Vienna simply narrowed her eyes at Pyrus, not really giving a damn for his input upon her meaning. She did, however, care when Sylus stepped out of the trees. She shook her head violently, only able to watch as they cuffed him, only slightly phased at his ears. They weren't normal, no, but she wouldn't hold them against him. For who knew what reason. She found her vision becoming a bit blurry as they walked off with him, waiting until they were out of sight before completely losing it. Seconds later, her head was tilted to the sky, shouting numerous profanities, none of which were pretty or ladylike. Tears brimmed her eyes, and since she was weaponless, the way which she took out her frustration was hitting the ground repeatedly. Cara's gaze followed Sylus' form until he was no longer visible, her expression falling a bit. They had just lost one of their best fighters, and a good guy.. someone who Vienna had seemingly approved of, which was rare. Seeing her in this state was even more rare. Vienna continued the beating of the ground, hurting herself more than anything, until the skin on her knuckles broke, at which point Cara came to stop it. She held her hands up, and when she was seemingly done struggling, she embraced her. Minutes later, Vienna got up and left, face emotionless on her way back to town. This was the oppurtune moment for Cara's question. She turned to Nex, walking over to him and stood there for a silent moment before speaking. "The sniper... who was it that he shot?" she asked cautiously, looking up at him. It was obvious to her that the bullet had indeed hit somebody, and she took responsibility for this. She should have taken care of the bastard before he had the chance to. |
[but.... But.... That doesn't make sense.... o.o]
All Nex could do was watch as his sworn enemy took two people who had helped in the struggle to save this planet. First Wolfe, and now Sylus, Nex would not smile for a long time. He then turned to Vienna, she seemed to be taking this harder than the others, harder than he would think. Sure he thought she would feel bad, but as she was beating the ground in anger... Something clicked in his mind. Something must have happened between the two of them to bring them closer, and whatever it was, it was close enough that Vienna could not even show her anger after releasing all of this out. As they began to walk back toward the town, it was now Nex's turn to explode. He roared outward with the sheer pain he had felt from today's actions. With his powerful, mechanical arm he punched a massive hole through the front of the nearest tree, he then turned away from Cara and collapsed there, all strength gone from his body. He had gone into a depressed state, "Wolfe... My best friend.... He's gone.... And now Sylus.... and it is all my fault!" He then finished off the tree with the rest of his strength, causing it to topple over and smash to the ground. The noise echoed through the forests, and that is when Nex began to cry. The Mavericks looked bleak, like soldiers who had left their families and friends behind when their friends were right next to them and their families were just a few days away. They had circled around Wolfe, offering him respects now that he was gone. He had his hands crossed, his gun placed along the rest of his body. The way Wolfe wanted to die was the way of the warrior, he just did not want it to come this soon. "He is with the spirits now... And he can never cross to the other side again..." said Yu. "He may have been reckless, but I do not know another man with the spirit that this man has... He is was a tiger, and he shall go to the place where all great warriors go when they die... May you rest in peace..." Yu was on his knees at the side of Wolfe, his hand rested upon his pale head. Yu slowly moved his hand away and stood up, allowing the others to say whatever they wanted before they sealed him up in a body bag and took him to the place to be burried. |

Vienna approached town, and watched, from a distance, the funeral of Wolfe. Her thought momentarily went to earlier at the party.. she had ruined his chances of 'scoring', which she now felt horrible for. Then to when she asked his reason of being here. It was his ship, and that was all. She felt sadness, though not as greatly as she had moments ago, and she found herself praying for the first time in her life. Cara's eyes became rather large at this, and she cringed as Nex hit the tree. His best friend was gone, and there was really no one to blame but herself. She felt miserable. Cara let him release his anger on the tree before approaching him, embracing him as he cried, gently rubbing his back in hopes of offering some comfort. "Do not blame yourself.. I had seen teh sniper but minutes before.. I had the chance, to kill him, but.. I didn't know. I didn't know." she said softly, the state her love was in was making her rather depressed herself. "I'm so sorry, Nex." |

Sylus was hauled several miles away until his skin met with solid ground once more, he had several cuts from the branches slapping at his skin as the soldiers carelessly carried him along. Now that he looked up, he saw the last man he wanted to see, the Commander. "You should have known better than to escape the IAP Sylus. They always get there man, even if that man is an earthborn reject." Sylus said nothing, he kept his eyes locked on the ground, focusing on any random pebble. "Oh, no response my friend? Well.... I can trust you that you will be going away for a long time... And I'm not going to let you stay here for much longer. You are heading to the Leviathan... Our special little fortress ship that has never been escaped from. I think you will find yourself right at home... You'll be back to the testing lab in no time." Sylus finally spoke up, "Cut the crap... I know who you really are... You just want me away... So you can have your way with whatever you want on this planet. You know I am the only one who can stop you." The commander smiled through his helmet, "Oh... There is no fooling you my friend... But there will be no need for you anymore. Take hm to the transport ships under a heavy escort, I don't want their friends breaking him out. Nex clung to his love as though she was the last thing holding him to his earth. He cried onto her shirt, releasing everything before finally calming down, but not letting go. "It was not your fault... It is my fault. For thinking that we could have pushed an army out of this planet... Now Sylus is gone, and Wolfe is gone forever..." His arm released a quiet beep soon after, somewhat muffled by her shirt. Still holding onto her with the other arm he pulled his robotic arm toward himself, it was a communication. Cheng Yu's voice spoke up "Nex, it seems as though we have one final chance to get our hands back on Sylus before he is escorted off of this planet. They are taking him to the Leviathan Starfortress, if he actually is able to get there, there will be little chance that we are able to break him out in our current condition." Nex thought, maybe there was a chance to save Sylus.... Maybe he could at least save one of the people he had lost. "Alright... I'll be back to town soon..." He said, his voice cracking with sadness. Yu sighed on the other end, "I know it is hard for you... But we are in a war and the fighting cannot stop just because someone has died. You may grieve later, but for now... We need to save a life." Nex understood this, his voice stronger at the response. "Come on. We need to get back to town." He said, reluctantly letting go of her as he started to walk back to the city, still holding her hand. Cheng Yu walked up behind Vienna and placed a hand on her shoulder as she was praying, speaking up. "You must be taking Wolfe's death hard, I am sorry," He said, unaware of the situation between Sylus and her, "If you want to stay behind you are free to do so. Me, Nex, and the other Mavericks plan to attempt to free Sylus. Now might be our only chance... They are attempting to take him off of the planet and place him in a prison very far away from here. A prison that has a bad reputation for torture and several failed break-outs. That is why we need to take this opportunity while we can. Talk to me if you wish to come." Yu ended on that note, walking away and discussing a strategy with the remaining mavericks. Wolfe being the only one to die today within the Mavericks. |

Vienna's face lit up the tiniest bit. He could still be saved? These people were insane.. but in this state, so was she. "I'd like to come with." she replied quickly, her face still rather emotionless as she followed him to the group to discuss their plans. Cara rubbed Nex's back, allowing him to get it all out, at the cost of her shirt, yes, but that wasn't anything compared to the pain he must be feeling. At the beep, she stayed quiet during this conversation, though she did hear it rather well. The tiniest flicker of hope re-ignited in her, giving Nex's hand a gentle comforting squeeze as the two walked back to the village together. |
Sylus soon found himself being escorted by a large column of men to his next destination. Home. He had lost all hope by now, he thought that the people back where he came from were grieving over Wolfe, Vienna among them. He was sure that the group would not be here much longer, knowing that his presence gave them a great deal of hope after the way he had taken that tank out with a single needle. He remembered the cheers that he had gotten back then, but now that was all behind him, and all he had was memories. It was best to save that for later. There was 12 of The Commander's elite guard around him, two tanks at the front and back with even more men at the front and back of those tanks. An easy 30 people within 4 vehicles was in this group, the other two vehicles scouting ahead. He had many reasons to have no hope.
Nex and Cara returned soon after, and by now the Mavericks had something new up their sleeve they believed they would not have to use. A Hovertank, it was similar to the IAP model, only of a darker green so it would blend in with the forest. One of the men jumped into that tank and began to drive off, the other Mavericks close behind, they would have to be quick with this. Yu greeted the two, Nex still had his eyes red with tears, but he was better. He saw the bag set aside on the ground with Wolfe's body in it, reminding him of why he fought. To save people. "Come then Vienna.... If you need a weapon I would be happy to provide you with one. |
Cara stayed quiet the rest of the way back to town, knowing he would need along time, but that was not something he could get, so atleast some quiet time, though short. Walking up to Yu, she noticed Vienna, still emotionless, but a ray of hope now in her eyes. She truly had some connection wit this man, and for whatever reason, she would stop at nothing to bring him back. At the mention of a weapon, she nodded, and followed after Yu again. "Thank you." she said simply, no real tone or emotion in her voice, something very unchararistic of her. This scared Cara.

Yu did not like the lack of emotion, those without an emotion to bring into battle usually did not care for their own lives. Cheng Yu would have to keep an eye on her.
The group then set out for their most dangerous mission yet to come, leaving behind the ashes of this town... Sylus kept his eyes forward, they lacked emotion just as Vienna's did, only they also lacked the light unlike her eyes. There was no hope in his eyes, but there was shock as he heard the last sound he expected. "We're under attack!" The first tank went down quickly as the soldiers turned in the direction of the assault. Pyrus growled, he was in the front of the group, and he was not about to let this happen. He shouted through a flurry of gunfire, "Burn down the forest! Get Sylus out of here now! We cannot allow them to get their hands on him!" Sylus wanted to take advantage of the confusion, but he already had a gun to his head. Nex meanwhile kept his eyes on the edge of the forest, Cara and Vienna were not too far from them, he aimed for all he could, but through the denseness of the forest, only the tank could get a clear shot. The tank at the front went down quickly, there was now two jeeps left and another tank. "We don't need to slaughter everyone... We just need to get Sylus out of there and escape as fast as we can." said Cheng Yu, looking at Vienna yet again,as if sending her a message. |
Cara's and Vienna's eyes widened in sync at the sudden sound of attack, though they had both been expecting it. Of course, they were the ones attacking. Cara instantly slipped her sword out, attacking those she could, though the limited light was a bit of a problem, as well as the short distance needed. Vienna got the message from Yu, sighing a bit as she did so. She quickly made her way to the side of the column of men escorting Sylus, running up along the side, covered for the most part by the plentiful bushes and trees. Once she had spotted him, she would make her way to him as fast as possible, only cutting down whom she needed to get through. She had never been so determined in her life. This was also a shock to Cara.

Sylus kept his eyes on the tank behind him, he knew as soon as that tank was spotted that he would be able to move. "There it is!" They had spotted the tank in the forest, the two had exchanged rounds, the bullets just barely missing each other but connecting with their desired targets. Two explosions could be heard which shook the foundation of both sides. Sylus took advantage, spin kicking the man who could no longer stand on his two feel. He was now onconscious, but Pyrus noticed this quickly and turned around to Sylus. "You will not get away that easily!" Raising his fist into the air, he swung it downward. bashing it against Sylus's head. He stagged, falling over limply and hitting the ground with a heavy thud. Pyrus hauled the body over his shoulder, starting a mad dash down the pathway. If Sylus was to escape, Pyrus had to be killed for this to happen.

As soon as she had spotted Sylus, he was soon accompanied by Pyrus. Vienna, not knowing who this man was or of his strength, made a mad dash to follow him, ignoring all else surrounding her. She would kill the man holding him if it was the last thing she did. As soon as she got within range of his, she pulled out her plasma blade and attempted to wedge it into the man's back, atleast hoping to slow him down so she could grab Sylus and get outta there. Cara was preoccupied fending off the men now coming this way, she only got a glimpse of Pyrus carrying Sylus. This worried her, especially seeing Vienna going after him. But, man, did she looked angry and determined.

Pyrus was focused, determined, he was ready to smash aside anyone who got in his way.However, he was not ready to smash anyone behind him. The plasma blade entered his upper leg, causing him to howl in pain and fall forward, dropping Sylus and causing him to roll to the side. "Who dares...." He rolled over, having problems standing with the new hole in his leg. "You.... You came back for him!" He lifted his arm toward her, a gun attatched to the top of it. "I'm about to teach you what it means to live in my world. You just made the biggest mistake of your life!" He shouted, the gun blasting off at a high rate toward her.
Cheng Yu saw this, knowing that she had not heeded his words. He jumped through the flurry of gunfire, hoping to catch her before anything bad happened. |
Vienna, seeing Sylus fall, quickly grabbed him, pulling him a few yard away from the angry Pyrus, and slowly edging back wards with him still. He was heavy, yes, but she really didn't care at this point. Vienna took in a sharp breath a the sight of the gun, knowing she could not easily dodge such a thing, simply pushing Sylus' body out of the way, planning on taking the hit, since she had not shield or means of defense, but to her delight, an unfortunate IAP soldier had accidentally backed into this. Taking her chance, she heaved Sylus' body over her shoulder and took off, back towards the village, using any means of cover she could find, fighting, bushes, trees, she was just glad they were fighting in such a forrest. Upon seeing her running this way, Cara ran up to meet with Vienna, hoping to cover her as she got Sylus out of the way.

Pyrus roared out in anger as his first flurry of shots went into his own men, "Get out of the way! Now!" Others ran as fast as they could out of his flurry as the bullets followed her along, he missed all of his first shots, but he heard the twang of something metal being hit soon after. "Yu! You bastard! Get out of the way!" Yu smiled, "Hmmmm.... You know... I will... Just give me a moment..." Pyrus roared in anger yet again and unloaded in Yu's direction. Yu deflected every bullet he could with his blade, his focus amazing as the Mavericks watched in amazement while the enemy soldiers ran in fear out of the flying bullets. This gave Vienna more than enough time to escape.
"Go! Go! They are escaping! Don't let them escape!" The remaining survivors charged forth, the Mavericks blocking their path as a bloody battle ensued. Pyrus involved himself, attempting to tear through Cheng Yu as well as he could, but he could not keep up with the old man, all he accomplished was becoming tired before switching back to his weapons. The forest started aflame, the Maverick's cover following shortly behind as they had to back up and attempt to douse the flames any way they could at the same time. Yu jumped back into the forest soon after the flurry of bullets, shouting in the direction of Vienna. "There is a transportation beam in the village! It will take you and Sylus onto the star ship!" The village was burnt anyway, going back there would surve no purpose. They would have to return to the ship and find a new location. "Charge! They have gotten Sylus yet again! We cannot allow them to get too far!" The commander shouted to fresh IAP troops. They roared into battle and charged after the Mavericks into the forest, causing them to scatter and find their own paths back into the portal. There was an easy 250 men chasing after them. If anybody was caught, they would be eating a flurry of bullets for breakfast. "Lets go!" Nex shouted toward Cara and the other Mavericks, giving them the correct direction. It was a mass retreat, Yu doing his best to act as a distraction as Pyrus jumped through the forest out of pure rage. But the old man quickly followed along with the rest of the Mavericks with the retreat. |
Vienna used Yu's distraction to the best of her advantage, successfully getting both herself and Sylus out of the forrest. Now to get the the starship. It was not hard for her to find the beam, and once they were both safely in the starship, she laid Sylus on the ground, propped up be the wall, and plopped down beside him, breathing heavily. That was a good and rather lengthy run, and she was rather proud of herself for that. While waiting for the others to arrive, she rested there, staring at the ceiling. A lot was on her mind, most revolving around the man next to her. Her eyes went to Sylus, now a bit curious. She had seen his ears earlier, and now she just wanted one more good look.. Very gently and quietly, she lifted his hair out of the way, grinning as she saw the ears. Her other hands very slowly rose to feel the ear, gently rubbing it. If she were to be caught like this, she'd most likely die of embarrassment.
Cara took the hint, following after Nex and the mass of Mavericks back to the beam to escape into the starship. It was an insane number of people retreating, something she had never seen before. |
"Go! Go! Come on!" Nex was making motions as the Mavericks moved in one by one. Finally, as Cheng Yu and Cara finally jumped into the beam, Nex was the last one there, panting along with the rest of them as they were placed in the docking bay. Nex nearly collapsed right there, that was the most intense run of his entire life, he did not want to do that again. The two of them were transported to a different part of the ship though, knowing that Sylus would probably need to rest, they were in the hallway near the main bedrooms.
Sylus sat there quietly, his arm still in severe pain with that collar on there, but something relaxed him in his current state. He woke up slowly, feeling a hand upon his ear. He flinched, as this was unexpected for him. His eyes shot around to examine this area. They were in the starship, he was saved by them, and in the process he felt something unusual now. "... Vienna, why did you save me? You took a major risk back there.... You and everyone...." |
Cara stayed where she landed, bending over and panting heavily, trying desperately to catch her breath. She could really care less where they were, she was exhausted and sweaty, and her wound on her foot had opened up again, blood starting to fill the bottom of her shoe.
Vienna blushed, quickly pulling her hands away. "Sorry.." she said quickly, her gaze slowly going to him again at his question, grinning. "Well, after you pulled that cheap stunt, i wasn't gonna let you just get away with it.. Nor was anyone else. You may prefer being alone, but people care for you." she said, voice soft, which was out of character. As she said this, she slowly began to understand why she had done what she had for this man, though she would never speak this aloud. This she was almost sure of. "Anyways.. how do we get the collar off?" |
Nex noted that the wound in the bottom of her foot had opened up, kneeling down, he was able to get his hands on a more advanced healing tool from this ship. The wound healed itself soon after his action, hoping she would be able to stand up soon.
Sylus was wondering why she did these things, his mind racing for every possibility of this. Why they all wanted to, because 'everybody cared about you' seemed a bit strange considering the fact that he did not know anybody here. "You and the others do not know me... I couldn't have been here long enough for people to start caring... And yet... You came anyway. I thank you, and everyone who risked their lives for my sake... I.... Was not ready to go back there." He paused for a moment, looking at his collar. He had almost forgotten about it. With his other hand he gripped the collar and smashed it, pulling it off and sighing in satisfaction as the pain had finally left. He thought back to just a few seconds ago when she was stroking his ear, "So.... What compelled you to do that... You know.... Touch my ear like that?" |
Cara blushed a little, watching him treat her wound. Moments later it was healed, which amazed her. She slipped her shoe back on, then grinned up at him. "Thank you."
Vienna let out a soft sigh. "That's only because you put up a wall between you and other people.. it's rather troublesome, really. I may not know you well or anything.. but I can't help but feel compelled to help you. You've helped me a couple of times now.. Why is that?" she asked, turning the question back at him. At his question on his ears, she smiled rather embarrassedly, her gaze moving downward momentarily. "You looked discomforted.. I assume because of the collar. But.. umm.. They were there, and looked .. touchable.. and I used to do that to a cat of mine." she blushed a bit at this, comparing him to a cat. She felt a bit ridiculous in this situation, rubbing the back of her neck. "It relaxed the cat and I thought it might help you a little." she said rather quickly, resting her head in her palm afterwards. She felt a small weight lift from her shoulders, which was odd. |
"Yeah...." Was all Nex said as he finally sat down and basically passed out against the wall, the rest of the Mavericks doing the same. He smiled, "You doing alright Cara? That was quite a workout..." he said, sighing shortly after, it was evident he was tired.
Sylus spoke yet again, his voice serious. "I put a wall between myself and other because I do not want them to get hurt. My line of work is a dangerous one, and I would feel terrible if anyone was to die because of that line of work... I already have enough debts to repay as it is." He knew she was embarrased about the previous actions she had did, but he did not want her to continue being embarrased about it. Although he found it strange that he was commpared to the animal which had ears similar to his. Sylus admitted his thoughts, "Well..... It was comforting." He said softly, turning his head away from her even though his expression was unchanged. He couldn't find himself to look her in the eyes as he said this. "It made me feel very calm... Calmer than I was back at my hideaway. It was strange, I have never felt like that." |
Cara chuckled softly, her breathing still a bit labored. She leaned against the wall, attempting to give her legs a break. "Yes.. I am alright. What about you?" she asked, turning to face Nex. She knew the loss of Wolfe was probably hard for him.. but she would not bring that up unless he wished to talk about it.
Vienna again sighed. "Well, I hope someday you let someone through. It's horrible to disconnect yourself like that, whether or not lives are in danger.. i mean.. Hell, Nex let Cara in. I don't mean to compare the two of you, or say you'll open up to someone to the point of love like that.. but they're the only example I know of." She turned to look at him as he spoke his thoughts, smiling a bit. "I'm glad... but.. Why do you look away?" She had, but only for embarrassment. now that was over... what reason did he have? |
Nex sighed, his breathing still just as labored as hers, it was slowing down however. He was finally catching his breath. "I'm alright... Could be better... But things are alright..." He said, leaning against her shortly after, finding comfort from her touch. "Maybe we should go to the bedrooms...." The other Mavericks were getting ready to do the same.
"Cara opened up to Nex because the two were in a desperate situation and found themselves connected to one another in the process. I am happy for them, yet this is a situation that is different entirely. I don't know what opening up will bring me, and the last time I did such a thing.... I lost everything I had." He paused for a moment, "Love is a powerful thing, so powerful that it can change a man's outlook on life. That is what it did for me, my first love gave birth to Yu... And then my line of work did something I should have seen coming. She was killed by my greatest enemy... I could never forgive myself, and I still haven't after 100 years..." He paused, speaking yet again of her question, "Because if I look you in the eyes... I'm afraid I'll be at a loss for words. It happens to the best of us." |
Cara nodded in agreement, her breath starting to even out as well. She stood slowly, waiting for Nex before heading to their bedroom. On the way, a sudden thought occurred to her. "Nex.. where is Ono?" she questioned, looking at him as they walked to their room.
Vienna wasn't sure how to reply to this. she had never loved.. but she had lost. However she had never loved and lost. There was a difference. "I.. I may not say everything. You still have Yu, whether you two are close or not." he eyes went to him yet again, staying there as she spoke next. "Trying wouldn't hurt anyone.. I'm not telling you to.. I know better than that. It's up to you, but I'm asking you to atleast try once more." His last comment confused her highly. She had only been at a loss of words very few times in her life, but only during embarrassing situations. Vienna felt her hand reach out to touch his face, very gently, just stroke his cheek. "Why is this?" |
Nex knew exactly where he was, "I disabled the little robot so he wouldn't follow us into the battlefield. Its going to stay rested until we get back to the Mavericks headquarters. I can't allow him to be destroyed by a hail of gunfire, because that is exactly what would happen." He said, walking to his room shortly after, spotting Sylus and Vienna shortly after. He wondered if he should go over and say hi, but deciding it would be best to keep their distance for now.
"Yu? He is a grown man beyond the prime of his life. We respect each other, but beyond that there was little reaction between us for the past 70 years. After all... I have been planet hopping for a lot of that time." He paused yet again, sighing and hiding his head entirely, "Vienna... I don't know about that. Love is something foriegn to me, I could not put someone through what happened to my last love.... Not after the last time. If I were to try again... It would have to be with someone just as strong as me. So I was always assured of her safety... I hope you can understand why." He paused yet again, he couldn't help but laugh quietly. "You have the emotion... It shouldn't be a mystery... Everyone gets embarressed every once and a while." |
Cara nodded, glad. "Good.. I'm rather fond of him. I wouldn't want that to happen." She too, spotted Sylus and Vienna, which confused her, but she let it go. She was too tired now.. and she figured they didn't want to be intruded upon.
Vienna smiled softly at this, shifty uncomfortably, her gaze going downwards. "I'm not asking you to love.. I'm asking you to open up. You don't have to... and if you can't, I suppose that's understandable." She again grinned at him, feeling a bit foolish. "Yes.. I know the feeling well." Letting out a soft sigh, she stood, feeling the awkwardness of the situation. She was not completely comfortable talking about Sylus' first love, for whatever reason, and decided now was the time to take her leave. "I should go." she said simply, her voice still soft, a twinge of hurt somehow entwined with it. She hadn't been asking him to love her... had she? |
