Souban spoke up now, straightening up from sprinkling the dust. "It's your brother, Hemset. I brought him back from the dead." She moved to the brothers, dropping her hood. "Talk to him and you'll see." |
"and just who are you?" Set turned to her.
"A friend Set" Melhet took another step forward, "please don't hurt her." |
Automatically, Souban's staff was in front of her. "Why would he?" She questioned. "After all, since you two are stuck in this room, imagine what I could do to your defenseless charges..." Souban smiled, and tilted her head. "I'm Souban the Necromancer. I was Lakar's student before you." Her eyes darkened. "He didn't agee with my...methods, and forced me to leave Egypt. Now, he's dead, and I'm back. And." She changed the subject, "I've brought you your brother." She sighed, and moved to the desk, tugging feathers off one of the corpses, and opening the tiny bird with her knife. "Now, we have a bit of a problem, though. Your brother doesn't have much longer before he'll die again. Why don't you explain things, Melhet?" |
Set was at a loss. He didn't know what to say or do so Melhet spoke up as commanded, "It's true Set. Malum killed me back then. You know if it was any other way I would have come back for you. Well, I still did come back for you didn't I? I swore I always would." he swallowed nervously, "but now there's a catch. I'll only stay this way if I kill my murderer, if I can't do that then I go right back to the grave."
Set's eyes scanned over the windows and the door, eyeing the powder in place before turning back to his brother, "so what then? You set me up in here? To keep out of your way? That doesn't sound like my brother to me." "... that part wasn't exactly my choice" Melhet glanced at Souban, "she's a bit over cautious." "and I'm not easily trapped" Set spun his staff and slammed it into the floor. A sharp wave of magic shot out to disrupt the powder. (tis up to you what it does though :P your spell) |
Souban didn't even move, other than to raise an eyebrow. "A pity. Now I'll need to redo the whole spell and move the dust before you can leave. And no, it's not to trap you, exactly. I'm not going to keep you here. This was just in case you tried to leave before hearing us out. I've no desire to harm you." She smiled, looking up from the bird. "Actually, we wanted your help. See, that little..." She spat out the word, "princess...trusts you, and she is the closest person around Malum most of the time. It would be easy for you to trap Malum, and let Melhet kill him. Plus...you talk to her, you must know some of Malum's secrets. You can act as a spy for us." She paused, before narrowing her eyes. "It's the only way you get to keep your brother. Otherwise, in nine more days, he will die again. And this time I can't bring him back. Only one chance, understand." |
"Set, please" Melhet begged, "I don't want to die again."
The priest just stood there, both hands on his staff as he stared at the floor. This man looked like Melhet, talked like Melhet, even smelled like him. He knew things only Melhet could possibly have known and he said just the right secrets for his proof. If this was a lie, it was beyond convincing. "I pledged my loyalty, my life to the royal blood of Egypt. Are you really asking me to break that oath?" |
"Oh, you don't need to tell us any royal family secrets, and you wouldn't be betraying them, anyway. Just Malum." For now. "And, besides. Isn't it better for your princess to stay away from him? I've heard so many rumors. Was she really in his harem? A royal family member in the King of Thieves' harem." She snickered, and focused on the bird once again, carefully removing organs and setting each tiny thing on the desk. "Will you help us?" |
"What Princess Asima does is of no concern to you" Set stated firmly, looking up at the pair of them with fierce eyes, "I will not betray the safety and protection of the royal line or the palace in any way... so we'll just have to do it outside the palace walls and away from them." he turned his eyes to Melhet. When it came down to it after all, he hated Malum for everything he did. Set hated him with a passion as strong as his loyalties had once been-before becoming divided that is. With Melhet in the picture, the scales were tipped just enough off balance.
Melhet smiled and moved forward to give his brother a hug, "I knew you'd pull through Set. Always there for me, aren't you?" Set gave a slight smile and hugged him back tightly. It felt like Melhet, it had to be him. After all this time, his brother was finally back. Finally some of that pain from the past could be lifted. It was like coming home at last. ((bedtime! g'night)) |
(GAHH! -sobs- Okay. Hopefully I'll see you tommorrow morning.) Souban smiled. "Welcome to your new life." She muttered. After Solum, it would be easy to get Set to turn on Asima and Nemiah. Soon, she'd take what she deserved. She removed her cloak, revealing bright red hair. It may be hard to dye black hair, but magic made it so much easier. Quickly, more powder was made and sprinkled, and scuffed with Souan's tall shoes. "So, then. You wish to do this away from the palace. What would be the easiest way to get Malum out of there, and keep him unsuspecting?" |
"Just leave that to me" Set replied, "They're trying to set a trap for you. I'll get them to do it at the outskirt of town, on the north end. Set yourselves up there before they do."
Melhet nodded, "Thank you brother." he grasped Set's shoulder and smiled, "I look forward to spending more time with you. We have so much to discuss" Set smiled back, "I missed you brother." he swallowed and backed away, "I should get heading back before anyone wonders where I am." |
Souban smiled, and moved to the door, shoving the dust to one side of the door. She sauntered over to the bird she'd been working on. "You have birdhouses at the palace, I'm sure? Here...put this bird in them, and when you need to speak with us, use it." |
Set looked at the bird and then shook his head, "No. I don't want either of you, nor your creatures or followers stepping foot or wing into that place" he replied firmly, "I'm sorry, but that is not negotiable and if I discover that you do send anything" he faced Souban seriously, "I will first of all destroy it and then come for you. Do not think my love for my brother makes my loyalties to the palace any less. It is only Malum that I have no love for, he's all yours. If I need to contact you, I have my own methods."
With that he nodded once more to Melhet, "I will see you later" he smiled and walked out. |
Souban threw the tweeting bird at the door once Hemset left. The bird fell to the ground, no longer tweeting. "Your brother needs to learn to hold his tounge. But, you'll teach him. He'll learn. How do you think we'll turn him against The Pharaoh and his sister?" |
Melhet frowned, "... I'm not sure that's going to be very wise my lady. If he's really as loyal to them as me, trying to change his mind is going to be no easy task. Perhaps if you had brought me back sooner..."
|
Souban didn't reply. Melhet was her first successful person she'd brought back, and he hadn't even passed the month mark yet. She bit her tounge. Melhet didn't deserve her tounge lashing. "Well, you are here now, so this is where we must go from. You do realize, Melhet, if he doesn't join us, your brother will stand on the other side when it becomes the Pharaoh's turn. Do you want to fight your brother?" She didn't wait for the response. "Of course not. So you'll have to turn him." She didn't need to say the rest. If Set didn't join them, Melhet would have to fight him, or Souban would kill him herself. After all, she had his heart. It was apart from his body, just in case, however, in the jar full of wet sand, it still beat. And she could easily crush it. (I hope you don't mind me adding that in. Thought it would make it more interesting. I can, of course, change it if you wish.) |
((Naw, I like it ^-^))
Melhet's gaze turned to the floor. He couldn't possibly fight Set, there was just no way, he'd rather die and that was saying something. He already knew death didn't agree with him. "He's grown up so much" Melhet leaned against the wall, peering out the window. He caught sight of Set just before the boy left completely, "he used to be so timid. I had to protect him from everything, and now he's become a man in his own right." he couldn't help but smile a bit, he was proud of his brother. "If all else false my lady, I thank you at least for the chance to know he is well off." |
"We will be able to convince him." Souban glanced to the male. He was rather like her pet, and she was fond of him. She wouldn't enjoy killing him if she had to. And that was a rare thing. "I may need to tell a bit of a lie, however, and use you against him. I'm wondering if there is some way we could tie the royal family into your death, so it would seem like you must kill them as well..?" |
"... please don't" Melhet replied with a touch of pleading to his voice, "Just let me try to talk to him first. Even if I can just get him out of the way, it would open the palace up to attack. Whether or not he turns on them won't matter as long as he isn't helping, right?"
|
Souban blinked, and glanced over. "Of course it does. You heard how he spoke, Melhet. If he found we'd killed the royal family, he may turn on us. Or the very least, me. And don't forget, you've given me your heart and soul, you allegiance until you die." She shook her head. "I want your brother by my side, with you. I don't want either of you dead." She grinned. "Besides...he is brimming with magic. A fighter like you, with your powers, and a mage like Hemset, we will be unstoppable." (Should we switch to the other characters now?) |
Melhet nodded, offering a half-hearted smile. He did like the thought of being unstoppable, especially if it was with his brother and his heart and soul did belong to her-which honestly could be worse. He could be dead, or she could be completely unbearable. As things stood though, he was nervous about turning Set's allegiance. He'd never seen his brother stand up for anyone like that-not unless it was Melhet himself.
((Sure ^-^)) |
Asima had found the twins soon after. "Sooo...have you two decided on a plan yet? What can I help with? Do you think whoever this was is gonna send more people. I was gonna ask Set if he had any ideas, but I couldn't find him. How are you!?" She was rather bubbly this morning, and couldn't seem to stop bouncing and shifting feet. |
Malum chuckled a bit at her, "Well I think as long as we can lure this person out, we should be able to trap them. All we need to do is find a spot and set up a few spells, and then somehow get their attention."
"And then not die" Solum added. "I know just the place" Set stated, suddenly standing in the doorway with his staff in hand. "and I'll help set up your spells-I also think I know how to get their attention. I only have one request, and it isn't negotiable" he turned his eyes to Asima, "I don't want you there." |
"Pshaw!" Asima replied, though hesitated at Set's expression. "No! I'm going, Set! If I can't go with them when I leave, I'll at least stay with them while they are here! And I can help! I've helped before...kinda!" And if Set told her no, she'd pretend to listen, then sneak after them... "I can come, right?" She looked from Malum to Solum, pleading with her eyes. "I can help...with the spells at the very least, then I'll go..." |
Before either the twins could interject Set faced Asima straight on, "No. So help me Asima, you can do whatever you want after today, but if you leave this palace, by the gods, I will not be able to protect you."
|
Asima laughed, and shook her head. "Set! I'm a big girl! I lace my own sandals and everything. I can protect myself. Maybe not before, but I can now. If you really don't want me to go, then just let me help prepare, and I'll come right back home, okay?" |
