Matthew came running out to Allie only minutes before the bell rang. "Let me walk you to your next class?" He asked, then noted her sour mood. "Allie, what's wrong?" He asked. "Is your leg hurting?" Matthew knew he must look pathetic, groveling to her like this, but he found that he didn't care.
"Matt? Aren't you going to walk me to class?" Adeline called. "Uh, sorry." He called. "I was just going to walk Allie." |
Allie looked over at him, looking down, not paying attention to him. "I am fine.." she said softly. "don't worry about me.." she said standing up getting ready to go to his next class. Looking over seeing barbie watching them, hissing to herself, but gasping as he said no to her. She looked at him in shock, speechless.
"Please let me walk you?" He asked, looking down at Allie. "We have chemistry next." He said. "Would you like me to carry your books?" He offered.
Allie looked over at him "okay..." she said softly. Looking up at him she shook her head. "I can carry my own books thank you though" she still had a bit of edge on her voice. Maybe he was actually being nice to her because some part of him liked her. The other side of him, could just be doing this cause she was the new girl who just broke her leg. Sighing she looked up at him.
Matthew had to stop himself from smiling to wide and risking looking like an idiot. He opened the door for Allie, following her out of the gym. "How are you at chemistry?" He asked, mentally slapping himself for sounding so lame. "I, uh, I mean most people find it difficult but I rather like it. Its like another math class." He said. Great, worst impression ever...
Allie sighed walking with him, she was so off balance, her books making it hard to keep walking without the crutches. She was so unsure right now, the other night said a lot about him. "I like science..me personally I hate math..but anyway tell me about this note I gave you?" She said with a fake smile. She had to find out what that nurse did while she was out.
"It said that you were going to be okay and that I should go back to Pulse." He said, noticing how off balance she was. "Are you sure you don't want me to carry your books?" He asked. "You look like you're going to fall again. That would be irony at its best." He smirked.
Allie looked over at him, stopped walking. "I never was able to write you... they wouldn't let me write to you.." Sighing she shook her head but tripped grabbing the wall a moment, not falling, but slamming her leg into the wall. Shutting her eyes tight at the sudden spike of pain, she wobbled and fell backward.
Matthew dropped his books and held out his arms, catching her so that they looked they had been ballroom dancing and he had simply dipped her. "We need to work on that sense of balance." He said with a smile. He stood there for a moment longer then he should've, holding her in his arms before he was hit by reality. He quickly put her back on her feet, pretending nothing had happened.
"I'm carrying you're books." He said, picking up her books as well as his own. "We don't need you hurting yourself anymore." |
Allie wrapped her arms around his neck as he caught her. Looking up into his eyes smiling, giggling softly at the joke. For a moment she was completely happy. Suddenly back on her feet, wobbling a moment before steadying herself. She saw him picked up her book, smiling with a nod she began to walk again. "thank you.."
Matthew continued to walk with Allie, making their way to the chemistry lab. "I reserved you a study table yesterday after school at the library. Trust me. You'll thank me during midterms when the library is swarmed and you have your own desk." He said, opening the door for Allie that led out into the courtyard.
Allie looked at him "oh yea.. thanks" the first time he left, after I told him not too. She sighed again looking at him nodding. Would things ever be the same between them again? Sighing again she walked into the door going outside. Outside had uneven ground. Gulping she walked a bit slower not wanting to fall. She should have gotten her crutches.
Matthew offered his arm to her, hoping to help her sense of balance. "Are you alright?" He asked, then smirked at his unintentional joke. "I mean besides the broken leg."
Allie looked over at him with a fake smile "well I am supposed to be using my crutches..." she said softly as she took his arm. "Yea, besides the leg, everything is fantastic, wonderful." She was being sarcastic, she was in so much trouble at home for going to school, she just bashed her broken leg. Sighing she looked over at him.
"What's wrong?" He asked, his eyebrows raised. He hoped that she hadn't heard about him and Adeline. He hated that Adeline didn't know how to shut her mouth about their business. Did she really have to tell everyone at school what had happened? He was about at his wit's end with her.
Allie looked over at him sighing "nothing don't worry.." she said trying to manage a smile. Walking into the room, giving the teacher the note, then taking the seat next to Matthew, taking her books from him. She took out her notebook sighing, looking forward.
Matthew only half listened as the teacher rambled on about molecules and other things Matthew wasn't paying much attention to. His mind wandered to Allie through nearly the entire class. He couldn't understand why she was upset. Had he done something. Or worse, had Adeline. Matthew wasn't sure why it bothered him so much when Allie was upset but he decided against fighting it. He was more of a go with the flow kind of guy.
Finally, the bell rang and he made his way to Allie's desk. "You have music next. The classroom is right down the stairs on your left. I have a break so I'll be in the library. Try not to break anything else." He added with a wink before taking off for the library, where he found a fuming Adeline. |
Allie was good at this stuff, they had a surprise quiz and she nailed it. Watching him talk quickly, then leave, she checked her schedule. She had a break next class to. Sighing she stood up and went back outside. So maybe he didn't want to be around her after all, he did just run back to his girlfriend. Laying on the bench one knee up, her broken leg swinging, she shut her eyes, sighed softly into the oncoming rain. She had about an hour free, so no one would come out here, it was raining and all the classrooms outside were closed. She was alone.
"I want a word with you Matthew." Adeline said before dragging him off to the stacks, a very private part of the library. "What were you thinking about leaving me in gym today?" She asked, furious.
"I was being helpful to Allie. What were you thinking about telling the entire school about what happened last night? Unlike you, I'm not in this relationship for bragging rights. In fact I'm not entirely sure why I'm in this relationship at all!" Matthew hissed angrily. "What do you mean you don't know why you're in this relationship?" Adeline asked, taken a back for a moment before regaining composure. "Maybe you're not the only unhappy one here. I'm sure there are plenty of guys who are more then willing to take your place." She spat, knowing it was an empty threat. She would never leave Matthew. "Oh be my guest. Have all the guys you want, Adeline. We're done. Over. Finished." Matthew said angrily. Adeline's mouth popped open into a small 'o'. No one dumped her. She stomped her foot angrily before taking off. Adeline crossed the courtyard, arms crossed over her new faux fur Gucci jacket. She spotted the new girl, giving her a hard glare. "This is all your fault!" She yelled at Allie. "If you hadn't come here he'd still be mine! You ruined everything." She spat before taking off for Building 4. |
Allie jumped at the sound of heels, great it was her she thought as she walked along the courtyard. What she said made no sence. "I have no idea what your talking about.." she said softly. For once she had no idea why she was being yelled at. What did she do? She was ignoring him, being a complete jerk to him. How was this her fault? "hey what is your problem? What did I do now?" she said sitting up.
"If you hadn't come here, Matthew wouldn't have left me. You're pathetic, what ever he finds attractive in you is absurd." Adeline looked the girl up and down before running her hand through her red hair. "He's obviously a lost cause. Maybe its better I'm through with him." She said, deciding it was better for her reputation if everyone thought she had dumped Matt.
~-~-~ Matthew made his way towards the courtyard, the clean air getting rid of his headache. He spotted the two girls and quickly jumped behind the nearest tree. What was Adeline doing? Couldn't she leave the poor girl alone? |
Allie stood up, standing a bit wobbly on her leg. "I had no idea he left you.." she said quietly. If she knew that, she would have treated him nicer. "I am pathetic? I am not the one calling a handicap girl pathetic." she said with a small grin. She could go full out on her but she was tired. Then smiling turning it around on him "I thought he dumped you.. those were your words right.. If I wasn't here..." She paused, she saw some people coming in the courtyard. This was her chance. She could totally ruin her and yet.."your going to be late for your next class.. you better hurry" she said with a fake smile. She had no idea why she just saved her butt.
Adeline stormed off to class in a rush to tell her friends what a loser Matthew was and such. Matthew poked his head out from behind the tree and walked up to Allie. "Hi." He murmured as he reached her. "You okay? You look a little unstable." He said with a devilish grin.
Allie watched her go, turning around to come face to face with Matthew. He didn't seem to upset for someone who just broke up. "hi.." Looking at him curiously "I am okay.. I think" she looked behind her "I have the bench to fall on if I loose too much control" she said with a small smile.
Matthew smiled at her joke. "What class do you have next?" He asked, pretending not to remember her time table despite his photographic memory.
