Nex looked at her, "Yes, we should go rather soon... But before we head out, how are you holding up?" he was a bit worried about her, most humans couldn't last without food for as long as she had, and even though he almost never had gotten hungry himself, even he needed to break for once a while, the two could not go at his pace, or she would risk death. "Are you hungry? Thirsty? We can stop to get something to eat or drink if you want."
[err.... short... sorry x.x] |
"I'm fine.. Don't need anything." It was true, she wouldn't be stupid enough to starve herself, but she did need food in her system. However, she didn't like the idea of slowing Nex down. She hated having to lie to him, but it was for his own good... right? Then a low sound came from her stomach, making her blush and cover it up. She sighed, seeing how her body was speaking otherwise. "Uhh... maybe a little hungry... Sorry... Would you mind stopping somewhere quick?"
[its ok.. same here.. sorry :(] |
Nex was surprised for a moment as she said she was not hungry, she must have been a bit different from most humans he had met. But that changed as a low growl escaped her stomach, she lied to him... Most likely not wanting to slow him down. "Of course, I would prefer it rather to you starving..." he sighed a bit, placing a hand on her shoulder, "Never lie just because you do not want to stop the trip at all... The ship means a lot to me..... But your well being means more.... Alright?" he gave her a gentle hug, it only lasted for a moment as he walked around her and back up through the entrance to the streets, he waited for her, she knew the town better than he did.
[well, it happens :P] |
Cara bit her lip, her gaze falling to the ground. "Sorry.." She returned the hug he gave her, and quietly followed him out up through the entrance. She felt horrible at the moment. First, for lying to Nex. Second, she knew his ship meant a lot too him, but he was putting her well fare before it, even if that meant a greater threat to its parts. Lastly.. she was incredibly hungry. Once they were back onto the streets, she gently grabbed Nex's hand. "Is the tavern ok with you?" She would suggest something else since they were just there yesterday, but most towns on her planet didn't have places to eat out. This town was one of few with a tavern and a bakery. The bakery however, would most likely only serve bread and pastries. That wasn't what Cara considered real food.
|
Nex could tell she was upset with the way she apologized, "None of it is your fault, its a natural lie to make.... Do not feel sorry for it." He exited the building shortly after with her, leaving the broken down shack to where it was and walking out with her. It wasn't long after that he felt her hand reach out to his, he held back her hand firmly, feeling her mention the same tavern. Although the two of them had eaten there yesterday and he was not one to return to the same area twice, he felt that he had little choice in this, he couldn't afford to be picky. "Sounds good..." he said.
Remembering where it was, Nex and Cara walked along with each other to the tavern, finding a seat that was close to the one that they had been at yesterday, his eyes went to it, he had remembered how distant they were the last time they were here, now they were walking into this building hand in hand, the thought made him happy that he had met Cara, even while taking the seat he kept hold of her hand, holding it as he awaited her to sit down on her side of the table. |
By the way he had agreed to the tavern, she could tell he probably wasn't used to the idea of eating at the same place two days in a row. She gave him a small smile. "Sorry, this is the only place to eat out in this town... Most towns here don't even have taverns." Not letting go of his hand, she sat in the seat across the table from him. A quick glance at the rest of the tavern, she saw their table from yesterday. A soft smile lifted her lips, remembering all that had happened yesterday... Especially that morning in the inn. Looking at Nex, her smile widened a bit. A waitress, the same one from yesterday cam with their menus."Anything to drink?" she asked the two. "Water, please." Cara replied, and the waitress turned towards Nex. "And you, sir?"
|
Nex smiled, "Well, its not a really big deal. Last time we were here we didn't really eat anything that allowed us to sample their wares. We ate cake, and i'm sure that isn't their specialty, we should have gone to the local bakery if we wanted to eat a specialty cake, this time I'll be sure to get something different." Nex did not say anything earlier, but now that the two were starting to talk about it, he was hungry.
He looked to the familiar waiter with the odd colored skin from yesterday, "I'll just take a water as well... Nothing special." He turned back to look at Cara, finally mentioning something of the past few days for the two. "Time seems to go by so fast..." Nex smiled a bit more, "Doesn't it?" his eyes met with hers, although he was hidden by his usual attire, his eyes could be easily seen with the way they shined in the dim light. |
Cara took a good look at Nex, from what little she could see of him. Knowing that he didn't sleep, she wondered if he ate. Then again, he had eaten yesterday. Wasn't he hungry then, too? She let out a quiet sigh, frustrated with all the questions she had in her head at the moment. Her mood then shifted a bit after Nex's comment. She smiled, nodding. "Yes.. Yes it does." She'd only known the man in front of her for about two days, yet she felt so... strongly about him. This wasn't something she was used to, and it confused her. She felt her insides melt, seeing his blue eyes shining in the light. If he ever left.. she would really miss those eyes and the man who they belonged too.
|
Nex did eat, which made up for his sleeping. If he did not eat for several days, he would feel tired and hungry, by sleeping he would no longer feel either of those. Being a machine he only needed time to gather his energy, and when he consumed energy it simply eliminated the time factor. When he slept, he gathered energy from his surroundings, thus making him required to consume less than any organic creture in existance, as all cyborgs could do.
Nex kept his eyes on her, he reached up for the menu as the waitress handed them back. He had no plans of leaving at this point, even when he gathered his ship together he would not even think of leaving her... He was hoping she was willing to come with him... At least at some time in the future. They could always come back. "I have to say..." he spoke gently to her, "I couldn't be happier with the way things went..." The waitress returned to bring him back to earth, looking up as she asked the two of them what they wanted to eat. "I'll just take the chicken..." he wasn't a big fan of beef. The waitress then turned to await Cara's response to her question. |
Cara took the other menu, quickly skimming over it. She knew what she wanted.. she'd seen someone order it yesterday. After finding it, she returned her gaze to Nex. She wasn't exactly sure what the words he spoke meant... With the way what went? However, she knew things had gone well since they met.. extremely well. She didn't want things to go to the way they were before he came... she didn't want to be without him, especially on this planet. Her expression fell a bit, at the thought of him leaving. Would he take her with him? What would she do if he left...
She returned his comment with a small smile, then turned her eyes to the waitress when she came back. "The turkey, please." Cara watched the waitress leave, returning to her earlier thought. Heck, they were on a break from their trip, why not ask him? "Nex.. What do you plan to do after we get your ship repaired and back to you...?" She looked at him, face blank. She had no reason to be happy, knowing she might not like her answer. However, there was no reason to be sad either, because she might like his answer. |
Nex knew this question was coming, as the waitress left for a moment his eyes trailed to teh ground, and then back up to meet with hers as she spoke of what he had thought about. He was hoping for the best response to this, he spoke in a tone of mixed emotions. "Well... I had been thinking about this for a while..." he paused for a moment, his eyes again at hers, "Don't think I would want to willingly leave this planet... At least... I wouldn't want to leave you..." He paused, "I was hoping that.... I could take you with me... That you and me could travel the universe together... But if you wouldn't want to go... Well..." his eyes kept locked upon hers through all of this, "I.... I don't want to leave you..." He was honest, his intenions obviouisly spoke that she would not take one step from this planet without her taking the same step.
|
Cara listened to him carefully, catching the fact that he wouldn't leave without her. Of course, if he left she'd all but jump at the chance to leave with him. She replied with a bright smile and light blush. "I'd.. love to travel the universe with you.. My planet, I know isn't the greatest place.. and I have to reason to stay anymore after you have your ship repaired." She thought about that for a moment, having no reason to stay here. But it was true. Her family members either died in the first space pirate raid or abandoned her, and she wasn't fond of either of those thoughts. Having traveled so much after the destruction of the villages she'd lived in, she hadn't had many friends and by now they were all dead or gone. The only reason she had to stay was helping Nex find his ship... and after that, if he left, she wasn't sure her life would have any reason anymore. She slightly frowned at her helplessness, then went back to smiling. His idea had practically erased the bad memories in her mind. Traveling the universe with him.. She smiled again at the mere thought.
|
Nex did not want to force her into anything, so he spoke again of the seriousness of the situation. "Now.... Before you quickly jump on the idea, I want you to think long and hard on what exactly you are doing. Do you really want to go with me and leave everything behind?" There had to be something here for her, he would hate to take her away from what she had here... Although he had no idea what was left after the pirate raids.
It wasn't long after this that the waitress returned with their dishes, Nex did not start eating yet, he was still waiting for her to respond. |
Cara let out a small sigh. She didn't want to have to explain that there was nothing else left here for her, but perhaps death, but nevertheless.. she did. Her gaze dropped to the table, her eyes fixed on the wood, "I.. I don't have anything left here.. Some of my family died inn the first raids, my other family members fled leaving me behind. My friends... the few that I had.. are either dead or have also fled off to other towns. The only other part of my life, the space pirate raids, robberies, rapes, etc... I hate those.. I don't want those in my life anymore.." Her voice dropped to a soft tone, and tears rimmed her eyes as she spoke the next part. "I don't like this planet anymore..." Cara's eyes locked onto Nex's. "I have no reason to stay after you leave.. And I don't want to be apart from you.."
|
Nex felt the mood of the conversation change, all the suffering pouring forth from her mouth as she exposed all she had left. Nex looked to her eyes, the pain showing there as well as she started to cry... He wanted to hold her... Come closer and tell her that he would be okay... But the table seemed to be the biggest length between them at all... And he didn't want to be kicked out of the restaurant knowing she had to eat.
He slid his hand forth across the table and held it there, ignoring his food entirely by now. "I had no idea how bad it was...." he paused for a moment, "I'm sorry for reviving these painful memories for you... But... Cara.... I don't want to leave you either... I promise I'll stay with you... Alright.... I won't leave you ever..." He said, his hand sliding onto holding her hand, giving her as much comfort as he could. |
Cara bit her lip, quickly wiping away her tears. She hated crying. Especially in public.. She gave Nex an apologetic smile, sorry that she had started crying suddenly like that. "It's okay... It's not your fault, you didn't know... And thank you..." She felt reassured by his words and felt herself relax again. She gently held his hand for a moment, then she gave it a gentle kiss, setting it back on the table. Cara picked up a napkin, setting it on her lap before slowly starting to eat.
|
Nex smiled as things got back to normal, he felt her lips upon his hand and knew that everything was going to be alright. He decided it was best to not mention anything else of it and change the subject, he began to eat himself, rather slowly so he could savor the taste, one thing he did not give up was his taste, he couldn't stand not being able to taste food.
He took a small bite of his first piece of chicken, the meat was tender and juicy, just as he liked it, he was beginning to enjoy this tavern's food greatly. "So Cara... How far away is the next person on the list?" he was curious, wondering if he should prepare for a long trip. |
Cara closed her eyes momentarily, savoring the turkey's taste. She'd only ever had it once before, but it wasn't cooked as well as the tavern's meat was. she opened her eyes when Nex began to speak, and she pulled out the list she had on paper. She grabbed a pencil, quickly putting checks next to the ones they already had. Looking at the name, she knew it was familiar. Looking at the address, her gaze turned into a surprised stare. "They're in the next town... Shouldn't take long to get there... An hour at most.." Cara folded the paper back up, sliding it into her bag again. The name was a very familiar name, and she now knew who it was. It surprised her a bit, hearing that one of her old friends was buying ship parts... but, ah well. She hadn't seen them in a while, so she didn't think much on it.
|
"Hmmm.... That is convenient... I guess they are all centered in one area..." he took another bite of his turkey and smiled, he did not order a large helping, it was small enough that he was done with it soon. But at this moment his mind seemed to be on other things, he placed a hand on his chin and thought to himself, waiting for her to finish eating. I wonder if...
"Tell me... Have you seen this man..." The forest was thick and dense, so much so that it was easy to hide things, just as it usually was. The man in question who was in ownership of the voice was holding up a space pirate by its neck, his back up against the tree. "What the hell do you want to know the information for!?" the man pressed him tighter up against the tree, the space pirate made a few noises in response, he was losing air. "I didn't ask you to ask me a question. Now where is this man!" he held up a picture for the person to see, he was easily twice his size, he only needed one hand to hold up the space pirate. "Urr.... Fine... I don't know what you need with him, But he is in the town a few miles north of here... You can't miss it... It sticks out like a sore thumb." the larger man smiled as he finally got the information he wanted, "Thank you... Now your gift.... You shall die a painless death..." The pirate's eyes widened as the large arms of the huge man snapped the man in two, his head was limp from his body and he tossed the corpse away for whatever animal to find. It landed with a sickening meaty thud, "So I will find you... And you will give that which belongs to me..." The man began to walk northward, his mind set on his task, whatever it may be... |
[gah.. short, sorry x.x]
Cara quickly finished eating, wiping her mouth on her napkin, then taking a sip of water. She looked at Nex, who seemed deep in thought at the moment. Curious as to what he was thinking, she decided to ask. "Nex? What's on your mind..?" She wouldn't mind if he didn't want to answer that, however she did wish to know. She had an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach, and she had a bad hunch as to what it was for. |
[s'allright^^]
Nex felt his mind suddenly being tugged back to earth, he lifted his head and smiled a bit, "Oh... I was just thinking about someone I used to know.... And I probably should tell you right now... You see... When you heard the tern space pig said by those space pirates... Well... that is a loose term... Anybody who helps people against the pirates is known as a pig to them... I didn't really think of it at the time, and I hope you won't hate me for not saying this earlier." he paused for a moment, "You see.... I'm not on the good side of most police, I've done some things that required me to break a lot of code, and in the process I had become a wanted man... I am not a pirate. I am what the call a MAVERICK." He paused, "I was thinking about the last time I was caught in a dangerous situation by someone who has been attempting to collect a price on my head for the longest time... He was tracking me down for a while.... And I wonder if he lost my signal or not...." He shivered at the thought of the man returning... That sickening figure looming over him... and with Cara in the mix... |
Cara blinked in slight surprise. She wouldn't dream of Nex being a wanted man... not that that changed much in her mind. However, it might explain the bad feeling she had.. she hoped not. By the way he shivered, he imagined the man was pretty... strong... or crazy, rather. So, he's not on the good side of the police.. Is the man after him on the 'good' side? Her face twisted in confusion, but she kept quiet. She finished her drink, gently setting the glass on the table. "And.. what would that man do if he did catch you?" She was afraid, but almost sure, she wouldn't like the answer he gave. Horror struck her thoughts, but she made her best attempt to hide that in her expression. Would he have him locked up? Tortured? Killed? She flinched at the thought, pushing that thought back.
|
Nex knew she was not going to like his answer, he relaxed himself and took a larger sip of his drink than he had ever done at this table, he was somewhat nervous. "He would do one of three things.... He would either behead me and deliver my head to the IAP for his reward... Attempt to capture me and keep me down until we reach the prison where I will spend the rest of my life rotting in prison. Or vaporize me where I stand and attempt to take a picture of the body as proof..." he sighed, "None of those options are really something I want... And I'll fight until the end to stay away from them... Its a stupid reason for me being a hunted man anyway..." he said, remembering the galaxy's police force... Idiots... all of them.
|
Cara bit her lip. Hard. She winced, sucking the blood she brought up off of her lip, then took a rather large drink of her water. Okay.. So.. Vaporization.. didn't think of that one. She did not like the answer he gave, but she wasn't expecting anything good. Her eyes watered a bit at the thought, and she quickly willed them back. Nex already looked a little nervous, and she knew crying again wouldn't help anything. He needed be comforted... not her. Relaxing a little, she reached her hand across the table, gently grabbing his. "I'll be right there fighting with you... I won't lose you..."
|
Nex appreciated it greatly, but felt bad for bringing it up yet again. he felt her hand upon his, all she could do as the waitress came to collect their plates, he needed some alone time with the two of them... With what she said it made him think deeply about these things. "That means a lot to me Cara.... Cara... I..." He choked on his words
A massive explosion took out the eastern gate of the town, screaming echoed out shortly after. "I know you are here dumbass!" his bionic side whirred and cranked in response to his heavy physical activities of breaking the gate with his bare hands. Both arms were bionic, the man was entirely bald as well, his eyes were both glowing a deep red as they focused in around the area. He grabbed a random bystander, "Have you seen this man!?" he held the picture up yet again, but it wasn't a picture of Nex... It was a picture ... Of the Mayor. The man pointed up toward the mayor's house further up from where they are, the bionic giant throwing him aside and walking toward the house. "Come out come out whereever you are..." his arm suddenly converted to a cannon as he took baby steps closer to the house... Hoping he could catch his head poking out from any nook... Any cranny... Just so he could pop it where it showed itself. |
