Alex started packing up her clothes. She got two suitcases, which she wanted to bring in the car with them. She started emptying all of her makeup from her drawers. |
He ran back upstairs, then knocked as he opened her door again. He held something behind his back as he walked over to her. "I picked this up when we were at the mall. I wanted to give it to you the night of the Prom, but since you'll be gone....." He looked down, then held out a small, light-green case. "This is for you."

Alex slowly took the box and tried not to cry, being unsuccessful, she opened the box and she smiled and hugged him tightly. "Kenshin...thank you so much..."

Kenshin smiled as she opened it, revealing the Jade Necklace inside. "I was going to give this to you on Prom night, but since you won't be here..." He hugged her back, resting his chin on her shoulder as he pulled her close. "Remember me when you wear it, ok?"

Alex sighed and hugged him, closing her eyes and embracing every waking moment while she still had it. "I'll wear it every day." she whispered. She kissed him deeply and sighed once again as she hugged him once more.

He smiled at her, then held her for as long as he could. Finally, he pulled away, and took it out of the box, which he had snagged gently from her while they hugged. He held it up to her in an offer to put it on for her.

Alex turned around, putting up her hair and setting her chin lower. She sighed and toyed with it after he put it on.

He slipped in on and fastened it in place, then went around her to see it on her. "We should help you get packed before your parents come up here and try to kick me out for being a distraction." He looked around at her bags. "I promise I'll call you every time I can, time difference be damned. I won't let a bunch of States keep us from talking." He sat down in a chair. "And once I finish school, I'll try for a college in Florida, so that I can see you while I am taking classes. We'll need to find out where in Florida you'll be staying."

"Yes, call me every second you can," Alex shook her head. "Don't move to Florida, I'll find some way to come back within a year, I promise." she said. She finished up packing and looked over at him. "Wanna help me carry these?"

He nodded, walking over and grabbing her bags. "If you need any help with money when trying to move back here, just let me know. I've got quite a bit saved up, and I'd be more then happy to use it for you, if need be." He made sure he had a firm grip on her bags, then waited for her to lead the way.

Alex smiled and shook her head. "I'll be fine, don't worry about me. I'll come back when you very least expect it. Everything will be okay," she said as she nodded. She grabbed two boxes and two bags and headed downstairs.

He nodded back, following her down, and setting the bags by the door when they got down. "You'll call me when you get to your new place?"

Alex slowly nodded. "I'll probably call you when I get lonely in the car. I'm driving a while after my parents leave." she said.

He nodded, looking at her sadly for a long moment, then leaned forward, wrapping his arms around her, and pulled her in, kissing her for what he know might be the last time in a long time.

Alex's parents had left, and she knew she would have to leave in a few minutes. She kissed Kenshin a few more times and hugged him for a few minutes, probably the longest hug she'd ever had. "Kenshin...I love you."

He gripped her, wanting with all his heart not to have to let her go. "I love you, too, Alex."

Alex tried backing up, but she couldn't move, he was still holding on to her. "Kenshin, I have to go." she whispered. She kissed him lightly one more time and waited until he let go, then left. The second she stepped in the car, she started crying.

He finally let her go, nodding. "I'll head back home, and wait for your call." He watched her go, fighting back tears, then left the house and closed the door behind him. He headed to his house, and waited.

Kenshin spent the next 8 months working as hard as he could as his schoolwork. He called Alex every chance he got, and still managed to keep up his social life with his other friends. At one point, Sarah called up Alex and apologized, not having known he was seeing anyone. She told her she didn't need to forgive her, just to know that she was sorry. At the very start of summer, he bought himself a new car, selling his old for a faster vehicle. He also bought a present for Alex, for when she would get back, and still kept in touch with her. |

Alex had moved rather close to the Gulf of Mexico in Pensacola, Florida. When Alex moved back, it actually was only a few blocks away from her old home. Without telling him. Alex drove in her new car to his house and knocked on his door with a little surprise. |
Kenshin was sitting on his bed, upstairs, when he heard a knock at the door. As he was home alone once again, he knew he needed to get the door. He looked at his cell phone once again, then decided if Alex called he could always call her back.
Getting up, he threw on a shirt to go with his usual jeans, and headed downstairs. He cracked his neck, the pulled the door open. "Yes, can I..." The words died in his throat as he saw Alex on his doorstep. |
Alex couldn't help but smile. "Help me? I think so, my dear." she said. She stood up straight and hugged him tightly.

He just looked at her, shocked, as he wrapped his arms around her through instinct. "Alex.... when did... what are you....." His mouth was hanging open, not that he noticed. |
