Hito said, "I've got it set up out in the main area." He turned and walked back to Amoni saying, "I think it might be best for us to play and I can explain things along the way. I hope you do not mind?" He got another chair and set it at the table for the boy then sat down himself. He took the board out and began to set up the pieces. As he was setting the board up he explained the various pieces and how the moved.

((Sherry I dont want to go through each move, hope that's okay))

( Perfectly fine with me. =O I dun mind. )

( I have too much of a headache to play well anyways. Dante, on the other hand... xD )

Dante watched the man before sighed and rubbing his face. He stayed in place for a moment before looking back up at Rain. "I'm sorry... could you take care of my bowl for me...?" He muttered quietly. He looked to the floor for a moment before turning away and slumping off after the vampire.

A few coughs and a bit of shivering later he had found a seat across from the vampire. For now he sat cross legged, his head bowed sickly as he awaited the board to be set up.

Sure…” Rain murmured, watching him carefully. She sighed to herself, glancing at the dishes and making a face. She;d always hated the dishes…but she figured she might as well. She did both hers and his easily then refilled her milk. She walked to the doorway and leaned on it, watching the chess group and seeming a little bored. She’d never been much for the game though she could play…

This makes sense…” Amoni said with a nod, watching the two curiously. She fell into silence easily, her gaze following each motion absently. Her hands became still and she seemed to calm, her eyes not following Hito’s face for once but his and Dante’s hands. She was learning, so for a moment the crush fell away and he would find why Amoni had soaked up so much from her ‘papa’ she was a natural student…

Chikuma 12-05-2009 04:33 AM

Hito turned to the boy and asked, "Would you prefer black or white?" He did love this game and was pleasantly surprised when Dante had agreed to play.

((crap, forgive the extreme crappy short post))

Cooking Sherry 12-05-2009 04:38 AM

"Doesn't matter." Dante responded in a monotone, his glazed over eyes meeting the other's. "I can play either or." Well, that's how you fought. You had anything thrown at you, You had to be ready for everything. Sadly, being ready didn't help Dante in this place too often.

Rain rolled her eyes and perched on a bar stool, leaning back. She was debating wandering off but honestly her head hurt to much. So she would sit and watch…once they got started anyway. Rain wasn’t so sure when they would as is…

Amoni tilted her head to the side, curious at their choice to try and make the other choose. She wondered if it could be strategy related but glancing at Dante’s glazed eyes decided it was not. He seemed too tired to care…..in fact he seemed rather ill… The siren frowned to herself but said nothing, just waiting.

Chikuma 12-05-2009 04:43 AM

Hito smiled liking the boys answer and said, "Alright. You will be white and I will be black." He turned the board carefully so the corresponding colors were facing each player. Looking at Amoni he said, "The play with White goes first." He sat back and waited for the boy to make his move as it began to rain outside.

Cooking Sherry 12-05-2009 04:46 AM

Dante shivered from the cold as he pulled himself up and knelt on the chair. It was the only easy way to view the board in this tiny form. Uncomfortable, especially with the lack of warmth, but it was for the best. He reached out, moving one of his pawns forward two spaces before retreating his hand before looking up at the other. It wasn't much of a move, but it opened up a few other possible future moves.

Rain noticed the shiver and sighed, thinking how stubborn he was. She dismissed it, however and quickly went upstairs, glad for a distraction from the game anyway. She returned with a small blanket, walking past dante and tossing it over his shoulders easily. She was tempted to ruffle his hair but resisted, merely giving him a cheeky smile before laying on the couch where she could still see them. She put one arm behind her head, sipping her milk absently.

Amoni is watching xD

Chikuma 12-05-2009 04:50 AM

He noticed the shiver and asked," Would you like a throw blanket. There is one draped on the sofa?" He left it at that and made his move glad to have the game started. As they got into the game Hito made sure to explain certain things and would ask if she understood at various points . He did not discuss strategy too much since it was a still a game and not only a teaching example. Though it did seem she had a good grasp on the rules.

Cooking Sherry 12-05-2009 04:57 AM

Strategy? Well, all of Dante's moves were strategic. Without much effort he could calculate where a piece could go, the repercussions, and the opponent's possible next move. He kept himself 'twenty steps ahead' as they said in Shogi.

Though his moves started offensively, taking quite a few of his opponent's pieces, forcing him into corners and sacrificing his own men, he slowly started to switch to a defensive approach. It was that noise, that tapping everywhere. It was all around him, enclosing him. He pulled the blanket around him after his last move, not saying a thing to Rain as his eyes grew wide in paranoia. He was like a deer in headlights, but he hardly seemed to show it besides the obvious glancing about the room and stoking of his own, bruised neck.

Chikuma 12-05-2009 05:01 AM

Hito was extremely impressed with the boy and how he played. He was a great chess player and it had so far been a very good game. He was glad it had been a challenge and not just a boring defeat. They were both losing pieces and the end of the game was drawing closer. The rain outside began to pour and thunder could be heard.

Staria 12-05-2009 05:02 AM

Rain watched, not particularly caring until she saw Dante’s paranoia. It caused her to bite her lip, recognizing those wide eyes from the night before. She sat up slowly, trying to figure out if she should do something but unsure what… This…she couldn’t just get him drunk again… She glanced up, thinking of the rain.

Amoni seemed to pick up the information easily, tilting her head to the side occasionally as if looking at something that couldn’t quite be seen. She had grasped the rules but right now she was simply trying to digest both players strategy. Chess, she decided, was more a game of strategy then anything… She could see the sudden shift in dante’s, and it caused her to twitch one ear in confusion..

Cooking Sherry 12-05-2009 05:07 AM

"Gh-hah...!" Dante jumped at the crash of thunder. His heart leaped out of his chest as adrenaline pumped. He wasn't cold anymore; he was over heated. The heavier rain hardly helped him relax, rather it made everything weigh down on his tiny body. It was drowning everything out; he hated the rain. Hated it!

He took a deep unsteady breath before taking another of the vampire's pieces. "Check..." His own king was safe, but the other's was in jeopardy. He had the chance to win this already.

Chikuma 12-05-2009 05:10 AM

Hito took note of how on edge the boy seemed. He let out a little laugh and said, "Well it seems I've been done in." He stuck out his hand for a handshake smiling and said, "That was a great game. You are an excellent player."

Staria 12-05-2009 05:13 AM

Rain winced, not at the thunder but dAnte’s discomfort and sound. She walked a little closer, puttng a hand on Dante’s shoulder in a friendly way. “Congrats…” She said softly, hoping she could find a way to calm him down but doubt it. She glanced into the kitchen, thinking a moment but dismissing whatever idea she had.

Seeing the end of the game Amoni nodded to herself, taking in what she could from it. She watched Hito hold out his hand for dante and seemed to approve but there was still a slight curiosity in her eyes. Why was the child acting so frightened? What had hurt him? She frowned a bit to herself but stayed quiet.

Cooking Sherry 12-05-2009 05:16 AM

Dante blinked, staring at the vampire. "You're wrong..." He muttered, pointing to the board. "I said check. I didn't say mate. The game isn't over." He wouldn't accept a win like that. No, he would rather have a win because of his own skill, not because of a mistake.

Thunder crashed again as his body jolted. His eyes hadn't caught it, but he heard the pieces scatter. He'd knocked some of the pieces from his side over, some even falling to the table and floor. He shivered and fought back his nervousness, quickly replacing the pieces to their original locations through pure memory. There was one piece he couldn't replace, though; his poor king that had been laying on the floor under him. He really didn't want to move...

Chikuma 12-05-2009 05:21 AM

Hito said simply, "You're right but I would rather play when you are at one hundred percent. It's no victory for me either if I win when you aren't at your best. I do not know what the matter is but the game is done. We will battle again some time." He wanted the proud human to know that he too would not accept a victory or loss unless his combatant was at full ability.

Cooking Sherry 12-05-2009 05:23 AM

Dante blinked, staring at the vampire for a moment before sighing and sitting back in his chair. So it was that obvious? Of course it was...

He swallowed before slipping away from Rain and off the chair onto his feet. He used the table's leg for support before drowsily wandering to one of the couches. He just wanted to lie down and relax.

Staria 12-05-2009 05:30 AM

Rain sighed, picking up the piece and sitting on the table. She watched as he slipped away and turned towards him, frowning. She picked up the blanket and followed him to the couch before laying it over him a bit. She was still frowning, worried a little. She glanced at the rain, half wanting to stop it but for some reason she’d never been able to affect rain with her magic…

Amoni jumped this time as the pieces went scattering, crossing her hands behind her as she came to a stop in a standing position. She wasn’t use to dante’s fear, and it was starting to make her jumpy. She stepped back, simply standing near the door like a statue a moment. She watched them all…quiet…

Chikuma 12-05-2009 05:32 AM

Hito saw that Rain was watching over the boy so he went to Amoni. He placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and asked, "Are you alright?" He hoped she had not been too startled. He whispered to her, "I would prefer to stay around here in case something happens with the boy. Maybe you should grab that book you were thinking of reading."

Cooking Sherry 12-05-2009 05:36 AM

Dante looked up at Rain a bit shocked for a moment before accepting it. It was just a blanket. He wrapped it around himself as breathed deep, though, causing himself to cough soon after. His head spun, but that was nothing new anymore. He just wanted to stay warm and cuddled up and attempt to relax. He just wanted to relax. He hated the thunder; it always sounded like gunfire.

Gunfire... was someone shooting? What were they shooting at? Not him, obviously, but something. Were people dying? Was everything alright? His eyes dragged to the window warily, searching for a sign.
