"Well," Asima began, moving next to her brother, sitting on his bed gently, still unsure how he would react. "Malum killed his father, on accident. That's how he became the king. Keg wants to kill him for that, but he also wants the power, so I've been told. He was rather charming when he speaks to me, though. And I believed him..." She paused, shaking her head, "But, anyway. I have no idea how he has managed to keep a low profile. I know he has others do a lot of work for him...And I honestly don't know how he got to your adviser. If think Malum will take care... Well, I think Malum would take care of him, but, well, yes...I think Keg would be a much safer bet than Malum. He doesn't seem as...lethal, I suppose is the word I am looking for." |
Nemiah continued to stare at the ceiling in thought, "... So then... with Malum taken care of, Keg should be easy... considering I've never heard of him before now, how good can he be then?" he nodded, then sat up, "Alright Asima... if you can help me get Malum, then I'm sure I can bring you back home" he smiled at her, "where you belong."
Asima threw her arms around her brother, hugging him tightly. "Thank you, Nemiah! I've missed you so much! But, I've seen so much, too. I even got a job!" The female told him proudly, as she let go. She sobered quickly, though, glancing at the ground. Hopefully Malum wouldn't get tortured, maybe for the information to Frodan. "I told you...h-he's asleep, at my house. I left him there to come and see you." |
Nemiah hugged her back when she did so, letting her go again almost reluctantly. "I never wanted to make you leave, but I hadn't seen much other choice at the time. Still, it's good to have you back sister." he sighed, "I'll send the guard out immediately, Lakar to. Malum's tricky, we'll have to get him quick."
Asima nodded slowly, glancing away and tasting bile in her throat. Even if this was all pretend, it still hurt to decieve her brother, and it hurt to think of betraying the male. "I didn't mean to leave you with all this on your own, either. I was just afraid...I thought since you made me leave, you'd be able to sentence me to death. D...do you really think I'm a whore and a hypocrite, brother?" |
Nemiah hesitated, "... I'm not exactly proud of what you've told me you did... but it's clear that you're different now." he stood, "and I hope you've changed for the better... seem to have anyway" he gave a smile, "now common, let's go catch the King of Thieves"
Asima flinched inwardly. She wasn't any better than those type of people. Quickly, hoping to cover her hesitation, Asima gave her brother a smile, standing next to him. "Yes, let's get Malum. I have changed a lot, hm? You've changed so much...I almost didn't reconize you before!" The princess half teased her brother gently. |
"Hm" Nemiah began leading the way out of his room, "perspective changes... I always thought I had so much time before having to take all this on... now I've realized just how short life can be. I'm not going to let it slip away, I'm going to use every minute of it towards a better future." it wasn't long before he found a guard, "gather the soldiers and alert Lakar. We're going after Malum."
The princess fell silent, glancing away. She was contemplating the own changes that had happened with her. Was she building towards a better future, or was she tearing it apart. As Nemiah spoke to the guards, Asima tugged her cloak tighter around her. If felt uncomfortable, being around the royal guards after being away for so long. |
After they took off Nemiah turned back to Asima, "Well they can take care of that then. You, can get out of those clothes if you like" he smiled, gesturing towards her room, "No one's touched it"
Asima nodded to her brother, glancing down at her dirty dress. She'd gotten used to this...How strange. "C-could I spend some time with you, when I'm done changing? I know it's late, but we do have a lot of catching up to do..." |
"Of course" Nemiah smiled, "I would like to know what you've gone through. I imagine it's been quite a lot"
The female burst into a smile then, nodding quickly. She rushed off, changing into one of her prettier dresses, having her hair done. Soon, Asima left her room, moving to check Nemiah's chambers quickly. She knocked on the door gently, waiting for a response. It was no lie, she'd missed her brother, and wanted to know how he was settling into his new life. |
"Come in" Nemiah called. He had had supper brought to his room for the both of them and was just getting himself a drink when she knocked. He looked up and smiled when she came in, "Have a seat, I'm sure we have plenty to talk about."
Asima grinned at her brother, before plopping into the seat that was offered. "You first, Nemiah. How are you doing?" |
"I'm alright" he replied, taking a sip of his drink, "things are going pretty well considering, actually."
"Considering?" Asima questioned, tilting her head a bit, "Considering what? You've had a month free of crime haven't you?" |
"Yes, but now that's over" Nemiah replied, his gaze straying to the side, "that month was more or less my first month as pharaoh. I had no experience previously so honestly, I have no clue how I've been doing. I don't know if everything I've done was the right thing to do, especially now that I've found out one of my advisors has been trying to manipulate me the whole month through. In the next while, with everything steadily returning the way it was, I'm about to find out if what I did was even the right thing... or... if I've just made the biggest mistakes of my life." he hesitated, then cleared his throat and smiled a bit again, "So yes, I'm doing pretty well, considering."
The princess listened quietly, puzzled. "Well...what do you mean? What did you do that could be so bad, Nemiah?" |
Nemiah frowned, "I'd rather not talk about that Asima. I would like to hear about you in this past month actually"
Asima frowned at her brother, thinking. "Nemiah...if it's as bad as you say, don't you think I should know? I'm home now, so I am a part of your choices and life once more..." |
"another time" Nemiah shook his head, "I don't want to talk about that right now, please Asima, just drop it"
Giving a tiny sigh, the princess gave up. Something she'd learned from Malum: A man would never tell her what was on his mind if they didn't want her to know, no matter how much she begged. "Well...I walked across the desert. It was horrible. Defiantly suggest horseback, or just any other method. Hm, Oh! I got a job with a baker! And I paid an pub owner every week to live above the tavern. I had to sell my dogs...I couldn't afford to have them taken care of while I was traveling. OH! I met a slave girl. Only, she wasn't what father said at all." Asima frowned, though she paused, waiting for any commentary her brother may like to throw in. |
Nemiah looked at her curiously, "you actually spoke to a slave?" he questioned, "why would you do that?
Asima flushed and glanced away. "S-she was one of Malum's harem girls. She was actually very nice, until Uh, I told her she wasn't human. Then she was very angry with me..." |
