"Thank you." Nashita smiled, taking the coins and the dagger. The dagger felt foreign in her hand, too heavy for her thin fingers. "Are you sure about giving this to me?" She asked hesitantly. "It seems expensive." She said, eyeing the dagger carefully. She could make out a rough metal beneath a lifetime of wear against the handle. The metal beneath felt cold and was a bit flashy for a dagger of that size. It didn't just seem expensive. It looked very expensive.
|
"its fine but don't try to sell it. It belongs to the prince." he said then realized he was about to come off as a thief. "that is it was before he game it to me." he nodded trying not to get cought in the lye. "please be safe on the way home. i don't want to have saved you only to have you die at the hands of a villain."
|
"I know these streets well." Nashita said with a blush. "But thank you again." She said before slipping out of sight and into the maze that was the slums. Nashita moved quickly past the begging children and sleeping homeless men to get to her home.
"How was the Gala?" Her mother asked as soon as she reached the door. "The old men are pigs." Nashita siad simply, dropping the coins on the table. "Perhaps," Her mother said with a small smile. "But we will be able to eat well for a week." She laughed. |
Ashar watched the Nashita leave. he was happy he did well by her but at the same time he wished he could do more. he removed his mask when he was sure she was out of sight. his golden hair fell around his face. he didn't want to go back to the palace just yet so he explore the maze of streets.
when it was well late in the night he finally went back to his palace prison. Apparently his missing had such a big of a commotion they didn't even notice that one of the dancers had gone missing. He went to his room to sleep, thinking of Nashita, his bird girl. |
Nashita, having received a well prepared meal as a reward for her dancing, had trouble falling asleep. Her thoughts wandered to the boy who'd helped her, wondering why she had never seen his face. Her thoughts continued to roam about Ash until finally the familiar sounds of the slums rocked Nashita to sleep as if they were a childrens' lullaby.
|
Ashar woke to the sounds of the palace wokeing. he was sure to get an ear full from his father for running off at his own gala. it wasn't like he wanted to have one it was just the way things were done. he went out on his balcony. still dressed in the black. he had a small flout in his hands as he sat on the edge. he played a few notes from the song he had seen Nashita dance to.
he couldn't get her out of his head. however he was glad that none of the Aristocrats got her. she was a bird that needed its wings and it wouldn't be fair to clip then like his father had his. the music filled the air as e played louder, just letting the music be his wings for no matter how brief of time. |
Nashita woke early the next morning to her father ponding on her door. "Breakfast." He called crudely before Nashita heard his footsteps fade away from the door. She washed her face quickly, dressing in a simple outfit before hurrying out to the kitchen.
"Good morning, my child." Her mother called happily as she laid out ladneh and bread on the table. "A reward from your dance." She added happily. "And today you will go to the market for some more food." "Yes, mother." Nashita said before settling into her chair and beginning to eat. |
AShar finished the song and decided he didn't want to stay inside today. he changed into lighter clothes but still had the cloth mask. it would be harder to sneak out in the day but he thought he could pull it off. he took a rope he had hidden in his room and tossed it over the balcony's edge. ht tied the end still in his hand to the doors so f they tried to come and get him while he was still on the rope it wouldn't open. he climbed down and over the wall.
he began to head to the bazaar where all the shops and markets were. as he looked from shop to shop a pendant cought his eye. it was of a small silver bird with gem eyes. the shop keeper saw him looking at it. "a gift for you lady?" he asked showing it off more. Ashar nodded and handed the man its worth in gold coins. he had his mask on so any passing guard wouldn't recognize him. |
Nashita made her way through the maze of the slums, finding her way to the market. It was crowded as she had expected. Nashita moved gracefully through the crowd, her nose wrinkled slightly from the smell of fish coming off the stall to her right. She found the cheese stall, buying a small brick of cheese and yogurt before trying to find the bread stall.
Her long hair hung in waves down her back, a beautiful sight though the heat from the sun seemed to smolder her. Pulling her hair over one shoulder, Nashita bought a loaf of bread and moved carefully through the crowd to finish the shopping her mother had ordered. |
"did you hear the prince ran off again last night, at his own party. how tactless." ashar could hear people talking about the stunt he pull last night. he almost laughed, but managed to hide it. if the people knew he loved spending time outside the palace and among them what would they do? he looked at the pendant he had bought, even if he never saw her again it would please him to imagine her wearing it.
he went through the market and was looking for some breakfast after all he hadn't eaten yet. he saw a fish stall thought id best not to get to close. he then noticed a bread stall. that would be a start. |
Nashita moved carefully around the roudy men in the marketplace. Passing by the bread stall on her way back through, she stopped in her tracks. She saw a boy in a mask standing by the bread stall. He looks oddly familiar... Nashita pondered. The mystery boy... She realized happily.
Making her way to the bread stall, Nashita stood beside the boy in the mask. "Ash?" She asked cautiously. |
Ashar looked and saw Nashita. he was suprized he honestly didn't think he would run into her again. "Nashita? wow i wasn't expecting to see you again" he said smiling. he felt really happy as if so part of him really did want to see her again. 'that's two. if i see her one more time its not coincidence but fate' he thought.
"what are you doing here, well shopping obliviously." he felt like a blabbering idiot. hes ears turned a slight red with the blush. in the daylight she was all the more beautiful then with the moonlight. |
"Yes." Nashita said shyly. "My mother sent my on an errand to shop." Nashita explained. "Are you shopping as well?" She asked, leading him to walk with her with her hand in the crook of his elbow.
|
"umm yeah i'm mostly out because i like being in the town" he said buying the bread. he was hungry and it would be rude to ask to eat at her house. Ashar reached into his pocket and pulled out the pendant.
"i saw this and thought of you." he said his ears turning red again. "you can have it f you like." he didn't want it to sound like he was trying to suduss her he just wanted to give her something nice. |
"Oh." Nashita exclaimed as she saw the pendant. "Its beautiful." She mused, running her fingers over the grooves of the silver. "It looks valuable. Are you sure you want to give it to me?" She asked quietly as they moved fluidly through the crowd.
She knew what it was like to receive attention from boys. Usually she knew exactly what they wanted for her, and that was something she wasn't going to give them. However, with Ash, she was confused. He seemed so kind that it was hard to tell if he was like every other boy or if he genuinely cared for her company. |
ashar nodded. "i bought it because i thought it would suit you." he pulled her out of the way of the crowd and turned her so her back was to him. he fastened it behind her neck. He felt happy just giving her a simple gift. he could have bought her every thing she wanted but he wanted her to remain simple.
"it looks lovely on you" he said. seeing the silver next to her fair skin. what made her so difrent? AShar couldn't tell. she was just like all the others in looks, and she was poor. however she was free. not caged or tamed like the others, purely free. |
"Thank you." Nashita blushed, her cheeks turning red. "You didn't have to get me anything." She mused. Without thinking, Nashita brought her hand up to the boy's mask and ran her fingers across it. "Why won't you show me your face?" She asked, her eyes alit with curiousity.
|
Ashar grabbed her hand blushing slightly. her skin was so soft against his rough hands it fascinated him. he was careful to to be to rough with her in fear that she would be jst as fragail as she looked.. "i'm afraid you'll run. I was burned in the fire with my parents i was just lucky and lived." he hated to lie to her. but if she saw his face would she recognize him as the prince? he would much rather be a servant to her then her lord.
|
"I'm sorry." Nashita said, letting her hand drop though it still held onto Ash's. "I understand but please don't think you have to run from me." She smiled, feeling the electric currents where they're hands touched. Blushing slightly, Nashita removed her hand from his. "I have to bring this food home to my parents. When will I see you again?" She asked, tilting her head to the side slightly.
|
"maybe, i honestly hope so" he said smiling at her. he really did want to see her again. he hoped and prayed so. "maybe tonight if you ave nothing else do you mind meting me? outside the south palace wall?" he felt a little embarrassed to be asking such a thing but he didn't want fate to be the one to decide if they saw each other again.
|
"Of course." Nashita said happily, embarressed slightly about how obviously happy she looked. After she composed herself she added, "Until tonight then." Giving Ash a last smile, Nashita walked backwards for a step before turning and traveled through the maze of streets to her home.
|
AShar felt like he was walking on air as he headed to the palace. she had said yes to meting with him! he felt truely happy. however his buzz kill came when he was back in his room and dressed like a prince again. his father had summoned him and once again scolded him about sneaking off without a guard to keep an eye on him.
"thieves, and evil things live in those streets. bot you want to end up like your mother with you trout slit?" he asked AShar just shook his head and took his scolding with inward name calling. |
Nashita had to fight the smile off of her face as she returned home, groceries in hand. "Someone had a good time at the market." Nashita's mother noted, one eyebrow raised. "Did someone meet a boy at the market?" Her mother laughed.
"Don't be silly, mother." Nashita laughed though a blush betrayed her a sit reached her cheeks. "Who is the lucky boy?" Her mother asked, unconvinced by Nashita's lie. "He's just a boy." Nashita sighed, wanting to drop the subject. |
Ashar was put on house arrest. he was not to leave his room for the rest of the day and night. however that wasn't going to stop him. he had already set his plan for sneaking out. After all the guards in charge of watching and checking up on him couldn't resist of he offered them wine.
he waited in his bed thinking of nashita. he wanted to see if she would explore with him and maybe find a safer place to met. out side the wall wasn't a good place should one of the guards decide to patrol. |
Nashita managed for a bit longer to avoid her mother's questions about her mystery boy. Ash... She sighed happily as she slipped into a simple blue dress. The dress hung off her beautifully, lined with gold stitches. Smoothing out the hem of the skirt, Nashita slipped out of her window while her parents slept soundly in the room beside her. She hated to have to lie to them but if they knew about Ash she wouldn't be able to leave the house this late, as they would be afraid that she was doing things that were unlady-like.
Nashita moved silently through the city streets, her fingers occasionaly brushing the pendant Ash had given her as it hung around her neck. Reaching the south wall of the Palace, Nahita rested against a small wall. Careful not to snag the fabric of her dress, Nashita sat gracefully as she waited for Ash to find her. |
