Here's the thread and my post^^
*** Walking home from the store was a young man about 18 carrying two bags of equal weight, one bag had one liter of soda, bacon, and three apples. The other one had a gallon of milk and one exact pound of Swiss cheese and turkey. His name was Dexter B. Cain and he was a mathematical genius. Ever since he was a small child his parents knew that he was above average in intelligence. At first people thought that this special talent would get to Dexter's head, but as a matter of fact, he's a shy soft spoken boy who doesn't really like all the attention. He often mutters problems to himself before calling out the answer. He stopped at the corner, and one of his shoping bags broke."Damn..."He muttered. Then he bent down and picked up the soda, bacon and apples. |
Tristan Blaine looked like your average highschool hottie with a rebelous side. Infact, though, he hardly talked to anyone, finding solice in playing his music and writing songs. He just moved to this new town to start college, but left the unbacking to his bandmates since they had been whining about being hungry. Trudging down the street, he was at the corner getting ready to turn when the sound of paper tearing caught his attention, followed my a softly muttered curse. Turning around, he sighed when his dark eyes looked over at the boy, scrambling to pick up his purchased items. Swiftly approaching, he kneeled next to the boy, grabbing an apple that was trying to make it's escape out into trafic. Blowing on it, he held it under the boy's nose.
"I take it this is your's," he said, his voice rich and calming, a hint of a teasing tone to his words as he gave the boy a slight smile. |
The sight of Tristan scared him a little."Y-yeah..."He said meakly. He then took the apple, and placed it in the now heavy bag.Dexter then stood up."T-thank you."He said holding the one bag to his chest now. Then he looked around and asked."Do-do you know what time it is?"If it's about 1:30 then I've already used up at least three minutes of walking time...He thought cursing himself.
Tristan stood up as well, pulling back the cuff of his shirt and looking at his watch. "It's 3:26" He paused after he said then. "Oh wait, two hour time difference, so it's 1:26" He sais, dropping his arm and looking at the boy's heavy load. "Would you like some help with that?" He asked, raising a brow in question.
Dexter ignored the question and muttered something. After a few seconds he smiled."Ha!I'm not going to mess up my schedule."He then realized that Tristan was there."Oh!Sorry...um....sure."He said.
Tristan nodded and took the bag from he younger male. He looked around, waiting for the boy to start leading the way. Licking his lips and looking around, he decided that was the time to introduce himself. "I'm Tristan."
"I'm Dexter, and I live this way."He the pointed north."Follow me."Dexter stated before he started walking.
Tristan followed obediently, trying to think of something to talk about to destroy the deafening silence growing between them. "So, how long have you lived here?" He asked, shifting the bag so he had a better hold.
"My entire life."Dexter said. They came up a few houses from his house when Dexter said."Oh!My parents don't know how to act infront of new people, so they might ask me a question,so please don't pay attention to that, please...."He said with a sheepish look."The always do that when I come home, thinking that their trying to surprise me...."He added sighing.
Nodding his understanding. Shifting the back once again, he followed the boy up to the door, waiting for him to open it and unveil his parents. "There really wouldn't be much for me to say if I did talk to your parents," he stated.
Dexter chuckled nervously, as they reached the house."Sorry...."He said ahead of time, as he walked up to his front door. Then he placed his key inside the door, and turned it only once, before the door flew open."Welcome home!"His parents cried.
Dexter was nearly on the ground."Mom....dad....please don't do that..."He stated embrassed. |
Tristan couldn't help the small chuckle that rumbled in his throat melodiously, lifting his hand to hide his upturned lips. Adjusting his load one last time before clearing his throat, he raised an eyebrow in question as he pointed at the bundle of groceries. "What would you like me to do with this?"
He stood up quickly."Um...follow me.I have my own fridge upstairs..."Dexter then quickly walked away from his parents and headed for the stairs.A blush lightly colored his face."Sorry...."He stated sheepishly.
Tristan nodded, not saying a word as he put the bag on the bed. Sighing he looked around, admiring the items and what not, placed around the room before his gaze settled back on the younger male. There was a lasting silence between them before his cellphone started to ring noisily from it's hiding place in his pocket. Pulling it out, he flipped it open and pressed it to his ear.
"Hey Derrik... No, I was distracted... I'll be back in a little while... okay, bye." He paused ever few seconds to listen to the other person speak before pushing it closed with a small click. Turning around, he eyed the boy again. "Sorry about that, my band mate Derrik, was calling to see where I was." Taking one long look around the room before looking into Dexter's eyes and speaking. "So, since I'm new to this town, would you mind showing me around a little?" |
Dexter took the bag,and walked over to his desk."Sure.I'll be happy to."He said as he placed the bag on the desk, and pulled out a cooler from underneath it."My frige broke, and so I'm using this to keep meats and dairys cold."He stated placed those objects in the box. Then he closed it and pushed it back underneath."What kinda music does your band play?"He asked standing.
Tristan shrugged, "Good music." Was all he said before looking around again then plopping down on the bed where the bag had previously been. Sighing heavily before watching the younger male with calculating dark eyes. "You can always stop by during practice or come to one of our giggs and listen to us play." Leaning back on his hands, he relaxed a little bit, or as much as anyone could in a complete stranger's house.
"Really?"He asked looking at him."A-are you sure that your band members wouldn't mind?"Dexter finished. He was never offered to go with anyone, anywhere really."Where do you live?"He then asked nervously. If Tristan lived even a block away from the town, that wouldn't be good.
"Nah, they wouldn't care, they always like showing off." He said in response to Dexter's first question. He rubbed his temple in thought before answering, "I live a few blocks from where we met. I was actually on my way to the grocery store to buy some stuff to eat." Sitting back up and running his fingers through his shaggy hair as he spoke. he stood up and turned around the room one last time before locking eyes with the other male. "I really should get going, so can we put this bus in gear and hit the road?"
"Sure."Dexter said standing."I have nothing much to do anyway."He added.Dexter walked over to the door.He poked his head out just incase his parents might want to ambush him with random questions. Once the coast was cleared he headed outside and down the stairs.
Tristan followed without a word. As they stepped out into the crisp clean air, he inhaled deeply through his nose and stretched. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he began their trek around town. "I'm thinking we should probably go to the store first and then back to my place before we get too lost. That way I'm not getting calls from the guys." He said, beginning to walk in the direction where he remembered they met.
"Okay."Dexter stated."So what kind of music does your band play?"He asked. He liked music, and not the classical either. Unlike what people think that genuis listen to the classical stuff like Beetoven, but not him. He's like some modern and some retro.
His lips tilted up in a smirk. "I thought I told you already.,": he said, shaking his head in playful disappointment. "I told you, I play good music." Smirking, he lifted a hand and ruffled the boy's hair. "Maybe you should start cleaning out your ears." Tristan teased.
"But that doesn't help."Dexter said pouting playfully."I meant type of music."He corrected. They reached the end of the block, and the store was in site."This store has good pricing."He said smiling."Nice easy numbers to work with."Dexter added shortly, outloud by mistake.
Tristan smirked, "Well why don't we make it a suprise." He eyed to store for a moment then looked back to the younger male. "Numbers? I take it you like math?" He aked with a raised eyebrow as they walked into the store. Quickly he fished his list out of his pocket and unfolded it as he grabbed a basket and started to look around.
"Nope."Dexter stated chuckling."Math irritates me to no end.I just can do problems in my head.Numbers that have twos fives and zeros at the end of them are easy to work with anything else makes me paused for a minute, when normally I can get an answer out in ten seconds."He said.
