Wanderlust (TeeJayedee and Chagera)

The town was bustling with life, women walking from shop to shop purchasing food and luxury goods as well. Bolts of fabric were balanced on seamstresses shoulders, Baskets of breads in the bakers arms.

Outside one of the fruit stalls stood a dark haired man in a Navy blue tailcoat with gold embroidery along the white cuffs and hems, long dark pants and leather boots that went about to mid calf. His hands were stuffed in his shallow pants pockets as he leaned over the stall flirting with the woman who ran it. Using his charm and wits to get her to drop the price. The results of his effort were a bag of Mangoes that had been dropped far below their original price.

Nyra Geran was the man's name, and he was a notorious womanizer. Rumor had it he left lovely green and blue feathers with those women he really preferred. In reality though the feathers just dropped from his hair during certain seasons. There was nothing he could do about it, those were molting seasons and once the feathers fell from his body he could no longer mask them. For you see, Nyra was not human, and probably wouldn't be anything close to human for a long time yet. Nyra was one of the Geruda clan, a race of half human bird men that had long been forced into hiding with may of the other fae and Mythos in this region.

Nyra liked this town, but when he saw the large group of young men and husbands gathered outside his door this morning he knew it was time to leave. Sure he could take them, but he really didn't feel like causing that much trouble.

And so it was with a small basket of Mangoes that he began his trip in search of a town he hadn't already occupied in the last fifty years. He was on foot all the way through town and then, when he was sure no one was looking, he changed into a large crane sized green and blue bird of Paradise, complete with a crest of silky blue feathers atop his head and a flowing tail.

Those few people that saw the bird flutter from the marsh near the town were confused and quickly went into town to spread the news of their sighting.

An interesting development

Shaninaa was far from her spring, she felt it calling her back. But she had to visit cousin Chashandi, because Mother would bother her about it every time she talked to her if she didn't. Not that Mother came around much, but when your mother is a Titan it's bad when they're angry.

She was just leaving Chashandi's marsh when she saw it. An oversized bird of paradise. She liked birds. The Naiad wondered what she could do to attract it to her spring.

Shaninaa could fly after a fashion, if only for a short time, as mist in the air, but that would not be likely to get the bird's attention. She settled for using the brook that ran from her cousin's marsh towards her own spring. Now and again she would leap from the brook, streaking across, making little rainbows in her wake. It was the best she could do to be seen from the skies.

Chagera 10-28-2009 07:04 AM

For a while Nyra flew in silence with the basket in his talons, he was following the stream, because if he ended up sinking at least then he would not need to steer so much.

The flight was relatively peaceful, but dull. Then his golden avian eyes caught a glimmer of something in the stream below him, flickering and creating rainbows in it's wake. A naiad perhaps, but water beasts could be so tricky sometimes, often posing as something else to lure prey in. For a moment Nyra reflected on the lack of honor in tricking something into your mouth instead of just hunting it down.

But as was typical of this man, curiosity got the best of him. Dipping slightly to the left he began to descend, making the occasional correction due to the basket in his feet.

Now he was flying over the water spirit, just a few feet away from her higher leaps, "And a good Marrow to you my good fae" He called, he wasn't sure of the creature's gender yet and did not want to make incorrect assumptions. He'd occasionally drift to the side as he flew, again the cause of this was the basket in his talons.

Mae Govannen!

"Mae Govannen, oh wondrous bird!" Shaninaa condensed herself to a pillar of water with the head and shoulders of her womanly form atop it. "Shan was trying to attract you, but Shan had no idea you were one of the birdfolk! This is a joyous day indeed" The pillar grew two arms suddenly as she clapped, the sound being the same as waves falling on the shore.

"Shan is headed home to my spring, as Shan has been out visiting. Would you take time away from your urgent... fruit delivery... to dally at Shan's spring for awhile, perchance?"
She swirled around a few times, her "hair" flapping about her as she did.

"Shan so seldom gets visitors..." She paused, waiting for the response.

Chagera 10-28-2009 04:09 PM

"Ah miss you mistake me for a Delivery bird, this here is my fruit" Nyra chuckled as he did circles around the Nymph so as to stay airborne, "And since I am no real hurry to any such place, I do suppose it would not hurt me to visit with you for a time. After all I do so love meeting new faces."
When she had mentioned having a spring he knew he was safe, she was one of those stationary water folk. Many times they were harmless, it was the ones that moved around that were more dangerous. The mermaids, the water horses and so forth.

TeeJayeDee 10-28-2009 07:42 PM

A happy meeting?

Shaninaa smiled broadly and whirled to the east, pointing a long arm towards the base of some hills in the distance. "That is Shan's spring, near the little village. Shan shall meet you there!"

Shaninaa's body collapsed into the brook, and she flowed up it until it source, which was still a distance from her spring. The Naiad formed a humanoid body and walked out of the water, and started towards the base of the hill where her spring was. She looked behind her to see if the birdfolk had been able to keep up...

Chagera 10-28-2009 08:02 PM

Nyra shook his head as he flew, truly she was a friendly water sprite. He landed on the hill a little ways away, carefully setting the basket on the ground.
He extended his large wings and flapped them, once, twice. Then there was a soft popping noise and a flurry of feathers as the bird doubled in size becoming human.

Nyra shook his head pulling a feather from the loose front part of his hair and adjusting his coat a little before heading towards the spring on foot. He carried the basket in his hand. Then he stopped smiling at her a little.

His smile was one of those ever contagious smiles, "Well this is a lovely spot, you don't mind if I Picnic here do you? I didn't get a chance to eat breakfast this morning."

TeeJayeDee 10-29-2009 05:19 AM

"Oh of course not! Shan loves company! Shan's full name is Shaninaa." She smiled and dove briefly into her spring, then walked out of it, looking for all the world like an elf maiden.

"Shan shall join you. Simply being back at Shan's spring is bringing back Shan's strength." She sat down near him. "Shan has never met a bird folk before. What shall Shan call you?"

Chagera 11-01-2009 04:49 PM

Nyra bowed his head cordially and smiled "You may call me Nyra" He said as he pulled out one of the ripe red-orange fruits and holding it out to her.

"You do eat this stuff I presume" He asked softly, knowing well that there were some entities that did not eat in the same way that he did. There were some wood Nymphs that fed completely on sunlight, and then there were the darker vampyric types, some actually feeding on blood and others that fed on warmth.

He sat cross legged as he took a small bite from his own mango, licking his lips a little as he did.

TeeJayeDee 11-03-2009 05:55 AM

"Don't have to but Shan can and it's fun!" She took the proffered fruit and sat opposite Nyra, taking a bite. "Sun and wind keeps Shan going but solids' food is fun!"

She stretched out a bit, and took another bite. "Where were you going in such a hurry, Nyra? I so seldom get visitors at my spring..."

While she asked, the air became a bit more humid, but cooler, as she cocked her head waiting for a reply.

Chagera 11-04-2009 09:31 PM

Nyra chuckled a bit "Looking for a town I haven't been to in at least sixty years. I'm afraid I caused a few to many young wives to become distracted from their husbands... And so said husbands were at my door this afternoon ready for a fight. They couldn't harm me...but I've no interest in harming them."

He was never shy about his more lecherous habits with those of a similar kind, after all ageless things would eventually discover he lied if ever he did, it was just better to lay it all out in the open.

TeeJayeDee 11-06-2009 05:54 AM

Aha

"Oh you solids and your preoccupation with procreation. Shan supposes it is to be expected because of the pleasure Shan has been told it causes you. To Shan, an act like that is just as pleasurable as eating this fruit, or an especially good swim with the current rushing through you... oh now that is heaven! Shan supposes that Shan could indulge you eventually in that sort of thing, but Shan is not terribly interested in that at the moment." Shaninaa took a large bite of the fruit, and giggled.

"Shan knows where there are a lot of folks you may not have seen before. My half-sister is a Siren who lives on an island not too far from the coast near here. Spend some time with Shan and she will show you... yes she will."

Chagera 11-06-2009 03:05 PM

Nyra smiled and bobbed his head a little in understanding, his mouth full. "I was not propositioning you though miss" He said with that dangerously lovely smile, "I've never actually gone after a woman...I am just a flirt and a Tease it's them that come willing to my bedchambers...though when asked by their husbands they will deny it and say I had bewitched them." He paused for a moment "Which actually I suppose isn't entirely untrue, though not so much in a magical sense"

He finished off his Mango and set the woody pit on the ground before starting to lick his fingers clean. "I knew a Siren once, sort of...though it was not your sister that much is for certain because this one was male. But he is far far on the other side of the continent."

TeeJayeDee 11-07-2009 02:32 AM

Conversation

"Ah, Shan understands. Shan was just bored because she never has visitors at her spring. But now that Shan has a visitor, she doesn't know what to do!" The naiad giggled and stretched briefly. "Do you have any ideas, because Shan doesn't right now..."

(( Wondering where you want to go with this RP... LOL ))

Chagera 11-07-2009 04:35 PM

((LOL Initial disinterest is only natural. He has respect for his own...kind))

Nyra shrugged a little and smiled "For me this is no more than meeting and making new friends" He said softly "Better to make allies of those around you, than enemies..."

He scratched his chin "I've an intriguing question to propose though, to my knowledge...Your kind...cannot leave where they are born. Suppose one was to fill a flask with water from your spring though...would you be able to leave with that person."

By the look on his face he was clearly deep in thought about something and he tugged at his braid a little as he did.

TeeJayeDee 11-09-2009 03:56 AM

Moving along

"Hmm. Shan does not know. Shan brings a lot of her water with her when she goes to visit family, but it is within herself. Shan can leave her spring, but only for a short time. There is also a ritual Shan can perform to allow a moving to a new place. My aunt Foshino moved to live in a grand fountain at some human king's castle... Why do you ask?" She looked at him rather curious, and somehow excited by the prospect of moving around. The naiad's eyes seemed to ripple with anticipation of his reply.

Chagera 11-09-2009 05:36 PM

Nyra shrugged "It would just be rather nice to have a companion at times....one of my kind that I could talk too..." He said softly "My friend ...across the continent...well he's a bit preoccupied with his new wife, and I've been alone and friendless for sometime now. Mortals are fine sometime...but I still have to keep so many secrets from them"

Nyra smiled and pulled out a flask, " I was also thinking that it might be nice for you if you could move around freely...it would make you less vulnerable to humans as they are expanding..."

TeeJayeDee 11-18-2009 04:16 AM

Moving?

"Is there a place that you have in mind for Shan? This ritual isn't undertaken easily, and it takes some time. Shan also has to have some of the water from the new place to make the transfer." The naiad didn't totally refuse this veiled offer, but she was skeptical. She had just met this birdman, pleasant though he was, and was not fully ready to trust him. There may be some ulterior motive. She had heard of spirits that had been captured and held against their will and she didn't want to become one of them.

Shaninaa looked over at him curiously for her answer.

Chagera 11-18-2009 08:13 PM

Nyra pulled out a small canteen and tossed it to Shan, "Can you use this? To hold water to ...reside in?" He asked quietly, "I'm only suggesting making your self mobile for a while, think of it as an experiment..." He said now pulling his knees to his chest and resting his head on them.

"Those fae that are trapped...and bound to their rivers and trees...and mountains, are the ones facing the worst prosecution." he said softly, almost sadly, "I just hate seeing our kind being forced to suffer like this...I just think...that we should explore options to try and help them.... I met a Dryad once. Who carried around a stunted tree...and that was his tree where his spirit was bound. I figure if it can work for a dryad....why not try it with others.."

He smiled that winning smile once again, "and of course you'd be the one in charge of the canteen..."

TeeJayeDee 11-19-2009 06:15 AM

Travelin' Shan'

"Water that does not move would make Shan listless after awhile, she thinks. But Shan would like to travel... and Shan has her own container." She tapped on her chest. "Inside, Shan carries a small crystal with her heartwater in it. If Shan stays here at her spring for a day or so, she can do the ritual to separate herself from this spring. Then Shan could find a new place and travel with you. Shan understands that you cannot comprehend this need Shan has to have her own place, but she does. It would be fun to travel for awhile. The reason why Shan has not done this before is that she has had no one to travel with. Travel is for sharing, Shan thinks..." She trailed off, semi-lost in thought.

Chagera 11-19-2009 06:01 PM

Nyra nodded a little "I suppose that works to then" He said looking at her with a smile "How long can you go like that though?" He asked, "Is there a limit to how long and how far you can travel?"

This idea intrigued him a little as well, he was a naturally curious man. He knew the basics about most Fae but he'd forgotten just how unique and surprising they could all be.

TeeJayeDee 11-21-2009 07:59 AM

Travelin' Shan'

"Far is not the issue. It is the time. Shan can be away for one moon cycle, but more than half and she gets tired and very grumpy. Did you have a place in mind or did you just want to wander?" She stood and stretched again, her form rippling slightly as a misty breeze passed through the clearing.

Shaninaa was really suspecting that this birdfolk might want to sell her to someone, because she heard that had happened before. One of her cousins was forced to work in the wheelwell of a paddleboat, and she was very wary. She tried not to let it show, but she was not well versed in deception, as it was not her way.

Chagera 11-21-2009 06:53 PM

Nrya shrugged "I had no set destination..." He said quietly "I'm just looking for a place to stay that I haven't stayed at in at least sixty years. " He leaned his head on his knees still. "It would just be nice to have someone to travel with...even if only for a Month. But we can cover a lot of ground in a month..." He said softly.

TeeJayeDee 11-23-2009 04:49 AM

Boredom claims another victim

"Shan supposes that would be all right. Which direction will we be going?" She hadn't totally let her guard down, but with him not having a particular location he wanted to 'show' her, let her half-believe that he did not have any ill intentions.

A mist gathered from all over and infused itself into her as she literally pulled herself together for the trip.

Chagera 11-24-2009 07:07 PM

((Sorry been sick lately))

"Mmmh West...I don't think I've been that way...but there's a desert...can you handle that?" He asked "You won't...evaporate will you?"
Nyra smiled a bit and stretched his legs a little now "I think there's a little town on the other side of it though...and a whole other country...Since I've only ever been here...it can't hurt to check it out right?" He asked.
The Bird man stood up slowly now and dusted himself off a bit, stretching his arms over his head as he awaited Sheena's input.
