"My bonnie lies over the ocean, my bonnie lies over the sea... My bonnie lies over the ocean, please bring back my bonnie to me..."

Bobbie Shaftoe was singing to himself, as he did such mornings, helping his father gather the last of the produce they'd be selling at market that day. They didn't live far from the market, but also lived on the edge of a wide, green meadow. Usually, when he was done working for the day, or had nothing to do, Bobbie found himself sitting down near a small river that ran through the meadow, singing his same tune, and leaning back against a large willow tree. The auburn haired boy also would watch the sheep that wandered the meadow, and the boy that tended to them, too.

While he was fine and fair to all the girls he encountered, Bobbie, with a chisled, yet soft face, deep blue eyes, and a tall, sturdy body structure, was more preoccupied with the same sex. A few of the girls that attended his same school would giggle and goggle as he passed by them, talking and chirping amongst one another how he would be the one to marry them. Oh, he dreaded it, and rolled his eyes once well past them, sighing to himself and just keeping his daydreams going.

He finished stacking the last of the barrels of vegetables to his father's truck, and before he could get suckered into going to market, started off toward his room, grabbing a leather-bound sketchbook before heading out to the meadow, hair wisping lightly in the wind. That day, the youth wore a pair of dark brown, corduroy pants, and a cream-colored, button-up shirt. Finding his usual tree, and smirking, he started over, before encountering a small surpise.

Bobbie heard a little, weak baaing coming from around his spot, and discovered the poor thing, hurt and laying down. He gently picked up the animal, and remembering that the boy he used to watch just lived over the hill, started the trek, hoping that the shepard boy would be of more help than himself.

((I'm not very good at writing a lot but I will try my hardest! ))

A young shepard boy, Haku Smith, worriedly looked around. He was a little scared that he lost one of his sheep. The sheep were all he had in life except for his father but Haku really didn't like him. His father was a drunk and sometimes forgot he had a son.

Haku was small for his age. he had short black hair that went down a little past his small shoulders. He had light blue hair despite his dark hair. He looked about fourteen while he was really sixteen. His raggy shirt hung loosely around his shoulders.

"Sheepy? Where did you go baby sheepy?" he called as he looked around. He frowned when he didn't see it. His head shot up when he heard the sheep. He ran towards it then saw Bobbie. "You found him! Thank god. It's hurt though...."

"Ay, I did so. 'was hoping t-to find, you.." Carefully giving the other the sweet lamb, Bobbie offered a light smile, almost blushing. The other was so adorable, and tilting his head some, rested his hands on his hips. "Will you be alright, or do you need help with the small baby?" he asked out, nodding towards the small animal. Although he didn't really know much about tending herds, he could at least help.

However, he heard a familiar voice, and sighed a bit upon seeing his father standing at a short distance away, calling out to him. "Oh, well.." Bobbie stammered, but giving a light smile, waved, running off toward the older male; he didn't want to get in trouble today. "I'll see you around, I guess..!"

Haku wanted him to stay but just nodded. No body had ever talked to him before. He looked down as he held the small sheep. He was worried about the small animal. He walked over to his bag he had put down when he started looking and gathered some herbs. He smashed some up than gently spread it on the animal's cuts and scraps.

He put the small sheep down then smiled as he got up and walked to his mother. "There we go. Happy family together again." he said then just watched the sheep as the day went on.

The rest of his day at the market was way too busy for him. There seemed to be a lot of people that particular day, and for some reason their booth was very popular. He ran around like a chicken with his head cut off, getting things, taking money, trading, bartering, and doing virtually everything else. His father helped, some. However, as they started back home, the boy laid back, looking out at the passing scenery.

That night, as he did most nights too, Bobbie started from his room, hopping out the window. As he made the walk down the way, right to his comfortable spot, the auburn-haired boy finally sat, breathing in the cool, night air. The stars and moon shone brightly, and reflected off of the surface of the small stream. He wanted to sketch, but just sat, absorbing it all.

Haku sighed when the sun was starting to go down. Today turned out to be like all the others. He smiled remembering seeing the boy. He really like the way the boy looked and wanted to be friends maybe even more.

He looked up at the sheep he had brought to him earlier and smiled seeing that it was okay. He named the sheep zippy because it disappeared on him without him seeing. He smiled more when zippy got closer. He happy mood dropped when he saw Zippy drastically change directions and run.

"AH! No! Zippy come back!!!!" He yelled as he chased after the small sheep. "How can you run this fast with those injuries!?" He followed the sheep as best as he could struggling a lot more than he should have. He was too hungry to be running. Zippy continued to run in the direction of Bobbie. Zippy stopped when he was near Bobbie but not too close. "Zippy?! Where did you go now?"

Just as Bobbie had settled down on the tree, he opened his eyes for a moment, remembering the bread and butter he packed earlier. The boy went to remove the bread, but heard a slight baaing from afar. Turning his head some, a little perplexed, he noticed the same, little lamb from before; he definitely was a little trouble maker. But, Bobbie also heard the voice from before, too, and holding out a small piece of bread (hoping it would work) he called out to the small sheep, cooing out, "Hey little one, won't you come over here..?"

And, it worked. The small sheep started to trot over, and Bobbie easily grabbed it up, holding it close to him. The Little Boy Blue must be sleeping... he thought to himself, although he now saw his figure appearing. "You have a little troublemaker on your hands," the redhead joked out some, a soft smile forming on his face.

Haku panted softly as he moved closer. "Oh. You have Zippy....thank god....he took off again..." he said as he laughed a little then stood next to him. He took the sheep then sighed. "You can't run off like that little one...." Haku noticed Zippy munching on something. He looked up at Bobbie then back at the sheep. "Did you give Zippy something?"

"What are you doing?!" his father yelled as he walked to them. "Lets go! You don't just leave the sheep like that alone! A wolf could get them!"

Haku flinched a little as his father grabbed the collar of his shirt then started walking. "Thank you for the help!" he yelled to Bobbie before he was dragged away.

"Ah... Umm... B-Bye!" Bobbie flinched himself when the male came, and only caught a moment of his bitter glance. It wasn't entirely Haku's fault; that lamb was a terror! The blonde looked down to his toes for a moment, glancing back up and watching as they disappeared back over the hill. He sort of was feeling adventurous, and quickly tucking the bread and butter back into his bag, started to follow, keeping a careful distance.

He soon arrived, and moved behind a large bail of hay, watching to see when the boy would be alone. Then, he'd probably try to befriend him.

By the time Haku was pulled to the house he had a few scratches for being dragged. "You stupid boy! Go get the fucken sheep and put them away! You're a horrible son! I wish you weren't mine!" Haku knew he was drunk. He could smell it on his breath

"Sorry....I'll take care of them. How about you go inside and relax?" Haku said hoping he'd just go away. He'd probably have to sleep with the sheep if this kept up. Haku wasn't expecting the hand that slamed into his cheek so he was knocked to the ground.

"Don't tell me what to do!? You stay out here! Don't come in my house!!!" He yelled before turning around and leaving.

Haku was too shocked to move. He was hit before but not for no reason like that. He whimpered softly as he sniffled. "Ow..." was the only words out of his mouth. He slowly stood up then walked to the sheep. He got them all in success fully, even Zippy. He sat in some hay that was near there then rubbed his cheek. His father managed to cut his cheek.

"I didn't deserve that...." he whispered as silent tears slid down his cheeks. He pulled his legs up to his chest then whimpered when his stomach growled angerly. He was so hungery. For a while now his father had been getting drunk and wouldn't let him eat. He'd say it was his fault for his mothers death when it wasn't.

Bobbie watched for the moment, leaning farther and farther forward with the exchange between them. His heart ached, and he almost felt like he was in on the spat too. But, when Haku was hit, he flinched, groaning to himself and watching the other, instantly walking out form behind the bail as the man went back inside.

"Hey, are you, alright..?" Of course, the poor thing probably wasn't, and at closer inspection he could see the cut slightly bleeding, but figured it was good enough. Bobbie carefully ripped a strip of cloth from the bottom of his shirt, cleaning of his face and cheek. "Please, don't cry..." The blonde carefully pulled out his bread, offering some to the other.

Haku almost screamed when Bobbie come out but he held it in. He knew if he screamed his father might come back and he really didn't wanna be hit like that. He sniffled as he let him clean his face. He didn't mind the kindness but he didn't really understand why he was here or why he was helping him. He didn't wanna ask buut he couldn't help it. He needed to know if he could trust him or if he had to be careful.

"What are you doing here?" he asked wanting to take the bread but he'd feel too bad if he did. "You don't have to give me any. That must be your dinner and I can't take it from you...." He tried to stop his tears but he couldn't. "I'm sorry..."

"Hey, hey... I-It's alright, really. I ate at home.." And, he did. Plus, Haku looked like he needed it way more than him. Carefully looking down for a moment Bobbie ducked his head some, letting out, "I'm sorry I followed you.. I-I just, always wanted to... Talk to you. So, I followed you here, and now I'm kinda glad I did..." He shook his head some, and tried to dab at the rest of his tears, finally going to find a light hankerchief from his bag; he had most of everything he would need in it, and was happy to have brought it along.

"Is he, always like that?" Now, while Bobbie's own father enjoyed scotch, and sometimes got a little out of hand, he wasn't nearly that much of a drunk. The blonde bit his lip, hoping to at least somewhat console the other. "Don't worry.. I just, want to make sure you're okay..."

Haku couldn't resist it. He quickly took it then ate it in record time. He didn't really even taste it. He blushed a little when his stomach growled. "Uh...Thanks for the food....um...He's not always like this..." Haku looked down as he tried not to start crying again. "W-when my mom was alive he was really nice..."

He smiled weakly at the thought of her. "She was really nice...she always let me eat when I was hungry...she died recently...and my dad is taking it hard I guess. I wish he wouldn't be mean...I'm sorry you had to see that..."

Bobbie just ducked his head some, and gave a small pout; that was too bad. "Ah, well.. I'm sorry about your mom, and all.." he started, before shaking his head some. "And, you don't need to be sorry, because it's not your fault.." He offered a bit of a smile, and chuckling some, gently patted Haku's back.

"But seriously, if you ever need anything, I'm right up the meadow. Just come by anytime, okay?" His eyes were glinting softly in the moonlight, and he gazed softly into the other's. He sighed a bit, and nodded lightly, saying softly, "I, should get going. Have a better night.. And, don't forget what I said, please?"

Haku looked at his sheep then looked up at him. He looked down as he sniffled. "I don't wanna be here anymore..." he said softly then looked up. "C-can I come to your house? Can I have some more food. I'm really hungry..." He looked at him with tears in his eyes. He really didn't want to be alone anymore.

He looked down then moved away. He couldn't take getting rejected. "Never mind...Sorry...I shouldn't have asked...." He got up then went to walk away.

Bobbie was starting off, and just faintly heard what Haku was saying. Almost immediately, the boy turned back around, walking up to him and lightly taking his shoulders. "W-What? Oh, of course you should have.. Please, follow me. We have more than enough food to share with you.." Now, while it was late and all, the blonde figured he could stay in his room, and just be willing to hide for now. "Just, come. I want to help you..." I want to be your friend...

He started to walk down the meadow with the other, and pushing his bag back behind him looked out to the stream. "The moon's reflection is really nice.." he started, and absently brushed his hand against the other's as he pointed out to the scene.

Haku sniffled as he nodded softly. "Yeah..." he said quietly then moved closer to Bobbie. He didn't want to get lost or him to lose him. He was so happy to have someone that actually cared about him and didn't wanna use him for something. "Thank you," he said as he started crying again. "I'm sorry...I can't I can't stop crying....I'm just so happy. THank you for helping me...no..no body ever cared to help a poor person like me..." He wiped at his tears trying to get them to stop.

Well, that little boy was surely 'blue.' Bobbie just offered a smile, and wrapped a strong arm around his shoulders, hoping that they would still keep close by. They were approaching his home, and seeing the candle on in his room, looked around, holding a finger to his lips. "Follow me, but keep quiet.." he murmured, and started up the small ladder, opening his window and letting Haku in before him, after seeing if the room was clear. His father left supper, by the candle, and a glass of water. "You can have that... I'm not hungry..."

Haku sniffled as he looked around the room. "You have a big room compared to mine..." he said softly not wanting to alert anyone. He looked down then looked at the food. It smelled really nice. "But I can't take your food," he said as he looked back down. "I feel bad about having the bread...." He wiped away the remaining tears as he looked back up. "How can you not be hungry?"

"I've eaten a lot before I went out tonight.." he mentioned, smiling and pulling out the small desk chair for the boy. "Please. Be my guest... We grow and raise a lot of everything we eat, so needless to say I'm never really hungry." It was a bowl of lamb stew, full of fresh vegetables left from the day's market, and lamb. He sat down on his bed, and although it was a bit roomy for him alone, wondered how two could fit in it. "It's really good soup.. Pop makes great soup.."

Haku sat down then slowly started eating. He started crying as he ate. "I-It's so good," he said as he looked up. "It's the best think i've ever eaten ever in my life." He looked back down then went back to eating. He finished the food in only minutes. He put the bowl on the desk then looked around some more.

He stood up then yawned softly. "I'm really tired....where can I sleep?" he asked as he rubbed his eyes a little. He moved closer to the bed then sleepily looked at Bobbie.

Bobbie blushed, a little sad for the other. He rubbed the back of his neck absently as he sat on the edge of his bed, watching as the youth ate. "W-Well, hopefully you can come by more, often..." Did I just say that..? Oh geez.. His fair complexion just got redder, and after stifling a nervous cough, stood up for a moment, to fetch a night shirt for himself as well as the little boy, Haku.

As Haku stood, he handed the oversized nightshirt to him, looking back to his bed. "How about my, bed? There s-should be enough room for two.." His color went back to normal, and after taking off his shirt from the day, sat it aside his dresser, slipping on the nightshirt and pulling off his trousers. He started by the bed as well, and slipped in, hoping that the other wouldn't be uncomfortable.

Haku smiled then nodded as he changed into the shirt. He climbed into bed and smiled. "This bed is so soft." he said softly then laid his head down on the pillows. "It's feels so nice..." He yawned as his eyes slowly started closing. "You're so nice and so cute....when you blush..." he said softly before he dirfted off. He smiled softly in his sleep and it didn't disappear. His body curled a bit into a ball.
