"Are you sure you don't need any help?" Thea asked.
Kite fell again. "Alright, you can come...." He groaned. "But you need a disguise."
"Ok. What did you have in mind?" Thea asked.
Kite spent the next fifteen minutes rifling through old clothes in a wooden chest in his room. He almost laughed at how he came up with such a cliche idea, but decided it would be best to go through with it.
Thea sat on his bed. She watched him as he went through a chest.
"Here it is." Kite tossed an old cloak with hood to her. It had been at the bottom of the chest for years. "It may not suit a princess, but it'll work." Kite leaned against the wall, trying to stay upright.
"It's perfect." Thea said. She stood up and put it on.
"Alright, you put that on. I'm gonna go find a stick." Kite walked, more limped, out of the room, shutting the door behind him. He was feeling better, hurting, but better. The Magic doesn't want me dead yet.... He thought, decending the stairs, nearly toppling over a few times.
Thea put the cloak on as she waited for him to return.
Kite found what he was looking for. It was a piece of his doorframe that the guard had broken. It was about his hight. "Almost perfect..." he said to himself. "Why don't you come downstairs, I'm not gonna climb those things in my condition."
Thea came down. She stopped next to him. "Ready to go?" she asked.
Kite turned towards Thea, then paused. She looked very beautiful in the robe with the sunlight shining through the window. "Y-yes, I'm ready..." Kite said, shaking the trance off. That was odd.... He thought, moving towards the door. "You may want to put your hood on, don't want anyone getting suspicious until we get to the shaman." He said over his shoulder. "After that, I'm gonna have to fix up this house."
Thea pulled up the hood. "I'm sorry about what happened to your house. It was my fault." she said. "I would like to make up for it somehow." she added.
"Don't mention it, the old thing was falling apart anyway." Kite said, opening the door.
"After you." He said, motioning to the light that flooded into the room. "You need those goggle thingys from before?" He asked, remembering she was a vampire. |
"Yes. I do." Thea said. She put them back on and smiled at him. She headed out the door into the sunlight.
"I love the way the sun feels." she said. "It's just so warm." |
"Wow, never thought I'd hear that from a vampire. Now, be careful. This is risky." He said, more reminding himself than her. He leaned heavily on his walking stick. They had walked through the village for an hour now. "I feel like an old man." Kite said slightly annoyed. "There's the shaman's house up ahead" He said, pointing with his free hand. It wasn't much of a house, more of a teepee really. There were odd symbols covering the place in red and blue ink.
"I went to a shamen once. It was years ago with my brothers. I was a very interesting experience." Thea said. "I was just a little girl back then. And I refused to go closer than a few feet to the place."
"If you want to wait outside, you can. But I need to go in there right now. When humans use a magic that is more than they can handle, it starts to consume them. I'm not letting that happen to me. Not without a fight." And with that, Kite strode into the teepee.
Thea stood outside for a few seconds before following him inside. She didn't want to be out there if hunters came by. That would not be good for her.
The inside to the teepee seemed much bigger than the outside. A wooden pole stood in the middle with many carvings in it, holding up the cloth. The entire place smelled entirely of incense. To kite, it felt like home. There was an old man sitting in front of the pole with his back turned to him, wearing an old poncho. "Hello again, my old student. How's life going? I see you've met a new friend. It would appear she's a vampire, no?" He said, not turning around. Kite was shocked. "You can't hide anything from me, my friend." The shaman said, turning to look at the two. "I see everything."
"I am sure you can shaman. If you couldn't, you wouldn't be a good one, would you?" Thea asked him.
"No, I suppose I would not." The shaman said with a chuckle. He stood up, leaning on and old staff. He had a grey beard that fell to his knees, tanned skin, and many wrinkles. However, his most striking feature was his eyes. They were a deep, dark, blue, the color of the ocean on a starless night. Kite felt as if he was getting wiser just by looking into his eyes. "Don't worry, your secret's safe with me." He said. "It would appear we aren't so different after all, huh Kite?" He said with a crooked smile, pointing to Kites sorry excuse for a walking stick.
"Can you hurry up here Kite? I do not like it here. And I do not trust shamen." Thea said. She turned to the man. "No offense to you." she told him.
"Non taken." The old man said. "By the way, I have a name you know." He said, heading towards the back of the teepee. "It's Simon." He said, rummaging through a drawer, throwing things everywhere. "Ah, here it is." He exclaimed with satisfaction, pulling out an old piece of paper that looked like it had been crumpled up a few times. "Burn this and dissolve it in some hot water, that should solve your magic problem." He said. "Wait that's it? What happened to the huge ritual that you did to me a few years ago?" Kite asked, staring at the paper. "You were too young to use this, so we had to do it the hard way. This paper is made from the leaves of the white tree. It makes a nice tea, but also weakens magic. Unfortunately, you wont be able to use any magic while it's in effect." Simon said, handing it to him. "So what, is she your girlfriend or something." Kite nearly fell. Simon had a way of sneaking a personal subject in and making a huge assumption about it at the same time. He was rather odd for an old shaman. "Er...no, I'm just trying to help her." Kite said, his face showing no reaction at all to the untrained eye. However, Simon caught the slight pink hue on his face. His only reply was "Whatever you say."
[Sorry for the amount of time it took to type this and the length of the text. I'm a writer, what can I say?] |
{{It's ok. But my reply probably won't ever be that long.}}
Thea had noticed the Kite's face turned slightly pink when the shaman said she was his girlfriend. But she didn't say anything about it. It was none of her business. |
