Since their parents had died it had been really rough, first finding the money to pay for the funeral. Then between the lack of funds and worry for his brother, David had had to quit school. He'd gone and gotten a job as soon as he could with a distribution company down the road, and now spent his days assembling refrigerators for florists and Department stores.

It was raining, but then recently it felt like it was always raining.
David stood in the kitchen looking out living room window of the small two bed one bath apartment.
There were boxes still stacked around the living room that needed to be unpacked, boxes of dishes and videos and paintings. Boxes of books that needed to be put up on the empty bookshelf that leaned against one of the walls facing the wrong way.
It was six in the morning and David could hear his brother's alarm start to go off.
He smiled a bit as he cracked an egg in the pan, at least he still had him.
David had been up since five, as usual, he was dressed in his navy blue work uniform but his short dirty blond hair didn't look like it had been brushed yet.

To Jason, this all seemed too unreal. Right now, his mom should be waking him up back in the old house, telling him that if he didn't get moving then he wouldn't get any breakfast. That wasn't going to happen today, nor the day after, or day after.

What the boy regrets the most is being mad his mom before they died. Jason had been wanting to go over a friends house that day because all of his friends were going to be there. His mom said no because the boy hadn't finished his homework.

With those thoughts in mind, Jason tossed and turned while trying to go back to sleep. Sleep was now a rare thing for the boy. He up pretty much past midnight trying to go to sleep, but that hardly ever happened. Sighing, Jason tossed the blankets off of himself and started to get ready for his day.

First he got changed into a simply t-shirt and jeans, then he slightly ran his fingers through his hair to get rid of some of his bed-head. For the past five years he's been following the same schedule.

Going out into the living room, Jason peeked into the kitchen to see his brother cooking. The thought of his brother made him smile though. David hadn't left yet.

"Hi," Jason gave his older brother a simple greeting as he walked into the kitchen. "When are you gonna get home from work today?" Jason asked, taking a look over his brother that was all dressed in his work uniform.

David shrugged a bit as set a plate of eggs and sausage on the table. The sight of his little brother was enough to make him forget about all the rain outside.

"probably around five I guess" He said as he walked back in the kitchen and grabbed his mug of coffee. He sat at the table and pushed the plate towards Jason "You're not looking so hot this morning" He said softly.

David cared very much about his brother and didn't like seeing him so tired in the morning.
