. the most i think I'll be able to do is hurt them.. he warned. but he'd defend himself and Vania if he had to. he refused to just roll over and die thank you very much.

It would be wise not to kill our intruder just yet. We might want to question them. The more we learn, the better. She shifted slowly in the shadows. She slipped off the bed and padded silently across the floor as the figure moved to the bed. She slunk around behind the figure and when he was close to the bed, she darted at him, sinking claws into the tendon at the back of one foot. The man cursed and his foot jerked up. She let him go and trusted that Ven could use the distraction to attack.

Ven launched himself at the toher, aiming low and hitting hte man, or women , or hell kid, in the gut to take them down an dplaced a knife agianst their throat. "Don't..Move.." he hissed. waving a hand and sending a small witch ball of light floating int he air to reveal whot he intruder was. "Who are you and what the hella re you doing in my room."*

When the light hit the figure, Vania hissed. Run, she snapped sharply. The thing beneath him had dark, jewel-like eyes and the skin was in fact overlapping layers of small leaves. A creature constructed of magic. And a dangerous thing at that. They were made to be servants...or suicide killers. And the crackling started in the gem eyes told just which this creature was designed to be. A plant one indicated poisoned gas about to be released. A human hand caught Ven's shoulder and yanked him hard, "Now!" Vania's human voice hissed as she shoved him toward the door.

Ven only needed to be told twice then he took off running. his eyes locking on the door as he focused solely on that. he'd found when he was focused on running..he formed a sort of thin barrier that kept people from grabbing him. the problem? he had to be solely focused on RUNNING and not paying attention to those around him. not exactly a safe combination.. and it was damn hard to do. 'remember.. nothing.. don't focus on anything..' he darted out the door and tore down the hall, racing down the steps at a speed that was going to leave him doubled over in agony later.
