Hemset was trembling, the man was shaking like a boy with fear in heart, "Asima... I'm so sorry" he whispered, "please... I'm so sorry..." tears began to form in his eyes.
"Shh..." Asima consoled the male. "Don't apoligize...Come sit and rest..." She tried helping Set up and back to the couch. "Malum? C-can you try to fix those?" The princess gave a tiny nod to the statues. It would be horrible for anyone to see them cracked or bleeding. And if one priest saw, the whole city would know.
"Um... I can try" Malum nodded, stepping forward to attempt and repair the damage.
"so... so sorry" Set whimpered, "so sorry" he curled up, holding onto Asima in tears. The complete draining of his magic had sped up the process of withdraw, he was returning to his right mind. Yet Set had refused to cry so often for so many things, he had refused to fall weak, outright refused. But now with everything that happened, the realization of everything he had done came crashing down around him. He'd lost everything, betrayed everyone he loved and nearly destroyed not only his own life but everyone around him as well. The tears fell like waterfalls, the guilt tore at his heart and left him feeling so alone. He clung to the only thing in reach, the girl he loved as his own family and yet had utterly betrayed, Asima. |
Asima continued to hold Set, wincing as he gripped her tightly. If it made him feel better then a little discomfort was fine. She continued rubbing his back gently, giving Malum a smile to say thank you, before returning her attention to Hemset. "It's alright...everything is alright, Set." She continued to croon, not sure of what else to say to the man.
Eventually Hemset passed out. Malum did all he could for the statues and appearance of the place. The blood was gone, and most of the damage cleared up, but there was a severe crack across the heart of Set's statue that wouldn't repair.
"Thank you, Malum." Asima stated once Set was asleep. "I'm going to sit with him until he wakes up. I'm sorry to see him hurting so much, but I'm glad he is back."
Malum nodded, "I'm going to check on Souban. Stay safe." he left.
Asima nodded and waved goodbye. She was awfully tired as well... She leaned on the back of the chaise, resting her eyes and resisting a yawn.
((Hmm, where to skip to?))
(Uhm.....not sure._ Set could wake up?)
((Does Asima fall asleep?))
(Yeah, I guess.)
At some point Asima had fallen asleep and by the time she woke up, Set had disappeared.
Waking up, Asima felt panic shoot through her. There was a tiny part of her still very afraid that Set would hurt someone, or himself. She moved to his quarters, peeking inside the door after a slight knock.
Set was in his room, sitting curled up at the head of his bed while gazing out the window.
"Are you alright?" Asima questioned softly. She hesitated in the door frame, unsure if Set wanted to leave her alone. But...he looked so lost. She couldn't just leave without making sure.
Set blinked and looked towards the doorway, seeing her he sighed and threw his legs over the side of the bed to fully face her, "Asima, there are so many things I need to make up for. I wasn't in my right mind, but that's no excuse. I still hurt you."
"Pshaw." Asima stated, shaking her ehad. "No. Nothing you need to make up for. Like you said, you weren't in your right mind....It's alright Set."
"No, it isn't" Set shook his head, "I'm flattered that you think you can forgive me so easily but there's still a problem. Me, my life, everything I am and everything I do, it's meant to be a punishment for a god. A god Asima. I'm a walking disaster, always have been and always will be-the only difference is now I know it."
"No." Asima stated, shaking her head. "You have a God inside of you, yes, and this is his punishment, yes, but you are two different entities. All the time I've known you...you've protected me and loved me like a sister. You've made me feel better, you've helped me so much. That's not a disaster, Hemset..."
He stared at her, "I've lost my entire family, spent my childhood moving from one place to another, thieving and on the edge of becoming a murderer. When I came here I never fit in-no one approved of some street-kid training to become high priest. I spent years of my life here alone and trying to figure out where and how I fit. You were my best friend and back then we barely even knew each other but that was all I had. Lakar taught me everything good I know and then he also died and now I've even hurt you. How much longer before you die to punish Set as well?"
"Well." Asima pursed her lips before biting her thumb. "Then I guess you'll just need to protect me extra specially good." She shook her head and continued. "I don't think you are bad luck, or a disaster, or anything. Bad things have happened, but you can't change them now. Just work on the future. Show Set the good parts of being mortal, alright? Maybe then, he can accept it and help you..."
"It's not up to Set" Hemset sighed, "it's up to every other god out there that has it out for him. How can I possibly fight against them all?"
"Maybe if Set starts understanding mortal ways, and that you can't save people, maybe they will go easier on him." Asima suggested hopefully. "It's worth a short, isn't it?"
Hemset glanced around the room, his scrolls and books and potion ingredients were all in their place. He tended to keep things a lot more organized than Lakar had. He reached out and ran his fingers along the page of text that held the instructions for making that magic addiction potion and then sighed and closed the book.
"Yes, perhaps it's worth a shot" Hemset agreed, "but I can't do it here. I'm leaving Asima-and before you can argue, you can't change my mind." |
