Set didn't have much to say, simply, "Goodbye" as he gave Asima a quick hug.
Solum was just helping Malum up when she returned and replied before Malum could get a word in, "as soon as I decide Malum is ready to walk without supervision" he replied. Malum shot his brother another glare, he was the King of thieves and certainly did not appreciate being babied. Yet for some reason he didn't say anything about it, only ate a bit of the food. "I would say half an hour" Solum nodded, "It seems Set did an exceptional job bringing him back." "Set?" Malum questioned, "Do I know that name?" "Yeah, Hemset, you killed his brother. Apparently he ran off to join the Pharaoh. He's not a half bad spell caster now either" Solum replied. "hm." Malum shrugged, "remind me about him later." |
"NO!" Asima replied loudly, thumping Malum on the back on the head lightly. "You will not hurt him! You've caused him enough trouble. The least a heartless bastard like you could do if offer him a spot at your side once more." She gave a tiny harumph, selecting a bit of lamb from the items, popping it into her mouth. She fully expected Malum to be livid with her, after she'd hit him on the head, but Asima hadn't really cared at the moment. Stupid impulses.
She turned to Solum a moment later, after swallowing. "I feel so bad for you, having a brother like him." She shook her head sadly. "My brother may have me killed, but at least he had a reason. He was willing to give you up to the noose." |
Malum blinked, somewhat startled that Asima would actually strike him. He looked at the princess and raised an eyebrow, surprisingly not so much furious as... amused? The thief laughed, "Hurt him? Why would I do that? Hemset's done nothing against me."
Solum tilted his head slightly, "I think you're mistaken Princess, Malum would never let me be killed." "Although I did give her the impression" Malum admitted. Solum shrugged, "Wouldn't be the first time. Won't be the last" He seemed strangely alright with that. These two had a very odd relationship. Malum nodded in agreement, "Now, dear brother, may I please be allowed to leave this pathetic abode?" "Finish your lamb" Solum ordered, "Then we can go take this young woman to Frodan." Malum smirked a little, "... you know... she never did make me give my word." he commented thoughtfully. |
Asima cried out in anger, poking Malum's arm. "You told me 'Solum may be sentimental but I am not' even when I told you I had him and would hand him to Nemiah, you did nothing, so don't pull that! And you said you would, that is giving your word!" She fell silent then, staring at the wall. Malum was back, because of her. She'd be put to death if Malum did go back on what he said. She hated this feeling, knowing her life was currently in his hands. "And what do you intend to do with Set, then?" She asked softly, still looking at the wall.
|
"Actually, the rules are very clear. If I don't specifically say that I give my word, then I haven't" Malum smirked, "it isn't my fault you-"
"We're following through with the deal." Solum stated firmly. Malum rolled his eyes, "Sol-" "No." the twins began to stare each other down. Solum was firm in his dicision however, "She's been through enough, now either you give your word, or I will." "You expect me to give them a month!?" Malum protested, "A full cycle of the moon-you want me dead!" he exclaimed indignantly. "You came up with it" Solum shrugged in return. Malum scoffed, "I wasn't exactly in my right mind!" "Well maybe next time you're in such trouble, you'll learn your lesson then" Solum crossed his arms, "Now swear to it." Malum's glare could melt metal as he fell silent. Solum simply gave him a look in return before the King finally spat it out, "I swear." "To...?" Solum prompted "I swear to uphold our deal." Malum replied through clenched teeth. "You are too sentimental" he added spitefully. "Well one of us has to be" Solum replied. |
Her eyes fluttered to Solum, giving him a tiny smile and a nod of thanks. "What are you wanting with Set?" Asima repeated, moving to the vanity mirror, selecting two leashes from the various ones located there.
|
"I think I've humored you enough" Malum growled, grabbing one last bite of lamb before turning towards the door, "Let's go."
Solum sighed as he pulled his hood back up over his head, mumbling more to himself than anyone, "I pity the man who crosses him tonight..." it seemed neither was going to answer Asima's question once again. |
Asima huffed, clearly not pleased. However, this was to be her life now. She wouldn't be able to use her title to have things her way. After a moment, she tugged on her cloak, moving out of the room. The pups were leashed, before Asima returned to the males, the bag in her other hand. "How are we going there?" She asked, glancing around, unsure if magick or horses were needed.
|
Malum just gave her a look, then turned to his brother, "Solum, why don't you look out for the little princess? I have better things to do that make sure the little brat doesn't get killed along the way."
Solum rolled his hidden eyes, ignoring his brother's snarky comments as the kinder one turned to Asima, "We walk" he explained, "it's a bit of a trek but nothing we haven't done many times before. You'll be fine." |
The princess glared at Malum, muttering to herself. "Stupid girl, fantasing about that!"
Though Solum's words set in, and Asima straightened. "W-walk? All the way? T-that..." She sputtered a bit, before lifting her chin. She'd show Malum. "Fine! I can do it, no problem!" After a tiny silence, she added, "How far is it? Will it take long?" |
Solum just smiled, "Don't worry about it." he replied gently. Malum walked out the door and Solum gestured kindly for Asima to go before himself.
|
Asima followed, the pups lagging behind her as she trotted to keep up with Malum. After a moment, she spoke, trying to engage Malum in conversation. "What is Frodan like? I-is it really dangerous, with all of your people there?" She wasn't trying to be rude, but naturally, living in a palace, she assumed all of them would be as cold and heartless as Malum appeared to her.
|
Malum rolled his eyes, "You're an idiot" he state flatly, not going any further with her question. He didn't want to talk to the princess, quite frankly he didn't even want to acknowledge her existence at the moment.
So of course, Solum stepped in, "Frodan is a sanctuary" he explained, "Every one of us has taken an oath to protect and care for this place. The rules are very clear, no one is allowed to kill anyone else-well, except in the designated fighting ring. Basically, Frodan enforces fair play." |
Asima stuck her tounge out at Malum's back. This done, she responded to Solum with a tiny snort, "It's a bunch of murderers and theieves. I don't hold a high opinion of them. I assume they will all be like your brother, and the streets flow with blood, ne?"
When she turned her attention back to Malum, it was to speak further. "I haven't done any-well, I haven't done anything to you I haven't fized, and you were the one talking of placing me on the throne! Before you were lewd, and wanted us dead, but you weren't rude." She gave a snort, "No wonder Set didn't want to stay true to you. Look how you act!" |
Malum turned back towards Asima sharply, before Solum could even respond. "You, Princess, are getting on my nerves. I may have to take you to Frodan, and I may have to give your stupid brother a month of peace, but that doesn't start until tomorrow, and we made no arrangement of the condition you would be in upon arriving." he glared, stepping towards her menacingly, "Now. I have just spent a month of my life in hell, lost an unexpected week of ruling my own kingdom, and I only have until tomorrow to organize the next month to avoid as many casualties as possible. So, Princess, you'll have to excuse me if I'm not in my best mood right now. I suggest you promptly shut your trap if you want to have any sort of half-pleasant in Frodan from here on out because you're entering my domain."
|
As soon as Malum had moved towards her, Asima's hand had moved into her clothes, drawing the dagger and pressing it against Malum's stomach, hissing quietly. "I don't expect to have a good life from here on out anyway, so don't think of threatening me that way. As for my life-don't threaten me with that either. If I stay, I am dead, if I go, I don't know what awaits me. You may be doing me a favor. Your domain is riddled with murderers and plunderers, and after talking with you like this, how can you not expect me to look down on them? Now step away from me, and keep your deal." She gave a tiny smirk, though she tried to hide it. "Besides, you have had plenty of times to kill me before."
|
Malum's eyes narrowed dangerously, "I am the King of Thieves. Put that damned foolish knife away before I remove your ability to use it." his voice was a growl, his fingers itching to strangle her but he was, for some reason, holding back for now.
|
Asima obeyed, though her eyes pointed out her tiny truimph. She pushed past Malum then, both the pups sniffing at Malum curiously, before following their mistress. "Now, really. What is Frodan like?" Asima asked once more-clearly not going to make this easy for Malum
|
"I, um, already told you" Solum replied, looking at his brother warily, "We have a very strict code that we live by. Any criminal who wants to get anywhere in life has to live by it or the rest of us would deny their business and sell them out-practically a death sentence."
Malum continued walking, clearly displeased however for now Asima seemed to be getting away with it. |
Asima glanced at Solum, clearly not believing him. After a moment, she fell into thought. She walked this way for a while, before asking, "Where are some places I'd be able to get a job without any experiance?"
|
Solum looked at her, "... can you pick a pocket?" he asked, "That's about as low as you can start. If you can find someone to teach you that art, you'll be alright. There's usually some one around that's looking for a novice to work for them."
Suddenly Malum stopped, in the middle of the old street at the edge of town. It was a little ironic that the King of Thieves was the only one in this little trio who wasn't hiding who he was in the middle of the day. |
Asima stared hard at Solum. "NO! I thought it was a respectable city, from how you talk?! I mean, like normal work!" As abruptly as Malum, stopped, Asima cut her words off, glancing around. She choose not to comment on the fact he wasn't hiding himself, instead moving next to him. "Why'd you stop? You only have a day, remember, and I need to be gone soon. Nemiah will be furious!"
|
Malum abruptly shoved Asima aside, just as he took a swift side step and turn to avoid an arrow. Looking up at the top of a building the dark King just glared at the person there. "Tensk of Dendera get down here this instant!" he called the order up to the man. Malum glanced around the empty street, "And that includes everyone else who's hiding out there. Front and center!"
A few moments later people began to step out of the shadows and alley ways, just a few at first, until that few bit by bit added up to about twenty men, and one woman-all clearly criminals. One of them stepped forward uncertainly, "Are you really back Malum?" he questioned. "Of course he's back!" the man called Tensk stated, "That's why I shot at him, obviously only Malum could avoid my arrows!" Malum rolled his eyes, "Oh yes Tensk, it has nothing to do with the fact you want to be King and your aim stinks more than rotten camel breath." The others cracked a grin before Malum continued, "So, before anyone else gets back to trying to kill me, I think it's pretty clear I'm just as good as ever. Don't waste your time, you're better off getting your affairs in order today. As of tomorrow the war against the Pharaoh is on hold, for one full cycle of the moon. You know what that means" by the collective protests it was clear they did, but Malum silenced them with a look. "Just to be clear. No fighting, no killing, no under the table dealing, wheeling, stealing, or anything of the sort-well, outside our own people anyway. None of you may run off into your little hiding places until you have informed twenty others of this, individually. I want everyone to be ready." he sighed, glancing back at Asima briefly, "Oh yes. And that's the Princess Asima. My only order regarding that, is not to kill her... yet." The thieves glanced each other, no one was completely certain what to make of this information. One spoke up again, "What the hell happened Malum? A month will-" "I know what I'm doing, if anyone would like to challenge me on it, feel free to do so now" Malum snapped, "If not, I suggest you get going and count yourselves lucky to be the most forewarned." |
Asima had pressed closer to Malum as the different people began emerging. She trembled slightly. Had she really thought of joining this world? Her eyes flickered in the direction they'd come, only to snap back when Malum named her. She let out a gasp, almost moaning in despair. The ass!
And she hadn't missed how Malum had stated yet, or only stated not to kill her. Eyeing the male who'd shot at Malum: Tensk. There were a lot worse things than death. "What have you done?" She hissed softly, not speaking directly to Malum. Some thanks he gave for bringing her back-not that she should of expected any. Asima spoke up then, lifting her chin. "Do you really have that much pride, Malum, that you can't admit to your own people that a Princess saved you? Hm, and here I was thinking so much better of you." Her tone was slightly sarcastic, and almost sickening sweet. After a tiny moment where she stepped closer still to Malum, eyeing the people around her with distaste, she added softer, almost pleadingly, "When do we leave for Frodan? I just want to remind you of the time situation...." |
Malum turned on Asima, "Yes, Princess, you lucked out and got the better of me. I never denied it, and I never will. Truth is truth after all. Just as it is true that you never gave a time limit on when I should take you to Frodan. I could wait years if I so choose, you should grant yourself lucky that I'm heading there now anyway. If you would like to get there sooner, then maybe you should start having a little respect towards the man leading you there. you're in a hurry I am not."
