It was late. Everyone in Hogwarts was asleep, except for Remus Lupin. Remus had been suffering from acute insomnia as of late. Late at night he would sneak out to the library, find a dark little corner and read. He hadn't been caught yet, or maybe the staff was turning a blind eye, he couldn't be sure. Regardless, night after night he snuck down to the library and spent several hours reading before he'd finally drag himself up to Gryffindor Tower and attempt to get some sleep. The moon shone in through the window above him. Remus sighed. He hated the moon. He wished it would disappear, but that was silly. Soon the moon would be full again, and he'd have to suffer another transformation.

Sirius Black couldn't get to sleep.
He lay stretched out on his assigned bed with the curtains all drawn, hands tucked neatly behind his head, and stared muderously at a wayward wrinkle in the hangings. It had not been the best of nights; he had spent most of it cooped up in the Divination professor's stuffy little office polishing crystal orbs and teacups, being punished for a prank he didn't pull.
Rolling onto one side, Sirius folded an arm up to pillow his head and used the other to twitch aside the curtain a little. "Moony?" he hissed, as quietly as possible. "Moony, you awake?"
There was no reply.
With a great, self-pitying sigh, Sirius Black turned back over and stared up at the ceiling, resolving himself to another sleepless night.

Remus put his book away quietly before tiptoeing back up to Gryffindor Tower. He yawned, finally feeling a little sleepy. He walked up to the Common Room, saying the password. "Kumquat," he said, ignoring the Fat Lady's angry mutterings about him waking her up. He walked up to his dorm and crawled into bed with a heavy sigh. He sniffled a little, wishing he was able to sleep, but he knew sleep wouldn't come.

Thanks to all of the mental unicorn-counting he had been doing, Sirius was finally just starting to drift off to sleep when he heard the soft shush of socks on hardwood flooring. Immediately, he was wide awake.
--An intruder!
An intruder was in the Gryffindor sixth year boys' dormatory. And the sixteen-year-old mind of Sirius Black quickly jumped to the most lewd possiblilty of why there was an unknown somebody creeping around in front of his bed in the middle of the night. He just hoped that it was a hot chick.
Reaching out with a hand that barely trembled visibly, Sirius's fingers grasped the scarlet curtain between him and the possibly-hot-bird-that-was-possibly-going-to-have-her-way-with-him; because in Sirius's mind, everybody wanted him. He was crouched on all fours when he yanked the drapery aside with a flourish, so it took him a moment of awkward teetering off the side of the bed before he was able to properly focus on whoever was sneaking around the room.
"Moony?!" he hissed incredulously from between his teeth. "I thought you were asleep, mate?"

Remus had been so surprised he yipped slightly and fell on his arse. He looked up at his friend with his grey eyes in a sort of stunned silence. He was perfectly quiet and still for about five minutes, his eyes roaming from bed to bed to see if anyone would wake up and complain. There was a disgruntled groan from James' bed, but that was all. Slowly the sixteen-year-old werewolf stood to his feet, his face flushing awkwardly. "I... uh... didn't mean to wake you Padfoot. I'm sorry," he whispered, trying to avoid the subject that he had been out of his bed all night thus far.
