"Dinner?" She questioned as she followed, staying a few feet away just in case. "But what do demons eat?"
Annet smiled. "Human souls." She cackled, "I'm just kidding. I'm actually kind of partial to tacos, but tonight I feel like making stirfry. Jin... will probably go hunt down a small child for me to cook. He complains about human food to no end, but he still eats it."
The initial answer scared Carol have to death, and she stared at the woman in wide-eyed fear. "That wasn't funny." she said softly, trying to get the terrifying images out her head.
"Calm down, you've got too many fantasies running around in your head." She pointed out as she leared the smoke and lead them outside. The shop was in a small town full of demons, most of which seemed busy rushing around with thier lives, and not the least bit iterested in them. "Oh, the spell that hides you from Angels also hides your humanity from most demons. They'll think you're a demon as well, and thus hopefully won't attack."
"I'd make a terrible demon," she commented, sticking close to Jin as he was the only one she knew for sure wouldn't tear her to pieces. "This place is really freaky...And what do you mean 'hopefully'?" She suddenly looked very scared and clung tighter to him, biting her lower lip anxiously.
"Carol, relax. I'm the head of every war effort hell has to offer. You're safe with me ironically enough. Besides, most of these demons are terrified of Annet. She'd dice them up at a weird look."
"I'm not that mean Jin." She pouted. "They'd have to at least throw a punch." She led them to a large mansion on the edge of town. "This is my home." She said brightly. |
"I don't feel very safe," she muttered. "It's your fault I'm here at all."
When they reached Annet's house, her eyes widened. "What are you, like the queen or something?" She smiled slightly and mused, "A serpent and a black widow..." |
"Are you refering to my brother and I?" She asked with a small grin. "The descriptions do fit I suppose." She put a hand on a metal plate and the large gears that made a gate parted and a small sleek cart rattled up to them. "Get in, both of you." She offered, the cart only large enough for two.
"Sister?" She questioned, looking up at him. "You said she was a friend...I really need to stop being so surprised that you lie so much."
She looked at Annet. "What about you? Where are you going?" |
"Same place you are." She said, her mechanical legs easily keeping up with the cart. "I am his friend, and I always will be. Blood relation just happens to be there as well. We were human once too you know."
"If he acted the same as a human that he does now, I can understand perfectly why he went to hell." She moved as far away from him as she could (which wasn't far in the small space), having no reason to be near him anymore and not particularly wanting to be.
"Actually, I was a pretty decent human. Until some guy offed my sister." Jin said with a small shrug. "Good and bad are only labels. Heaven and hell are seperated more by personality. Hell just tends to attract less well liked people."
She was silent for a few moments, then asked him, "Do you know what I was before I became a minister?"
"How would I know something like that?"
"You're supernatural. You're supposed to know everything about me." She placed her hand thoughtfully to her cheek and said, "Before I joined the church, I was a dancer, at a strip club in the city. I didn't strip, obviously, but with the clothes I wore there wasn't much need."
"But being a stripper doesn't make you a hell bound whore. Technically, it's dancing, and a form of art, the intent a bit vulgar by human standards, but no one's sent to hell for being a stripper." Annet pointed out. "Our decisions, our way of living, the choices we would make if it came down to the line, that's more what determins it."
"I never said it did. But the whole thing felt...disgusting." She shook her head. "Why would anyone want to do things like that? I only did it because we needed the money." She sighed.
"I think it's fun to dance like that. You get all kinds of attention just to crush their hopes, and you get money too. I'd hate it if I had to do it though."
"Annet, be careful." Jin said, sounding a bit more alert. "I'm not a stripper Jin, don't..." "No, not that... that." He pointed at a silhouetted form. "What did you do to get an angel after you?" "Oh.. that's..." She hit a button on the cart and it lurched as it gained speed. "And unhappy customer. He caused a stir in my shop so I sent him faulty equipment. I figured he would have noticed sooner, but oh well. Don't worry about it, he's weak, a newbie and a hot head. He won't last long in his rank." She fell back as the figure grew closer. "Carol, you're welcome to watch, it should be an interesting fight, but if that thing comes this way duck down and close your eyes." The angel was a beautiful man will full white wings and light silver armor over white robes. He landd a few yards from Annet and they exchanged a few words before he threw what looked like a sword to the ground, his voice rising. |
Carol's eyes widened. "Wow..." she breathed. "That's an angel?" He was nothing like she'd ever imagined them to be (much angier and rougher) but she still found the sight spectacular.
After a few quick glances between Jin and the new presence, she added, "He's much more impressive than you, you know." Looking back at the heavenly form, she asked, "What if he does happen to notice me?" She still wasn't exactly sure how this all worked, but she was pretty sure that would be bad. |
"He'd probably kill you on the spot. And he isn't terribly impressive, just watch."
Annet didn't move a muscle, but instead four of the eight mechanical legs shot up. In a flurry that was diffigult to see she blocked two attacks, then skeward the angel, holding him in midair. She placed her hands on the metal, pulling herself up out of the contraption. Her legs looked weak and frail, but she was able to move them, She moved around behinf the angel, caressing his wings with her long nails before tearing one off with a fuid motion. The Angel screamed, an unearthly sound that rung out ovet the city as the wing turned to ash. Annet grinned and tore off the second wing, listening to the second scream as if it were music. She hopped back into the mechanical leg contraption and with a loud 'shink' she let her pray fall. the angel crumpled crying and moaning. "Annet's legs have always been unusually weak, that's why she began building. Mechanics make up for what she lacks." |
Carol's hands were clasped over her mouth as she stared on in horror. Tears welled up in her eyes, the man's scream echoing in her ears. It took every ounce of her will not to jump out and run to him. Instead, she squeezed her eyes shut and muttered, "I want to leave. Now." These people--these monsters--were terrible; she wanted nothing to do with any of them. She couldn't believe she'd thought even for a second that beast might have had any shred of decency, couldn't believe she'd let that thing touch her.
"Calm down, if she hadn't done that he'd have killed her. As it is, a layer of skin has already sealed the wounds, and he'll take about a month to grow a new set of wings. The metal is percise, she didn't hit any vitals. In about a month he'll be just as fine." He pointed out.
"Oh... she doesn't trust me now does she... humans are so niave. Let her learn Jin. Carol, go ahead. Go to him, try and help him. I promise you it won't go well, but all you need to do is ask for help and I'll step in and save you." She said smoothly. "Go on, since you seem so sure of yourself." |
Anger welled up in her stomach and she glared at the woman. "I never trusted you to begin with! And I want to leave, now!" She then rounded on Jin. "Do you plan to do something like that to me when I upset you? It's fine as long as you don't 'hit any vitals'?!" She was tired of all this, and was near her breaking point. This was just too much to deal with at once.
"Of course not, even if you tried to kill me, you couldn't." He pointed out. "Please calm down, you've been through a lot. Come inside and lie down for a while, if you want you can eat something. Then I'll take you home. Alright?" He said softly as he stepped out of the cart.
"You should, I'm one person that will never hurt you." She said with a small laugh. |
She sighed. Obviously she wasn't going to get him to take her home immediately, and so she reluctantly climbed out and followed him in, grumbling unhappily the whole way. Just wanna go home...Forget this ever happened...
