Juri just chuckled.
"Just leave him, if he gets sick or something, it'll be his fault for not coming straight home." She waved her hand and shooed Risa on up the stairs.
"Go on you, flattery isn't becoming." She laughed and moved back to her kettle running her hand absently through the steam that was leaking out of the top that never fit quite right.

It was only a short time later that Kane, soaked to the bone and breathing slightly heavier than before, came jogging up the walk and paused under the awning to shiver and shake his head clear of the water that dripped from the ends. He didn't want to hear Juri's lecture about running in the rain again, so he 'borrowed' the spare key from under the mailbox and let himself in.
"I'm home!" He called laying his wet shoes by the door, and dropping his bag where he stood.
"It's about time." Juri stood against the kitchen's doorframe and looked over, glaring when Kane walked over to Abel's cage, making wet footprints in her carpet.
"Jerk." She muttered.
"You're cleaning that." He smiled and stuck his tounge out brushing a finger over the parrot's breast feathers.
"Hey, Juri feed you today?" A sqwak and a flutter was his answer, he smiled and looked back to the couch.
"She feed you two carpet sharks too?"
"Of course I did moron. What did you think I was going to let them starve? But with the way that Abel eats, I'm starting to think that's not such a bad idea."

Kane looked back into the kitchen where juri had moved and poked his head around the corner.
"Hey....did..did Risa show up?"

DISH TOWEL TO THE FACE!
Kane let out a cry as he peeled the wet rag off his face with disgust, he wiped off the water, only to look again and find Juri's face right next to his.
"Yes, with no thanks to you IDIOT!" She aimed a punch for his face, but he ducked just in time for it to whizz past his head, although harmless in it's path, he felt the wind brush his hair.
"Geeze, what did I do now!?" He asked retreating a few paces.
"You made her walk all the way here in the rain moron, but despite your stupidity, she got here safe and sound, she's upstairs..probably drying off by now. I sent her up for a shower and told her--" The kettles whistle stopped her and she hurried back to pour water into the two cups of hot tea that was readied by the stove.
"Anyway," She finished.
"I told her I'd have something warm to drink for her when she came back down. After that, I suggest you go do the same."
"What, shower or fix something hot to drink." He ducked as another wet rag was flung at him.
"Alright, alright, I get you, I'll just go complain to Able till she's done upstairs." He sauntered back into the other room and crooned softly to the parrot, talking to him as if he were just another human.

"It took me a while to get wet enough, I wouldn't come home until I was thoroughly soaked." He joked as Juri merely glared.
"Alright, Alright sis, I know that look, I'm going." He smiled, pausing only to scratch the feline at his feet beneath the chin a moment before hopping onto the staircase, taking the steps two or three at a time.

"I swear..sometimes that boy makes me worry." Juri sighed, handing off the cup to Risa.
"You find everything you need?" She asked, moving to the breakfast nook and sitting down.

Upstairs, Kane stepped into the shower, under water so hot that it turned his chilled skin red. He hissed as steam rose from inside the cubicle and fogged the glass up.
"Ahhhhh...that's better." He sighed, turning his back into the stream, feeling his blood begin to pump normally again.
"I wonder if Drac ever went home...or maybe he's stalking the halls looking for someone to bite!" He wiggled his fingers in front of his face, making creepy noises, then laughing. As if that were possible. But then he remembered...there had been something pass between Risa and Spooky before Kane came out on the roof...
"I'll have to make sure and talk to her about that when I go back downstairs." He then turned his attention to the task at hand, and finished as quickly as he dared, Juri was still waiting down there. He chuckled.

Juri sighed.
"You know you don't have to, but you seem intent on this...so I'll keep a look out, my place isn't hiring out anything as of yet, but if they change their mind I'll let you know." She reached across and patted Risa's hand.
"You're amazingly strong for a girl your age...you're certainly going to change the world around you."

"Juri....you're too young to be giving advice like that." Kane smirked as he moved onto the linoleum floor, a towel draped over his shoulders, and his cleanest pair of dirty shorts riding down just below his black tank.
"Flattery," She said with a turn.
"Will NOT get you out of dish, or tasting duty for the next month and a half mister, so forget trying to suck up." Kane stuck out his tounge as he rummaged in the refridgerator coming out with a can of soda.
"That reminds me," He said taking a sip.
"Risa, was there something between you and Drac today? I mean the two of you were really off the mark during school." Juri cocked an eyebrow.
"Drac? Who's that."
"This really creepy kid at school, he's always floating around like he doesn't have a set way, and he plays basketball like an olympic gymnast."
"Sounds like you could learn something from him."
"Ha.HA. very funny sis."

KAne's face turned dark.
"I'm going to have to have another 'talk' with him then."
"Risa! You're none of that!" Juri's eyes were snapping as she leaned over.
"You're a sweet girl! And anyone who disagrees is an idiot."

Kane was smiling...until Risa told him she worried for his saftey.
"Kane..." Juri said neutrally...always a bad sign.
"Is there a reason that Risa should be worried?"
"Well...uh..."
"Did you fight this kid?"
"Mehbeh...."
"Kane.."
"Okay, so we sparred, but that's nothing new, we both wanted to test our limits and he kinda got me on the ground an--"
"KANE!" Juri rose to her feet, she moved over to her brother's side and smacked him upside the head.
"OW!"
"Idiot! Don't you know when you pick fights and when you don't?"
"Juri, it's not like he beat me up or anything...actually....I kind of freaked out a little...and he quit on me..just like that."
Juri moved back to her seat.
"Don't scare me like that...moron!"

Kane turned back to Risa, a hand on his hip and a slight smile on his face.
"Risa, there's no need for you to worry about anything. And what's this about 'saving me'? I thought it was the rogue that saved the maiden, not the other way around."
"That's knight you idiot." Juri corrected sipping her tea.
"Knight, Rogue, same thing." He shrugged and scoffed, leaning against the bar next to the sink.

"Risa?" Juri's ears wern't just for decoration. she lay a hand on Risa's shoulder and shook it lightly, coaxing her face out into the open.
"Risa. Don't talk like that." Juri's face was serious and calm, filled with love and understanding.
"What would that have accomplished?" She asked.
"What would that have done to Kane's ego? He came all that way, and almost got eaten alive by dogs to try and save you from that very fate....do you really want to emasculate him that much?" Her lips twitched into a smirk, as Kane's turned downward and his eyebrow ticked.
"That's hitting below the belt there Juri."
"Hey, all's fair in love and war little brother, and this is love."
"Pfh...what an excuse." But he couldn't help but smile nevertheless.

His smile faded, good Lord it hurt to see her cry, worse than any bullet wound, or knife cut, it went deeper than any of those...and cut to the quick.
"Risa.." He said softly.

Juri was silent. Did she honestly think she was...deformed? Kane said nothing, but was looking at the floor, his gaze dark...Juri looked over at him, concerned over the jade juxtaposed colors that had come over his normally emerald eyes.
"Is that what you think?" He asked quietly, barely audible over the water.
"Do you really think that...either of our lives would be better if we'd never met?" He turned to her and gripped her shoulders, sending the cup into the sink with a clatter.
"Risa, look at me, and tell me to my face that's what you believe!" His voice was louder now, causing an awkward silence in the room.
"Because if that's what you think....then was all those things you told me, about wanting to stay with me, were they all a lie? What did you stand up to your mother for, if you didn't believe that I loved you come what may. Risa...." He glanced away, loosening his grip on her, and then leaning in and brushing his lips over her forhead.
"I don't want to think that I was about to get shot for something that was meaningless to either of us...that makes me no better than those idiotic superheroes that go barging in where they know a trap is....like that idiot Stoker when he went to rescue his girl from Drac." He smiled against her cool skin where he hadn't moved and pulled her close to him, merely holding her there, afraid that if he let go...she might disappear...or fly away.

Juri, who had been holding her head in her hands, looked pointedly away, trying her best not to smile, really..it was all too cute.
"Well, you two seem to have a lot to talk about, I'll just mosey on up to bed, and let you two have reign down here." She waved 'goodnight' and hurried out. Risa and Kane seemed to have a lot on their minds, and even though she was the overbearing big sister..Juri knew when to let sleeping dogs lie.

Kane scoffed lightly.
"If that's what you think, that I'd be happy with someone like Chi, then you're sorely mistaken."
He growled low in his chest, and thought that the irony was too funny. There they stood, Risa, as innocent as she could be, trying to burden herself with the weight of the world. A mere Dove, compared to his Wolfish ideals and actions....one ruled the sky, while the other was left to merely watch from the ground, unable to join her.
"Risa...I went through all that..because I wanted to, I knew what it meant to love you, and I didn't care. I've had 'normal', hell, 'normal' stalks me through school, I can't get away from 'NORMAL'." He sighed heavily, his body lifting Risa's as his lungs filled.
"Risa...No one...be he normal or otherwise, should be a caged bird...no one." He turned back to look toward the living room and winced...Abel was sure to give him down the road about that one.
"Well, you know what I mean." He said turning back.
"People are bound only by the choices that they make, other than that, you're free to do whatever you want...it's mankind's God-given right."

"Do you love me because of my wings... because I'm different??" I asked, looking up at him, keeping my grip on him and relaxing my wings to my back once more.
"Kane, I don't think you understand... I want to hide from the world, so no one cane hurt me...again.. but I'm so tired of hiding... I want to fly freely, without worrying that someone will shoot me out of the sky... worrying that someone will see me... I'd love to go swimming with you at school, be your partner and win the races in class... but I can never do that... we... can never..." I trailed off... thinking such childish things was foolish... to even think that Kane would put up with me for much longer was funny. I pulled my body from his and faced my back to him.
"Do you want to be happy, and have a family one day? Be honest with me, and please tell me."[/i]

"Risa." He said calmly.
"You were diffrent even before I knew about your wings. I had to chase after you that first day remember? And you weren't scared of me...well, after the inital meeting wore off." He chuckled thinking of how he'd thrown her over his shoulder going back to the roof to merely talk.
"Are you afraid that...that's what I would do?" He hung his head, their forheads touching.
"You've went swimming, you flew without fear, we were all alone, and you did those things, what makes you think that you can't do them again?"
He reached out a hand as she turned away out of habit, but then let it drop to his side again.
"Risa...I want you to be happy, everything else for me will fall into place. I hadn't really thought about a family, but I suppose it might be nice...but right now it's not top priority." As he spoke..it suddenly occured to him...all this was stupid...he was trying to cage her...he was grasping to keep her when she was not his to tame.
"Risa...I want you to be happy...but the way that things are going...I'm merely hanging on for myself...I've answered you...now will you answer me?
What would make you happy? Do you want me to give up, and let you live the way that you're used to? I've tried to force so many things on you, all the while thinking that I was helping you...but I guess that was just my lie."

"Risa..." There was no way that..as he was, that he could do all that for her. He could give her all the emotional support she could ever want...but it wasn't enough.
"I already trust you Risa...but...if...if you can't be normal...then....normalcy can go to hell."
He looked upward his face set.
"I guess I can't give up on you as easily as I thought, and you're going to want to kill me...but what about that professor? He still has all that data that he gathered from your blood, and I'm still willing. If running and swimming and..." He blushed.
"That...o-other stuff is that important, then I'll just have to join you, what's a bird without a mate?"

Kane stared indignantly at the finger before him, but chuckled at the pink face behind that.
"Fine then." He said as she moved into the living room, he followed close behind.
"If you want it all out then okay." He stood in front of Abel's cage and put his hands on his hips, feet spread apart.
"Here's the thing.
1. That crazy professor has your blood.
2. I'm not giving up on you.
3. I'm still unsure of what would happen, but I'm willing to try anything.
4. I'm about this close to going and asking him to inject me with that mess and see if I can't join you in your ring of individuality A.K.A
I'ma gonna grow me some new appendages too."
He counted each point out on his fingers and then stared at Risa awaiting a reaction.

His head slid to the side of the car and hit the glass, causing him to jolt up abruptly. His wide eyes darted side to side, taking a quick glance at the woman next to him. He hadn't remembered being picked up, but slowly recalled some events from his long day at school.
He yawned tiredly, holding the back of his hand to his mouth as he stretched. Grunting tiredly he relaxed in his seat and turned to her, speaking in a drowsy tone.
"Where are we going..?" Shivering from a sudden chill he pulled the coat that was draped over him closer and waited for her to either answer or acknowledge the fact he was awake at the moment.

Kane backed away slowly, nearly bumping into Abel as he skitted away from Risa's invading finger.
"Hey," He started.
"What am I supposed to do Risa!? You keep asking me wouldn't I be happier if I dated someone else, that's like asking someone if they'd be happier with a serial killer. No I wouldn't, and you keep freaking out over being 'normal' which is overrated by the way, so I can't let you hang off your limb alone." He looked behind her at the feathers.
"Well, at least they aren't filled with mites, unlike some"

"Kane! You're getting off the topic! I'm not going to let you ruin your life!" I stomped away from him and plopped back down on the couch.
"We should get to sleep... we have a carnival to attend tomorrow, remember?" I said to him, snuggling into the cushions.



I looked over at him and smiled as the rain seemed to pound down harder on the wind shield.
"Hello sweetheart. I stopped off at a few places, got us some dinner... we're almost home, so sit tight. I know youve been over exerting yourself again.... you should rest as much as you can..."
After a few minutes, I drover into the driveway of the seemingly normal house. The gates creaked open at the touch of a button and I drove the black Mercedes inward up the long path towards our home.
