With her self bought orange eclipse sitting in her best friend's drive-way, Lacey's skyblue eyes peeked through the front window past the rain that pelted the glass. A slender, ivory-skinned hand flickered on the wind-shield wipers as her eyes squinted to further focus. The sixteen year old's once pouted pink lips smoothed out in a delicate curve; a smile. Her burnt orange enV phone had been slid out of her pocket, flipped open as the light from the screen reflected off the delicate features of her face. Clicking the downwards button to scroll through her contact list, the name Maria caught her attention. Her soft natured smile widened into a full fledged grin as her fingers worked furiously to text her.

Ria! Peek out your living room window!

She knew Maria was home, and she knew her friend couldn't resist doing as she was told via text message. Closing her flip-phone with a click, her eyes rose to examine bits and pieces of the window and it's blinds through the raging storm. Lightning flashed, and the car rumbled around her in subtle vibrations that danced deep in to her chest. The one hand grasping the steering wheel tightened, and adrenaline rushed through her veins. Her heart pumped and recycled that adrenaline, causing a soft sigh to escape her lips. The two girls had been inseperable since the seventh grade. When apart, they did everything they could to contact one another. The thing was, they had far too much in common to be healthy. Born and raised into troubled homes and a free-spirited outlook on life, their indepence and desire to be free grew together.

Of course, it was the earthly materials that kept them glued to their version of Hell and prision. With the issue of money, gas, shelter, and other everyday things... they had far too much on their shoulders. However, they were both well on their way to fixing that problem. The moment they were both sixteen - since they were born exactly one month apart - they were out job hunting. Scoring a job as a free lance writer, Lacey was as content as she could get. Depending on her highschool's computers and internet, every day she was either in the school's library or in class in Study Hall writing articles for money. An over-achiever at school had it's benefits. Her father may have had tons of money, but he definitely weren't willing to share unless it was a couple of bucks to toss her free of his path.

Lacey had joined the swim team, the newspaper and yearbook staff at the highschool, and often helped around with minor charities when she had time. Sure, sounded like the perfect life... right? Hah, well... that didn't explain her home life. At a young age, her mother had passed away from cancer. Sadly enough, all Lacey honestly remembered were simple childhood stories her mother use to tell her... and the only image she had of her mother was a few photos that she had hidden from her father. When her mother died, her father had slipped and fallen into a deep depression. Instead of clinging to his possessions left of his wife's memory, he destroyed them all. Anything that reminded him of her had been discarded and sold. Managing to salvage a single stuffed animal and those few photographs, Lacey had them hidden under neath a floorboard in her room under her bed. 'Course... she also had a pack of cigarettes under there, a lighter, and a book full of her own hand written stories and poetry.

Glancing back to the window Maria was bound to peek out of, she smirked playfully and flickered the high beams on her car to further catch Maria's attention. "Hurry up, slow poke!" She muttered to herself in a tease under her breath. It was probably a good thing her best friend didn't hear that one because she'd probably feel her wrath. Then again, the brown haired teenager never really had a complaint about Maria. She was the closest person to her, and the only person she trusted with her secrets and life savings. Together, Lacey knew at heart... they could achieve anything.

Trying not to look as disgusted as she felt Maria's copper hands attempted to make a long braid with her thick midnight hair. She had been trying to endure another "family dinner" as her mother Tanya would put it. Tanya had been trying to make her family seem happier sense Maria's father Charles had left with his office maid. Now the fact that Tanya's husband had left her had not been the family problem. Tanya was a beautiful Cherokee woman, she had a job that took care of every simple whim for her family, she had parents that were also well paid, and would help out, it was simply the fact that he had left her with out warning. This left Maria's mother blindsided and full of anger. A simple fury that she took out on her family ,mainly Maria for being the only female in her path.

Life had not always been so complicated ,before the affair Maria's father was unkind and cruel to her, simply for the fact that she was the only girl he had reproduced and to him, Maria was wasting her life away. Though she had pleaded with her father that she was really a great child and student ,Charles could not see past the fact that she wanted to be an art major and not a low life corporate attorney that his is. Maria didn't hate her family ,in fact in some twisted way she loved them all. Maria just couldn't stand being near them ,listening to them, pretending like they loved to do.

Fiddling with her hair ,Maria heard her Samsung Impression blast "Stuck on you " in her pale pink skirt pocket. She had only one explanation for this sudden outburst "Lacey" She whispered under her breath. She knew it was no one but her beautiful savior.Lacey had been her best friend since forever and she didn't want it any other way.Lacey was her kindred spirit ,her better half and the best thing that could have every happened to her.And bizarrely like Maria .They did everything they could together ,not all the time agreeing with one another ,but none the less they were best friends. Maria gingerly pulled her sleek sterling phone out of her pocket and read the text. Maria's bright hazel eyes lit up and she dashed to the living room window.Sure enough Lacey's sunburst eclipse was waiting for her in the drive way.Trying not to make a scene Maria sauntered across the living room back to her cave she called a room and picked up her overnight bag and dumping in all the necessity inside the hot pink leopard print bag. Grabbing her keys that rested on every domo and hello kitty key chain known to man, her silver phone and 50$ from the togo jar,Maria slipped through the front door virtually unnoticed.Shielding her jet black from the pelting raindrops above, she dashed through the precipitation shaking her newly drenched locks as she slid into the car."This better be good I was about to feed my face",she said playfully knowing fully that this would ruffle Lacey's feathers.

The thing about the two girls was that they were basically each other's life support. When one was in need, the other was quickly at their side doing all they could. When they both were in trouble, it was a joint effort to keep one another smiling and functioning through the troubles. After a few moments longer in her car, the blue-eyed brunette began to get worried with her friend's lack of appearance. Her angelic tinted eyes examined the blurred scenery as the rain continued to pelt down and rage from the heavens. Relief swept over her slender system when Maria was spotted rushing through the storm towards her car. Cracking a goofy grin, it soon turned in to a playfully agigtated smirk.

"Oh please, you know my house has plenty of food to stuff your face with." Gently flicking Maria in the upper arm, she turned on the warm air to help dry her off from the cold rain. Raising a thin eye brow, she kept her smirk. "What, I can't steal my best friend away for a night? My dad and his recent whore took off to Las Vegas for the week. You're mine for the weekend, got it babe?" She teased, pulling the gear shift before glancing back over her shoulder. Between glancing at her rear view mirror and over her shoulder, she had backed out of the driveway. With a revv of her engine, they were roaring through the neighborhood towards her home. Slowing down at a red light, Lacey smacked the sperimint gum in her mouth, popping a small bubble.

Her personality was much like a mischevious imp... always planning something and having fun. Maria just so happened to make that a bit worse, but it never did them any harm... well, okay... most of the time it didn't. Lacey was the kind of person who wouldn't allow harm to come to Maria or anyone she cared for in that matter frame. Having always been very self sacrificing and tender hearted, she tended to get herself stepped on pretty often for the sake of others. Drumming her delicate, capable fingers on her steering well, she took off again the moment the light flickered green. "I hope you're in the mood for Chinese. I ordered TONS and we gotta beat the delivery guy to my house." Laughing lightly, she tilted her head to the side a bit. "Or, he'll find an empty house with no money for him. I bet that'll tick him off real good." Pulling up in to her driveway, she turned off her car and swiped Maria's bag. Darting out of the car, she raced towards the porch of her home.

There was no denying it, her house was huge. Lacey's home gave off the impression that she was one of those rich bitch snobs, but the truth was... she wasn't, her father was. Unlocking the door, she laughed at Maria who she was sure she'd catch running after her in the rain. Shuffling in to the mansion sized home, she kicked off her converse shoes and playfully shoved the bag back in Maria's damp arms. "Slow poke."

Feeling as she always did when she went to Lacey's house,Maria sat up in the plush car seat anxiously. "Was there really a need for that ?", Ria lightly giggled as she rubbed her were Lacey's dainty fingers had just been. The car ride to Lace's house always made Ria nervous."And I am quite content with our weekends Lacey-belle!", Not that she hadn't been there a million times and she knew where everything was ,it was simply the fact that each time the two girls met for a weekend together there was bound to be an adventure waiting for them.

Maria eased into the comfort of her best friend. Lacey made her happy.Plain and simple. The most content she could ever be was with her Lacey-belle. Maria's artistic ,challenging and sometimes childish nature was never misunderstood with Lacey. Things always clicked and they never doubted one another.Listening to the rain pelt the car Maria twiddled with her lanky thumbs timidly."Smorgasbord of Chinese sounds perfect . You know me so well !",Maria beamed . Sitting in cars still was never her forte ,Maria was always an anxious person. She hated the wait of anything. Maria was the type of girl to complain at a funeral because she hadn't seen the body yet. She was strange to most people, but to Lacey she was Maria .

Pulling into the driveway of Lace's grandiose home ,she let out a sigh of relief through her feminine body.Slowly getting out of the car to take in the view ,though Maria had seen it many a time, she unhurriedly pulled herself out to the path way leading to the front door.Drenched in rain she let out an "Umph!" as her bag was put back into her copper arms. Looking at Lacey crookedly she asked "Was that truly necessary ?". Playfully shaking her soaking ebony locks, Maria made a puddle where she and Lacey had been standing.Moving warily around Lace so she didn't make her slip she launched her canvas vans across the front room. "You were saying ?" Maria cooed as she gently wrapped her long arms around Lacey's fragile body ,giving her the hug she had be so dying for in the car."I really missed you Lacey-belle, I'm glad you texted " she said tenderly
