Ninjas of the Midnight Moon - Accepting People (OPEN)

~Story~
The year is 1537, and it is a tumultuous time in Japan. The land is rife with strife as wars raged between the many daimyos (feudal lords) struggling to expand their territories and conquer each other in what would later come to be known as the Warring States Era. During this time, some ninja clans are growing in power as open battle isn't always the best option, and activities such as espionage and assassination are needed but forbidden by the samurai code. While some clans are relatively loyal to certain lords, some choose to sell their services to anyone who needed and could afford them. The Midnight Moon Ninjas is one of these clans.
Based mainly in southern Japan, their main client is the Mouri clan of the western Chuugoku region, although they just as frequently accept missions from other families. As daimyo families, both small and large, famous and unknown, rise and fall in the chaos, ninjas and samurai fight for their own version of a greater destiny. Carve your own path through the discord and etch your name in the annals of history.

~Explanation~
In hopes of trying something a little different, aside from the usual story progression of an RP, there will be secret missions PMed to ninja characters requiring them to involve another character in their mission without revealing their mission objective. Since the two characters involved will be chosen at random, it is hoped that this will increase player interaction.
Admittedly, this was created mainly for the purpose of the Treasure Hunt game, however, I will continue to run it if I like how it goes and/or get enough involvement.
You can play random ninjas, samurais or daimyos, as well as famous historical characters. However, for the last, I expect a reasonable level of background knowledge. For example, I will never ask you how the climate was around Ueda Castle in the 16th century, but I WILL flay you alive if you mention anything about Chousokabe Motochika having a castle in Hokkaido. So yes, take your liberties, but don't be ridiculous.
The point of this RP is for all players to have a lot of freedom. Ninjas will receive missions, both group and individual. Samurais/daimyos are welcome not only to interact and fight with each other (and the ninjas if need be) but solicit ninja services to have each other assassinated, although that might not always be terribly successful. The circumstances in which any of these happen are entirely up to the player. So have fun, play nice, and most of all, play with each other. <3

~Rules~
1. Please READ THE FOLLOWING THOROUGHLY.
2. Please read and abide by Menewsha's Terms of Service and Roleplaying Forum Rules. If you choose not to, I take no responsibility for your actions and any repercussions that might ensue from them.
3. Please be at least semi-literate. While typos and the occasional mistake are perfectly understandable, all players need to be able to understand each other in coherent English. This also means:
a) You do NOT typ lyk dis.
b) 1337 15 |\|01 \/\/37(0|\/|3 (netspeak/leet is not welcome).
c) Any foreign language text shall be followed by a translation in brackets directly after or in the post-script or footnotes. Names (and weapon names) are an exception, of course. You may choose not to translate names of attacks as long as you explain what they do or how they work in the post.
4. Since I, Luenola Marxiel, am the GM and I run this RP, I expect you to respect my decisions. I will listen to constructive comments and suggestions, but rude complaints will not be entertained.
5. NO GOD-MODING. The limitations of each character type are in the following post.
6. Please PM me your character profiles. Do NOT post them here.
7. OOC chat is allowed between brackets. However, if you're going to have an OOC discussion that either does not pertain to the RP or is very long, please take it elsewhere. I will make an OOC thread if requested by at least 3 players.
8. Please post at least once a week.
9. All posts must be in third person perspective and be at least a paragraph in length. One sentence is NOT a valid RP post.

That's all for rules at this time. More will be added should the need arise. Please have fun!

~Character Creation~

Ninjas
Your standard abilities are stealth, martial arts and mastery of whatever weapon you choose.
Your specialty skill can be anything you like, such as illusions, element control or familiars, etc. Take it right out of Naruto if you will. Just remember: NO GOD-MODING. You can only choose one, so choose wisely. No two characters can have exactly the same one, so it shall be handled on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Your background section in the profile code must be LIMITED TO 5 lines. A ninja's background isn't supposed to be well-known. You're welcome to have it, but we don't need to know it in the profile.
Samurai/Daimyo
The main difference between the two is simply that a daimyo owns land and has a proper family crest, much like western nobility. Therefore, playing one of these characters means you need to at least describe your crest and state roughly which part of Japan you own land in in the Extra section.
Background must be AT LEAST 5 lines. Noble families are proud of their lineage. You know what to do.
Samurais are exempt from the above two requirements, of course.
Standard abilities are martial arts, archery, horse-riding and weapon of choice mastery.
Specialty skill can be any kind of sword/weapon technique. You're welcome to venture into fantasy as long as it's still a weapon technique and it doesn't do everything under the sun (no god-moding, I repeat).
Historical Characters
The same guidelines for daimyo characters apply, since the majority of these are famous daimyos (if you want to play a famous ninja, follow the ninja guidelines, of course). However, you are expected to do your research and know the character you're playing. While personality accuracy is hard to determine, you do need to know famous trivia about them (such as Uesugi Kenshin's remarkable ability to hold his alcohol, for example) and who their allies and enemies were at different points in time, etc.
For the most part, use your imagination, but please be sensible about this.

As I was mentioning earlier, every now and then, a character will be given the opportunity to take a secret mission that s/he must involve another character in without telling said other character the mission objective. The reward for completing a certain number of missions will be an additional specialty skill slot or perhaps another weapon slot. This will not be completely random, since it's "fairer" to reward participation. The more group missions a player actively participates in, the higher his/her chances are of receiving a solo mission. In real life, this makes sense, since you're more likely to be trusted to do things alone if you often do it actively in a group.
The basic mechanics can be illustrated in the following example... Say, for instance, that your mission objective was to assassinate a certain samurai in his house. However, as part of the mission, you need to get player A to sneak into his office or personal library to steal a document for you. Of course, there will be a time limit. In this case, it is a week. Within a week, you need your character to make player A type in his RP post that his/her character went to steal said document in the man's house without ever telling him/her that you're going there to assassinate the same man. If you succeed, you gain 2 points. However, even if you don't manage to convince the other player to help you, the mission you received is still a mission that should be completed. So you'll gain 1 point anyway for completing the main objective. After maybe 15 points (this is just a random number; I'll set it later depending on how fast things go), you'll get to choose either another skill slot or another weapon slot.

Username: Luenola Marxiel
Character Name: Yowa Mitsuyori
Age: Late 20s (specific number unknown)
Weapon: Emei piercer, poisoned kunai
Profession: Ninja (Clan Leader)
Specialty skill: The Yowa Secret Technique of Illusion/Disguise (he's a master of making people see what he wants them to see, and only very strong minds are able to break free of his masterfully woven daydreams)
Physical appearance: Always changes so no one knows his real appearance. However, he is often seen with black shoulder-length hair wearing a colourful Noh mask and white kimono.
Personality: Rather quiet and reserved. Serious. Polite, even when being snide or insulting. Not terribly fond of social contact, but keeps up a charming appearance when meeting with clients. Always knows a lot more than he's telling and quite willing to annoyingly let people sense as much. Has great difficulty trusting others. His whereabouts aren't always known.
Background: Mitsuyori comes from the Yowa clan that has produced many of the Midnight Moon's clan leaders. He took over the position two years ago when the former clan head died due to illness. Within the last two years, the number of missions the clan has received has increased, and their village has generally prospered, but some clan members have difficulty trusting him because far too little is known about him, and he has always been quite socially reclusive. Moreover, he belongs to a branch family that was once known for demon worship and many outlandish rumours are spread about him.
Extra: The symbol of the Yowa family is a black, blue and white Noh mask.

Specialty skill: He has the unique ability to summon a variety of animal-like familiars. The one he summons most takes the form of a dragon.
Physical appearance: He has long white waist-length hair with hardly noticeable streaks of black. When on a mission, he wears it in a ponytail. Otherwise, it's usually down. Bright dark blue eyes. And a scar that starts at the end of his cheek and runs down all the way to the middle of his belly. He usually wears white trousers and a white vest, he also wounds bandages around his arms and feet. When on a mission, he also wears a medical face mask.
Personality: Cool and dependable, he has leader potential, but he likes to be loner. He may hide it, but he's quite a benevolent person at heart.
Background: He was actually born in Iceland, but, at a young age, was brought to Japan by his father (who's Japanese) to be taught the arts of the ninja. His father is part of the Midnight Moon Ninjas and he is one of them as well. He aims to be one of the most elite ninjas.
Extra: Hope that's all good.. :XD

Profession: Ninja
Specialty skill: Can control the element fire
Physical appearance: It will change every so often when he gets bored with his appearance. But his eyes always stay the same, a cold pure green colour. Currently his hair is black and although it isn't shoulder length it's close to. His hair's straight with the odd curl and almost feathery in appearance. His attire is often all black with a black mask to cover the lower half of his face. Occasionally he'll tie a black ribbon around his forhead as well. He has a long scar across his chest due to an unknown circumstance.
Personality: Like the element he can manipulate and at times create, he has a high energy level. It takes a lot to take down Kichiro, but one of his fatal flaws is his temper. He can often loose it quite swiftly although each temper flare can vanish as quickly as it rises. He's quiet otherwise, prefering to watch and listen on the sidelines before shooting in to attack. Although he doesn't always act it, he is fairly intelligent and it's hard to find him without a cold smirk on his face, if it's not concealed by his mask.
Background: Kichiro grew up on a farm. His mother still lives as does his younger sibling though their whereabouts are unknown. Not much else is known about him apart from at some point in his life he gained a long scar across his chest and was unable to fight for a year due to the injury.
Extra: Nothing else really.

It was misty that morning in the village as the some of the new recruits dressed to meet their clan leader for the first time to formally introduce themselves into service, having just completed their training. They would soon be going on their first mission, and the mission details would be received during the same meeting. The air was thick with anticipation as each wondered where their paths would lead them in life, whether they would live on to be the greatest of their clan or even their kind or fall in a mission like so many had. Only time would tell.
Meanwhile, beyond the mist-blurred boundaries of their home, the number of daimyo families had increased slightly as some samurai were awarded land for their faithful service to more powerful lords while others had been annihilated for refusing to submit. It would not be long before these families would begin to try expanding their wealth, lands and circle of influence. A new wave was rising both in the surface and within the shadows with destinies intertwined. So begins a journey where each person's choices affects the future and nothing is certain.

Mitsuyori sat in a lotus position, partly meditating and partly contemplating current affairs, in the small audience hall of his house as clan leader. It wasn't where he'd grown up in, but every clan head that had been from his family had lived in this house, and all the records of their work were also kept here. There was no reason to break sensible traditions. In addition, the house was as quiet accommodation as one could get without being miles away in the outskirts of the village and partly within the forest as his own ancestral home had been, so he didn't mind the move.

There were some new recruits coming to see him soon, and he had also volunteered to take them on their first real group mission after the completion of their training. It was a simple mission, espionage, and as long as everyone stayed hidden and unnoticed, there should be no problems. While he certainly believed in the efficacy of the village's training program, it had been a long time since he'd actually gone on group missions, having always preferred to work alone. He needed the exercise and practice as much as they needed the experience.

It won't be long now, he thought as he opened his eyes and gazed at the sun's light on the wooden floor before him.

The entrance faced east, so the rising sun often shone in and illuminated the entire room early in the morning. The beams of light didn't reach as far as he remembered them before he closed his eyes earlier. It was higher in the sky, almost the time they were scheduled to arrive. He adjusted the mask on his face and closed his eyes again, slipping back into a meditative state to wait.

Hadsvich 12-18-2008 04:06 AM

A young man wandered a dirt path in the forest nearby. He whistled an ancient tune as he walked and wondered what this day would lead him to. He could see the sunrise on the horizon through the slits of the trees and decided to stop for a little snack. As he sat upon a huge rock near him, he unwrapped a pouch that had been hanging from his trousers. In it were a few onigiris.

"What a wonderful day today is," he said as he watched the sunrise. He then grinned, "Makes me feel anxious." He chomped on one of the onigiris.

Remaro 12-18-2008 06:28 PM

A black mask covered the lower half of a young man, only his eyes and bridge of his nose visible. Of course, his eyes were enough for most ninjas of the Midnight Moon to vaguely recognise him. At least, they would normally know him as the fire breather, a small talent he enjoyed playing with on missions. The sunrise was reflected in his gaze as the man sat crouched on teh branch of a tall tree. His black clothing was stained a dull red from the glowing light. It was ritual for Kichiro to watch a sunrise as many mornings as he could, while there was still breath in his lungs.
"Beautiful as always." He whispered, one hand gripping a thinner branch above his head to keep him easily balanced on the balls of his feet.

Hadsvich 12-18-2008 10:31 PM

As soon as Hadsvich finished his onigiris, he pulled out a flask of water and chugged it down. He stared down the dirt path and then realized what time it was.

"Oh damn!" he remarked. He gathered all his things quickly and started running down the path. Continuing down the path swiftly, he could now see the village in the horizon. I can't believe I wasted my time loitering about!, he thought. But just as he thought that, he tripped over an unseen object. "Oof," he groaned as he fell to the ground. He looked up to his side where the object had come from and saw his dragon-like familiar standing before him, he had tripped over its tail. He glared at the serpentine eyes, "Really now, how come you're here when I didn't even summon you? And why in the world did you trip me, don't you realize I am needed somewhere?"

Luenola Marxiel 12-23-2008 06:42 PM

Mitsuyori looked at the angle of the sun's rays again. Outside, he could see several recruits waiting to be admitted. He counted three. It was time. He had been told five of them were coming. Two were late. He sighed.

What a bad start, he thought. I'll give them a few more minutes.

Remaro 12-23-2008 07:48 PM

Finally with a chuckle to himself, the ninja stood up from his crouch, easing pained muscles out of the awkward position. It took little time for him to dart down the branches of the tree, his feet making the slightest of noises as they hit the ground with a thud. As small dust clouds rolled up to greet his shoed feet he looked once more to the sky and sun.
"They won't be pleased, I'm late..." He commented in surprise before heading in a swift sprint down the track. As he ran he could feel the familiar weight of his two blades strapped tightly to his back, unable to swing loose lest he tugged them away himself.

Once more it didn't take Kichiro too long to arrive at the meeting place. Three others were there, already waiting. Muttering errupted between the three as he took his place on the end, but he simply ignored it. Just because he had somewhere to be, it wouldn't stop Kichiro from watching the sun rise.

Shadowedfire_Wolf 12-28-2008 10:23 AM

((I was wondering if I could maybe...instead of playing a ninja as warlord's daughter or sister?? O.o I'd still fight if you want me too))

Luenola Marxiel 12-29-2008 05:38 PM

[[I won't be terribly active until I get back to the US either, Remaro. I have too many social obligations to fulfil here.

Yes, you can play anyone in a daimyo family's household, including someone's sister, Shadowedfire. If you'd rather not fight, that's fine too. You just won't get missions like the fighting characters. Just leave the relevant parts (weapon, special skill, etc) of the profile blank when you PM me the form.

I think I'll wait for Hadsvich before I continue things.]]
