Nex eyed it for a moment more before the entirety of people began walking off in the same direction. Nex felt her squeeze his hand a bit, he squeezed her hand back tighter once, just to let her know one final time he would be here. "Its less then five minutes.... Follow me to the docking area..." He said, turning and following the rest of the group of fifteen. Explosions could now be heard from where they currently were as the air rushed up against the aircraft. Nex stopped in a small tube shapped room, everyone pressed up to the wall for some reason, Nex did the same thing, and motioned for Cara to follow. Shortly after it was confirmed that everyone was against the wall, a small hole began to slowly open in the center of the cylinder-like room. Air gushed out of the floor and pressed everyone to the wall with its immense force. Two massive clicks echoed out from below them followed by the sound of metal sliding against metal. Sylus knew that this wasn't the time, he did not respond to the 'how' coming from Jerek, it was not something he wanted to get into. He simply rode ahead using his spikes. Several massive tubes rained down from the sky from the ship, they each hit the grown and tore the earth apart doing it. At the base of the massive tubes four gates opened on all sides of them, this is where they would exit. Wolfe and Nex looked at Cara, Wolfe decided to speak up on exactly what was going on. "Alright, this part of the drop is easy, gravity will do the work for us. All you need to do is press all the limbs of your body so you are basically a speeding bullet heading toward the ground, there is a system that flips you and lands you softly before you become a stain. You got it?" He said, looking toward Cara. |
Cara bit her lip again, then nodded, following him to the next room. She was a bit nervous, especially when she saw everyone pressing themselves to the walls of the oddly shaped tube room. Nervous and extremely confused. She followed after Nex's example without questioning, questions at this point would probably just be annoying. However, she was relieved when Wolfe spoke up and explained it to her. Relieved and scared. A... stain? Taking a deep, shaky breath, she nodded and closed her eyes. She figured it would be better that way.
Xander sped ahead, stopping at the tubes. They would meet them here, so there was no need to move any further. For now. Jarek followed close behind, but he looked a bit undecided on stopping. Thoughts of running form this madness still flowed heavily through his mind, all of which caused his body to start shaking. |
Nex knew now would be the time that they would have to let go. Nex squeezed her hand one more time, then reluctantly released her grip. Another one of the 15 people in this room spoke up, "It should only take about 5 minutes.... At the count of five, we all drop. Sound good?" the group nodded in agreement, causing the man who had taken temporarily leadership to begin the countdown. Nex, Yu, Wolfe, and everyone else in the room braced themselves. "5... 4.... 3... 2... 1... Now!" The entirety of the group jumped downward, the wind rushing to their faces and their hair flowing behind them. Nex's hair was whipping a bit, but that was only due to the length.
Sylus's eyes never left the large, metal tube. He knew exactly how it was made, he knew the mechanics, he was not an idiot. He walked up to it and placed a hand on it, it had been a while since he had been near any technology that was not "IAP Certified", and if he ever was able to touch that technology, it was only on the business end of it, going through a great deal of pain and experiencing just was it was supposed to be used for. So Sylus waited, not bothering to mention not to go inside while the tube was activated, he guessed they knew that already. |
Cara bit her lips to the point of bleeding, she was really rather nervous about the whole tube landing thing. Especially during the countdown... and when she saw everyone jump out. However, she followed suit, diving out after the group. She had to fight back a scream as she looked down.. she had planned on keeping her eyes shut but she couldn't resist sneaking a peak.
Xander looked at the tube for a moment, watching Sylus as he approached it. IAP. He didn't have to get that close to figure it out. Of course, that would be an obvious for him and Jarek. He sighed, leaning back on his seat. Watching, waiting. He was rather impatient with this type of stuff. |
The group slowed down as they reached closer to the ground, the anti-gravity of the metal tube coming into a higher effect. Nex quickly turned himself so he was at his feet, everyone landing as they should, he looked up shortly after, seeing the three of them, noticing all three, but mostly paying attention to Sylus. What... What is he doing here!? He held his tongue, Yu giving him that look that it was not wise to say what was on his mind.
Cheng Yu mentioned nothing of their relation, he simply treated the three as though they were random men that were willing to assist him in his cause. "Tell me..." The others of the group poured out of the metal tubing, surrounding the two in a half circle with their rifles drawn. "You are the men who have offered to help us, no? Well, tell us how you would do that... What are your talents?" |
Cara had a bit of a clumsy landing, landing on her feet nonetheless. The was confused when all of a sudden rifles were drawn and the whole group had their attention on three men standing before them. Two of them were all too familiar. The other looked.. reptile like almost. Her eyes focused on her long time friend, and small grin appearing on her face. She was glad to see him still alive.
Xander quickly scanned the crowd, finding the only one that was woman, without rifle, who seemed to have a rather clumsy landing. Cara. He saw her grin, and couldn't help but smile. She seemed well. He then turned his attention to the man speaking, the one who's voice he had recognized, who Sylus had pointed out as his son. Seeing the man, this was hard to believe. He decided to speak up first once the man was done speaking. "Xander, sir. Former space pirate. I.. know my way well into most of their buildings and bases.. I believe taht could come of use in trying to find this man's parts.." he motioned to Nex. "And getting out of there without too many problems." Jarek was a bit more timid towards the man. His voice was weak, his body still a bit shaky. He didn't like the power of this man's presence. "Jarek.. former mayor. I have.. connections." his statement sounded a bit more like a question, as he was still questioning his reason for being there. |
Nex looked to all three, he recognized the mayor, and was glad Xander was alive, yet the third person... He recognized the face, everyone recognized the face... At least.... Those who had lived upon the earth.
Yu nodded at Xander, liking the response, but the weakness in Jerek's voice concerned him. wWould this man hinder their journey? "Jarek," Yu addressed the man in a firm voice, "Connections are of little use in a land torn apart, I trust you can handle yourself in heavy combat... For there will be pleanty of it upon this planet." Sylus, being the silent one in this case, finally spoke up. "So many renown MAVERICKS here today... I think this battle will be quite interesting..." He smiled a bit, a darker side of Sylus appearing forward. "And You...." He looked at Nex, "I'm well aware of the rumors... You know the terror Pyrus brings first hand.... And you were but a coward in his presence... I hope this battle doesn't recreate that moment." Nex looked him directly in the eye, "I can assure you I will more than pay him back for what he did that day... And Who are you to say that Sylus... You've been running away your whole life..." Sylus's eyes flashed a light red as the two stood at each other in an intense clash of personalities, "So.... You were that boy... You were one of them...?" Nex nodded, "I'm well aware of what you did to Earth... All those people.... You didn't even let them escape." Sylus sighed, "I simply destroyed a speck in order to save the entire galaxy... Earth is gone, and you need to get over it." Nex shouted, "You left all of earth behind! We could have easily saved them if you weren't so listless all the time!" Sylus said nothing more. "Enough! We are all fighting for one purpose, now is not the time to allow our differences to split us apart!" Nex shook his head, losing all that was left of his good mood. He thought that they could just get this over with quickly... But with the destroyer of Earth here.... He suspected a repeat performance. |
Cara was a bit confused throughout the conversation, but she did catch onto one thing. The man whom she didn't know, the one who was now arguing with Nex, had caused the destruction of a planet. Earth. She had heard little of this from space pirates, but she had never found out the whole story. And from the looks of it, there may as well be a repeat of that starting here. She cringed.
Xander also cringed. Partly at the fact tat the two groups were already arguing, but mostly at the fact that his planet may be a complete and total repeat of Earth's destruction. He caught Cara's cringe, which made him feel all the worse. If they weren't in the middle of introductions and getting ready for a battle, and if she weren't standing in the middle of a group of men holding rifles, he would go to comfort her. He simply mouth something to her, which seemed to even her expression out again. 'It'll be okay. Promise.' Cara read Xander lips as he mouthed a bit of comfort to her, and managed another grin. Jarek simply nodded. By this time he was too lost in his own anxiety to even really be listening. He caught an amused look from Cara and immediately straightened out a bit. Foolish little girl.. She can't outdo me. |
Sylus knew that all of his friends here had pretty much dissolved, he knew that if this planet was destroyed, all eyes would be on him... And he would be running once more. But he knew what had to be done in his own mind, "Note.... That just because you love this planet.... It will not stop me if I believe it is the only way... With Pyrus gone and several ranking generals of the IAP.... Their stranglehold will be weakened... Allowing a new order to take hold in this planet... You just have to get off the planet in time..."
Yu eyed Sylus with anger, "At the loss of so many lives, I suggest you stay away from using planetary charges... It is not worth the loss. With earth.... There was something that could have escaped... That was understandable... But if you do it to this planet... All that we fight for will be lost..." Sylus eyed his son, "Backtalking your father will get you nowhere... I will try to avoid it, but if it gets to a last ersort.... I will not hold back." Nex knew he had good intentions, but his logic was twisted by the life that he experienced in the laboratory. He said nothing more, but simply placed a hand on Cara's shoulder to let her know that he was there. "We should go.... Now.... We are losing valuable time." Yu nodded, "No doubt that the IAP have been advancing all this time, they have already placed a perimiter around us, gather up as many men as you can and use the terrain of the city to our advantage." The group nodded as the 15 men ran off toward the city, readying defensive positions. "With any luck the locals of the town will be happy that we are liberating this entire planet... As for your parts... If your coordinates are correct, all but one of your ship pieces should be somewhere in this forrest. I suggest you and Cara to form a search party." |
Cara, at the moment, tried to pay attention to the conversation again, however, she was fairly lost. And the words that came from the man's mouth added a whole lot more too her confusion. Yu's.. father? She eyed the man before her in wonder. Could he really be that.. aged? How strong is he? What is he capable of? Questions buzzed through her head, trying to block out the immense probability that her planet may as well be blown to smitherines with her new, sudden interest in the man. She calmed a bit further as she felt a hand on her shoulder, turning to see that it was Nex's. Cara was rather grateful for that small act from him, it gave her great comfort.
At the mention of 'the locals', her thoughts halted and she stood there dumbly, blinking. What would they think..? She eyed some of the nearby houses, all closed up and silent. There were shadows of people visible, and it was obvious to her that they would all be rather confused, scared... as she would be if she didn't understand the situation. Her heart went out to them, and she quickly snuck over to the nearest house, leaving Nex to create the search party. As she entered the small, rather dirty house, she heard shuffling, whimpering, footsteps backing away. She smiled softly, and put her hands into the air. "I've come to explain.." she said the gentlest voice the could manage. Soon enough, faces became visible to her from the shadows, slowly inching towards her. Cara smiled at them, then proceeded to tell them everything. |
Sylus eyed Cara for a moment as she walked away, aware of the interest that the woman had taken in him. He almost hated how people looked at him as though he was a creature, and she reminded him of that time. However, she was only doing it because of this conversation that he had with her group, not for any reasons outside of that. He did not hold that against her, however, his eyes returned to Nex. "Tell me... Why is she here in this group? She doesn't seem to be a very experienced warrior... What is she to you?" Nex paused at the two questions, the second question boggling him the most. What is she to me...? I know what she means to me... But what would I call her? Nex looked Sylus in the eyes, "She is here for two reasons, one, she holds a closer bond with the people of this planet than I do, and two, she is always at my side. And she is a pretty competant warrior... She may be new to the battlefield, but she has fire in her eyes... And as for what she is to me..." he paused for a moment, then smiled at the first word that came to his mind, "She is my heart... And if she was ever taken away from me... It would be taking my heart with it... And if she was ever killed, it would break my heart... And It would never return." Sylus eyed him for a moment before responding, "Do not allow love... to get in the way of your main tasks... That mistake is the most fatal one you could ever make." Nex said nothing, because any more talk would mean wasted time. "Xander, I want you to come with me to back me up in the woods. Sylus, you can choose to remain in the town or come along with us, your choice." Sylus thought for less than two seconds before he decided, "I think it is best if I stay here." Nex nodded, looking toward Xander, "What about you?"
Both Sylus and Yu stayed behind in the town, Yu talking to one of the local village leaders in a pleasent town while Sylus simply wandered to get a feel for his surroundings, Yu expected Jerek to stay around, but again, it was his choice to go where he wanted. Sylus was not more than about 20 feet away from Cara, watching her for a moment as he explained to the villagers what was going on. He walked toward one of the other houses that seemed a bit worn due to the intense conditions, it was evident that this village had been through a battle before. Sylus attempted to open the door, it was obviously stuck, something heavy on the other end of it. Sylus used his mighty strength to pull the door outward, breaking the door out of its hinges in the process. A large amount of wood blocked his entrance. Again, showing that this was not a problem for him as he lifted the heavy, wooden beams and set them on the front lawn. He walked into the house, seeing 3 dead bodies, and a scared little girl.... Sylus walked out with a depressed look on his face as he carried the girl in his arms, he set her upon the ground and removed the dirt from her face with his hand, the girl was crying... It was obvious she had lost her family, and all Sylus could do was hold her until she was ready to talk on her own. |
Xander had been standing to the side, casually leaning against a wall, until he heard his name, at which he straightened up and walked over. He figured he didn't have much choice in the matter oh how Nex had spoken his request of him. This made him a bit surprised when he asked if he would go. "Err... yeah." He cast a rather long side glance at Cara, smiled softly, then looked back to Nex.
Cara couldn't help but over hear bits and pieces of Sylus' conversation with Nex, all of which either made her jaw clench, or her insides melt. She finished explaining the situation to the small family's parents, who were now seemingly much more frightened then before. A couple of bodies were strewn about the room they were standing in, and it occurred to her that most people of this village were rather peaceful, despite their situation. An idea popped into her head and she reached a hand into her bag, grabbing the rather large gun she still had stored there. The gun she had taken from a space pirates' base not long ago, a gun she had shot a rather revolting creature with.. a gun that may as well have saved Nex. She smiled a little at that, handing it to the father of the family. "Use it if necessary. Inform the other surviving villagers... Stay strong., it will all be over soon." she said softly, grimly smiling a bit at the thought of that. She wasn't lying, no. Either her planet would be blown up by Yu's father, which seemed highly probable to her, the space pirates enslave and overall kill most of the planet's population, which also seemed very likely, or the 'happily ever after' option, which of course, she believed would not be taking place. Walking out of the house, she found a random door, seemingly stripped form its house. She looked around, for the cause, only to find Sylus cradling a small child, a little girl to be specific. the sight made her heart melt a bit, but surprised her greatly. The 'destroyer' of earth, the one who questioned her being here... cradling a young, crying child? This did not seem logical... yet, there it was right in front of her. Her interest in this man only heightened, and she watched for a few moments before walking back inside the pervious house. About 10 minutes later, the mother of the family emerged with her, and she walked over to Sylus and the child. The mother offered to take over from there, explaining to the child that she could live with them for the time being. Car leaned back against the house, smiling and watching the scene. She was now broke, but... what the hell? Why not. |
Nex was not in the best of spirits, walking out with little conversation other than what he knew. "Its good to know you are still alive Xander, I was wondering that for the longest time... I apologize for having to leave so suddenly... I had little choice in my current condition." He paused for a moment, "I had little choice in the matter... But I promise I will return the favor somehow." He continued to look throuth the woods, it would not be hard to spot them, after all, they were in a clearing around here somewhere, he just didn't remember exactly where he had put it.
Sylus lifted his head somewhat, seeing that a mother had offered to take over, he lifted his head toward her and mumbled a bit in response, although it was easily heard, "Just... Take good care of her." He lifted himself up, patting the little girl and decided that it would be best for the little girl to feel as though she still had a family. Sylus was not a good fatherly figure anyway. He saw Cara was watching him again, but simply walked by and said nothing of it. He was not much of a talker, and he simply leaned against the open gate of the city and kept his eyes out. The other soldiers were doing the same, however, they seemed focused, while Sylus seemed as though his mind was on other things. |
Xander remained mostly quiet. He did not know much about this man, and he didn't really intend to. However, the loss of conversation bugged him. He did grin a bit as Nex finally spoke, almost happy to hear such from him. "I'm glad to know you an Cara are alive and... seemingly unharmed as well. As for leaving, it is understandable, I was.. confined for that time, anyways." He continued through the woods, keeping pace with Nex as they trekked through the all-too-familiar forrest. "You have no need to repay me. I owe Cara a great debt, one that cannot be repaid. I owe her my life, for that matter.. You owe me no favors.
Cara's gaze followed the mother and seemingly orphaned child, rather than staying on Sylus. The sight of the two made her smile, and she found herself a bit lonesome, missing her own family and her old friends. It was nice to know Xander was alive, for the time being, but... his betrayal had wrecked what was left of their friendship and it had yet to be rebuilt. It was at this time that Jarek approached Cara, a seemingly scared look upon his usually proud features. "Hello." "Hi." she said simply, almost dismissing his presence. "You declined my job offer, that was a rather large blow to my pride, y'know." Cara couldn't help but grin. "Good." She then walked away a few steps, indicating the conversation was over. He didn't catch the hint. "They all want me to die. I can see it in the way they look at me.. I was hoping.." "That I would sympathize with you?" Jarek nodded, and Cara let out a soft sigh. She said nothing more on the subject, looking up in the gray tinted sky. "Our planet is going up in flames." |
Nex nodded, grateful that Xander did not hold any grudges against him for leaving, it was good they had another ally on this planet that could be of some use. Nex was not about to accept his second statement though, "Whatever happened between you and Cara that you need to repay has nothing to do with me. My debt to you is an entirely different matter, I care for her deeply, but that does not make us the same person." He says, stating a point. "I want everyone to live comfortably here, including you... If you want to return to Maverick headquarters with me you may, but if you want to stay here... It is your choice. But you seemed comfortable with advanced technology." He paused, looking in a clearing that was coming up, running up to it in his eagerness, he found exactly what he was looking for. Pulling out a familiar tool that he had used before, the large pieces of his ship suddenly vanished into nothingness within a blue light, "Good, lets head back to town." He said, hoping that nothing had happened when he was gone.
Sylus couldn't help but overhear the two talking, he knew that the 'up in flames' thing was because of him. Without him here, there seemed to be some symbol of hope coming from them, now that he was here. Sylus released a heavy sigh, "Tell me! If you had the choice between releasing a world destroying monster out into the universe that could possibly kill more people throughout the universe! Or would you prefer to let the people possibly die from the creatures hand." He turned back to the two of them, "A slow an agonizing death... That is what happened on Earth! Pyrus is the world destroying monster on this planet, So is the IAP, and not to mention space pirates... Do you have any idea what they have done...? Wait..." he looked at Cara, "You should know out of everyone what they can do... Nex is a walking example of what Pyrus can do." He sighed, calming down, but having the urge to punch the wall at this moment. "I will try my best to avoid it... But if we are unable to clear the threat ouf of this planet..." He paused, "I will think about it...." he turned around, eyeing the forest. "They are here.... The IAP has surrounded the village..." "Hey! You!" A barrage of bullets could be heard all around them as the Mavericks caught sight of even more men surrounding them, the needles in Sylus's right arm were shaking violently, and as he walked toward the gate, several heads popped out to greet him. "There he is! Open Fire!" At least 10 soldiers unloaded in the direction of Sylus, releasing his needles and creating a shield of metal that protected the village gates. "Take cover you fools!" he shouted in a rather gruff voice to Cara, Jerek, and anybody in earshot. |
Xander raised an eyebrow. This man was indeed... something else. Anyone would have loved to not owe a debt to another, but he nodded in agreement to this. "Alright, if you wish.. As for coming to Maverick headquarters.. Thank you for the offer, I'll consider it." He recognized something out of place... and blue, up ahead. Seeing Nex running towards it eagerly was a good sign that they had indeed found what they were looking for. He agreed on going back to town, he too hoping nothing bad had happened. Of course, he was disappointed when he heard the barrage of bullets as they approached.
Cara froze at Sylus' sudden outburst, eyes widening. Being Yu's fatehr, she knew this was a man she should probably have a great respect towards, but she couldn't help but feel the need to defend herself. After all, she had not said her comment because of him. she had lost her last flicker of hope for this planet years ago. "I in no way meant that to be because of your presence. Yes, in a way it does alarm me that you may abolish this planet if that were to happen.." it pained her greatly to say the next few words. "That would be.. understandable if in the same circumstances as Earth was seemingly in. That.. That has been my view upon my planet for years now. It has been 'up in flames' since I was small, and saying it now I mean it as I have throughout my life. This planet is already in flames. Utterly and completely. There is hope... however, I myself happen to be a pessimist." With that, she turned, alarmed at the sudden barrage of bullets. However, she was not dumbfounded enough to stay standing there, she jumped into the surrounding forrest's bushes, taking the liberty to pull Jarek into cover as well. Jarek was alarmed, dumbfounded really, almost grateful to Cara for getting him out of teh way. Almost. The two turned around only to be greeted by three men with weapons, two going after Jarek, one after Cara. Cara frowned a bit, unsheathing her sword, and not taking her time in surrounding it in a familiar fire-like substance, easily cutting through the man's upper body, and taking one of Jarek's opponents from behind. She heard the bodies drop, turning to Jarek, who was facing his opponent with an plasma sword drawn. Cara was rather surprised with his swordsmanship, it wasn't very good, not that she was one to talk, it was just better than she had expected of him. Jarek took a lunge with his other hand as his opponent blocked the other, the sword ending up plunged into the other man's chest. He, too, let the body drop, before turning to Cara who was looking around the area they ended up in for any more IAP men. |
Nex could hear the sounds of bullets on bullets, but the Navericks, Sylus, Cara, Jerek, and now the two of them would not be taken down that easily. Not to mention that more Mavericks were yet to come. Nex turned to the left, IAP coming from the south as well. He turned his rifle-arm toward the first man he saw. He incinerated the man's skull with a single blast of the rifle, showing the power of the rifle and the reason he had so feverishly searched for it from the beginning. Nex continued to run at a quickened pace to be near Cara, he had to make sure it was okay.
Sylus sighed, the metal shield still blocking the bullets from getting any further. "I am sorry... I will do everything in my power to not destroy this planet..." The metal defense turned into offense as the metal spikes sped forth, killing four right away and causing the rest of them to fall back, he turned back, seeing that no IAP members have gotten into the village, he saw Nex and Xander returning after their search. Nex sighed, seeing that Cara was not pinned down and the Mavericks were holding their own. The thoughts were running through his mind. Yu was not far from Cara and Jerek, "What is the situation!?" Asked Nex as he looked at Yu. "The enemy has surrounded the Northern, Eastern, and Western flanks... It is only a matter of time before the south is taken as well. Our backup is arriving in about 30 minutes... If we can hold for that long, we can outflank them and push them back." He looked to Cara, "Cara.... A note about that sword I had given you.... It is armor piercing, anything the IAP wears will most likely not stand against it.... Its my secret.... And now it is in your hands..." |
Cara didn't have time to greet Nex and Xander when they came back, Jarek and her were too busy trying to block the enemies that were coming at them from getting into the village, which was going pretty well for the both of them so far. Cara was grateful to Yu for explaining that, and overall became more grateful to him for giving her the sword, but being in the middle of fending off a couple of IAP men, the best she could do was flash him a quick smile and say a quick "Thank you!" she then proceeded to plunge the sword into an IAP member's chest, easily breaking into his chest plate, which seemed to be a great surprise to him and those near him. She grinned a little, liking how it helped to even out the playing field for her. Cara felt a sharp pang cutting into the back of her ankle, but thought nothing of it as the fighting continued.
Jarek on the other hand had long since forgotten about his sword, now turning to a couple of rather large guns to use to fend off his opponents, seeing as they were now coming quicker at him. Xander eyed Cara and Jarek, saw they were a bit outnumbered, and took the liberty of hopping the bushes and joining them in fending off that section of the forrest surrounding the town. His guns were the same as he had used for breaking out of the IAP lab, the bullets easily cutting down five to seven men a piece as he shot at the rather small masses. |
Nex was now next to Cara in this battle, right where he felt he belonged. As the two fought side by side, the trickle of IAP forces slowly shrunk down to a few at a time, until eventually they decided it was best for them to slow down and think things through. The IAP hid in the bushes and blasted from a distance. Nex dived behind the nearest cover, a building. The power of his rifle was shown yet again as he shot in the direction of the bushes, a horrific scream echoed out as the bushes started on fire. The men of the IAP ran in all directions to avoid the flaes, although the bushes were on fire, the IAP members obviously had fireproof suits. Everything has its limits however.
It was now Yu's turn. Cheng Yu charged forward and cut through two soldiers. They did not last long, and Yu's quickness was not yet stopped as he charged through more of their special forces. One man was able to meet him head on, Yu's glowing blade met the blade of another man. His suit was much different compared to the suits of the others. It was more form fitting, he moved quicker than the others, and he was an even match for Yu in the field of strength, if not more. The enemy pushed Yu back, causing Yu to stumble and fall back at the front gate. "So..." The other man said clearly, "The famous Cheng Yu of the Mavericks... Not to mention Nexion.... It is convenient that I have met you two here..." He paused for the moment, "I wish to extend something that you might be interested in... A peace offering between the Mavericks and the IAP... Our troops are stationed all around the town... Think of your chances. If you tell me yes or no right here... They will either attack, or halt the advance.... You don't have to see all of these innocent people torn apart by our armor division..... You won't last...." |
Cara grinned as Nex joined in next to her, which seemed to be a huge energy boost to her, though she found herself able to stay in one place, since the enemies were slowly wearing down to the point that they started firing at a distance. She took cover behind a rather large tree, something that would be rather study when it came to being fired at. Her eyes widened at the power of nex's rifle, the screams of agony heard form the IAP officers. Only when she moved her foot did the pain rear up again, and this time worse. She let out a soft cry of pain as she took off her shoe to study her ankle. A bullet had been lodged into the joint there, but she would have to wait to to get it out.. now was not the time. Silently cursing, she threw her shoe to the side, and decided not to move much further. She didn't want to worsen it.
Xander kept up his firing, his bullets easily reaching the officers behind their rather poor 'cover'. Meanwhile, Jarek was sitting near Cara, out of breath. He eyed her ankle and grimaced. He knew she would have one hell of a time getting the bullet out. Cara froze, seeing Yu seemingly matched in strenght. Her eyes widened in horror at what he said. The IAP? Attack... the villagers? She felt bile rise in her throat, and she turned her gaze away, not wanting to hear anymore of this proposition. |
Yu answered for the group, "We have no intentions of joining up with your organization bent on complete control of all universes." The other man frowned, but it was unable to be seen due to his mask. "That is quite a shame.... Because I have an armor division that says otherwise..." A humming from the distance could be heard, but it was slowly growing louder. Hover-tanks, massive barrels extending out with the front with machineguns mounted on the top. This was obviously overcompensating on a massive level. However, it seemed the leading general didn't really care.
Another man in a suit came up with a massive rifle and thick armor, he pointed the rifle upward, "I'll have you know that you made a mistake! I'll prove i'm ruthless!" He lifted the rifle, seeing the little girl in the distance, causing him to smile. The echo of the thunder of the bullet striking the skull of the little girl could be heard, the entire group stared in horror. Cheng Yu simply shook his head. Sylus looked upon the body of the girl that he had pulled from the wreckage, then at the man holding the rifle, at that moment, he snapped. "You bastard! How could you take away a life such as that!" Sylus ran through the group of people in front of him, "Gah! I'll destroy you!" The spikes in his arm flew forth, but an enemy shell flew from the armor. Sylus was not about to let this get the best of him. His spikes all became one impliment, spinning and grinding together until sparks were released form it. The spikes caught the shell and stopped it where it was, spinning quickly until the two men decided it was time to jump out of the way. The shell exploded and the first tank ripped into pieces form its own force. |
Cara watched the scene unfold before her eyes, emotion stripped form her face. This had happened too many times now.. ruthless slaughterings, screaming, terrified villagers, locked up in their houses.. just praying. She watched silently, unmoving. Her heart went out to the family who had just 'adopted' the young child. That may as well have been her 12 years ago.. no. She wished it had been. Her thoughts of this were interrupted by a very small, frightened man emerging from teh new home of the little girl. No.. The father of the small family she had talked to, wielding a very small, almost pitifully sized gun, walking out, body shaking, gun pointed at the man who had killed the little girl. Cara stared in horror. She stood, despite the shooting pain in her foot, a low hiss of pain escaping her mouth. She used every ounce of adrenaline she had left to run into that man, just collide into him, using her weight to push him back into his house. Once inside, where they were both re-hidden, she punched the man square in the jaw, aware of the man's rather small family watching. "Next time, you'll be shot in the ass, old man. Got it? Revenge.. is pointless." she huffed, suddenly exhausted. She collapsed against a wall, the family simply staring at her.
Xander simply shook his head, seeing the man. He was nothing but a dead man walking. His eyes widened as Cara got up, noting her bloody foot, and pushed the man back inside rather harshly. He almost got up, but instead, his eyes went to the Mavericks, waiting to see what they would do. Jarek took a deep breath. He had a feeling none of them would make it out alive. Not with the constant barrage of IAP attacks. |
Nexion stared in amazement as a flood of newcomers came up behind him, they were all Mavericks, poised and hidden in various locations so the fire would come up with no questions. Even with the sniper and the commander at the front lines, it was obvious the two of them realized that they could not take on this large group alone. The commander's head turned in the direction of the sniper, almost as if he was scowling at the man from behind his mask. It was evident with the way his next moves went that he was not happy with the man.
He shoved the sniper aside and walked so he was hidden behind the tank, a barrage of bullets following him in a futile attempt to kill him. He was not stupid. The gunfire was then focused at the sniper, his bulky armor preventing any quick escape, the bullets made short work of him as his body hit the ground with a heavy thud. Nex wondered exactly why they were not being assaulted from all sides, by now there would be the chaos of battle, they had waited too long for the IAP's main force, unless they believed that this weak force was all that was needed to take down the Mavericks. He kept his eye on the commander for as long as he could, Yu doing the same as Wolfe finally stepped up with his own battle armor on. It was then that the commander's voice echoed through his head like a bad memory. "Fire..." A massive light was spotted coming down from the sky and slowly moving to its destination. Nex stared up in horror as he saw the destructive beam down to the sky. Cheng Yu did not panic, Neither did Wolfe, but Nex wondered if he was going to live through the day. As soon as the shell came near, it was evident why the other Mavericks did not react quickly. A light shield appeared above the town as the shell made contact merely a few feet from the highest building. The force of the beam blew down several trees surrounding the area. The town was shaken, but unphased as the horror in his eyes soon turned into relief. "Why didn't y...." Wolfe cut him off, "Come on Nex.... You have to be an idiot not to put up a defensive shield around the town." The commander simply laughed after that, "Oh true... But how many more strikes can your shield take before it falls down!" He laughed shortly after, a flood of IAP troops coming in soon after, at least 20 could be seen before they found good hiding places. They knew that the shield would be down soon, all they had to do was wait.... Another beam was already preparing for its strike. Nex walked into the small room holding Cara, he was worried, his eyes looking down to her bloody foot, she had been wounded. Nex spoke out of worry for her, "Are you going to be okay...? I can help you if you think you need it...." he held up a first aid kit. However crude looking, it did the job it was supposed to. |
Cara could see more Mavericks flooding the area, the mere number of men she could see from her spot on the floor surprised her. The massive light she saw approaching also did. What the- Her thoughts were cut short when she moved her foot again, pain shooting up from her ankle. She groaned, wiggling her ankle around to try and keep the wound open. After all, if if healed before she got the bullet out, it would only make things worse for her.
Her face lit up the tiniest bit when Nex walked in, she stood, ignoring the pain at the moment. She quickly looked over him, glad to see he had done better than she. But that didn't surprise her. "I'm fine... I just need.." she cut off when she saw the first aid kit. "Tweasers." she finished, grinning as she took the first aid kit and quickly found what she had been looking for. Leaning against the wall, she brought her wounded foot up, and took a deep breath as she ever so slowly moved the tweasers into the bullet hole, the bullet now lodged an inch or so in. She found the bullet, whimpering a bit as she accidentally nudged it, and quickly pulled it out using the tweasers. She then grinned up at Nex. "Thanks.. What's happening?" she asked, motioning out the window she had been watching from. "What's with the light?" she asked, worry obvious in her voice. Xander frowned as he saw Jarek hiding behind the building Cara had gone into. He walked over, and took the liberty of hitting him in the head with his guns' handles a few times. "What are you doing?" he whispered, harshly. Jarek simply shook his head, making Xander frown again. "Cara's wounded and she's a hell of a lot braver than you." That changed him. Jarek immediately stood, cleared his throat, and looked around. "What's the situation?" |
Nex watched her perform the self-surgery as the bullet slipped out after some working. Nex seemed to wince along with her, feeling every inch of pain as she pulled. When she whimpered, Nex wanted to go over there and make it all better for her, but knew that there was nothing he could do. After all, he was not a field medic.
Nex heard her question the reason for the light, a frown came upon his face. "They are launching heavy doses of plasma upon our shield, they have plans to take it down and then send the main force in... That is what I would guess. They knew what was coming, that is the problem with the IAP... Several intelligent men who know what they are doing who are in the wrong hands." He sighed, walking over to her and pulling out a spray bottle full of disinfected. He was gentle, knowing it was the one thing he could do in this situation, pressing the top of it in as the spray covered her wound, it would not sting, the future had solved that problem already. However, the sound of it bubbling was heard to indicate it indeed was working. Nex then held up the bandages for her to take and wrap around her ankle, with that, she should be back in good fighting condition. Wolfe heard the sound of Jerek finally returning to the battlefield meet him, knowing exactly what the coward was doing, his attitude got the better of him. "While you were hiding in a corner, the IAP thought it would be dandy to launch artillery on us from their overhead spaceships. Looks like if you don't fight now you are going to die without a single kill to your name, how noble..." Yu did not like where this was going, "Enough with the bickering. Wolfe, sometimes it is best to not kill at all rather than kill 1,000. Some of todays' greatest figures have not killed a single man... Perhaps Jerek will be one of those figures?" Wolfe eyed him for a moment, then shook his head and dropped it. Another plasma shell slammed against the shield once again, this time shaking the foundation of the town. The tallest building collapsed into itself in response, several other building being damaged as well. Nex felt the blast, and nearly fell over on top of Cara in the process. He was able to catch himself on the wall. "Haha! Looks like your barrier cannot take much more...." |
