Daylen lifted his head up off the the top of his desk. He had fallen asleep while he was drawing the blueprints to the watering system for Contessa's solarium. Sirus was just poking his shoulder. "Daylen wake up, you will have to get Miss Contessa today." Daylen was too groggy to fully understand what his brother was saying. He was violently shaken as Sirus spoke louder. "Wake up Mr. Grumpy!" Daylen pushed his brother's hands off of him, he was awake now and slightly dizzy from the wake up call his brother just gave him. "Got in trouble for the strippers, didn't you?" Daylen simply asked his brother standing up. He needed more coffee. He took his cup off the desk before heading into the kitchen to make more. Sirus just sadly nodded in reply as he followed. "Yeah... I can't be your chaperone today, you two are on your own." Sirus plainly stated before he placed a rather large smile on his face. After Daylen had set his cup down, Sirus shoved his transporting gloves into his chest that he took from Daylen's study. "Say hi to Carolyn for me." Before Daylen could do anything his twin transported him to Contessa's house. His hair was messy from just getting up, his clothes were slightly dirty from sleeping in his study. It was clear that Daylen had just gotten up and never had the chance to cleaned up. "Sirus..." He softly said rather irritated when he noticed where he was. He had forgotten that his twin could transport people without going himself.
The D' Veen family was just enjoying their breakfast when Daylen showed up. Edward was the first to notice him and raised an eyebrow as he drank some of his water. "Good Morning Daylen. Is everything alright?" he asked curiously. Then everyone looked up to see Daylen. "Daylen you don't look so good." Contessa started and frowned. "Did you get any sleep last night?" she asked curiously before taking another bite of her food. Grace looked at Daylen worriedly as she fed another spoonful of food to Carolyn. He really did look pretty tired and she wondered if he was alright. She noticed Sirus wasn't there and that only made this all the more odd. "I notice Sirus isn't here, is something wrong?" Grace asked with a small frown on her face.
Daylen just sighed lightly. Did he really look that bad? He just looked at his gloves, embarrassed at his appearance. "I fell asleep in my study." He softly spoke. Granted it was kind of obvious by the grease on his vest and a small amount on the side of his face. "Sirus just woke me up, he didn't give me anytime to clean up." He said still embarrassed. He lightly shook his head at Grace's question. "No, he just got into trouble. He won't be here today." He wanted to hurt him for this. First the strippers in his bedroom and then the sudden embarrassment from how he looked after he woke up from sleeping in his study. He wished that he didn't need the gloves to disappear from sight.
"I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can get a better night's sleep tonight." Grace said politely. Edward wasn't surprised when he hear that Sirus had gotten in trouble since he could guess what it was that had gotten him in trouble. "He got into trouble? What did he do this time?" asked Contessa before finishing up her breakfast and using the napkin to carefully wipe her lips. "I agree with mum, I hope you can get a better night's sleep tonight." Contessa said softly as she took the dishes to the sink once everyone was finished eating their breakfast. She was expecting to see Sirus but this was a nice surprise even though she was sure Daylen didn't really appreciate it.
Daylen just softly smile. "Thank you." He replied softly to Grace, he wouldn't bother them with why he wasn't sleeping. It was a terrible event that was coming up, he just knew it. He wasn't sure as to when or who it would be happening to however. Daylen blushed lightly when he heard Contessa's question, he wasn't sure if he should tell her. "One of his pranks just went too far." He hoped that Edward wouldn't get mad for keeping it from her, he was sure that he knew why Sirus wasn't able to be here. Daylen just looked at his gloves as Contessa placed the dishes in the sink. He really felt uncomfortable showing up like this, he wished Sirus had least let him clean up first.
"Ahh I see. Well maybe next time he will think twice before he does something like that again." Contessa said with a smile. Edward nodded as he stood up. "I'm sorry he did that Daylen, I'm pretty sure I know what prank he pulled since I told him it would be best not to do it." he said and shook his head. "Maybe he'll cut back on the pranks for a bit." he said and kissed the girls on the cheeks. "I have to get to work now. I'll be sure to check if I have a day off this week love, that way we can go to that meeting okay?" he said to Grace who nodded. "Sounds lovely dear. Have a good day at work, love you." she said softly and smiled at him as she picked Carolyn up into her arms. "I love you too dear. Have fun Contessa! It was nice seeing you again Daylen, take care of her." Edward said as he headed out the door. "I will dad, bye!" Contessa called after him and sighed softly. Before we go, let me just get something from my room." Contessa said as she quickly ran up the stairs, almost tripping over her own feet.
When she reached her own room, she opened the small drawer and pulled out the pouch with the different seeds inside and closed the drawer as she quickly headed back down and grinned. "I'm hoping to plant these seeds today." she explained to Daylen. "Have fun dear. I'm sure your garden will be a lovely one. Right Carolyn?" Grace asked Carolyn who only laughed in response to the question. "I will mum, I promise I'll be back soon." Contessa said and looked at Daylen. She didn't care that he was messy, it just showed her how much he loved to work. |
Daylen doubted the fact that Sirus would ever learn a lesson from this. He tend to get into trouble a lot, it never seemed to affect him. Daylen just nodded lightly as Edward left for work. As Contessa ran upstairs, he turned slightly towards Grace and little Carolyn. "Sirus asked me to say 'Hi' to little Carolyn." He said softly, he wasn't very comfortable in situations like this, he was sure it showed. When Contessa returned with the small pouch of seeds he softly smiled. He placed on his gloves and turned slightly away from her as he repeated the same actions as the day before. Drawing the circle and expanding it underneath the two. Some symbols were slightly different from the day before however. Once she said her farewell, Daylen snapped his fingers. He had teleported them in her solarium instead of the main entrance way like yesterday. He figured she would like to start planting as soon as she returned to the manor. Slowly he took off the gloves as the energy settled down.
Grace smiled and could tell that Daylen was uncomfortable. "Well she says hi back to him and to you too Daylen." she said kindly and gently tickled Carolyn, making her laugh. Contessa waved to her mother and Carolyn before appearing in the solarium. "Thank-you, I'll plant these right away." she said and knelt down on the ground where she started making small holes and dropped a seed or two in each one. She figured Daylen would take this time to probably get cleaned up or go back to work in his study. She didn't mind that her dress probably had dirt on it, she just hoped that she and Daylen could possibly talk today instead of shying away from each other.
Daylen just nodded to her and excused himself. He left the solarium and went to his room. He just went into his bathroom to washed his face, brushed his hair and changed his vest. Once he was done, Daylen left his room and went into the kitchen to make some coffee. It didn't take long before he returned to the solarium with a cup of coffee and a glass of tea for Contessa. He knelt down by Contessa and held out the glass for her, "I have a little more to do on the plans for the watering system. We could start it today if you want?" He said in his soft manner. He wasn't so uncomfortable around just Contessa, but he was still nervous and shy. Luckily she didn't mind him working, which helped him relax around her more.
Contessa continued to plant the seeds carefully, making sure that they were evenly spaced. When Daylen returned, she smiled at the cup of tea and dusted off her hands before accepting it. "Thank-you, it smells lovely." she said and nodded at his suggestion. "Oh of course! I'll be more than happy to help however I can." she said and then it hit her, that's what he was working on in the study when he fell to sleep. The thought made her frown, and she hoped he could get a better sleep tonight. Something was obviously keeping him up, was it those scary visions Sirus mentioned? And if that was the answer, did the visions always happen or did they happen only certain times?
Daylen just nodded softly in reply before taking a drank of his coffee. He looked at the spots where she just planted some seeds. He wondered what she had planted. "It won't be difficult, I can do all the wiring and mechanics." She pretty much would be helping to put the pieces together and setting the layout how she wanted it to go in her solarium. "I have a blueprint of the solarium. I just need to know how you want the system to be placed before we can actually start making it." He took another drink of his coffee. "I normally don't eat lunch but if you get hungry during the day, you're welcome to use the kitchen anytime want." He told her shyly. He wasn't much of an eater.
Contessa sipped her tea and looked at him as he spoke. "How I want them to be placed?" she repeated. "Are there various ways of placing them?" she asked. She never thought that it would matter how plants were watered but apparently it did. "Well, is there a specific way you think would be best?" she asked and looked at the ground as she thought for a bit. "Hmm.." she started and took another drink of her tea, it was really good! "What if we set them Horizontally?" she suggested quietly, taking another sip of her tea happily.
A softened smile came to Daylen's face as he listened to her. "Horizontally would work." He softly replied. "Would you prefer the watering system suspended in the air or grounded?" He could do both easily. However if she chose suspended in the air, he would just have to make it thinner then normal. Nothing hard to do, just a little more time consuming. Otherwise it might take away from the sun the plants would be getting in the middle of the day. Daylen took a drank of his coffee, it wasn't doing anything but atleast it tested good. He was already calculating the measurements in his head as he looked at the ceiling of the solarium. He muttered gently the numbers as he looked from one side to the other. His free hand as lightly writing the numbers in the air close to the floor as he figured out the calculations.
"I prefer it to be grounded really." Contessa replied and couldn't help but smile as she watched Daylen focus on measurements. She found it relaxing to hear him mutter the numbers to himself. Even when he wasn't in his study he was hard at work, did this man ever take a break from work? Contessa took another drink of her tea and just watched him, he looked so relaxed at the moment. He really did love to work but she hoped he would take breaks every now and then. He said he didn't eat lunch, but she'd feel out of place eating if she was the only one eating.
Daylen just nodded softly. "Grounded it is." He continued with his calculations. It was rather easy to calculate the measurements for the watering system. Slowly he stood up. He muttered a few more numbers as he looked around the solarium. He then turned his attention back to Contessa. "It shouldn't be hard to craft the watering system, I will go get started." He held his free hand out for her to take. "You can come if you're done planting." Daylen softly said in his normal tone. He didn't want her to feel like he was abandoning her to go work. It was actually the opposite, he wanted her to be with him while he worked. He enjoyed her company when they made the tonic together, it was nice not to be alone; and not have pranks to worry about.
Contessa watched him in his relaxed state and smiled, at least today he didn't have any pranks to worry about. Where was Sirus anyway? Probably planning future pranks. Smiling, she took his hand and nodded, "I'd really like that." she replied and stood up with him carefully. Of course she wanted to go with him. She wanted to watch him work peacefully. "I'm sure you'll do a great job Daylen." Contessa commented softly. "What other things are you hoping to work on when this is all finished?" she asked curiously. Surely Daylen had a few other things that he planned to work on when he could.
Daylen just lead her to his study from the hallway. He walked inside, setting his coffee down on his desk before searching the stacks of books. Once finding a large leather bound book, he pulled it out of the pile. He set it on the deck near his coffee. Inside was filled with blueprints and ideas waiting to be created. "I been inviting since I was very little. I make prints of all my thoughts." He simply told her opening the book. "Just never got around to making them." He said the last sentence softly. He would let her search through them if she wanted. He gathered many empty bottles and set them near the cauldron, they still needed to bottle the tonic. He would let Contessa do that why he finished the blueprints of the watering system.
Contessa followed close behind, her tea in her hands. Once inside, she looked around and let out a happy sigh, this was were Daylen felt the most comfortable. She wondered what he would do if she cleaned up the room? She was hesitant to try though, maybe the fact that it was all over the place was what comforted him? Contessa's eyes widened slightly when she was presented with the large book. "Really? That's really impressive Daylen!" she said with a smile as she opened up the book carefully and started looking through them. "So you plan on making all of these someday?" she asked, looking at him with a grin on her face.
Daylen just nodded slightly as he got everything ready for the tonic. "I plan too. I plan to clean this place one day as well." He said shyly, he always got caught up in his work that he never cleaned. It really needed to be done one day. Maybe he'll take a day to do just that. He searched through the stacks once more before finding another leather bound book. "I have multiple books filled with prints of things I plan to build one day, I just never got around to them." He said placing the book near the other one. He didn't remember how many were around the study but he did have allot of them, even loose papers were stacked in piles of prints.
Contessa looked at the other book then at him as she placed it under the first book. "I'm sure you'll get it all done eventually, and I'd be more than happy to help. In fact, I'll clean it up for you." She said happily and finished her tea, placing it to the side so it wouldn't get in the way. She really wanted to help, and if he really wanted this room clean, she'd do it in a heart beat. She'd even help organize his things in here. All blue prints would be in one place that way he didn't loose any. Tonics in another, seeds in another and so on. "Is there anything I can help you with right now?" she asked softly.
Daylen just softly smiled. He hoped that one day he could finish them all. Maybe he could when he retired, however that was a long way away. "That's a nice offer, I made the mess though. I can clean it when I have the time." He said shyly. He didn't want her to be here just to clean up his messy study. He wanted her there so he could get to know her, spend time with her. Daylen nodded softly. "If you want, you can put the tonic in the bottles." He reached into his desk and searched for a tool. Finding it, Daylen held out a small ladle with a small pouring spout. It made it easier to put the tonic in the bottles. "All you have to do is filled them up and put a quart in them." He simply told her. The bottles already had the quart so it would be a hard task, just time consuming.
Contessa was going to speak but decided it was best she didn't. She really didn't want to argue, but if it was possible, she'd surprise him with a clean study. How was she going to pull it off though? She'd need Sirus to keep Daylen away while she cleaned. She'll have to talk to Sirus about this someday. Snapping out of her thoughts, Contessa nodded and looked at all the bottles then at the ladle. "Alright then, sounds like fun." she said with a smile as she removed one of the quarts from the bottle and placed it to the side while she dipped the ladle in the cauldron and started to carefully pour the liquid into the first bottle.
Daylen just walked to his engineering work desk. He had his blueprints for the watering system on it. He picked up his quill and dipped it gently in some ink. He quickly wrote on the paper all the calculations he had just done in the solarium. He drew small pictures of how it should look near the numbers. From time to time he would stop and murmur to himself, one set of numbers looked off to him. He crossed them out and added the calculation once more. He came up with the same numbers, he knew that wasn't right. Daylen just opened a drawer in his desk to remove a abacus. He calculated once more on the old abacus, still the numbers were the same. Maybe he was missing something. He eyed over his print trying to find the mistake. He knew it was there, he just needed to find it.
Contessa continued to pour the liquid into the various flasks, making sure to put the quarts back on them each time she was done with them. She carefully placed all the ones she filled to the side and glanced over at Daylen. He seemed to be troubled by something and she raised an eyebrow curiously. "Is something wrong?" she asked softly and looked back at her work, filling the remaining flasks with what was left of the liquid. She was really happy with herself to be able to help Daylen in any way she could. She blushed at what he had said to her yesterday and fought back the urge to giggle and hop around, keeping a serious look on her face.
Daylen lightly scratched his head in thought. "Something is off on the numbers. They keep adding the same. They're wrong." He simply said to Contessa. His eyes traced the paper. He softly smiled as he noticed why the numbers were wrong. "Found it." He crossed out the numbers once more before adding the calculations once more, coming to the correct answer. He quickly wrote them down. It was a simple plain mistake in geometry. Once more Daylen traced the paper, he was adding the numbers again. It was correct. He then set the paper aside to dry before placing his quill near the ink bottle. Now he just need to start the fun part. The mechanics of the watering system. He searched the drawers full of random pieces from previous machines he broke down. Taking out pieces he believed would be the best for it.
