Admittedly, the gods were confused at the sound of the word 'car'.
"What is a car?" Audreyllis asked Bernadetta, "is it a vehicle?"
"Like a chariot?" Nezzarade added.

Aviena looked about for the faintest trace of Saelin. He was notoriously difficult to find, but she felt like her heart could possibly lead the way. Still, she couldn't find him anywhere near the area they were searching. She hated how alone she felt without the protection of her little brother. She missed him, even though their separation had been brief so far. But still, how was he coping in this strange new world? This place had technology that even the gods could not comprehend.

Audreyllis had similar worries about Locyrex. A dramatic show of power was usually how he handled simple situations, and he was sure it would not be good to inform humans or vampires of their being there. He hoped that the King of Winter had enough common sense to make himself discreet...

"You don't know what a car is?" Bernadetta ask in disbeleif. "How can you... nevermind. Yes, I suppose it is a... a little like a chariot. But with no horses. It's like... a big metal thing, in colors, with four wheels. And... um. There's seets on the inside, and a wheel you use to turn it. Like... like, on a ship! A little. I think. Maybe that's a bad example. Faye, is that a bad example?"

Faye shook her head and shrugged, and amused smile tugging at the edges of her lips. "Well then," Bernadetta continued hesitantly, "It's, um... it moves, but it's not pulled by horses. It's an engine that makes it go... Oh, dear. Do you three know what an engine is, at least?"

"Engine?" The gods looked at each other, confused.
"Oh, we don't use horses for our Chariots," Nezzarade explained, "only mortals do. We use Gyri birds. They're about a tenth the size of a Roc."

Audreyllis was very excited to see this 'car' Bernadetta spoke of. He assumed that they didn't use bird power either, and that these 'engines' were somehow powering the device, but what did they use? Water? Magic?

"What do these cars run on?" Audreyllis asked, "Do you use spells to make it move?" It was all very curious stuff! He couldn't wait to go back home and tell his friends, mortal and immortal alike, about these incredible things. Perhaps they could begin copying and manufacturing things the people in this world had. Cars did sound awfully convienient...

"Oh, my," Bernadetta allowed herself to appear dismayed for a moment. "Well, I suppose if we don't have things like... Gyri birds and Rocs, it's no wonder you've never heard of cars or engines or flashlights."

Good heavens, these gods were raising questions she didn't know how to explain! Cars and lights were just... there. She took them for granted, how did you explain that to people who had no idea what they were dealing with? Even the poorer Souther hemisphere had seen pictures of the 'luxuries of the northerners'. She wondered how she would even begin to describe phones and music players and computers when they came up...

"An engine is..." Bernadetta hesitated, "It runs on fuel. Most people use oil, so I guess that's the most simple one to explain. You know oil, right? I don't think it would be singular to... this world, I guess. It's underground, it comes from pressure being put on decomposed organisms for a long time. ...I think. Mother always says I never paid enough attention to my science tutors..."
