Fang nodded as his comrade entered, adding as he went; "Yo. Check everything before you hit it. Once you let this door go... sh*t's gonna get uncomfortably real for both of us thanks to the damn alarm". And with that he let the door fall as he slid his hand back for the tiny Derringer that would guard him as he checked the fallen cop's empty belt and left for the place where they'd begun and beyond.
The suitcases held for the current travelers were flung open to reveal everything from clothes to make-up lain amongst the low budget cases and slapped beneath piles of identifying papers. There was nothing contained there in which could have helped until Rin's hands began falling on the small metal locks that fell wayside of the confiscated bags to reveal the very same with several nasty surprises. In one bag the label stated 'HBP032' and bore a small wooden box of what seemed like perfectly normal cigars marked with the gray and red image of a frog sticker on their centers, in another case claimed by its tag of 'URW107' there was a kit of six long bits of metal tucked alongside several cases of bullets that had been tucked in with the clothes. Other cases held small baggies of crystallized yellow powder and more still simply bore knives and bits of firing pins or metal tubes. When it was all said and done each suitcase had been opened to reveal no more than a dozen items of use along with the bits of metal tubing and a few empty sheathes to blades that were not there. The rest of the room remained still as a French man in a bumble bee suit wondered in on a matador and an Inca woman both in frilled unders playing ping pong on what had to be the world's worst soap opera and the world's greatest parody there of. |
Rin gathered up anything he thought he could use, including the powdery stuff in the baggies. If anything he could sell some of this junk when they got to safety. The knives made him feel safer and he split those with Fang, making sure they were a bit more equally armed before approaching the next door.
"Ready to go on?"With a soft smile Viper looked ready to fight, comfortablely holding a baggie in one hand and a knife in the other. |
The door slid open, leaving the metal strip on its top dangling for a long pause as it stuck by sheer balance to the top of the door. Looking back Fang could have easily wept as he saw his comrade slinging the door open and almost knocking the, presumably already fallen, bit of aluminum just barely intact with the sensor as he left. Seeing that the alarm was yet thrown and thanking every make-believe god he'd ever heard other idiots pray to he turned back and growled, "Damn reckless kid. Never dealt with the govs, have you? Bunch of damn paranoid lot that they are...". In front of him a tiny window showed no more patrols in the next car and gave him leeway enough to take a few of the various blades for his selection as he slid a few kitchen sorts free and cast the others into a nearby seat as he went into the next car and thanked his stars for the odd balance of the single aluminum sheet that had saved them both a far bit of trouble in the hands of the ornery cops.
Rin flinched, his mistake evident as he stared at the door. He'd almost gotten them killed- again. Nibbling on his lip he didn't even dare look up at Fang when he was angery, his weaponry held close as she stepped back and let the more expirienced male take lead.
Fang snorted through his nose and let an airy laugh escape him as he simply shook his head and the sheer impact of the mistake on his comrade's focus, appreciating how much he considered his error even as it remained unnoticed by the guards. Either way, they had been lucky throughout most of the attempts anyhow and had gathered already a good following of errors that would only persist as they entered the next car with no result and another to the very same as they came upon the next cart to mark the center and through back the door, its window filled by a poster for a missing person, only to find a large man in black with a rifle on his backstrap and a visored face that stared through its black-out mask to show concern. In an instant Fang's hands fell to either side for the twin actions he considered; First his identification card leaving his pants, and next the first of the three blades he had stowed away joining the fray as it slid only just past his hooded shirt's baggy side before the man before him spoke. "Roderick? Galvin? Lhee?", the man gave a questioning look at the boy and thought for a moment, "I know you, sir?".
Roderick froze and considered his options as he shook his head and apologized to the man for what had to have been a mistake of identity by his words, watching as the large man looked between them both and shook his own helmet as he returned, "thank you, then. We have both of your prints on catalog up front, so you are free to return to whatever seats you have taken". Passing between them, the guard hummed lightly as he pondered and simply went along with whatever thought he had had. |
Rin's eyes flickered from the guard to Fang with interest then back to the guard. That gun would help them and without a hint to the actions he was going to take Viper strided forward and slammed his elbbow down hard on the place between the guards shoulderblades.
As the man went down in suprise he met with Rin's blade, tender flesh sliced open and bleeding before too much noise could be made. Another effortless kill, another chance to escape. "Hey- you know how to handle one of these?"he turned and asked Fang, passing off the gun and the bit of ammo he'd found on his victim. |
"....Kid?", Fang sighed through his breath and took the rifle away from the other male with a fair amount of praise that he would be allowed the big guns for the moment in time, "Have you ever, you know, chosen to let them live? Not that I advocate one or the other, that is. You just seem good at doing what you do". He smiled in a friendly sort of way and shook the rifle hard by its stock so that the safety was thrown back and the bullet chamber cleared. As he turned back and beckoned the other forward he began unreeling the barrel's tip and pocketing the ensuing parts in the large pocket of his hooded shirt. The doorway previously blocked by the guard awaited and Fang was in much less a mood to wait after having had to miss the second kill. As they went forward his fears, or hopes, were promptly made apparent as the room that had held the other guard before was exposed in the embrace of the doorway to show a now panicked guard with a young couple several seats away.
For a moment the man acted like he may have wanted his gun, maybe even to threaten the other passengers with, but in an instant Fang chose the man's fate for him as he pointed the deconstructed barrel at the man and lit the empty chamber in a flash. The blinding light flared, the gun went up, Fang ducked, and in an instant there came a sound of steel and steel colliding as three huge sprinting steps brought Fang up to one of the leather handles descending from the ceiling and upward into the air as one foot caught on the luggage bar and chimed. Fang's other foot, which he had kicked off of, swung around the man's chin and locked as the thug pull both his hips and the man's face skyward and delved one hand to his boot still locked in the luggage rack like the loading of a gun. The rifle struck earth and Fang's teeth shone as the glint of his comrade's knife shown from within his boot and made a wide U in the air to carve from the space between the guard's ear, his spine, and his ear again with one vicious cycle that instantly lacked the man's throat and sent Fang, now lacking the neck to balance on, falling behind the man and into the previously taken seat with his knife now in hand. As he slunk into the seat Fang kicked the corpse forward and revealed the U-shaped wounds extent as the hollow of the man's neck showed skyward and the sounds of another guard now alerted came from the place across from Viper's door. Sitting with a discarded meat shield at his feet, Fang simply turned the rifle downward toward the door and smiled to see what would happen next. |
Rin smirked and watched Fang in motion, letting him take down the one guard by himself. The dude had moves and Rin appriciated that his escort could kick butt as well. "Wanna go 2 for two buddy?"Grinning his own gun was at the ready, poised to take shots to cover his flashy partner in crime. "By the way, its easier to just kill- if we go down I wanna drag as many of them as I can to hell with me."
Seeing the one across from him speaking as if it were all a game of skill or chance, the cop reached back and pulled the shell-bearing rifle from his back with a jet of steam as two shells fell into the chamber that leveled with the criminal's head. "Roderick 'Fang'. And company. Desist!!", the cop pulled his fat gun's trigger and in an instant the mother and child seated in the room screamed, the lights shook, and the whole room wooshed as the gun's trail left a vacuum where it had exploded outward with two huge shots. The destruction of the gun had torn a chunk from the wall that it had struck, the barrel warped as it was, but as it settled in its dust there were two things that had not been as the officer had intended; Firstly, the male known as Fang had moved to deflect the shot from his friend using the functioning long-range rifle still strapped to the dead man he called a shield and, secondly, the wall on which the other stood was unscathed save for the rush of wind from the ceiling he had destroyed when Fang's rifle had split both barrels of the officer's shotgun in two. Before ether could speak, however, the second shot came tearing from Fang's rifle and split the officer who they were facing's skull in the center of his crown. Still hiding behind the body with the bullet-proof vest, Fang called; "Yo. Check the bodies. These f*cks aren't gonna get lucky with another damn ambush.", as he knelt to take advantage of his shelter and to examine a key that had fallen during the fray.
Before them the cart was cleared of all living cops and bore only the first signs of gore as the bullet of the rifle lay lodged in the ceiling with minimal blood below it. |
Viper ignored the gore, the blood staining his hands a cherry red as he pilfered the man's pockets of everything useful, checking if this on too had a bullet proof vest.
Fang was just as good as him with killing, if not better and he ws glad to know he was on his side. "We survive I owe you big ok?" |
Fang hauled the body up on his shoulder and checked around its shoulder to see the people already terror-stricken by the sights. "Yeah. I guess, man.", he sighed his words and bit back the rest of his sentence before starting forth with a long face. As he watched the room unfold and soon enough end in favor of the room ahead he began to recognize the status that they must have been found in. Ahead of him the room lay empty save for a stack of papers which were soiled in yellow bile from god-knows-who and a single closet clearly built onto the wall post-production. No guards and no more citizens entering Berlin. "Yo!", Fang nodded forward as he stood to his full height and let the body fall, "Found another prospect on our stuff. Prolly got a lock on one of them, but unless I'm mistaken we can get our sh*t back and maybe find that main box for the memory banks with our prints on it.", looking up at the walls beyond that grew light with each second he added, "Running outta tunnel, so we only have time for this last room and then we're taking the 'emergency stop' to the surface."
"Then we better haul @ss fang."He shuddered, knowing they were running out of time. "Gotta find those prints." He could handle normal locks and prayed the alarms here weren't eletronic. Running out of time and their normal gear would save them in a fight.
Fang pulled forward and approached the center of the room with the stolen long-range gun in hand, his eyes passing from place to place until he was finally sated. With nothing to offend their task he was able to level the rifle and tear three shots off before the long handle of the door finally exploded inward and left the door sliding up with a gentle hum of steel on steel. For a moment no sound continued, and the there was something all too familiar as the tram's intercom shot into life and began bellowing a verbal alert that the confiscation area had been unsealed. Fang ducked partway in reflex and started into the room to begin throwing all of the items free of its space as he prayed the other would collect what he couldn't grab. Five, ten, fifteen, twenty seconds passed and then he was free with his favorite gun on his belt and a duffel bag now made empty. Fang threw the bag and strode to one of the aisles of seat along the wall before yelling, "Pack our shit and let's go. This is our stop.", as the huge handgun hung by his side and slowly rose toward the forward door that was surely the formost control panel, "No data base in their so we're gonna get rid of those prints the primitive way."
"Great."Viper hissd, not angery at Fang but at all the crap they'd put up with today. But atleast he had his stuff back, and the things they'd taken from fang too. Ramming all their stuff in the dufflel Viper only paused to grap his gun and to slid the sai up into his sleeves. So much better than a knife now he felt ready and able to kick ass.
Now if only they could find the dude with their prints. |
Aiming between where the supports should have been Fang unleashed eight high-powered slugs into the doorway that led forward into the control board and smirked as the ensuing noise marked not only broken machinery from the panel but a sound of ricocheting bullets on the track ahead. The trams audio instantly began to warp and every light failed at once as the computerized system failed in the way that Fang hoped could not be savaged. No computer, no records, no prints. Fang turned the gun upward and released the last two slugs in his, now comically short-lived, chamber into the ceiling so that the service hatch's door went spiralling up and over the tram's roof. With that done he knelt to other his shoulders as a step and yelled, "Now or naught, kid. Come on. Up, up, up!", his voice echoing as he watched the first of the signs appear on the passing wall. D*mn, we're cutting it close!
"I'm coming, I'm coming."Rin shouted out to him, hugging the bag tight he took one step off Fang's shoulders and scrambled up onto the tram's roof. Once there he hit his knees and thrust a hand down to help Fang escape as well. He hoped as ferventely as Fang that the computer and their prints were as good as dead.
Fang leapt up and took his took his comrade's hand as he stepped on the loop of one swaying handle and hauled his weight upward with a dissatisfied look on his mug and a now shaking hand with the gun that he took to frantically reloading as the tram began to slowly descend in speed. As he worked the thug barked, "Tried this sh*t a few times before. Just when we see the station bail in the opposite direction. Toward the wall. There's a service track over there for repairs and a door that leads up to the surface. Gonna have to be damn fast, but you'll see it!!". The wind was incredible against his face but totally overlooked as his sense of timing failed to note just how far they were until a beam of light broke to announce the station and his thin arm shoved the other toward the edge of the roof as he thrust forward and dove like a loon onto the path no more than a few feet wide with his head matching first along with one shoulder to prevent what he could of the fall. Below them the tram's shot-up computer did little to aid its stop with the fried navigational system that had it still pumping at high speeds as the station broke into sight around it.
Rin had no time to think, Fang shoved him towards the side of the tram and as the man fell Viper went instinctively into one of his martial arts rolls, the duffel also there to cushion his fall. Not quite safe yet but closer to freedom than before he could feel the ache in his body from the rol. "You ok?"He asked Fang, panting heavily.
Fang's shoulder struck the wall hard and threw him backward like a rag, his body striking the guardrail by lucky chance and doubling him back so that he tumbled forward into the door with a heavy plunking sound. As he tumbling toward the door and held himself against its steely grip he was able to growl, "Yeah. F8cking peachy.", before looking back with an angry glance that stood for only briefest of spells before he shoved the unlocked door to and stepped into the cold touch of a dimly lit hall so that Viper could follow before the train passed. As he went Fang also refitted his huge handgun to his belt and replaced the hood that came with his noticeable slouch in posture as he went further and further along back into the air so think it was like soup; Tainted by the fallout and clotted with countless forms of biogens and smells. " 'les you're used to by a zombie, you're trainer will provide you an oh two mask til your body adjusts. Just try to breath easy til then."
Rin gasped, coughing violently as the sludgy air filled his lungs. Gods he was tainted now, never to leave this city. Only the slight forms of meditation he remembered hrom his sensei kept his mind calm and his breathing as easy as could be given the circumstances. "It always like this?"He struggled to speak, coughing once more.
"Most of it. We're under the slums right now, caught in the building's ventilation, but yeah. Most of the city's either this bad or almost there.", Fang nodded slightly as they walked through the snaking halls of the building's intricate escape route. Soon enough the two survivors, if they had actually made it, would be questioned and would know presumably nothing to aid their foes, but it was still an uneasy sort of security as he started down another doorway and led Viper to a steel cylinder of a room with a spiral stairwell in the center; "Your trainer lives in Mid-Town so you're a bit lucky, not the best or worst really, but you can see now why so many of the people here believe the Civil Guard when they say we are 'quarantined for public safety'."
"Its nightmarish in here, yeah I can see how people might think that."Mid town, a sort of nuteral zone as far as the air here went he supposed. Anything was better than this. He continued to cough a bit more, going ove rhis mind exersises so that when they did run into foes they didn't point him out as a newcomer right off the bat. "So.. you know my trainer.. what kind of person is he?"
"He is... odd. Came in with the Ratterman family influence and now he's somewhat of an information broker.", Fang led the way up the stairs and booted the door open to a blast of dust when they got topside and both were taken in by the radiation poisoning that effected this floor with its spilled over pools of rain that had swept with it the debris of the first few nuclear shells, "He even had a run in with a Blood unit from the Civil Guard and took the f*cker's heart out as a gift for the city don, one of the Jades' old turfheads. If you ignore his arm you'll be fine. He's just sorta quiet when he's doing his own sh*t, not to confrontational at all". As he spoke Fang tucked his face into his sleeve and frantically walked in a wuicker step as he led them up and up toward the air that should any moment break into a far less fatal dose of radiation. Both men stood amidst the poison as they walked upward, and then as they crested the final large doorframe Fang's demeanor changed to one of humor. Pulling back, he turned the corner and stepped into the chained off fence so that he could push it as far forward as possible to allow the other passage into the streets beyond, the gate being built into a wall on the edge of a dried out stream and giving the full view of downtown Berlin as it were, "Welcome home, kid. This is Berlin". The city beyond was half destroyed and yet the sounds of life were everywhere beyond and not only just focal on the silhouette that waited in the bank of that dried up river in what had to have been the finest vest and slacks they'd seen yet.
"Home.. yeah.. home."Viper smiled, shuddering softly as his lungs took in the new air. His thoughts were on his trainer, this entire situation and of course the man that led him out of the tram alive.
"If this is home then we're alive, and I owe you big my friend. " Eyes wide open in awe he took in the sight of this bombed out city, a city that still boasted life. |
"Nah. Just give Specs my love, man. He'll know what yah mean.", Fang smiled at his mean job and thought of the times past when the two men he had joined for their respective tasks today had been at the end of each other's love lives linked by him and of the time when the newly arrived Specs had tried so hard to take away Fang's lingering past that lay in the other's life, "He thinks we're coming outta the service hatch on the D-Line, so just hike upstream here for a tick and you'll see him". Fang let the chained off fence fall shut behind Rin and turned his back as he started back toward the opposite end of the subway station and back into the life he held before and forever after each act of the mob; Back to the home where his lover and his parent should have been. with Rin safely delivered to the dried up stream there was nothing left to do but mourn as he often did.
