Amelia was a little surprised by the request, but she thought a moment about what to answer, "Well, as I'm sure you've read in my file: I am twenty-three years old, nearly twenty-four. My birthday is in a month. I am a United States citizen, though I was born in Europe, in Belgium, to be exact. I have lived in the US most my life and worked as a scientist at NASA before the USF, and with the USF its self afterward, mostly as a scientific consultant. While working with them I trained as a space explorer and worked my way up, and I apparently to making it quite clear my capabilities lie in being a first officer, though I am not sure how or why they saw that. This will be my first time aboard a launch and in all honesty, I'm nervous as hell, ma'am." she smiled a little, unsure, "Is there anything else you would like to know?" she asked.

Jillian nodded as they walked. "In all honesty, I haven't gone over the files. I was sent them late last night, and I've hardly but looked at them. In fact," She grinned again, "That's what I was doing on the bridge when you came in." She looked forward again. "Your first time on a space launch, eh? Well, they're nicer then ground launches, in their own way. I won't lie, even I was nervous my first launch. Heck, my second, too. It gets easier, the more you get into the routine..." She looked up and down the hall, then stopped and looked at Amelia. "Actually, I'm really nervous about this launch as well. I've never been captain of a ship, space or otherwise. I've led some launch and landing missions from Mars, but nothing like this. I'm terrified of this ship, and for it. We, humanity, is stepping into a ballpark we've only dreamed up, but we're our best chance to get the that park in before we've had a few practice swings." She looked at the large number 7 on the nearby wall, to mark the deck. "And I'm not sure that I was the right pick for this. I understand they wanted a younger Captain for this mission, but there are older, wiser mission leaders who should have been standing here instead." She looked at Amelia, looking weary.

Amelia listened, appreciating the Captain's reassuring and kind words, and the revealing ones as well. It was nice that she wasn't the only one nervous, and that she wasn't the only one new to their position. When it came to the part where the other's reservations about being the right one for the job came, Amelia had to disagree, "I think you were the right person. I think that you'll be a great captain. They obviously saw something in you that you haven't seen yet. It sort of shows in your personality, actually." she responded. It wasn't just reassuring her, it was Amelia's genuine feelings on the subject.

She looked at her for a long moment, then slowly her eyes got the strenght they had held when they first met, and she nodded. "Thank you. I hope that I find it before I need it, not after." Then she smiled, "But here I am, going on, and we're still not back on the bridge. I sure hope I don't bore the crew to tears during this mission. I'll have a mutiny on my hands." She let out a light, short laugh, then turned, putting her hands behind her back, and headed for the bridge again.

"Sometimes you don't know it till you need it. Adrenaline and such." she reassured the first bit the Captain had said, with a smile, even though the other woman had seemingly moved past the subject already. Amelia smiled a little at what Jillian had said as they walked back towards the bridge, finally following the path to their destination. "Well that's why I'm here, isn't it? Nothing screams 'Attempt mutiny and see what happens, I dare you.' like two headstrong women, correct?" she said, giving a small laugh at her own joke.

Jillian threw back her head and laughed. "Oh, that's too true. I suppose I've nothing to worry about now." She looked back with a huge grin. "I think this is going to be a heck of a voyage, and I'm glad you were assigned its First Officer." She walked into the Bridge, and sat in the Captain's Chair, the back-middle of the three chairs in the command area. She pressed a button, and a small computer screen attached to the chair flipped out. She pulled a almost completely flat keyboard from its bottom, and began to type on it.

Amelia laughed again. She was glad the captain had appreciated her sense of humor. "Thank you, ma'am" she replied with a smile at the fact the captain was glad she was there. She followed her into the bridge and to the command deck. She wasn't sure what to do, "Uhm, I hate to sound like a fool, but where is my place, exactly?" she asked nervously.

Jillian looked up, and smiled. "Oh, right, well, um..." She glanced at the chair to her right and left, the two other chairs in the commad area. "Which would you like, this chair or that one? I think you're supposed to sit in the one to the Captain's right, but you can have either." She smiled, and added "though don't go switching between then, you'll really confuse me." She grinned at her little joke, then watched to see which chair she would take.

Amelia laughed at the Captain's joke. She then looked between the chairs and in a split second started walking the the chair on her right. Amelia was partial to the left one, but she was also a believer in tradition, which was her ruling argument. "I'll try not to switch, just don't make me angry." she winked, hoping her joke would be appreciated.

Jillian let out a short laugh, then smiled at her. "I'll be careful." She began to type again, pulling up the list of crewmemebers and their files that she had been browsing before Amelia got there. "So, any questions? You must have some, being your first space assignment." She looked up at her, ready to help.

Amelia sat in her chair, looking over the captain's shoulder as she typed. When asked if she had questions, a million rushed through her head at once and she couldn't completely straighten them out into comprehensible language. The one that made sense to ask, "Well, as your First Officer, what is it you will be expecting me to take care of?" she asked.

She smiled. "I suppose it would be good for you to know what you're doing. Well, normally, you're my second in command. If I am otherwise incapacitated or unable to do my duty, you would become the Captain until I was able to retake my post. Also, you'll lead the away missions in most cases. That is to say you'll be in charge of exploring any planets we find that we can, you know, explore." She leaned back. "On top of that, you'll more then likely be the first one I go to for a second opinion, and the crew will go to if they have any complaints about me as Captain, but wish to remain free of my scorn."

Amelia nodded. She had known most of that, but she had had no idea she would be the leader of the missions outside The Legacy. She smiled a little, unable to contain it, "That sounds amazing- the exploring part, I mean." she explained, then went on, "I didn't know second in command was the one to leave the ship on those missions though. I thought the Captain went out and the second in command was the one to stay aboard the ship and keep an eye on things." she said, looking at the Captain. "The rest I knew of, or at least had the idea, but thank you for explaining it to me."

She smiled and nodded. "Well, standard procedure is to let the First Officer lead the away teams, though as Captain I can request to lead instead, and I would love to at some point. But I'll want to get some weapons practice before that. Who knows what predators we might find, assuming we find life on other planets. Of course, when on a planet weapons fire is restricted to self defence under attack only. Top Brass doesn't want us starting a war with whatever passes for an Intergalactic community out there."

Amelia nodded, "Well, that all makes perfect sense." she agreed, "I was sure you would want to lead the outside exploration yourself also." she smiled, "Perhaps, we can take turns on it...?" she asked, hoping not to be cut out of the running all together. Of course, she would respectfully step aside and let the Captain take lead if need be. Disappointing as it may be.

She smiled. "Don't worry, Amelia, I'll let you have plenty of shots. In fact, I'll probably want to let you choose which ones you want to lead instead of the other way around." She looked up at the clock. "If you don't mind me pasing that choise to you."

Amelia was taken aback- by both being addressed by her first name on duty and the Captain's offer, not in a bad way though, "Well, thank you ma'am. I wouldn't mind that at all, thank you..." she said, finding she was repeating herself, "Why, might I ask, would you pass the choice on though?"

She smiled at her. "because I trust you won't give you Captain all the really bad ones, Commander." She laughed lightly. "Honestly, I love space. I've spent as much of my life I can up here. I'm more then happy to stay up here. I'll be happy to go down to a new, unknown world, but I don't need to be the first down. It's not like we're gonna ruin it as soon as we land." She leaned back in her chair. "I'm more then happy to give that honor to someone else."

Amelia smiled, and feeling the heat in her cheeks, she knew she was beginning to blush. IT was nice to hear she was trusted, "Thank you again, ma'am." she said, a little more quiet than normal. She wasn't sure why she was suddenly embarrassed- it was either the sudden casualness between the two, or the great honor she was being given.

Jillian leaned forward again. She was glad Amelia had turned up so early. Jillian had been afraid that she would be making this voyage alone. Not truely alone, she obviously had the crew, but she loved to talk to people. She was glad she had already made a friend. At least she felt like a friend. She smiled to herself as she opened the ship log and checked the time. Unfortunatly, she couldn't make entried in the log until the ship actually launched.

She closed the log and put away the computer panel, leaning back in her chair. It was comfortable, but not exactly a recliner or anything. She definatly would be falling asleep in it anytime soon. She turned it, as it was a swivel, to face Amelia, and looked her over again.

Amelia looked around the room as the Captain was finishing up on the computer. It was odd to have so much power in a ship so great as The Legacy. When she turned to look back at the Captain after being lost in her own thoughts, she noticed she was looking at her again, and facing her this time. "What is it?" she asked.

She folded her hands together, looking over her First Officer. "Was I a bit to forward, earlier? I hope you weren't put off by that." She looked a little nervous bringing it up. "I might have been a little out of place refering to you so casually, expecially while on duty."

"Oh, no!" Amelia shook her head adamantly when she found out what the Captain was talking about, "No, it's fine. It was a bit of a shock to me, I admit, but I didn't mind it or anything." she said. She wasn't just saying that because Jillian was the captain either, she truly didn't mind it much, other than the small shock it was at first.

She nodded, smiling. "Well, good, but don't be afraid to tell me when you think I might be stepping over a line. I know I'm going to need your help to get through this." She leaned back in her chair, looking over Ameilia quickly to judge her reaction, the turned her chair back towards the viewscreen.

Amelia smiled, slowly, "Alright, I will remember that then..." she replied, looking down a moment, "And same goes if I overstep also." she replied, smiling again, "I mean, I'm bound to at some point..."
