"Ugh, sex in blood..." he thought aloud, then Cain added what he caught, "You all?" Cain got the feeling more than ever there was something Kesed wasn't letting him in on. But how exactly does one ask about that, 'So, what is it you are hiding from me, my friend?' Cain mused, 'Or, "I know you're hiding something! What is it?!"' It wasn't that important to ruin a nice lunch and good conversation over... Right? 'Nah...' he thought.

"It's when you are not normal by strange standards that you have to worry about..." he said before adding, "But if you cannot accpet yourself, chances are, no one else will anyway, then you will really be strange. And hey, I may not have a whole lot of friends, but the whol two I have I happen to be very fond of!" he said, mock-yelling, "And no, I was not including my imaginary ones in those two." he laughed. Cain had the idea Kesed was teasing him to get rid of him, but then he figured, 'If he wanted to leave it is not like I am stopping him...'

To Kesed's nodding and agreement, he couldn't say or do much but nod back and smiled.

There was definately something off about this.. Besides the obvious signs, wearing a priest collar for funeral attire? The only one who did that was the priest. Instead of calling him out on it this time either, he played along, "Well, next time, I am sure you will remember to think of it."

Cain looked up to meet Kesed's eyes, then answered, "It is not very impressive or anything, but I am a fisherman on a small boat near here. Other than that, I just volunteer at the church. I love it though- both of those things." He smiled.

      • Kesed chuckled light at the response once more. It was very similar to theirs.. just in a different way. ‘Ugh… sex in blood.. how tacky.’ It was hard to be disturbed when blood didn’t even feel disgusting to you in the first place. When it was a part of your natural life… it was hard to not get used to it and just find it distasteful rather than puke-worthy. Kesed perked up to the question and smiled and nodded back. ”Yeah, other spectators. Ya know; people who also knew of the story. You’re not the only one in the world who has an interesting in those kinds of things, you know.” He reminded very lightly. So not a lie! Just because you were there didn’t make you any less of a spectator—it actually made him think you were more of one, even if you didn’t like it.

Kesed chuckle a bit at the explanation. ”Very true.” People, as unintelligent as they could be, could tell if a person was not comfortable with themselves for miles. It was actually what killed relationships more so than how people looked. If someone was gorgeous and unconfident versus lacking in beauty and yet filled to the brim with confidence, the people would choose the person who was proud over beautiful. Charisma. It’s just something that people were drawn to.
Now for the first time Kesed almost laughed out loud, much like Cain had done a bit ago where it was very loud, luckily enough, his closed mouth caught it into his nose and… actually turned it into a bit of a chuckle snort. ”Oh I see. How many friends would it be including the imaginary ones?” He played back to the other. He wasn’t really making fun of him… really… he wasn’t… okay, maybe a little—but only because he’d been there before!

Mentally he agreed and sighed greatly with relief. Thank god that he was buying it. I mean; how obvious was it that Thomas was a priest back then? You’d probably have to be drunk or way, way out of it to not get it. Lack of mealing could have confused him if he hadn’t known exactly what he was doing there when he was there. ”I’ll be sure to do that. Now I feel a little bit embarrassed for being so informal at that time.” He laughed a bit nervously. Um… yeah.. it was time to let that go before he pushed it too far and Cain actually got suspicious. What a way to ruin lunch, eh?

Kesed smiled gently as he heard what Chris was now doing with his life. Somehow… it sounded very like him… although Kesed didn’t really know him anymore. ”Sounds very modest.” He said. ”So if you always fish and volunteer, what do you do with your free time?” He asked as he found himself interested in it like most people wouldn’t be. Most people nowadays were.. not friends with churches unless they shared religion. Kesed could sort of say he was religious but he wasn’t. Like he knew from proof what was what, but he didn’t really know what to do with it. If he couldn’t even be around Jesus back then because he’d turn to dust, how would it change now. There was really no use for religion from where he thought about it—at least not to vampires. He didn’t know why they were even created to end like he assumed they did, but didn’t try to fight it.

Cain nodded, "Oh, I know other people know about this sort of stuff. I just was not aware so many people acted like they were buddies from college with them, like you." he retorted, smiling. Cain could have a quick and witty quip just as well as Kesed. He was enjoying getting to use his sarcastic talents.

He caught on at Kesed's almost full out laugh, which instilled a small amount of pride in Cain. He smiled wide, "Three-hundred and sixty-two! But, as I said, that's only including the imaginary." Cain enjoyed make Kesed laugh... It was entertaining to watch him hold it back as hard as he did. Though, inwardly, Cain wondered why he held it back at all. 'It is not as if he has fangs under there or anything,' he laughed inwardly.

Cain shrugged, "It was an honest mistake. I am sure you will not make it again." he smiled a bit, then let the subject go. He didn't want Kesed to know he was onto whatever he was being so suspiscious about, and Cain's playing dumb seemed to suit Kesed just fine. Perhaps, when it was conveinient, he might bring it up...

"I try to avoid free time." Cain answered shortly. The waiter came back with Kesed's water and Cain's large, almost bowl-like, cup of coffee with milk. "Merci." he said to the waiter.
Two good things about living in France: 1. not too many cars, and 2. they served coffee like it was going out of style: in large amounts. It made Cain smile to think that, even to hear it formulated in his head that way, it made him laugh out loud without meaning to.

      •  Kesed laughed lightly. He realized that he was being very informal and not distant when he talked about them… but was that really how he was treating it? Like they were buddy’s back in college—Well. That wasn’t too far from the truth most of the time. ”Is that so? It always felt so common with the people I was around.” He chuckled lightly to himself. ”I actually find it a bit strange now when people speak of them so formally.” He said in all honesty. Maybe his connection to them hadn’t been, but this definitely was. He didn’t hold as high regards for those people as it seemed the human’s did. They were so sickly impressed by people could kill and they didn’t even see it as an obsession. Kind of funny considering people didn’t get that excited for animal slaughter.

The raven haired vampire smiled greatly and once more covered his mouth by sticking his chin in the palm of his hand. ”Three hundred and sixty-two? I hope you can remember all of their names.” He commented, ”Because if I were one of them, I know how depressed I’d be if you couldn’t remember little ol’ me.” He said as he let his hand drop to bring out a bit of a pouty lip. He didn’t need to cover, really—he figured, unless he was in a very superstitious town like Salem, people quite often nowadays had fangs, whether they were naturally or they went to the dentist, it really wasn’t uncommon—his were just a bit larger than most—and they were on the top.. and bottom… Something that was also specific to purebloods.

Now as they finally moved on past that little slip of the tongue, Kesed felt himself become insanely relaxed. So it hadn’t been as bad as it could have. He could have accidentally called him Chris after all—or said something even more suspicious when talking about Jack and Stumpp and them that made it sound like more than just familiarity.
Kesed’s eyebrows rose in surprise at the new information, but his attention was quickly pulled away to the waiter who had returned with their drinks. He offered a kind smile as he also thanked the man for delivering the liquids before he returned his attention to Cain. ”Why would you try and avoid free time?” He asked. This came as a surprise to Kesed and kind of… absurd since his life by now as mostly just free time based. If he got really needed, graveyard shifts, but not for the money, just for something to do. Over the millenniums one picks up a number of belongings that he can keep and by today.. would be called antiques. His favorite would always be his collection he has for the evolution of cameras—not that he took pictures all that often anyways.

"Serial killers deserve to be treated formally, as an act to distance them from outselves." He answered, his voice low, "People who kill for fun and become obsessed with the euphoria of the power that comes with it are not people at all."

Cain laughed and answered, "I remember the ones who have names," he answered, "but some of them do not like people names so the go by noises or something like that to distinguish themselves." He smiled again. Cain waspretty good at making up stories on the spot, and he knew it. Maybe it was from all the years working with children at the church.

His hair fell into his face, and automatically, he blew it upward and out of the way of his eyes with a sudden breath. "It is another long story, and a bit of how do you say... Sob story?" he answered, "It goes back to the parents thing. I was hiding."

      • ”Consider—“ Kesed cut himself off. He better not go there. Cain’s voice had lowered to an unsettling sound. He might have been getting on his nerves now with that last statement, as true as it may have been, he could not be formal with those people. For reasons different than as the other was stating. If he brought up the fact the other was so interested in them that he might not be a whole lot better—he’s intrigued by stories of people who kill for fun. Kesed never claimed that he was good or even pretended that he was, but he liked to pretend that he wasn’t as bad as them. ”In my own beliefs, by treating them formally, you’re only feeding the ego and giving them respect. In their cases, I don’t believe they deserved respect. Even if you want to keep your distance from them, when people knew what they were doing, they couldn’t help but want to get closer. People can’t help but want to know them even when they say they don’t approve. You can’t keep your distance from people like them because it comes and haunts you. What you have to do is shut them down. By keeping distance you simply disagree with their beliefs and keep yourself from getting interested in the things they are doing. How much better are you if you sit and enjoy watching them because of how their minds work?” He offered that… slightly bigger part of his mind than he really wanted to. He wasn’t defending Jack or Stumpp or Bundy. Kesed was in fact in the number that went out of his way to avoid them when it was learned what they were doing. Someone else took them all down and because he didn’t act, like most vampires who were ashamed of them, much more blood was wasted than needed.

In a way, you could say the vampire economy went down.

Now Kesed hadn’t been upset by such an issue that had started out so very light and was quickly becoming more intense, but he definitely took a second to cool his brain out of that topic. ”That’s not a little strange.” He replied, a bit less animatedly than before. He wasn’t displeased with Cain or anything, but he was still working on getting out of that irritating train. The one that was filled with blood that would remind him of the smell, and the heat, and the taste, and that he wanted some. Shit his appetite was wetting. His teeth were starting to prepare themselves. Knock it off.

He needed to get his head out of that place. At least for now. He could find someone delicious to swallow later—besides, how shameful would it be if he could not contain himself? He, a 2000 plus year old pureblood.
The idea of a long story quickly made the vampire’s heart jump—well, would have. ”A sob story? Everyone has their own mountain of those.” He didn’t mean to sound rude or like he was making fun, but he told it how he saw it. He had his own which, he himself wouldn’t think that sad, but other’s might go ‘aww’ to. ”I won’t mind listening if you wanted to talk about it.” He stated with a calm, friendly voice like before.

He folded his hands together, interlacing his fingers, placing his elbows on the table and hiding his mouth behind his hands- he was biting the skin and flesh of his left index finger, but did not... for some reason, he did not want Kesed to see it. He let go finally as he spoke, "Funny. I think you'll enjoy this one, seeing as it ties so well into our first conversation..." His voice was still low, but it wasn't quite as low as it could go, but it was getting there. It took quite a bit to make Cain angry, but this struck a nerve; this did it. He looked up, his expression blank, but Cain could practically see the anger in his own eyes through feeling them, "At first, when I was younger I kept myself busy to forget the past, now, I have to keep myself busy to hide from it. My parents did not just die, they were murdered; a sight I have seen every night- every single night- for the past twenty years. I can hear my mother and my father, I can see their faces. The blood. The screams. All of it is completely vivid, even now. I was there when they were killed." He took a breath, the burning in his chest was a familiar one, but after so many years, he learned to silence it, or at least numb himself to it enough where he thought it was silenced. "I have to hide from the pain, and I have to hide from it because last time I tried facing it, I ended up in the ER with quite the nastey knife wound. So before you make the statement 'Considering you are so interested in them,' in your condescending tone, that yes, I picked up on, remember that the only thing I have ever killed was not human and it was not on purpose, and I still feel remorse for what I did; I did not enjoy killing it."

      • Kesed sat back with a slight smile on his face as he watched the other. He folded his hands nicely into his lap as he let his back lean against the back of the chair. His smile wasn’t as friendly as it had been, but a little smug like a businessman’s would be as he invited the other to tell him another story. Stories could be both horrible or wonderful things. They were built off of memories that could also go either way. A person’s feelings could then effect a story, even if it was entirely sad, if the person had happy memories, it would turn into a happy story and the same could be said the other way around. In a way, Kesed was anxious to hear just what story he was going to be told now; though he had never considered that this dislike for free time would have been because of back then. If he had thought of that, he probably would not have asked to hear the story.

There was a cold part of Kesed heart that he had to keep the reins on tightly as he listened. That part of him that really could have cared less. People died; don’t get him wrong. Kesed loved Chris like he was one of his own, but at some point, you had to get over it. Kesed was a cold-hearted killer, after all. He would kill people for a meal, and he would kill people to make things better in his general area, and he had friends who would do that—they weren’t racist though. If a vampire was causing an issue, yes, there would be the death of a vampire, but he wasn’t so innocent either. And in a way; he could relate to Chris in this way. Chris’s parents were killed by vampires and Kesed’s parents were killed by humans—during a witch hunt! His mother had been burned at the stake! Kesed was lucky that he had gotten out of there, but at the time, he didn’t know if he really wanted to—and as he matured, he moved on, or so he liked to think so.
This is what brought Kesed to have to try so hard not to tell him to shut up and get over it. There was always useless bloodshed and things people didn’t like to deal with it, but brooding over it silently didn’t fix things like the human’s thought it did.

Kesed bit on his own lip to force himself out of saying that he had been there as well. He knew it wasn’t the right thing to toss in. He could just imagine the reaction he would get. ”Hurting yourself is no better than hurting someone else. To put less value on it because it’s you is idiotic.” Kesed forced out his mouth. He found it kind of interesting how the other could say he felt so guilty about killing a bird when he was a child and now he will openly order a bird to eat in public. Don’t get Kesed wrong, he didn’t really approve of vegetarians because he didn’t understand them, but he felt it sounded a little hypocritical to him. ”Or was the knife wound perhaps not because of your own idiocy?” Which at the moment the vampire found that hard to believe it could be possibly be that way. The only reason he felt like he was actually able to talk like this was because he had been so comfortable with Chris. He still had those old feelings and they weren’t going to just disappear no matter how far apart Chris had grown due to the separation. He was still that little guy, that in a way, had saved him when he needed it. The idea of the boy hurting himself---just did not sit well at all within Kesed’s mind.

Cain scoffed, "I didn't do it to myself...." The idea Cain would hurt himself was proposterous entirely. As if the emotional pain of watching his parents die when he was three years old wasn't bad enough, he was supposed to hurt himself physically on top of it? Bof! ...And for Kesed to play it off like it was no big thing... That hurt worse. He'd liked Kesed, but he saw now that that fact was irrelevant. He hadn't been looking for pity. He told this story to this guy because he thought he could trust him; that trust was betrayed now.
"What a waste of time this was." he said, standing up, he pulled a few euros out of his pocket to cover his coffee, "I will see you around. I rather hope not." He walked toward the door, thanking the waiter on his way out.

      • Kesed’s mind suddenly stopped. He made an assumption that he knew, if it was wrong, would make him look like an asshole. Truth be told, he really could be an asshole and most of the time he really didn’t care, but this.. this was different. This was.. this was not some random person he met at a bar that felt shitty for themselves, this was Chris catching Kesed up on things that he’d missed in his life when he left him behind. He had to leave him behind. That lovely ‘oh shit’ face of his returned, but in a much more surprised than before when Cain actually moved to get up from the table. ’Oh shit!’ actually ran through his very train of thought.
He quickly pulled himself up to his feet just as the Euros smacked against the table. Shit, shit! What was he supposed to say?! He couldn’t just grab him by the arm! That would probably provoke him further AND get him in trouble with the staff at this restaurant! Damn it! What did he do when Chris was a kid? How did he fix it when he upset him?

These thoughts were cut short as Cain had gotten ahead of Kesed and already started towards the door. Shit! Why didn’t this happen more often so he could know how to react when it’s important?! ”Chris wait!” He blurted out from the table where he stood in front of his chair. ”You left it so vague! What was I supposed to think?” The words just came out pushed by his desperation to somehow stall the other, though he didn’t know if it would even work—hell if he even remembers what his old name used to be. A frustrated looked play off of his face. Frustrated with his own thoughts and how they were compiling. He wasn’t being smooth… Perhaps because he was having to lie more than normal it was harder to play—but what was he supposed to do?

Because telling the truth was obviously out of the equation.

Cain stopped dead in his tracks, "W-what did you just call me?" he asked turn around. The only thing he heard: Chris. "I did not tell you tha- How did you know to call me by that name?" He asked. He didn't know what to think anymore, the thoughts racing all over.

He wanted to stay angry and walk away, but at the same time, he was glued where he was, out of shock and fear. How could this stranger know my name?, Cain asked himself, The familiarity I felt when they met, could that have something to do with it?

He stood, looking at Kesed, flabbergasted.

      • Kesed swallowed slightly and remained completely still where he stood. When he was questioned back, the vampire didn’t care answer or say it again. He hadn’t consciously called him that—it wasn’t some dirty tactic to see if he would stop, he just desperately wanted him to stop and the name he currently went by… just wasn’t in Kesed’s head. What kind of explanation could he give for that anyways? [i]’Oh, yeah, I knew you when you were this big.’, ’oh! Right~! Didn’t I tell you? I took care of you for three months twenty years ago! …. Surprise!’, ’Oh.. didn’t I tell you? I’m psychic!’… Truth or lie… It was going to come out if he gave any explanation.

Like a deer caught in the headlights he stood silently as his brain fought to think of how he would reply and it was coming up with absolutely nothing. ’Oh! I thought it was obvious!’. ”I told you; I’ve been here before.” Kesed said and let his eyes easily wonder away. ”We ran into each other at that time.” That’s his explanation. He didn’t look too young—absolutely not the same age that Cain was—he could pass as a bit older than him if you thought he was only twenty-something, right? It could make sense—but dear god do NOT involve Thomas in this…

"Even if we ran into each other, there is no way you could know that name. The only ones who know about that name are me, two of the nuns, Father Thomas and the one..." He trailed off, his voice getting lower, "the one who gave me that name.." This didn't make sense; Cain couldn't make sense of it. "You are too young, you cannot be him... How do you know...? Be honest this time. I know you've been hiding something. Not recognizing a priests' collar. You know him, and you know more than you're telling me. I want answers."

      • Why did it seem like all of the sudden he was regretting that Chris wasn’t drunk? Or that Chris was smart enough to catch onto him? You know, he was proud that Kris wasn’t a dumb nut like a large population of the people, but now… it really wasn’t in Kesed’s best interest if he wanted to keep that firmly placed distance between hi m and Chris. Well—Chris still thought he was lying completely, so maybe he could come up with something. ”Fine; you know.. I knew a guy who couldn’t stop talking about this kid he met in Marseilles. He took care of him for a while and eventually had to leave him behind, but even when I met him, he was still bragging about him. He was saying how cute he was and how sweet he was and ‘Chris this’ and ‘Chris that’. I spent a while around that guy and so all of that talk got stuck in my head. My asking you out wasn’t by chance, it’s because when I saw you I was reminded of that kid he told me about; and just now was a slip of the tongue. That’s all.” He explained the newest theory that came to mind. He didn’t know if it would work, but it had to work better than saying that he was the one from then that took care of him. That he was a vampire and so he didn’t age and add more shit to that.

Kesed didn’t even imagine getting to that. They were in a public place, conversing across the room, he was not about to say something like that to this room full of people. He didn’t feel like getting chased out of town yet. ”Are you satisfied?” He asked with a bit of a rundown sound in his voice. That’s what he had become—That’s what this situation had become. If there was any more disbelief or questions, he would have to go somewhere else… even if he didn’t decide to answer truthfully.

"I think it's time to leave. Both of us." he said, looking passed Kesed to the two gentlemen who had been staring him down before. "Now." He was all worked up and really didn't need a physical fight right now, and from the looks of those guys, they were getting really close to getting into one. "We can finish whatever this is later."

      • Kesed was the stronger one out of the two of them; but he still ended up being the one to concede. Cain was right, they needed to leave—especially if there was going to be any more questions. Though with the look in the other’s eyes, it didn’t seem like that was what was what was brothering him, but more other patrons that were in the restaurant. ”Fine, fine. Let’s go then.” He said quickly. If he’d had a beating heart it would probably be quicker with adrenaline that would have been running through his body by now.

The tone of voice had been something that easily swayed Kesed to move. Commanding tones always seemed to get to him, even in arguments because he trusted other peoples judgment over his own more often than not. Kesed started to walk to catch up with Cain and then easily just walked passed him as he headed for the door. ”Did you have anywhere in mind that you wished to finish this?” He asked with a bit of a serpentine sound coming into his ironed out voice as he turned at the door to look at the boy. The sun wasn’t as bright as it could have been, but he didn’t want to be out in it longer than necessary… And humans had this tendency to be indecisive… especially when they were travelling—sometimes he wasn’t that much better though.

"We're going to the Family house. It is the only place we can possibly get any privacy to finish this." he answerd. The Family House was near the church, runned by the church for families in need, it was sort of like a homeless shelter for men and women with children. It opened up not long after Cain was left at the church's door. There was a room there, treated sort of like an office that they could probably use that.

      • Oh shit… a family house… please to the God in heaven make it one that was nowhere near the church that he had left Chris in the first place. If they went there, there was a higher possibility of running into Thomas or either of those nuns and then the jig would be up—Like he said. He wasn’t ashamed of being a vampire, it was his heritage and all, but he… didn’t know how Chris would react… and it wasn’t something that went over well once it got spread around. ”Look; can we forget about the things I said when we were in there? I didn’t meant to call you that.” He said with little desperation in his voice, but a very smooth sound. He needed to change Chris’s mind before this got out of hand. Like very… very out of hand.

”If we take like, a five minute breather, you know everything’ll be back to normal. It was just a slip of the tongue, you know? Seriously—we were both a little bit worked up and I don’t entirely remember what was said anyways.” Why the hell did he suddenly feel like a teenager trying to bail himself out of trouble? Because that’s seriously what it sounded like to him as he heard his own words leave his lips and enter his ears as he brought himself to follow Cain. His hands were shoved into the pockets of his jeans to make less exposed skin and his head bowed a bit to use some of his hair to veil his bare face just in case they ended up being out here longer than expected—he didn’t know how far this church was from this building anyways, and they were probably going to be sticking to walking.. walking… so slow.

Cain finally turned and looked at him, "You called me Chris. I cannot forget that so easily. You knew the person who took care of me. I want to know more. You said he told you a lot, that you were friends. I want to know who he is, or at least what he was like." he was pleading now, "Please.."

He had to know. He wasn't completely sure it wasn't Kesed, but he had to figure out what was going on. One way or another, he had to know.

      • It was like walking to a death sentence. He knew that he was in trouble. He knew that his grave was only getting deeper and deeper, in a very bad way. This kid was bright enough… There was no doubt in Kesed’s mind that he was going to get pointed at with the accusation that he was that guy from back then—but then he’d wondered about his aging, and then eventually it would come out—or Thomas was gonna say something if they ran into him—or either of those nuns. They hadn’t liked him too much… even when he’d done such a thing as bring a human child in when he could have just eaten him up. Children had softer, more tender skin than adults and was like a treat.

Still, the fact that he knew this didn’t stop him from going. I mean; did you hear that pleading in his voice? It was so cute! Kesed was melting on the inside. He wanted to jump on him and tell him how cute he was! But that would be strange coming from him and he knew it would be too overly strange to come from him right now…. ”Why do you want to know about him? Compared to how long you’ve lived now, he hardly took care of you at all, ya know? Hell, he even left you behind while you slept when he said he’d stay with you. Why do you want to know about a guy like that?” He asked, maybe.. there was a possibility to talk him down out of wondering…. Unlikely, but possible. ”He hasn’t even come back. He’d be like what? Forty-something by now? He hasn’t sent you letters or anything, right? So why does it matter that much?”

Cain wanted to get there as fast as he could, he had to know whatever Kesed could tell him. He stopped walking though, and looked at Kesed, "I just.. I have to know what he was like. I cannot remember much of him, and I wish I did. I know he abandoned me, but he still cared enough for a short while to take care of me. So, I just want to remember what he looked like; a face to match the voice, which I cannot even completely remember... I just need to know..." He said, his voice trailing here and there, "Have you never felt that way about someone? The need to know what they are like, and how they are..."

He had worried about these questions for many, many years. He needed to know. He had this irrational need to know...

      • Aw man… He had to keep making this harder and harder… Kesed didn’t want to get into explanations—well, he did already have a damn good explanation of how he looked compiled nicely in his head. Take a bit of a compliment from here and something someone said there and viola; ego-filled, self-loving explanation. But Cain scared him very briefly there with the idea of matching voices. How could he possibly have a different voice than he did twenty years ago? That phase of his life was over—he only kind of remember it which was nice, but if the rest of it came back as he was reminded of it… that would so not be good. ”Not really.” He said out in a very light, none-serious voice. This was of course a lie, but with how he was and how he was supposed to be, he really couldn’t let himself fall into mushy talk like that, ya know?

Over the years he’d met more than a handful of people that he had to leave behind because his aging wasn’t keeping up with theirs, and he wondered until the day that he heard they died, how they were doing and then that shifted to how they did. This was no different for Chris. ”But I can try and help ya with as little as I know. The guy liked his privacy.” He kept that light tone from before. As bad as he felt and in trouble as he felt, there was a slightly better feeling inside of him because Chris was no longer angry at him. ”But hey, didn’t you ever ask Thomas about him at some point?” He asked a bit carelessly—”I mean, the guy told me that he spoke with the father for a bit before he left.” Kesed wondered, even if he was a vampire--obviously Thomas kept that information away from Chris along with just about everything else. If he could have, the church probably would have ridded Chris of his memories with him all together, but obviously that didn't happen.

Cain sighed, but smiled, "I asked them many times; Father Thomas and the nuns... The nuns hit me with a ruler whenever I asked, how stereotypical, no?" he laughed a little, "Father Thomas was a bit more willing to give me information. He told me the man was different than most people, 'a very special sort of man', he said, which was why he wouldn't keep me. He also told me that it was sort of surprising someone like him saved me and kept me for so long, taking care of me, and even more surprising that he left me with someone else to take care of me- which I am not sure what that meant. What else would he have done when he did not want me anymore; kill me?" He laughed a bit, "He would not have done that, I knew he would not."

Cain realized they had better hurry up, "We better get going. I'd like to get there before everyone starts heading to the church. If we do not make it before a certain group gets to the church, we are not going to make it there. It's not much further anyway. It's a block away from St. Anne's."

      • Kesed listened and analyzed as he heard what he did. It wasn’t surprising that they hadn’t gone right out and told him. Religious people especially didn’t like his kind—when he’d first shown up with the child, they were afraid of what they were going to do to him ’in the house of God’. For a while, he pretended to be normal and spoke with Father Thomas since the nuns really weren’t too keen on the idea of a vampire hanging out in the church, but… he had to stay until Chris had fallen asleep and he could finally leave; so they all pretended. It hadn’t been a long time since the boy was so small and the travel there had been a bit long for a three year old.
A slightly dark chuckle came from the vampire’s lips. He couldn’t help but be amused from how close the other had hit home and yet took it as if it were a joke. ”Yeah, something like that.” He commented and kept with his friendly tone.

Kesed could not doubt that the boy, even at his young age had a lot of courage. He might have saved him, but Cain approached him first and stayed there even when a threat was presented—he didn’t even look fearful—he probably hadn’t understood it back then like he could now. ”He said, kids can be waaaay too trusting sometimes. Especially you.” Kesed tossed in there, just as a little tidbit from his own passing thoughts on the boy.

However, when he was told they needed to seriously hurry on up, Kesed did start to walk at a bit of a better pace, but he was brought to wonder… ”What exactly is everyone heading to the church for?” He felt like he should have known, from being around for so long, but he couldn’t help but wonder if it were some different kind of ritual than he had seen—he didn’t understand why they wouldn’t be allowed in if everyone was at the church. Surely the boy who sort of worked there would know of a way in. If not; well… vampires could always fit themselves through nice little holes somehow, couldn’t they?

"He would not have hurt me. I thought not, anyway, I think I knew him enough back then... Who knows though, right? If he did not care enough about me that he could leave me with strangers, then maybe he could have killed me." Cain sighed, walking on.

He blinked a few times and laugh, "I suppose that is true." he smiled, "I know I trusted him quite a bit. Despite the weird feeling he gave off."

"It's Ash Wednesday. If someone catches me on the way that knows me, like one of the nuns, they're going to insist I stay for mass. I would much rather not go at this moment." He said. Cain just wanted to clear the air; get everything out... Especially find out what he could about the man from his past.
