Didier rolled his eyes, but smiled, taking her hand, "But one more thing..." he said, pulling her closer to him, until they were literally face-to-face. He moved a hand to her cheek and pressed his lips against hers, just one more time before they went above deck, where they certainly wouldn't be able to do anything like that. It almost seemed like the night before, all the exchanging and admittance of their feelings, was just a dream. He wanted to know that it was not just words, that it was all true, and really happened.

A small, startled gasp escaped the girl's lips before she lifted a hand to his face and kissed him back. She desperately wanted to let him know that she had meant it, that what she had said wasn't a lie. After a second she pulled back, taking a deep, shaky breathe. "Come on, you scoundrel," she muttered playfully, kissing him again before straightening up. "If you haven't any other, ah, business to attend to, I suggest we get going." Her aqua green eyes sparkled playfully as she tugged gently on his hand. |
The way she had kissed him back warmed him through and through. He knew it was genuine, that everything that had happened before was real, and that there really was something between him. Secretly, he was elated; he couldn't have been happier. Didier laughed hard at what Nick said, which hurt his back but less than it had before, "Admit it- you love it when I'm your scoundrel." he smiled up at her. Laughing again he nodded, "I think we're good to go."

She couldn't help but laugh as she pulled him carefully to his feet. "Hmm, maybe," she said smugly, before taking his hand and leading him out. Down the hall and up the stairs, she paused at the door that led onto the deck. "You ready for this," she asked, looking back at him. "Remember, don't look directly at the sun," she said teasingly. |
Didier tried to stand on his own, but was so wobbly on his feet that he would have fallen if it weren't for Nick. Slowly, he wobbled along beside her, holding her hand, and growing more sure on his feet with each step. He felt like a child who was just learning to walk. It wasn't as though he had forgotten, but that he was still weak and it made supporting his own weight a bit hard for him.
When she told him not to look into the sun, he laughed, "I'll also try not to turn to dust." he joked. |
Nick grinned and pushed open the door, warm sunlight spilling over their bodies. She waited for him to tell her they could go out- didn't want to push him into the blinding light too fast, after all. |
Didier took a few moments to see, squinting and blinking like an idiot, but eventually he nodded to Nick, "Let's go then." he laughed, "No sense in putting it off too long." he said, walking forward, still only able to squint through the light of the bright sun.

Nick smiled, a real, genuine smile, and followed him out, casting a cool eye over the deck. It seemed to get a little quiter, but there was no real change in the attitude or motions of the crew. |
Didier could see a little better with the passing moments, and he turned to look at Nick, then everyone else, "What? You look like you've seen a ghost." he said to the small group who was looking at him. Among the group was one of the men who had saw Didier go down in the fight. He obviously hadn't been expecting him to live.
Turning back to Nick he asked, "Where are we going again?" |
Nick looked at him, then grinned and shrugged. "Haha, did we even decide if we wanted to go anywhere in particular," she asked, ignoring the glances from around her. It wasn't bothering her- maybe it was just because Jim had said something, and that he was such an unsufferable butt sometimes. |
Didier shook his head slowly, "No... no, I don't think we decided." he laughed, "Where's the best place to sticl someone like me?" he laughed again.

Nick grinned, shaking her red curls out of her eyes. "I'm not so sure about that one, m'boy," she said rather cheerily. "I'm liable to stick ye with the other invalids, but I couldn't stand to do it. Waste of space," she said with a wry smile and a wink. "Wanna go see the captain? I'm sure he'll be pleased to see you're doing fine." |
Didier considered going to see the captain, briefly. He would most definitely want to see that Didier was doing well and that he wasn't too seriously wounded, but at the same time, he was sure the Captain would be busy taking care of other things- more important things than him. Finally deciding, he shook his head, "Nah, 'e's boun' to be up to somethin' more important. Let's not bother 'im." he said. Looking around a moment, thinking he asked, "Don't you have to go back to ze injured people? Why don't I go there with you?"

Nick chewed on her lip, thinking. "We could do that," she said, taking his hand and leading him to the door that led to the sick bed. "I just have to check on the others, so we shouldn't have to be there long, but its somethin' ter do." |
Nodding he told her, "Take yer time. It's not like I'm going anywhere." he laughed. He then moved to follow her, wondering if she was noticing the glances they were getting as well. The question was: were they for him being alive, or for him having been the night with her?

Nick pulled him into the sick bay, then reached around him and closed the door, sighing in relief. "It's like runnin' a gauntlett out there," she muttered, before looking up at him and offering a grin. "Come on, you, we've got ourselves a bit o' work to do. Ye may be injured, but that don't mean I can't put you to work," she said sweetly, still holding his hand. Actually, she wouldn't have minded doing the work by herself- it would help her take her mind off things. But she knew he'd be bored, just sitting there, and she'd feel bad if she didn't give him something small to do. |
Didier laughed, "Alright, what can a cripple like me do around here? With no medical knowledge whatsoever..." he added, pointing out that he wouldn't be much help on that level. He could still bring supplies around, or help re-bandage wounds, but that was the extent of what he thought he could do to help.

"Could you check on Jacob," she asked over her shoulder, crossing the room to get some supplies. "He's gpt a nasty gash on his arm that probably needs to be rewrapped." She opened a cabinet and rummaged through it, cursing at how very little supplies they had. They needed to find port soon and restock, or else no one would be able to be helped should they get hurt in the next battle. |
"Alright." he called to her, walking over to Jacob to first get an idea of the damage and what he would need for supplies. They murmured their hello's and Didier told him he would be back in a few to rewrap that arm of his. Indeed, it was in desperate need of rewrapping. He walked to the supply closet where Nick had been through already and grabbed what he needed. He didn't know much about medicine or anything, but he didn't know how to clean and bandage a wound properly- or at least decently, he thought.
When he was done with Jacob, through all the small talk and such, Dider moved around the room, slowly, looking for others in need of new bandages. Occasionally, he did find one in need of his help, and began the same process with them as he had with Jacob. When he had finished there, he found no one else he could help and returned to Nick, "I've checked and done all I could. Most of these men look like they'll be fine. That's good." he said, unsure of what to talk about in front of all the people. Never before had chatting with Nick on deck been so odd for him. But it comes with a confession of love, doesn't it? |
She turned to face him and managed a grin, pushing dark red curls out of her face. "Thats good, thanks a lot," she said, before looking around. Everyone was either talking amongst themselves or taking the opportunity to sleep; it was almost peaceful here. "Looks like we're not needed for now," she said, turning back to him. She looked up at him and realized how tense she was; she tried to relax, closing her eyes for a second. |
When Nick closed her eyes, Didier's head reacted on its own and reached up, and brushed the back of her cheek with the back of his fingers. Almost instantly he realized what he was doing, in front of everyone, and retracted his hand, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to, not hear..." he apologized, unsure of whether or not she wanted everyone to know about 'them' yet. At least he hadn't kissed her. Not in that room, not until he knew what the two of them were, or who should know.

Nick's eyes flew open as she felt his fingers brushed her cheeks. She managed a wry, albeit tired, grin, fighting her blush. "Its ok," she murmured, her voice dropping. "Don't think anyone saw." She wasn't sure exactly where they were at the moment, and until she had it figured out she didn't want anyone getting the wrong idea- and the people here were notorious for getting the wrong idea. |
Didier had known she wouldn't want anyone to know, but it still stung a little to hear it from her herself. Still, he returned the smile and looked around, sighing a little, tiredly, "So, now what is it we need to do?"

Nick blinked, startled, and touched his hand lightly, frowning a bit. "Hey..." she trailed off, still frowning as she let her hand drop. "I don't think there's anything else for us to do here. What do you want to do?" |
Didier smiled a bit when she touched his hand, but he felt a bit guilty- Nick had probably picked up on his being hurt. When she let go and asked what he wanted to do, he just shrugged, "Well, I can' do my work, since if I tried to lift the net or pull anything, I'd rip open my back. Let's just go out on the deck awhile, see what pops up." he suggested, walking towards the door of the room, waiting for her to follow, "Unless you have something else in mind?"
