"Alright. We will not hurt him then." Seth said.
Thea smiled at him. "Thanks." she told him. "Anything for you sister." he told her. |
Kite wasn't about to let his guard down just yet. "So thats it?" He asked, unsure.
"Yes. Anyone who helps my sister doesn't deserve to die." Seth said.
"How can I trust you?" Kite asked, sword in hand. His grip was as hard as stone on the handle. "Last vampire I met that knew her used me as a punching bag."
"But that guard was an idiot." Thea said.
"Think what you want of me, boy. But I will not harm you. Nor will my men without orders." Seth said. |
"How do I know you have control over them?" Kite asked. "Thea couldn't control the guard from before, idiot or not." He looked at the guards that were with the newcomer. "And these look about as sharp as a marble."
"These men are loyal to me. I have know most of them since I was a small child." Seth said. "If you have a problem with my men, then just leave."
"It isn't as if I have a problem with your men, it's whether or not they have a problem with me." He said, putting the sword back in his sheath and slinging his pack over his shoulder. "You can stay with him if you want, Thea..." He said, pulling out the parchment Simon gave him. "But I've got a mission to do..."
"I think it would be best if I went with you. Besides. I'd probably just get in their way." Thea said.
"No you wouldn't." Seth said. "That's what you think. But I still think it would be best if I went with Kite." ".....Alright. If that's what you think is best." He turned to Kite. "If she goes with you and gets harmed in any way, I will personally make sure you die in the most painful way you could imagine." he said to him. |
"Oh trust me..." Kite said in a dark tone, remembering what happened when he let his magic take over. "Both you and I would be dead if we got in any fight..." He said, darkly, continuing to walk. "I'd let you tag along, but your guard buddies don't really fit well into the background of where we're going."
"Never said I wanted to tag along. There are places I need to be." Seth said. He gave Thea a hug before she went after Kite.
"Why is he so stiff?" Kite said after fifteen minutes of walking, well out of earshot of her brother. "I mean, at first I thought he would attack, but now it seems like he just doesn't care."
(I'm gonna call it a night.) |
{{Alright.}}
"He's got a lot of things that he needs to have done. Plus he's expecting you to protect me if there is a fight. If he didn't trust you, he wouldn't have let me come with you." Thea said. |
(ok, so apparently I called it a few nights XD)
Kite wasn't convinced. In his mind, all vampires aside from Thea wanted to kill him. He was trained as a kid to think like that. Better safe than sorry. Still, Kite got a small sense of pride from her words. "Needing me to protect you, huh?" He said, more to himself, a small trace of a smile appearing on the corner of his mouth. Before Thea popped up, his life had been, well, lifeless. Now he was out on the open road, negotiating past vampires, well out of the bounds of his comfort zone. |
"Personally, I don't think I would need help. I know how to fight. I'm just not the best fighter out of my family. But I am his only sister. So of course he wants me safe." Thea said.
Then something crossed Kite's mind. "Wait, so if you ran away, why did he just let you pass today?" He asked, midstep.
"I didn't run away. I was taken prisioner. And I don't know that he knew that." Thea said.
Kite really felt like an idiot now. "Sorry, I'm just a bit frazzled by all of this."
"It's alright. I understand that." Thea said.
Kite walked in silence for a few more hours, lost in thought. So lost in thought, in fact, that he didn't notice the tree in his path until he walked into it. "Gah!" He said, holding his nose. "We're here, the woods where simon's brother is." That sounded less impressive out loud than in his head.
"Alright. And where are we going to find him?" Thea asked. She was starting to get tired of walking. And she was getting hungry.
Kite noticed her irritation. He pulled out the map Simon gave him. The landscape on the map jumped out as it did before, only everything had moved. The X was still there, staring at Kite in the face.
"Looks like there's a path ahead, but it winds around...a lot..." He said. Words suddenly appeared below the X. "Don't stray off the path..." |
"Alright. Can we rest first?" Thea asked.
"Uh, sure. We can camp for the night." Kite said.
"Great." Thea said. She sat down on a rock near the path.
