Phoenix Inn [always accepting! ^.^]
You walk down a cobblestone path and see a graveyard next to a large brick building with a fiery bird spray painted on the side. Above the door is a sign saying “Phoenix Inn”. You can see multitudes of flickering candles through the window, and music is playing. You enter and see a variety of creatures doing what they please. Some patrons sit at the bar, drinking away their sorrows. Other sit in the large, wing back leather chairs by the fireplace. Over the fire place was a portrait of the red-haired woman behind the bar, and beautiful black haired woman, surrounded by three guys. Still others attempted to brawl in the middle of the dance floor, before several large trolls escorted them past you, out the door. Your eyes wander and notice that there are roses everywhere in every colour, even on the stairs leading up to a second floor with bedrooms. Beside the stairwell is a door, that leads outside, in a large clearing surrounded by dense forest. A Japanese hot spring spread is set into rocky ground surrounded by mossy earth.
You walk up to the bar, with a confused look on your face. The bartender smiles. She flicks her long braid over her shoulder, and points to the wall beside you. You follow her hand and see a piece of parchment nailed to the bar. It reads: Welcome to the Phoenix Inn RULES: -KEEP FIGHTING TO A MINIMUM -KEEP YOUR WEAPONS TO YOURSELF AND YOU WONT HAVE TO FACE THE TROLLS -SWEARIN’ AINT PROHIBITITED BUT IT’S A JUDGE OF CHARACTER -WHEN YOU’RE HERE YOU’RE FAMILY “Welcome to the Inn. Sybella sat in one of the large wing back chairs, staring at the flickering flames. Holding out her hand, she created a pink rose. She began to twirl the stem between her fingers as she waited for anyone to bring life back into her Inn. There used to be life. Back when Sokey and Sodalis hung around. Also Talon, and Mira. She looked at the painting of the five of them above the fireplace. Back when the Inn first opened, back then they were all carefree and childish.
Sybella sighed and blew out the majority of the candles. She left the fireplace burning incase some poor soul wandered in during the night. With that she headed up to the first room on the left and opened the door. With a quick glance behind her, all the roses closed up, as she went to bed. |
Sy awoke, feeling hopeful for a new day. Smiling she slipped on a top and some jeans, a pair of heels. As she walked down the stairs, she used her magic as a succubus to change her hair into her usual long-straight-red hair with purple streaks.
She took a count to see if any keys were missing, none were. Sybelle sighed, and went behind the bar to plug in the waffle maker. As it was heating up, she relit the fire in the fireplace. Tears rolling down her face as she remembered the "Flying Pegasus Inn" and her boys. "Where are you guys?" she whispered to the flickering flames. |
Leonard had followed the signs with interest to this place called "Phoenix Inn." It seemed an interesting place if for no other reason that it seemed the shady sort of joint where the person he was looking for was likely to show up. He entered, of course not expecting him to find anyone straight off the bat, but still looking just in case a miracle happened. Of course, the answer was no, but that did not mean he wasn't likely to stay for awhile. He'd "found" enough money that he could afford to live at an inn for a good while, and it would do him good to have a roof for once.
He approached the front desk. |
Sy spun around. "oh hello!" she smiled, hastily wiping away her tears. "Welcome to the Phoenix Inn. I'm Sybella, Sy for short. How may I help you?" She walked up to stand behind the bar.
|
Leonard was not a man for words, and found himself fumbling with them. "I... uh... I need a room," he said vaguely. He stopped and decided that now would be a good time to pay attention. "Were... you just crying? Your face is a ll red and blotchy."
|
"Oh! Sorry." Sy focused her magic to turn her appearance back to her porcelain perfection. "I hope that didn't bother you too much."She blushed in embarrassment. Turning she grabbed a key off the cork board behind her, and a clipboard. "I just need you to sign your name here." She pointed to the line with a quill pen.
|
"No, not at all," he lied. Truth was, he was bothered by people crying. For reasons he couldn't understand or comprehend, he often felt guilty when someone was upset. He may not have had anything to do with it, but a sort of empathy tended to wash over him. It had taken him this long to be able even begin to block it out, and it still made him feel weird.
He took the quill between his forefinger and thumb and clumsily wrote the name "Leonard Erland." He stared at the pen for a moment, almost expecting the ink of it to come alive, but pushed that thought aside as well. He wondered about quills. This place was so strange, between the candle lighting and roses up the wazoo... |
"Welcome to the Inn Leonard. Remember, when you're here your family. If theres anything you need don't hesitate to ask." Sybella put the board back up, and started making batter for waffles.
|
"Family," he repeated quietly, sullenly. He gave a half-hearted smile, wondering if she'd known that family was something he needed. But that was silly. She couldn't have possibly known.
He looked over the counter. "Are you making pancakes," he asked. |
"Waffles actually. Would you like some? I can make another batch." Sy smiled sweetly,
|
"I... don't believe I've ever had what you call a... 'waffle,'" he said, slightly amused by the name of the dish. Food that took a device more advanced than a stove was likely to be a new encounter for someone like Leonard, who only really had a chance to eat anything that wasn't relatively instant when his brother was around. And even then, especially then, all food was put up to question.
|
Sy laughed softly. "It's the same as a pancake, only its square, puffier, and has little square ridges." She poured some batter into the waffle-iron, and waited a few minutes until the light changed from red to green. She took a fork and pulled 2 waffles off and onto a plate. "Here, try them. Do you want syrup or butter?"
|
Syrup comes from trees, Leonard recalled automatically. He wasn't sure how he felt about that. But then it was just like any kind of vegetable, he supposed. He then wondered if syrup could be considered a vegetable, and... well... lost his train of thought.
He shook his head, coming back to earth. "Uh... syrup. Syrup, please." |
"all right." She ducked down to open a cabinate under the bar. "Maple, Corn, or regular?" She put three different bottles on the counter.
|
"Regular? I thought that maple was regular," he said, a bit confused.
|
"It is to an extent. The one I call 'Maple' is overly sugary and sweet. 'Regular' is maple, but it's not as... tooth-rotting." She smiled, making another batch.
|
"So, in other words, actual maple." He smiled, something he wasn't very practiced at. "I'll take whatever you suggest," he said. He tapped his fingers on the bartop. He was nervous. This was the longest he'd talked with someone in over a month.
His social skills, too, were out of practice. |
"I like regular. Not as sweet, but lots of flavour." She frowned a little when she noticed him tapping his fingers. She recognized the nervous trait. Sokenzai had done it often. Sy shook her head, and poured some syrup over his pancakes. "Enjoy!" she handed him a fork and knife.
|
Leonard took a moment, staring at the plate, unsure of how to begin. He knew how to use a fork, yes... and the knife. He understood all this. And yet, when presented with the opportunity to try a strange, new food, he froze.
Finally, reason set in. He cut a piece out of the 'waffle' and put it in his mouth. So odd... so odd... It was crunchy, unlike a pancake. But it tasted like a pancake. And the little squares where the dough recessed held the syrup in them like little edible cups. It was strangely tasty, this crunchy and liquid. He quickly ate the whole thing. "Thank you very much," he said politely. He began fishing in his pockets to find something to pay with. |
"I'm glad you liked it, and I'll have none of that." she motioned to him fishing in his pockets. "When you're here, you're family, and family doesn't pay." Seleste finished making up a batch for herself. "You've given me a while of company and thats all the money I need."
|
Leonard immediately paused his hand and took it out of his pocket. "Family... right," he said, repeating what she had said. He looked around the empty inn.
"Are you always this... busy," he asked. |
