He paused kicking the door...that didn't budge either.
"I'll make sure that if it doesn't kill me...it does you." His gaze was dark and full of loathing as he once again pounded the bars with his boots, grateful that he still had his clothes this time.
"I'll definetly make sure that you're the one to greet me in hell."

::The professor laughed, blowing a puff of smoke into his cell "yeah sure kid... keep thinking that." he turned and walked off, back into the room where i sat, nude once again.
He set the bag of sterile needles down on the table and yawned. He glanced over at me while I sobbed and he walked up to me. I kept my face down. He brought up his hand slowly; I flinched and he only touched my wing gently. "Risa... Im just going to take some more blood.. to study and conserve. A few hair samples, feathers, skin flakes.. then im letting you go.."
My eyes widened; I thought I misheard him "What?"
He smiled "Im letting you and your friend go. Ill have what I need to do my experiments... no need to keep you suffering like this.." she scratched the back of his head, taking one last puff of his cigarette before putting it out in a nearby ash tray::

Kane slammed against the bars and slid to the bottom. This...this sucked....he couldn't get out...he couldn't save Risa..all he could do was wait....and that...was the most frightening of all....his mind wandered to all that Risa could be going through...and he slammed his fist against the concrete.

((Last one 'NIGHT!! XDD))

::he pulled out his keys and unlocked my collar and handed me the lab coat "put.. this back on, and please.. be patient. If you let me take samples, I wont tell anyone of your secret.."
I smiled at him "i..had a feeling there was some good in you somewhere.." I pulled out some small feathers, wincing at the pinch of pain and put them on the table beside me and he pulled up a chair with 2 needles and a rubber strap. "Put out your arm.. I'm going to take your blood.."
I did as he said and he tied the rubber band around my arm to stop blood flow and he took 2 needles full of blood. I winced at the pain. He then untied the rubber thing and handed me a band-aid. I laid the lab coat over me as I lay on my side on the table "i need to rest for a minute.." the blood taking out of me made me sick to my stomach and light-headed. I closed my eyes as he plucked out a few of my hairs and a couple more feathers and put them in petri dishes and baggies.
A few minutes later I opened my eyes and I sat up. the professor was hunched over his desk and I smiled, putting the lab coat on and standing up. "Mind if I leave now?"
The professor turned around and took off his goggles and stood up. "Thank you..Risa...and Im sorry..." he looked ashamed and I smiled at him, putting my hand on his shoulder "I understand...its just lack of knowledge that leads the human race to do stupid things..good thing you have a heart.." He handed me the keys and smiled "i have your number if I need you." i nodded and made my way to the tower.
Upon entering, I looked at Kane, sitting in the corner and I leaned my back against the doorway of the room, swinging the keys around my index finger "my poor Kane.. what shall I do with you..."
[I almost threw up explaining the blood taking.. I cry hysterically when I get blood taken.. or get any needles...]

He slammed his fist against the dashboard frustrated with himself. This day has been a complete failure.. I've wasted too much time. Not to mention risking my own life.. for a complete stranger! ..and nothing to show for it He ran his fingers through his hair and bit his lip thinking to himself. He sighed looking out through the window at the murky sky in displeasure. The van went on it's programmed course, the only vehicle still on the road so late into the night. How am I going to explain myself now? He sighed as he turned his eyes to his watch, the numbers began to fade as his eyes slowly closed.


He woke up with a gasp by the sound of fingers snapping. His body jolted forward as he found himself being picked up off a basement floor. He looked around the room wide eyed until he realized where he was. He was being supported from under his arms by a man wearing a dark suit.

"So glad to see you back from school.. unscathed." A man approached him speaking in a mock-concern tone and laughed. He placed his hand on the boy's shoulder looking down at him. The look in his eyes was familiarly cold.
"I've been worried about you Zahara.." He grinned and lifted Zahara's chin to look into his groggy eyes. "Worried that you'd disappoint me.."


Zahara looked up at the man as he filled with an overwhelming panic he could hardly contain. He frantically grabbed whatever words or thoughs he could form into a sentence knowing this sign of mercy was but a fleeting moment that could end any second.

"I ..ah. n'.. There --. Is no reason to be worried..! I will not disappoint you." His body shook as he quickly bowed, anxoiusly waiting to be sent out. He clenched his trembling hands by his sides noticing the man that was behind him had left.

"Lets hope, for your sake and mine, you are a man of your word. I've been running low on dependable people these days. Your lack of professionalism concerns me." His eyes seemed to pierce right through the boy as he spoke in a sharp tone. He smiled and patted Zahara on the shoulder. "When a dog can no longer walk, it is no longer a dog. And when a bird can no longer fly, it is no longer a bird. The only thing to do to save them from their misery... Did you ever have to put an animal down? It's a damned shame.. Dont disappoint me."

Seeing his expression he looked down at the ground with wide eyes feeling his heart race faster the more he spoke. "Yes Sir, you wont be, I.. I just need time.." He heard loud scratching of metal and realized the trap door at the top of the metal staircase had been unlocked.

"Lets hope you are right.." He crossed his arms and scratched his chin. "I don't want you getting sloppy again.. Sleeping outside the base in a parked van for all to see. I saw the back of the van. I can only imagine what you were doing with those things. You'll have your time, but I expect results in the end." He pulled out Zahara's handheld device he had been holding in his pocket and tapped the screen. "I've given you a new location. It would be very inconvenient for someone to connect you to this place." He placed the device in Zahara's coat pocket and laughed as the boy flinched. "Zahara.. I'm being very lenient with you right now. Do not take advantage of such kindness." He smiled and nudged him towards the stairs amused with himself as he spoke like a concerned parent. "Now go home and get ready for school. We wouldnt want you nodding off again, now would we?"

(Anyakan's note on needles: They take he rubberband off while the needle is in and put a wad of gauze on the spot as they pull it out. I get around two to three large tubes the width of a quarter and three to four smaller tubes taken a month, used to be bi-weekly. e.e It dont hurt that bad, after a while you get used to it and it doesnt phase you. The type of needle also is a factor. If you freak out at needles ask for the butterfly needle. Its so tiny you dont even realize the nurse had it in you. I think people's anxiety makes them feel like it's much worse than it really is.)

Kane leapt to his feet.
"RISA!" He cried seeing her there...without a collar...and...
"Risa?" His face turned quizzically to her.
"You're.....you're alright....?" He ratteled the bars, looking them up and down.
"Come on then,, let me out of here." He didn't understand what was going on, but he wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth.

((I give blood so I'm not really bothered either, frankly the prick on your finger that they test hurts a lot worse than when you actually give.))

::I smiled at him at his reaction and I walked up to the cage and unlocked it, swinging the large brass bar door open slowly.
"He.. Let me go..he let us go Kane..." I opened my arms to him. I wanted to bad to hold him.::
[so... you wont be able to be online at nights for a little while?? TT.TT]

He rushed out unbelieving that she really stood in front of him.
"Are you alright? He...He let you GO?" Kane was really confused now.
"Are you kidding me...after all that...he's going to let us walk out the front door...without anymore trouble?"

((Yah....It sucks but I can't even get the thing to start up long enough to shut it down DX))

::I nodded, putting th keys on a nearby table "yeah... he didnt want to see me suffer anymore... so he took some back stock samples and said we could leave. C'mon... I have a mother to yell at.." I put my hand out to him and smile warmly "lets go home.."
My wings folded neatly behind me, I was still barefoot and in just a button down lab coat. My stomach growled and I smiled goofy.::

He nodded about going home..but then stopped.
"Risa....you go ahead...I've....I've got something I want to make sure of first." He squeezed her hand and turned to head for the room that they were last in...he was still confused.

"Hey." He said simply as he walked back through the door, the professor once again back at that blasted computer.
"What's the deal?"

((Yeah...I wish it hadn't died...I'm going to get more sleep now XDD))

::I quirked an eyebrow watching him walk out and sighed, muttering to myself "now that we're free he wants to stay?" i shrugged my shoulders and plopped down in a nearby chair.

The professor turned and pulled up his magnified goggles, then flinched "Hey.. beat it kid.... get out of here alright..?" he stood, guarding his samples, with his body. "This doesn't concern you... you wouldn't understand anyway.."::

"Like hell old man, you put Risa through hell, not to mention taking a vial of my OWN blood to mix with hers..now I want some answers!" He took a step forward.
"Unless you want to try reaching for that rifle again?" He relaxed and sighed.
"Look, I don't like you and you more than likely don't like me...but at least explain to me what was that white stuff that you got when you mixed our blood."

((I know...I doubt broadband...we're too far out for that...but I wouldn't mind a new computer. XDD))

::He grinned "Youre curious about her, aren't you boy?" he picked up the vial he was talking about and walked up to him "Winged DNA. I mixed hers with yours. It turned pure white- like her wings. I'm going to do some experiments..." he pointed to a few cages that held rats and had one cat and smiled "if I'm correct, her DNA will make them...sprout wings..like hers.." he smiled, sitting back down.
"Risa knows why I did it... I apologized, and I'm even setting you both free... now leave me to my experiments...." he was so excited over this new discovery, he could barely contain himself.::
[I have to go to work now... ill reply later and ill see you on tomorrow morning. <3 see yah..*sniffle*]

"Not about her...I'm curious about you...what makes you think that you can haul off and practically kidnapp a young girl for a sick amount of experiments?" He moved to where the cat was and ran a finger across it's cheek.
"You apologized...but that's not going to undo what you've already done."

::The professor sighed and put his hand on the boys shoulder "I knew she or her mother would never agree to coming along with me for experiments.. I had to come up with something for her to come to my lab alone..." He removed his hand and rubbed his hands together, turning back to the vial he set down.
"Do.. you have any idea what I may have here? It could be a missing link... to the evolutionary scale... or even a mutation for humans thats far too advanced for people to understand now... It could be a new form of human.. a new race..." she quirked an eyebrow "I hope youre following me... I never intended to hurt the Angel purposely.... I just needed her to cooperate without freaking out... then you came along..." he frowned.
"You had to ruin everything... she was getting better... and easier to handle.. I could have had a LIVE specimen for the next Scientists Committee Convention in Boston, United States...." he turned to the cat and pet it, it mewed in fear.
"I'm only hoping this gene splicing will work on animals... I planned to use it on you...but I know you'd never keep your mouth shut... and I couldn't have the death of a boy on my hands, in case something went wrong... I'm sure you have family out there that would be looking for you.." he coughed and sat back down in his creaky chair.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have tests to run. Please leave before I change my mind, boy." He slid his magnified goggles back on and poured a drop of the white blood mixture onto a petri glass and eyed it under a microscope::

Kane looked at him as he turned to the table.
"You make me sick!" He jerked the professor around and grabbed him up by his coat front.
"Stop talking about Risa like she's just a thing! She's human!" He shook his head.
"No..she's more than that...she's the one I love...but she's still a person. So you'd better start showing it." He smirked.
"Before I change my mind." He dropped him and soothed the animal's frazzled nerves.
"Why do you want this so badly?...If I knew you'd have carried it this far, I'd never have suggested it...I just wanted Risa out of that thing you had her in."

::The Professor groaned "Why do you insist on staying here boy? LEAVE now!" He jerked Kane's hands off his coat and pressed the wrinkles out. "I have better things to do than explain myself to someone like you..."
He grinned, sitting back down "Risa is not human, whether you like it or not...so get over it. You may love her, but you two can never be one." He closed his eyes and rubbed them.
He looked to the boy puzzled. "What thing are you talking about? I set her free.."::
[heyy!!! *tackleglomp* i missed chuuuu! whats the diagnosis on your computer??]

"You're right...she's not Human...there are sometimes that she's downright scared me...but...I'm okay with that..." He let his hand fall from the cage and he sighed.
"Everything..you hurt her...and you wen't the most gracious of hosts....you could have at least given her clothes..bastard." He glared at the professor's back and turned on his heels.
"It's no use talking of Humanity to someone as twisted as you.." He stopped at the door.
"If Risa's secret gets out..and she's hurt for it....I'll be seeing you again."

Kane made his way back to where Risa was waiting and said nothing, instead wrapped her in his arms and squeezed tightly.
"I'm seriously debating whether to let you out of my sights again." He said jokingly.
"Everytime you do, you seem to get into more trouble." He smiled as he pulled away, reaching down to lift her into a carry.

::He glanced over at him "She needed to be nude for the experiments... besides.. she was a pure gem to stare at..." he laughed a bit under his breath, then coughed.
He waved his hand at him "yeah yeah, just leave now.." she sighed, burying himself back in his studies.

I was suprized at the arms that wrapped around me and I looked up at him "Oh! you scared me.." I touched his hand.
I blushed and brought my arms up to my chest as he hoisted me in the air "Kane... I can walk you know...."::

Kane only nodded and kept walking.
"I know...but...I like carrying you..at least then..I know you're safe." He leaned his head against hers and ground his teeth...he still blamed himself...but there were more important things to do at that time..like getting Risa home and taking care of her wounds.
"I bet your mom isn't going to be happy with us is she?" He smirked thinking of her red face.
"You were supposed to be gone for a while."

::i put my arms around his neck and smiled closing my eyes. I was exhausted and I ached all over.
"Dont worry about my mother....Ill take care of her. If she doesnt understand or believe me... Ill just have to move out." I sighed deeply and looked to him as we approached the front door "Kane... how do you expect me to get us home if youre carrying me?" I blushed and looked up at him::

He smiled.
"There's a bed at our place if you want it...I'm sure Juri would love to have you over."
He glared at the dogs as he walked out, dodging around their chains.
"Well...I guess...I'll have to carry you all the way. We can head the back way and make it to your place soon enough. How's that sound?"

:: I blush and wave my hands back and fourth "Oh, I could never burden you and your sister with my living there!"
I looked to him worried "Kane.. what if someone sees me? My wings are out..."
The dogs were asleep, they heard him walking by but didnt bother to react and just rolled over.
It was night now and i looked around. the Property seemed like a graveyeard at night..::

"You're not a burden silly, don't worry about it."
He nodded his head towards the surrounding area.
"That's why I said the 'back way'...alleys are perfect for hiding all sorts of things, including us." He moved out to the front gate and used a leg to edge it open so that he wouldn't have to put Risa down.

::I think "well, now that i think of it, i could get a job and pay you guys rent... if you have a spare room that is..." I sigh and get sad suddenly "But what about Oreo and Misty? I cant just leave them behind..." I close my eyes.
I tightened my grip around his neck and tucked my head under his chin, sighing deeply "Kane... you think of everything dont you.." i whispered. His heartbeat was just the right sound to soothe me to sleep in his warm grasp, but i jerked my eyes open now and again::
