He had nodded slightly as Calan reaffirmed what he had said. Anything in the cave. Those hands moved to his shoulders, and Lila thought he might melt at the touch. It felt so nice. That odd purring sound of his only seemed to increase a bit as the dragon seemed to relax more beneath those gentle hands. It felt so nice that Lila was having a bit of trouble concentrating on what Calan was saying.
When the human's lips were so close to his ear though, it made a delightful shiver run down his spine. It made him eager to hear what Calan would choose, something sparkly maybe, or something pretty. When Calan said he choose him, Lila's body tensed, or tried to. It was rather hard to tense up with those hands working out all the tenseness. He bit his bottom lip, squirming the slightest bit. His eyes fully opened and he turned his head to stare at Calan, with a slightly wary look. There was a bit of solemn resignation in his eyes. Dragons rarely ever went back on their word, and he had said Calan could pick anything in the cave and Lila was most certainly in the cave. "That isn't fair, Calan." There was a slight pout, a light sigh. His odd purring had somewhat stopped. Though it seemed Lila had walked right into a trap that he had laid for himself. He huffed lightly. "Fine then. I did say anything in the cave, and I can't go back on my word. Please take very good care of me, Calan." His eyes still held that hint of wariness in them, perhaps even a hint of defeat. Fine, Calan could have him, but that didn't mean he would let the human tame him or ride on his back at all or take him flying once that wing healed. If it healed. It probably would heal. |
He hadn't thought it would work. Calan's hands stilled for a moment. Then he started the massage again. "Don't look at me like that." His lips were close. He leaned in just a bit more and pressed them against the dragon's cheek. Calan shivered. He couldn't believe what he was thinking! Seeing Lila in human form ... It had made him want to ... He shook his head, and slid away with a sigh. No. That would never happen. Never.
"I'll take care of you to the utmost of my ability, for as long as I live. And then you'll be free." Calan smiled. "And you'll probably stay that way after all of this. So tell me ... what can I do for you? To make you happy? I could find ways to get treasure for your hoard, or ... anything really." He could talk to the dragon riders, to find out about the creams they used to make their dragons more supple, more comfortable with their scales. Healthy, strong. Maybe they would help teach Lila, if he allowed one of them to visit his cave. |
Lila wriggled a bit, and almost giggled when Calan kissed his cheek, that wary look had faded, but he did still watch Calan. "I suppose..it's alright, Calan, if you're the one that owns me. You seem nice enough, for a human. So far." When Calan moved back with that sigh, Lila began to get to his feet. He stretched a bit, raising his arms high above his head and arcing his back slightly, then those arms dropped to his sides and he turned to face Calan.
Though, now that he was claimed by a human, that meant villagers couldn't hunt him down or throw spears at him now, right? Oh, but they didn't know he belonged to Calan yet. So, what could Calan do to make him happy? Well, he could get the humans to not throw spears at Lila anymore. Though wasn't that odd? Shouldn't Lila be the one doing the things that made Calan happy, since Calan owned him now? "I don't know, Calan...maybe tell the other humans to stop throwing spears at me?" He had pouted, and then he was smiling a bit. "But I'm the pet, shouldn't I be asking what I can do to make my Calan happy?" Though he seemed to be taking this rather well, Lila wasn't entirely pleased with how things had turned out. Oh well, he would be free at the end of Calan's life, and what was the lifetime of a human but merely the blink of an eye to a dragon. |
His Calan? The young man smiled, he grinned happily. The dragon had already said the magic words. "I don't know about telling them not to throw spears. I could try." Laughing a bit, he let himself fall against the treasure. "Take care of yourself. " He glanced at Lila. "Never put me in a cage again, and come huddle close to me?" He had been a tamer of animals. He didn't want to be one anymore, had been nothing more then a pet himself until he escaped. But that had been a while ago, a lifetime ago.
Calan closed his eyes. Hadn't he just done the same to Lila? "Be happy." That was something that had to happen. He wriggled on the bed of gold and jewels. It was far more comfortable then he thought. |
"They would listen, Calan, if you told them you were my rider. Dragons belonging to riders are never hunted." There was an odd tone in his voice, a hint of reluctance in it. Still, Lila was rather determined that Calan would not ride him, never ever. He would never become that tame or domesticated or whatever word humans had for it. He gave a slight shrug when Calan told him to 'take care of himself' Lila did the best he could, but small dragons had trouble with that sometimes.
Lila gave Calan a suddenly sour look. "I already apologized for putting you in the cage, but I promise I wont stick you in it again, Calan." He seemed almost annoyed at having to reassure the human of that, but he understood. Being trapped was a terrible thing really, especially if you were tossed into a cage that you just barely fit in. Still, Lila's expression brightened as he moved towards Calan. He came to rest on the treasure next to the human, snuggling against him almost gingerly. As if a bit uncertain, but he slipped a slender arm around that human and snuggled against him. "Calan, happiness is a fleeting thing, but I am oddly content." |
Calan slid an arm beneath the dragon. It was so strange, how petite Lila was in his human-like form. As a dragon he was so much larger, and more intimidating. As this two legged being Lila was ... adorable, sweet and endearing. The young man tilted his head to nuzzle the dragon's amethyst hair. There was a scent clinging to the dragon, a wild sea scent.
"I wouldn't mind telling them that." He lifted a hand to play with the dragon's long locks. "Content? And why is that odd?" A dragon was cuddling up against him as if he actually mattered to them. Calan's heart beat fast against his chest, like waves crashing consistently against the shore. He forced himself to breathe steadily. It was a dream, it had to be. |
That odd content purring was emitting from the dragon, a soft sound, much like a cat's, as he cuddled up against the human. "Why wouldn't it be odd, Calan, being content all curled up with a human?" The way he said that, as if it should have been obvious to Calan why the contentment was odd. "Also, Calan, you cheated when I said I'd give you anything in my cave. You weren't supposed to pick me, but I'm not mad for some reason. A little annoyed, but oddly not angry. I should be angry at you, for that." It was said with a pout, but Lila nuzzled gently against the human.
"But honestly, Calan, what are you going to do with me, now that you own me?" They couldn't snuggle forever in his cave, even if the idea wasn't an entirely bad one. He was sure that other humans didn't cuddle with their dragons like this. "Calan, what do tamers usually do with their pets?" He was rather curious, sure he had seen humans riding other dragons about, high in the sky or chasing dangerous other beasts away from villages, but other than that, what did humans do to their dragons. How did they tame them so? Did they beat on them, or threaten them in some way? Lila really didn't know. "But don't you dare go around thinking I'm so tame. I'm still wild, Calan!" That last bit was added with a hint of defiance in his voice, and yet he still nuzzled and purred softly against his human. It felt good, being held, and the way Calan moved those fingers through Lila's hair. He could almost get used to such gentle treatment. |
He laughed. "You should take it as a compliment, a sign of just how beautiful and amazing I think you are." Calan lowered his hand, shifted it to rub circles across the dragon's shoulder. Dragons were such a different species from humans. Most never considered cuddling with them, no matter what kind of abilities the dragon had.
Riders never cuddled with their shape shifted partners. It was unheard of. It was never even spoken of. What did he want of his dragon? "With regular pets? Take care of them. Show them off. Teach them new things. But you aren't a pet, Lila. And I may have said I wanted you... but what I want of you is not anything anyone would agree with." He pulled the dragon close. Let out a long breath. |
He seemed to purr a little louder when Calan began rubbing circles across his shoulder and said the words 'beautiful' and 'amazing'. Lila really did enjoy being praised and complimented and showered with affection, probably more so than any other dragon. He was quiet, except for that purring as Calan spoke, he did wonder though if this human would parade him around and show him off. Lila didn't think that would be a good idea, as a dragon he wasn't much to be proud of. Dragon riders might laugh at Calan for having such a weak and feminine looking dragon. Though the rest of what Calan said interrupted Lila's thoughts.
"Oh, but aren't I your pet now, Calan?" It was spoken with simple curiosity, but he was more curious about what Calan had said after that. "Calan, what do you want of me, that no one would agree with?" Lila couldn't think of anything like that, so he was very curious and perhaps a little confused or maybe more uncertain than confused. Though he wasn't sure why he should be uncertain, and Calan had pulled him closer. Lila's arm around the human tightened a bit, but he held to Calan gently. Tightly but gently. |
"You are." Calan repeated himself. "You are mine. But I don't want a pet." His heart thumped. The sound of it filled his ears. The feel of the dragon's arms around him anchored him, even if he wanted to run away. To speak his thoughts so soon? He didn't know if he could do it. Then again, Calan knew that keeping his intentions from Lila would only make things worse.
The young man's hold tightened around the purple clad dragon. "I want a mate." That hadn't been his original intent. It hadn't! But then things had changed, and so quickly! It had been instant, that change. |
Calan didn't want a pet? That's all dragons were to their riders though, just glorified horses that could fly and breath fire. Nothing more and nothing less. When his hold tightened, Lila blinked, tilting his head to stare at Calan's face. Those next words had Lila blinking and wondering if he was hearing things. Then his brow furrowed, and he was pulling away from the human. Pulling away and going to stand some distance from Calan.
No one had ever wanted Lila for a mate, but now this human did? Lila had been glad earlier that Calan wasn't a dragon, now he wished that the human was a dragon. A dragon that would want him. Lila had gone through two mating seasons of rejection, and next season was soon approaching. The middle of spring, that was when the dragons instinct to find a partner was at it's height. Those eyes roamed over Calan for a moment. The man was handsome, for a human, surely he wouldn't have problems finding a suitable human mate. "Calan, I'm a dragon." Lila was very serious, almost as serious as when Calan had first approached him. Serious but less apprehensive. "Calan, you are human. We can't do that thing. We can't be mates." It was forbidden, wasn't it? A human mating with an animal, and an animal mating with a human. Even though Lila had a human form, it was still no different, was it? It made him wonder though. "Would you still want me for a mate, Calan, if I didn't have a form close to human?" His right hand had clenched into a fist, he almost wanted to scream at the human to get out. To tease him like that, it was cruel. Dangling such a prize in front of his eyes when they both knew that it wasn't possible. Still, Lila was not so desperate for a mate so to just blindly jump the human...maybe. There was still hope that a nice dragon would take him, and judging by Calan's appearance there should have been people fighting for him. Though humans were odd, and Lila wasn't sure of their mating rituals or what they looked for in a mate. |
Calan sat up upon his chair of gold. The metal kept glinting distractingly. Not enough to tear the man's attention away from the dragon entirely. He knew that what he'd said was taboo. Pursing his lips, he considered every side of it, of what he felt and why. There were plenty of people who were just that, people, who had approached him before. He'd never felt like they might have needed him, or truly wanted him. There had never been any hint of a challenge, either.
But would the thought have ever crossed his mind if Lila hadn't shown himself able to transform into a human-like form? "I don't know the answer to that. How could I? That isn't how things stand." The young man let out a long breath, and tugged at his amber hair. "And I did say, earlier, that what I wanted was nothing anyone would agree with. I was including you in that too, Lila." He looked up at the feminine dragon. |
"Well you better find an answer to that, right now, Calan!" There it was, that fury of a dragon. Tendrils of smoke curled up from his nostrils, but even if he were able to breath fire, he certainly wouldn't be able to do it in this human like form. His wings twitched, the injured one causing him to grimace lightly, but he seemed to otherwise ignore it. He wanted to take his true form, but he couldn't, not with such an injury, the change would stretch it. Make it worse and it was already slowly knitting back together. Slowly but so much faster than a human would heal, if humans had wings. It wouldn't be fully healed for a while though, another day most likely.
There was no point in mating with this human if the man didn't want him as such even in his true form. How could he say this thing, and then deny a part of Lila, the most important part, the truest part of him? Even so, mating with a human in his true form would probably destroy the poor man, and was something more akin to bestiality anyway, and that was definitely a no no. Wasn't it? "You'd never have seen this form, if I hadn't been in such a hurry to get away from that spearman. Dragon's don't so easily reveal such secrets to humans, and not all dragons can even do this." Anger and fear laced his voice, a hint of hope and trepidation. "Dragons mate in their true form, anyway. Such a thing would kill a human, I'm far to big, even as small as I am compared to the rest of my kin." Lila grit his teeth a bit, but it felt good, even as wrong as it was, to know that at least someone wanted him. "Besides, why should I mate with a human, even if such a thing weren't so wrong? I have my pick of strong, powerful dragons. Brimstone and fury, why would I pick something as weak and squishy as a human?" Was he being to harsh? Perhaps, but he was more afraid than angry. It was easy to hide it behind the angry. He wasn't sure when it happened, but he had stopped saying Calan's name in every sentence. It wasn't true though, he had no pick of dragons. They would turn him away, as they often did. Laugh and tease him. He was already shunned by them for being so feminine, what would it matter if they shunned him for mating a human? There would be no offspring though, leaving it up to his brothers and sisters to carry on his families line of dragons. Perhaps that was best. No chance of the eggs hatching into feminine boys. It was true though, that when male dragons mated with other males, their body could change to produce offspring. It was a reptilian thing, a survival of the species type thing. Though Lila thought it was an ability more suited to the amphibious dragons, as the change came far easier to them than their reptilian cousins. |
Calan leaped to his feet. "I don't remember asking you to choose me!" He shook his head hard. Lila's smoking and seething expression only helped drive home the fact that despite the echoes of humanity in him, he was definitely other. Lila had fascinated him from the first moment he'd seen him. That was true, truer perhaps then Calan had even realized.
And I don't remember asking you to mate me with me either. I said I wanted a mate. I know how wrong it is to even consider ..." He waved his arms around with a loud sigh, an angry grunt as he motioned between the two of them. "And how impossible. If the only form you had ever shown me was your true one, my feelings would probably have grown the same way they have now, after seeing this other side of you. But I wouldn't have said anything." Calan looked away. "It'd have been better if I'd kept this to myself." He felt a pang in his chest. Regret. Despite the fact that he'd known it was a horrible idea, he had still spoken his thoughts aloud for the dragon to hear. He half expected Lila to throw him out of the cave, to make him promise never to return, after the what had been said. "I didn't mean any insult," said Calan bitterly. |
Lila seemed to calm almost immediately, well almost immediately after Calan had said that the feelings would probably have been the same even if Lila had never shown his human like form. Someone to accept all of him. But this was wrong, so very wrong. His fist unclenched and for a moment he looked almost thoughtful. His voice was quiet, far more serious than earlier, if that was even possible. "Have you fallen in love with me, or is this pure infatuation?" He kept his tone neutral, but inside of him was a great need to know the truth. Even if this was wrong, such a thing still mattered.
"I'm not some toy to be played with. My emotions, my feelings, and my heart. They can be manipulated and broken as easily as a human's, so don't play cruel games with me, human." That neutral tone still filled his voice, but there was something in his eyes. He wouldn't play games with Calan's heart. "I'm not in love with you, in fact, I've only just gotten comfortable with you, I've only just gotten used to your presence and scent, your gentle touches. I've only just decided we were friends, even though you tricked me into being your dragon. And now this talk of taboo things. What would you have me do?" It was so hard to keep his tone so neutral but he seemed to be managing it. The dragon mating season was soon to approach, a few weeks more. Perhaps if Calan had waited until then to mention such a thing, Lila would have been more open to it. Vulnerability and rejection could do strange things to a creature. Right now, there was still hope of a dragon, even if this human also fascinated him. They had known each other for a day, there had been no dances in the air. No connecting of their soul and heart, had there been? Could a dragon even connect with a human in such a way? That connection was essential for finding a soul mate, and Lila had yet to find his. "Everyone would hate us, if we did such a thing." It was a thought spoken aloud, in reference to his thoughts of connecting heart and soul, but Calan would most likely assume he meant mating with a human in general. |
Calan shifted uncomfortably. There was no way he knew how to answer the question. He feared even saying that, after how the dragon had reacted to his words earlier. His parents had said more then once his tendency to speak his mind would get Calan into trouble someday. The young man hadn't expected that someday to be so soon. "Lila, for this once accept the fact that I don't know. As you've said, it's early in our knowing each other. I shouldn't have opened my mouth about it, and I'm sorry about that. I should have kept it to myself." Calan forced his lips shut and closed his eyes tight. He needed to think clearly without the sight of Lila constantly there, for him to feel fascinated with.
Slowly, he opened green eyes to look everywhere but at the dragon. "I expect you to treat me as you wish. Nothing more, and nothing less then that. I would like it if you treated me as a friend, but I know that's entirely up to you." Could he go back on his choice? The moment when he'd chosen Lila, instead of something from the dragon's hoard ... Could he take that back so the dragon was entirely free? Calan glanced at all the gold, the treasures laid out upon the cavern floor. |
Lila crossed his arms across his chest and turned his head so he was looking at the cave entrance, instead of at Calan. "I should eat you." He sounded far more annoyed than angry now. He seemed so much calmer though, it was true, his moods switched far to easily. In fact, Lila looked purely annoyed. "Dragon mating season is only a few weeks away, did you know that?" Now he was looking at Calan again. Golden eyes staring into him. "It's not some flimsy thing we do, we dance in the air, and our hearts reach out to connect with our soul mate. We can't choose our mates on a whim." The annoyance was draining out of him.
"I've been two seasons without connecting to anyone. It's rare, almost all dragons find their partner during their first season. If they don't, they find them during the second. There isn't a dragon alive that's gone through three mating seasons without finding their soul mate. At first I was glad you weren't a dragon, but now I almost wish you were." These were things that were supposed to be a secret. Lila wasn't supposed to be telling these kinds of things to a human. "Though if you were a dragon, you wouldn't like me. I'm to small, not strong enough, I can't even breath fire. I'm not optimal mate material, but that doesn't matter. Humans think we just go out and pick the biggest, strongest dragon we find to be our lovers, but that isn't true, it's more complicated than that. Still, being the way I am, and the way dragon's think, it would be difficult if not outright impossible to find one that can accept me for the way I am. That's what a soul mate does, it accepts you for whatever you are. Both forms, sleek girly body or large muscle body. But no dragon could ever accept me for what I am." He was frowning deeply. "My kin shun me, refuse to accept me. So I hide in my cave, just the right size for me and too small for any of them to come bother me. Too close to a human village for any of them to fly near for fear of slayers. I shouldn't be telling you any of this, but you are my friend, I suppose." He called Calan his friend, but he was being less friendly with the human than much earlier. "It would probably be impossible for you and I to become mates even if such a thing weren't so wrong. True you seem to accept me, but I am a dragon and you are a human, any one of my kind would be fascinating for you, I doubt our hearts could ever connect on such a level." Oh, but it had been nice. To feel wanted by another. |
The human stared at the dragon. He found it impossible not to, certainly it was so after hearing such an outpouring of thoughts and feelings. It explained so much. Why Lila had said he was glad Calan wasn't a dragon, then why he'd wished the opposite were true. There were no other dragons near the human village, it was true. Calan had always thought it was because of humanity's presence alone, but it was enlightening to know that the terrain was as much to blame as anything else. But his mind kept swerving back to Lila's loneliness. If not for that, the dragon would surely have killed Calan before ever talking to him.
He stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Lila, even though Calan was nearly sure the dragon wouldn't want such contact. "You'll find someone perfect for you, Lila. I'm certain. Probably a mate that all the others will envy." He tried to think of reasons why the mate in question hadn't shown scale nor snout during any of the previous mating seasons. "Your mate might not have been born yet. Or maybe whoever it is ... lives in a different area, or simple didn't attend the mating? It's possible, isn't it?" Calan stepped away. He was smiling, but on the inside his heart twinged painfully. Just a twinge. That was all. He squashed it down mercilessly and replaced it with concern for Lila. |
He had tensed when Calan approached him, and wrapped those arms around him. But Lila was shaking his head at most of what the human said. "Perhaps things are so simple for a human and different. You can pick and choose who you mate with on a whim. A dragon's mate would have been there for the second mating season if it hadn't been born yet, and it would have come to me. We all gather in a special place. A valley between two mountains that you can only get to by flying. All mateable dragons go there, it's instinct and it's not to far from my cave." He was still frowning, and he let Calan pull away from him.
"Calan, I have no mate. Even if they didn't come, when I send my heart out searching, as long as they send their own out to search our hearts would meet. Our souls would sing and instinct would drive us to one another. Though I've always felt that my mate was nearby. I can't tell how nearby, yet my searching was never answered. Perhaps they simply do not know how to send their heart out to search or answer a call, but it is instinct in all of us. Even I can't mess that up, and I"m terrible at being a dragon." Lila moved towards him. His hands reaching out and grabbing Calan's wrists. "Calan, even if such a thing weren't so wrong. If we did mate, I would have to leave you once I found my soul mate. Would you endure such pain? To be used as a dragon's harlot to ease his own loneliness? Even if a union between human and beast wasn't so wrong, I would not be able to put my friend through such pain." It seemed Lila was done being angry and annoyed. Now he was merely being thoughtful. Though the thought that a human could possibly be his soul mate never entered his mind. Why should that kind of thought come to him? Humans and animals didn't mate with each other. |
Calan stiffened. He stared down at the dragon's hands. There was no way he would believe that Lila had no mate. None at all. "Maybe your mate can't answer. Just like you're smaller in size then most dragons, maybe your mate doesn't have that instinctive knowledge. That might be precisely why this dragon is your mate, because you can both accept each other far easier then any others ever could, the ones who are seemingly perfect."
The young man shifted his hands to free his wrists. He slid put one of them to Lila's shoulder, and smiled a little. "Yes, I would endure it. As you've said, humans have a much easier time of it. We aren't usually bound to one soul mate. I would survive, and survive with memories to treasure and hold dear while you moved on to find your happiness." |
That thought had never occurred to Lila. What if is mate didn't have that instinctive knowledge. "Then how would I ever find my way to them, if they can't answer the call or call out on their own?" It was clear from his expression that he had never even thought of that before. Though now it just seemed even more impossible for him to find his mate. When Calan put a hand on his shoulder, Lila reached up and placed his own hand over Calan's. He sighed deeply.
"Humans are so strange when it comes to mates. I wouldn't be able to endure such a thing, how can such frail bodies be so strong of heart?" His hand had dropped from Calan's, a finger reaching out and poking the young man in the ribs, as if to emphasis how soft and squishy humans were. "But Calan, I could not put you through such pain as that. You will just have to be content to ease my loneliness as a friend and not a lover." A bit of that haughtiness had returned to Lila's voice. In the next instant he had thrown both arms around Calan, flinging himself into the human's arms. Nuzzling the man's cheek gently. "If you were a dragon there's a chance we could be mates." Not once had Lila said 'If I were a human'. It was that bit of selfishness in him that prevented him from even mentioning how much easier mating would be for them if he were human instead of Calan being a dragon. "Though I'm not sure I'd like you as much as I already do if you were a dragon." Now he was just teasing, and he continued to nuzzle the other gently. |
The human laughed. He had to. Lila was such a changeable thing. Mood shifting as easily as the winds ... The dragon made it hard to follow his train of thought sometimes. And yet Calan kept wanting to try and read that mind. To understand what pushed Lila to act as he did.
He wrapped his arms around Lila, pulling him close and holding him tight. "Oh Lila, if I were a dragon ... I wish I were. You make me wish I was." Then things would be simple, cut and dry. Either they were mates, or they weren't. There would be no question of impossibility. Of things that just couldn't happen. He tilted his head to brush his lips against the dragon's cheek. |
There was a question, in the back of Lila's mind. One he had never really thought of or considered before. "Calan, if you were a dragon we could dance on the wind together. I know you'd like it." He was making that purring sound of contentment, and wondering if perhaps, Calan knew the answer to the question that was suddenly at the fore of his thoughts. When the human's lips brushed his cheek he tilted his head a bit to look at Calan's face.
"Calan, suddenly I'm wondering. If it's so wrong for dragons and humans to mate, why would a dragon have a human like form? Perhaps for disguise, but you can clearly tell I'm still a dragon. So what purpose does this form really serve? It's fully functional in all aspects, as much a part of me as my true form. Two halves of a whole." His tone, it was rather ponderous, and his brow had furrowed adorably in thought. Why had no one questioned it before? |
"I would like that very much." The amber haired man tilted his head just so, and his eyes lowered to meet Lila's. The question was a hard one. Lila seemed to be full of them.. Ideas and questions that Calan didn't know how to answer. He pulled the dragon even closer, as if he could divine the reason behind the shape Lila wore just from that.
It just confused him more. "I don't know, Lila. Maybe to hide more easily in tight spots, where humans wouldn't think to look." He shook his head, shivered after looking outside. "It's getting late." |
Calan had pulled Lila closer, and his purring had increased a bit. The dragon returned to contently nuzzling his human. They weren't mates, and other dragons didn't cuddle up to their humans, but nothing felt odd about cuddling with Calan. There was a hint of wrongness to it, but it felt so nice that it was easy to ignore that hint of a feeling. Still, shouldn't Lila only enjoy cuddling so much with his mate? He pushed those thoughts away. Too many questions and too few answers really.
That purring stopped though, when Calan mentioned it was getting late and he pulled back a bit to look towards the cave entrance, to look at the sky. It was darkening. "What now, Calan? Will you go home? What do dragon tamers and riders do with their dragons when they go home for the night? Do the dragons come with them, or are they locked in a giant dragon stable like a glorified horse? Or can they stay in their own caves to wait for their human to come back?" Surely Calan would know this. Lila didn't know, he didn't associate much with tamed dragons. He saw them now and then, but never actually tried to get close to them. |
