She looked over at them, concerned. Then looked back at him. "Then I am sorry for them... but I can not be caught by the Nezeran Forces. It will mean the end of the War, but not in a good way. Please, you HAVE to get me out of here." Her whisper was fast, as if she was expecting trouble any minute now.

Across camp, a guard on patrol popped his flask and began to drink. He didn't notice the pile of sand slowly moving over the hill. He recorked his flask, then continued his route.

MintyRey 11-09-2009 11:35 PM

"Fine." said Shrike. He quietly took out a small cloth wallet from his sleeve and took out a small key from it. This wallet contained copies of keys that he managed to make for various prison cells and chains from his days of being held captive. The Gur' Tyrus band may buy new weapons every month but they didn't bother changing much of their other equipment so Shrike had been using this key often. Soon the lock on the chain opened and he nimbly removed her chains. "We're taking a horse if that's fine with you....unless you're not headed back to Arana, then we'll have to take a camel." he whispered as he started grabbing some treasure and stuffing them into his sack.

Darkestofsouls 11-09-2009 11:48 PM

She glanced around, rubbing her ankle where it had beened chained. "I'll go as far as you are. I just have to get as far away from the Capital of Arana as possilble."

The guard stopped, sure he had heard something. As he started to turn, he felt something wrap around his leg. He vanished under the sand before he could so much as cry out.

MintyRey 11-10-2009 12:02 AM

"Camel it is." Shrike said as he grabbed a few small bags and flasks of liquid from the other nearby animals and headed for a camel with the least cargo on it. "Come on!" he quietly called to the woman and climbed on the camel's back. He then tapped Ruby on the head and pointed to a pair of horses that were beside 3 camels. Ruby flew towards the two resting horses and bit them in the leg. Then the dragon turned to the three camels and bit them all in turn. Soon the noise of the panicked animals woke the sleeping thieves. The animals started running around while the still drunken bandits clumsily tried to grab the reigns of the animals. Ruby flew back to it's master shoulder, chirping happily. [Not chirping like a bird though :)]

Darkestofsouls 11-10-2009 12:07 AM

The girl smiled, "Ah, how cute!" Suddenly, three Bandit's near the corals were sucked into the sand, vanishing in an instant. Four men, their faces covered by wraps, burst out from the sand. Each clutched a Simitar in one hand an a flaming wine bottle in the other. In unison, they threw the bottles into the camp, then charged towards where the prisoners were being kept.

"NEZERUS SAND-SCORPIAN TROOPS!" The Girl yelled in surprise, then turned to Shrike. "We Have To Go, NOW!"

MintyRey 11-10-2009 12:33 AM

Shrike grabbed the princess' arm, helping her to get on and kicked the camel's sides hard. The camel, startled by the fire and the pain took off into the desert with the boy, the princess, and the dragon holding on for dear life. The fiery camp soon disappeared from view. The camel didn't stop running until noon the next day. Lucky for the travellers, Shrike managed to grab two flasks that were actually filled with water, the rest were filled with wine. Unfortunately, the poor camel was now exhausted and could only walk slowly. The two had to continue on foot.
"Who were those guys?" Shrike asked the woman he had saved as he led the tired camel.

[lol, poor camel :XD]

Darkestofsouls 11-10-2009 12:41 AM

"Nezerus Sand-Scorpian Troops. They have been secretly attacking Aranan forces along the border. They only attack at night, using the shifting desert background as camo. They dig through the sand, then strike from below. Luckily, there were only three of them. They have hit Aranan Patrols in groups as large as thirty men." She turned to him. "Thank you. If you hadn't gotten me out of there, I would be in Irata ((the capital of Nezerus)) by now, and the Provinces of Souel and Talendar would be lost. Thank you." She stopped, bowing to him.

((Wonder where Fallon and black rain went? o_o))

"Of course, I'll find you later after I'm done here." Eramthgin said happily, waving Lyle off before returning to his work. This seems like it's going to be fun, people to kill and collect, while traveling and possibly partake in adventures. None if this ever happened back when he was in that cave...comfy, but a bit too peaceful after so many years.

He tossed another skull into the bag before noticing it was full. "Again?" He muttered, and knotted the bag with a string. He murmured a small spell and the space before him cracked a little, revealing a small hole the size of a wheel barrel and chucking the bag in. Most magic users have a little portable dimensional storage space, which is convenient because magic users usually aren't as physically strong as melee fighters and cannot carry too much. Depending on how powerful the mage is, the size of the storage room varies. Eramthgin's was roughly the size of a small room, about five feet in diameter. It was filled with various random objects, mostly body parts, some food, clothes, and money. The money was only there as a safe-keeping, since he wasn't sure if the same currency was being used anymore or not after so many years. There were some jewels too, for trading if the money doesn't work.

Closing the portal up again, he moved on to the next body, humming a small tune to himself and wondering where the next battlefield would be.

MintyRey 11-10-2009 05:48 PM

Shrike blushed at the gesture.
"H-hey...it was nothing lady." the boy said as he rubbed the back of his head. "So, um.." he began. Looking around at where they were and at the position of the sun, Shrike estimated that they may have gone north west from the oasis. "I think we're probably near the Souel-Talendar-Arana triborder. I'm going west, where will you be going?"
Ruby kept watch over the strange new companion. The dragon thought she smelled strange and stuck out it's head towards the woman as much as it could to get a better whiff.

Darkestofsouls 11-10-2009 07:11 PM

((No idea, Fading D: sent Fallon a PM asking if she is still going to stay with us, and black rain just hasn't been on for a while.))

She looked up, then glanced around. "As far from Arana and Nezerus as I can, but still somewhere safe. Souel's capital, maybe." She glanced nervously over her shoulder, then back at him. "Where will you go?"

MintyRey 11-10-2009 07:30 PM

[Hey Darkest, I don't remember what Princess Judith looked like . Could you tell me where i can find her pic? You removed her profile from the front page. :)]

"I'm headed towards Gobi. It's a village near the Talendar-Souel border a little further west from here. It'll take about 3 days to get there if we had a ride but..." he said as he looked at the tired camel, "it'll take us 5 by foot." He pushed his pet dragon backwards slightly as it was about to bite an accessory on the woman's dress. Ruby scrambled up to Shrike's head and moped a little.

Darkestofsouls 11-10-2009 08:12 PM

((I took it down because I lost it  I accedently replaced it with Lyle's, and then couldn't find the URL it was at (and I forgot to save it to my computer). I will try to find it again, or failing that, find a new one for her.))

"Perhaps, you wouldn't mind if I traveled with you a while? I don't really know that much about the desert. It was either the desert or into Nezerus." She looked at him pleadingly, clasping her hands together.

Antagonist 11-11-2009 03:17 AM

((I hope they're still here ^^;;
Wondering if I should wander over towards Souel...hmm))

Dusting his hands off and stretching himself from his cramped position, Eramthgin thought it was a pretty good haul. Seven bodies, all pretty much perfect except a graze or two here and there, and he found a nice horse too. Well, a dead horse, but that hardly mattered to him. Good, young, and healthy horse corpses were hard to come by, since most of the time if they're dead, it's usually from a brutal wound, disease, or old age. Not very suited for a steed. The particular horse he found was a young one, around four years old, killed by a sword through the gut, luckily missing the spine.

While he would have to get rid of the flesh due to him forgetting how to make zombie dolls (damn himself for forgetting to bring along his Corpse Preparation books!), the horse could still be a nice steed...if he can find a saddle to place on the bones. Normal raised zombies would continue to decompose and who would want to ride on a horse that's dropping pieces of decaying flesh while it's walking? Zombie dolls however, are preserved and can last much longer without falling apart. Kind of like stuffing rag dolls with cotton, but with specially processed flesh instead. He would probably have to take a trip back to his cave unless he wanted to be stuck with dead rotting horses or bony rides for the rest of his travels.

It was only then that he remembered he had forgotten to ask when he should meet up with the mercenary guy. Not that he couldn't find him, as he had his magical signature placed on him to trace him, but still. He probably wouldn't mind him running off for a short while, would he? It would take around a week or two to get back to his cave, and double the time to return here again. There was the option of making a zombie go back to his cave for him...but he had a feeling that the walking dead weren't exactly any more welcome than they were hundreds of years ago. How frustrating.

Eramthgin looked around battlefield. There were still many bodies lying about. Mostly Nez soldiers, since the people of Vex cleared away the bodies of their own first. Should be okay then...he breathed out lightly and touched an ornament ring on his left middle finger, and whispered, "Baphi."

A large summoning circle appeared on the ground, bringing up a gust of wind as a large creature**, thrice the height of a man and twice as wide, appeared. It had a bird-like head and large wings, with sharp ridges going down the spine.
"How many times have I told you not to call me 'Baphi'?!" It roared, flicking its long barbed tail in irritation. "My name is BAPHOMET! BA-PHO-MET!"
"Aw, c'mon, you know I can't remember long names, and yours is long." Eramthgin said, grinning at the Wyvern. It was a while since he last summoned his Contract creature, and it seemed that Baphi is as irritable as always.
"Long?! Long, my foot! It's only three stupid syllables, you imbecile of a Drow!" Baphomet screeched, stamping the ground and raising a cloud of dust. He huffed and for a few moments before lowering his head to match Eramthgin's height. "So what now? Need another delivery done or something?"

Contract creatures are creatures that have made a deal with another. Some of them can be summoned through means of magic spells or an artifact, while others must be summoned 'manually', as in sending someone to inform the creature to come by. Similar to mercenaries, though with rougher details and usually a lot of violence, Contracts were more unstable and harder to control, as they do not view themselves as a subservient belonging to their Contract host. If annoyed to a certain point, they will also turn on their host and destroy him/her, along with the Contract. Of course, this would hurt them as well, so it's not often seen, but it doesn't mean the Contract creature couldn't rough up their host a bit.

The Contract host also cannot break apart the Contract without suffering consequences, such as having their magic backfire or losing their strength, etc. The length of the Contract varies depending on how long the two agreed with during the bonding. The Contract creature is usually paid with something they want from the host, either jewelry for creatures with a shiny fetish, or food, or even one's soul. The Contract host in return can ask the creature for favors, such as killing an enemy, fighting by their side, or serve as their steed.

Baphomet never really understood his host. His host was random, always in his own little world, and the only times he called for him through the Contract was to make deliveries like carrying letters to some person in another region. He was a Wyvern, by gods! Wyverns are fighters, not some stupid messenger boy! He sometimes wondered why he even made a Contract with such an insufferable host in the first place. But alas, what was done was done. Might as well get this over with.
"Ah, yeah, sort of." Eramthgin scratched his head and wondered vaguely if Baphi would be able to fit into his cave.

"You know my cave right? Well, I can't get back there right now and I need some books to refresh my memories on some things...could you go back there and ask Them to give you the three copies of 'Corpse Preparation' on my shelf and bring them back to me? You can have as many of these bodies lying around as payment. They're still pretty fresh, only dead about a couple of hours ago."
Baphomet considered the deal. It was pretty nice, and it was a while since he had a nice meal...

"Fine," He growled, "You have a deal. Just don't come whining to me if I bring the wrong book, you know I don't read humanoid text." With that, he stalked over to the bodies, ignoring the humans staring at him with their mouths agape, and started feasting.
((**Not really as large as in the image.))

((And sorry for the huge wall of text. @[email protected];;))

Earth Maiden Fallon 11-11-2009 10:47 PM

((Sorry guys!!! DX I've been so busy with school and stuff, I haven't had a chance to catch up on Mene. :( I can't wait to see how busy I'll get over Thanksgiving and Christmas. :rawrmayor: Looks like it's going great though! :D Now I'm just going to summerize what happened kind of and what Fallon did. :P))

"Finally" Fallon sighed as the Nezerans retreated. She didn't mind the fighting so much, but she kept seeing faces of old friends and people she once knew. A few of the mercenaries were looking at her suspiciously. Maybe they had notice that she wasn't exactly killing in her fights. It's not like she hadn't started with the intention to, it's just once she saw their faces, all she could do was knock the soliders out. Of course, most of them got trampled by the end of the fight anyway. She didn't want to be under all of the incriminating looks she was getting, so she decided to walk to a deserted part of the battle field. Well, deserted of living things anyway. She stepped over and around dead bodies that lay motionless on the ground. Things were quiet over here. Quiet and still.

Fallon made her way over to the bottom of a cliff and sat in the cool shadows underneath. She began thinking about her old life. Before Prince Taarn ruled. Memories of her family flashed past her closed eyes. Her mother and father holding her close; laughing with happiness. A tear fell down her cheek. She then heard some talking near by. She leaned her head back and inhaled deeply. She saw two walk past. One, an interesting person; perhaps a drow? The other was Lyle. They were talking as the drow seemed to look at the ground for something. Apparently he found what he was looking for, because he then proceeded to crouch down. He removed a dagger from his belt and began slicing the skin off of a Nez solider. Fallon cringed a little at first, but then continued to watch. She couldn't hear what they were saying, but her perfect eye sight allowed her to watch the gruesome details of the skinning. Why was he doing it? Once he finished with one body, he moved to another. This time, she had to cover her mouth to prevent a cry from escaping. She recognized this body. It was a young man. A young man she once knew as a child. Nathan was his name. She closed her eyes as the drow readied his knife. 'Why am I doing this?' she though to herself. 'I'm not supposed to be a mercenary. I can't do this anymore.' She thought as she sat their and silently cried. She waited until the drow and Lyle moved out of sight, and then she made her escape...

((I hope I got the details ok. :P))

Darkestofsouls 11-11-2009 11:12 PM

((Welcome back. We missed you :) . New image for young Princess Judith now up. Just picture her a little older))

Lyle finished walking the battlefield, then noticed he couldn't find that girl. Her eyes, had it really been pain?

He searched the field for a while, then went back to Era. "Hey, did you find a girl with Red Hair among the dead?" He didn't remember her going down, but he couldn't keep track of everyone. "She was one of the mercs who followed me down, if that helps."

MintyRey 11-12-2009 04:08 AM

"Sure. Name's Shrike by the way. What's yours?" replied the boy.

[Sorry about the one-liner but I got nothing else at the moment  ]

Darkestofsouls 11-12-2009 04:09 AM

((NP, I understand. Sometimes, dialog has to slow down to a quick one to one))

She looked a little nervous, glanced around, the whispered. "It's Arana.... Judith Arana."

MintyRey 11-12-2009 04:24 AM

A look of surprise appeared on Shrike's face.
"You're kidding right? THE Princess Judith Arana?" he asked in disbelief. He looked at her clothes, then at her face. It was true this woman wore clothes that only the rich could afford but he had never seen the princess of Arana nor any royalty from outside of Talendar before. Well, not any that he knew of. He had only heard stories, and although she fit the descriptions of the princess, what would she be doing out here? He then remembered what Mihalik had told him. Someone from Nezerus was looking for her and it would be dangerous if he was caught with her. Then again, she did need help and didn't know anything about the desert. Shrike scratched his head in frustration, not knowing what to believe or do next.

Darkestofsouls 11-12-2009 04:29 AM

She shook her head furiously. "No, I am serious. I know I don't look exactly like a Princess, but I didn't have a lot of time when I was forced to flee the Palace. My father's Vizer was secretly working for Nezerus. He tried to get me to marry Prince Taarn, so that he could use Arana to take over Talendar and Souel." She moved forward quickly, taking his hand. "Please, I beg you, you have to get me as far from Arana as you can." She released his hand. "I understand if you can't take me all the way to Sarnes, but if you can at least get me out of this desert, I will be forever in your debt." She looked at him, desperation in her eyes.

MintyRey 11-12-2009 04:57 AM

"Uhh, alright." he said, still a little doubtful and slightly confused about his decision. But if Nezerus forces were crawling around Talendar then it would be best to leave the desert for a while. "We have to pass by Gobi first to get some supplies, then..I guess we could cross to Souel from there. Is that alright with you?"

Darkestofsouls 11-12-2009 05:15 AM

She sighed with relief, nodding her head "Yes, that's fine, thank you." She bowed deeply to him again, then stood and pulled the hood of her cloak back up. "The bandits they attack should distract them long enough to put some distance between here and there. I will follow your lead."

MintyRey 11-12-2009 05:31 AM

The boy, the princess, the dragon and the camel journeyed through the scorching heat of Talendar's desert for the next 4 days. They rode the camel after it had regained its strength and rationed the water as best as they could. On the fourth day, they stopped by the last oasis of the eastern desert and the closest one to the village. The group drank as much as they could, happy to have finally gotten some water. They ran out of water the day before and couldn't drink the wine as it didn't taste very good.
"Looks like we'll be there by tonight thanks to this camel." Shrike said to Judith as he patted the back of the camel that lay behind him. "So you should know, I don't know much about Souel. I've never been outside of Talendar."

Darkestofsouls 11-12-2009 05:51 AM

She nodded. For royalty, she hadn't complained once in a situation where most normal people would have. She was, however, unusually silent. Whenever Shrike wasn't talking to her, she would always look into the distance, as if someone stood just beyond the horizen.

"That is fine. I really can not thank you enough for what you have done for me."

MintyRey 11-12-2009 06:05 AM

[Sorry for hurrying us along, I just can't wait to get to where other people are  If you'd like me to slow down a little please tell me :) I'm not going to rush us all the way to Sarnes though, we'll be stopping at Souel.]

"Please, enough with the thanks lady. I'm sure anyone would've helped a person in need." the boy replied as he watched Ruby swim around in the small oasis. 'Anyone outside of Talendar that is' he thought to himself.
That night they reached the small village of Gobi. Everyone seemed asleep but Shrike walked up to a small building and banged on the door.
"Open up Henry, I need a place to stay!" he yelled. Soon lights came on and a man with a goatee and short yellow hair stepped out.
"Oh, it's you.." he said sleepily, "Come on in."
Shrike tied the camel's reigns to the post by the door and went inside. The man gestured for the two to go up the stairs as he closed the door behind them. "Take whatever room," he said with a yawn, "just don't wake the wife."

Antagonist 11-12-2009 06:50 AM

((Yay Fallon! You're back! And sorry about dissecting your childhood friend o_o;))

((No problem, I'd like to get together too XD))

Eramthgin blinked and turned his eyes away from the eating Wyvern, to Lyle.

"Oh, back already? ...And red hair?" He scratched his head. "Nope, I don't think so. Saw a few redheads, but they were males...and badly damaged..." He muttered the last part, turned and hollered at Baphomet. "Hey Baphi! Did you see or eat a female with red hair?"
"It's BAPHOMET!" The Wyvern roared back. "And no, I haven't seen a female humanoid with red hair. Or I would've eaten her at first sight. Males are so tough to chew on..." He grumbled and continued eating, ignoring Eramthgin.
Eramthgin shrugged and turned back to Lyle. "...Nope, don't know where she is. Maybe she's still wandering around somewhere or chasing after the running Nezzies?"
