"Twenties." She had always thought that she looked to be at least twenty two, in a sloppy sort of way. Asta too was sloppy. "What does that have to do with anything?" she asked.
Asta was becoming incredibly slow with her wits over the course of these past twenty four hours, she was. It was due to the sleep situation no doubt, but still, what was the point of even trying to sleep when she knew that if was a lost and depressing cause? |
"Twenties. Alright. Now, might I see your lovely bracelet? I promise to return it, I just wish to show you something," Ana replied. She knew very well that the bracelet was made of silver; after all, it had once been hers. And while she was quite a bit older than Allen, she silver would burn her just as easily as it had him. Silver was a metal of purity, which is why it worked so well on creatures of the night.
|
With a sigh, Asta had a feeling she knew where this was going. The only thing was, she noticed that as soon as the silver touched Ana's skin... the burning began. And there it was, just like that.. The burns of doom were on Ana's hands, and there sat Asta, completely slack-jawed.
"No!" she cried suddenly, shoving herself away from the table. It's not possible! Vampires aren't real! I'm dreaming!" |
Calmly, Ana laid the bracelet down on the table and waited for her hands to start healing. The burns stung, but she'd endured silver burns far worse before and had come out unscathed in the end. She sat there quietly while she waited for Asta to calm herself a little.
"You said you thought I am in my twenties," she said softly. "I would have turned twenty in the Year of Our Lord sixteen ninety-three. In reality, I just turned three hundred and thirty-seven this past All Hallow's Eve." |
This was witchcraft, or some devil's work! Certainly none of this was real. It was physically impossible! "Out of my house!" Asta shoved herself to her feet, and pointed to the door, forcing Ana out. She slammed the door once more, but not for purpose of anger or anything. She was just a bit mortified.. But she'd be okay.
The next night, she sat on the steps for her apartment. She'd done lots of thinking over the day, and had a decision. She was waiting for the final element, but she had a feeling that he would never show. |
Ana allowed herself to be pushed from the apartment. She understood that it was a lot to take in, and she was the intruder, regardless. Before she retired for the night, she left a bag of blood and a note for Allen, and then went into her own apartment. Her bed was starting to look very inviting.
Once Allen was finished getting ready, he made his way outside. He was surprised to see Asta outside. She couldn't possibly be waiting for him, could she? It had to be a coincidence. He thought that she never wanted to see him again. Right? |
And there Asta sat still, playing with the bracelet he'd given her. It was a lovely bracelet. She loved it too, and not just because it came from Allen. Yes, that was partly her love for the bracelet.
Asta sat still, not really aware that Allen was in the general area. She looked very tired still, and her chin was propped up on her hand, and her elbow was propped on her knee. She was waiting for Allen. Who else would she be waiting for? It's not like anyone else had the right mind to only come out at night. |
Allen walked up to Asta hesitantly, not even noticing that his footsteps were silent. She still looked tired... Almost as if she hadn't gotten any sleep the night before.
"Asta?" he asked softly, not wanting to startle her. She was still wearing his bracelet... That was a good sign, right? |
Asta looked up swiftly, as if to make sure that she weren't hearing things. And there he stood, looking all pretty in the darkness and whatnot. She didn't know what to say though! Asta hadn't had a plan for him actually showing up and speaking to her.. yet she waited for hours just to see him..
"What..?" Her voice wasn't snappish or anything, but it was the best thing that she could muster up. |
"You... waited for me? Or am I imagining things?" he asked. It was a legitimate question. After all, he thought that she was upset with him, and didn't girls stay upset for a while? He was never going to figure out how girls worked at this rate... "Should I leave...?"
|
Getting to her feet all wobbly like, she stared at him for a good moment. He seemed puzzled as to why she was doing so. "Can I see them?" she asked softly, stepping toward him, and nearly colliding down the stairs. Asta was very tired..
"Your.. teeth, I mean.." |
"My... teeth?" Allen asked, surprised. "Sure, I guess." He opened his mouth a bit, showing her his fangs. He didn't know why she wanted to see them, but he wasn't about to refuse when she was actually paying attention to him. Perhaps he'd be able to get back on her good side somehow.
|
And there they were, clear as day. How had she never seen them before? That's what she wanted to know! But she'd take what she could get, and give up on the romantic, 'I want Allen' train. It was no use now that all had been revealed... He wasn't going to want someone he wanted to harm physically anyway.
With a smile, Asta jumped onto him one more, arms grasping around him eagerly. She seemed pleased over all, or at least to the point that she was forgiving him. Maybe she was just that tired..? |
Allen froze, surprised. Hesitantly, he wrapped his arms around her and returned the hug, making sure not to hurt her.
"Are you forgiving me?" he asked. He didn't know how he'd be able keep up with all of her mood swings. Somehow, she'd gone through at least three emotions already, and they'd only been in the same place as one another for a few minutes! |
There wasn't anything to forgive.. Allen had done nothing wrong. He told her the truth. "It's not your fault," she said simply, nodding, and then moving away from him a bit wobbly again. She was beyond exhausted. "I'm so tired..." Asta was whining as she opened her apartment door, leaving it open so that Allen could enter as well. Immediately she fell onto the couch. "Y--- you can stay.." And then she was done. It was so sad that so soon she was passing out in front of him.
|
"Alright..." Hesitantly, Allen sat down next to her on the couch. He made a note of where the windows were, and scoped out where he would crash if he didn't leave before daybreak. Perhaps he could ask her to cover the windows with blankets... The thin gauzy curtains didn't look lioke they would keep out much sunlight.
"So what changed your mind?" he asked softly. |
"Nothing.." Liar!
She sprawled over the furniture more, eyes opening only so that they could focus on Allen. "You know, if it's not dark enough in here, you can sleep in my room, and I'll just sleep here.. I don't mind." Her room had thicker curtains, anyway. And her room was painted a fairly dark color, so why not, really? "I'll be fine here on the couch." |
"I'll be alright until daybreak," Allen replied. She looked tired, and deserved her own bed after what she'd gone through. "You can sleep, if you'd like. I might head back to my own apartment before morning, so that's where I am if I'm not here when you wake up. Thanks for the offer, though." He looked around the apartment. It was simple, but somehow seemed comforting and lived-in at the same time. There was a lingering scent of... something, but he couldn't place it. Then it hit him. There were lingering traces of Ana's scent.
"Please don't try to hit me or something for asking this, but I'm kind of curious... What did you and Ana talk about?" he asked. He cringed a bit, waiting for her to yell at him. |
Ana. She sighed outwardly, and looked to him with soft eyes. "Nothing.." she said softly, closing her eyes back again so that she rest. "And I don't want to fall asleep while you're awake. You're my guest, and I'll feel bad.." She hated when people invited her places and then just left her on her own. It was very pointless in her opinion.
Suddenly, Asta shot up. "I'll stay awake!" But only for him.. She had a feeling that she was going to be asked about Ana again, so why not? |
"If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. She didn't say what you talked about, either, but it was also just in a sticky note stuck to my door," Allen said. "I won't pry if you don't want me too... my sister would probably kill me if she found out I did." And she would, too. Melissa was strict about girls and their secrets, and she had threated a few times to eviscerate him if he snooped around.
|
"Well, thank you..." Asta said softly, eyes scanning down for a very brief moment. Now, the awkwardness of the situation genuinely popped in. Asta didn't know what to say.. they didn't know each other enough to really make conversation, and there was nothing for them to really do. Television was boring, and.. other than that, she had no idea that would really pique his interests.
"So.." she added. The only thing she could think of, were questions about what he was. |
"You look like you have questions," Allen said. "Ask all you like, it won't bother me. Though," he added, "any really complicated questions may not get answered right." He hoped that she would take him up on the offer, the akwardness was starting to become a little much.
|
Asta sort of looked down, and then looked back at him after a moment. She wasn't really sure on what to ask, but at the same time, she was. She wanted to ask him lots of questions, like the stereotypical cross, holy water, and garlic ordeals. But at the same time she knew she was going to sound stupid. She was so frustrated!
"Are you hungry?" Oh damn. First thing to pop out was already bad. |
Allen blinked at the question surprised. He could feel the faint buzz of hunger, but it was nothing unusual, and certainly nothing he couldn't ignore for a while.
"A little, but nothing I can't ignore," he replied. "I've found that the hunger is always there, but I can ignore it for a while. I guess it gets easier with time, because I think Ana ignored it for like a week, at least since I've known her." Ge grinned at her. "Next question?" |
So she had a hungry vampire in her living room? Asta sort of cocked her head to the side, and then sighed. "Well, if you get really hungry, what are you going to do?" She was absently wondering if he would turn on her. She didn't believe it, but if he ignored the hungry long enough.. well, that couldn't be good then, could it?
"You can go ahead and go and eat if you want." Asta smiled a little shyly as she spoke next. "You don't have to stay with me. I won't mind." |
