Five minutes late. The doctor was five minutes late and now somehow he was the one nominated to participate in the new test program, 'Project Liaison.' He'd been told they had been calling on people with "unexplained abilities", what ever that meant, to come in and assist doctors all over the world with their medical studies. For months their hospital had not received word of the project until the day Alec's alarm decided to go off late, of course. If this was just some stupid way of telling Alec he needed to show up to work on time, message received.
"C'mon sir, you can't be serious! You know I do better on my own. Remember what happened between me and Calvin?" Alec insisted, holding back a shudder at the memory. He looked pleadingly over to the chief medical officer, who seemed more amused than anything. This is what the hard-headed doctor deserved, right? Alec grimaced at the obvious humor dancing behind his boss' eyes, it suddenly becoming clear to him that this was a battle he wasn't going to win.
"I am sorry Dr. Colbac, but the entire staff has agreed that you are best fitted to take this on," The medical officer began, his amusement levels to the point of making Alec want to storm out and never come back again, "And if anything, what happened between you and Dr. Calvin is even more of a reason for you to be placed in this program. The ability to communicate with those around you is an important part of being a doctor..."
"I'm not in the mood for a lecture-"
"And you won't get one. You can either except the offer I am making you, or find a new hospital to work at," He paused, looking up briefly for a reaction, "If you decide to stay, a file full of the information you need can be found on top of your desk."
It wasn't too long after that Alec found himself staring down at a folder labeled Liaison. As much as he didn't want to participate, he loved his job far too much to lose it over something like this. Besides, how hard could it be? As far as he was concerned, he was always the man in charge.
Project Liaison:
Hello Doctor,
You have been given the great honor of being chosen to take part in a life-changing operation formerly known as Project Liaison. As you may have already been informed, you and many other citizens in the medical field will have the opportunity to work alongside beings you have never been exposed to before. With capabilities science has yet to explain, we have been calling these beings Healers, each of the individuals tested performing things well above human comprehension. We will be using this project as way to further explore the Healers, as we think we have just begun to discover what they are truly capable of.
You will find more information in further papers.
Sincerely,
Doctor Chester Linwell of the Washington Medical Corporation
"Healers? Seriously? They couldn't think of a better name?" Alec whined as he attempted to digest the information that was just thrown at him. This was all crazy talk, Alec was sure of it.
Just great, I get stuck with the psycho girl with crazy-colored hair. The male sighed as he looked over the papers, a description and picture of his future partner being the second page. Were they all like this? His parents had always warned him about people like this, the ones who thought they needed to stand out and be different. Normalcy is good, at least that's what they had always said.
Alec threw the papers down and rubbed his temples as he wondered at what point this girl would come prancing through the door. Please, let this day be over with soon.
